Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

I just downloaded 3.70 and my TV catagory dissappered along with my 2 channels and i just wanna know what is up with that?

Why can’t we have ‘Automatic syncing on trophies’ for free for everyone? I don’t like the way these updates are going now i.e if you don’t get PSN Plus you don’t get things that should be free anyway i think :-/

I still will never use automatic update. But a lot better update though. Better than Unstable PS3 Game update that we seem to get a lot of.
Guess it is safe to assume that non-PS Plus won’t be getting any new worthwhile features for the remainder of the PS3 lifecycle… only items I would care about in this update are PS Plus exclusive
After I upgraded the firmware I was unable to play any blu-ray games. I would receive the 8001000F error when trying to launch a game. I restarted my system and it works now…hopefully it stays that way. :S

call me cheap or whatever but i aint gonna pay extra for features that should be playstation 3 standard. the ps3 is becoming like the 360 every update at the time.i dropped my support for the other console because of their reliability issues and also because you had to “pay in order to play” type of model.sry to tell you this but my faucet doesnt stream dollars when i open it up nor my trees grows dollars on there either…. :(
So.. what about a quick reply home button feature when someone send us a message.
For the people wondering about XGC, that feature is not possible on the ps3 hardware. notice when you play a game how the in-game XMB takes forever to load unlike the 360, in game XGC would crash the system if they allowed it in game.
The PSVITA can handle it because it was build with that in mind unlike our precious ps3.
Two features that should have been there since the beginning and nothing substantial for non-plus members. This is pathetic. I thought you had a 10 year plan for the PS3? You haven’t added any significant features to the firmware in nearly 2 years that don’t require extra peripherals or subscriptions.
The auto-sync trophy feature should be available to all PSN users to at least enhance their PSN experience some. Although I do plan on becoming a PS+ user again, I still think this feature should be available to all users.
Good job on the firmware though. It was one of the better ones to come out in a long while.

Ok the udate is cool and all but what good is it when all you get is an error code 8002f1b0 and when u make a call to tech supprot they direct your call for a later time good job sony
Im pretty sad, cause the reason that i came to PS3 two years ago was the awesome free online features, and i was hoping that when PS Plus came out Sony didnt forget about the free players, and i see that its what i was most afraid of

These are cool features and all but I’m not gonna buy a Plus Account for them. I could easily buy an external harddrive to have my own “cloud.” And also I synch my trophies regularly as I receive them so it’s not big deal there. But it sucks that we have to upgrade firmware even if we get no benefits. Maybe next time you’ll think about ALL of us who stuck with you after the hacking and throw us some better stability or SOMETHING aside from an all PSN+ firmware.
Disappointed Sony theres only one new thing for non-plus members. So many people get ps3’s because of free service, but it has no features. You have to make auto-sync for non-plus members. It’s pointless why it’s only for plus. I might as well get a xbox if your gona make us pay for basic features. I’m guessing cross game chat(if your ever smart enough to make it) will be for only plus-members to?

I don’t understand why people want XGC so badly… if u wanna talk to a friend who’s not playing the same game as you, stop playing and make a phone call! It’s as simple as that! :D
All of these feature should be available for everyone. If I have to download an update, I want it to do something. I love my PS3, but please don’t turn it into the 360 where free accounts can only access the store and you have to pay for simple things like playing online and sending messages.

WTF when u start up a bluray disc it will ask about game save and i accidently hit circle button and when i try again i get error message, and so i have to turn off my PS3 to make it work again, thats stupid.

so you finally decide you would use common sense and put the auto sync feature on that we have been asking for for a while. but of course you cant add anything without it being playstation plus. oh. thank you so. much.
basically this update its only for ps+ members i see…. thanks a lot for wasting space on my HDD sony…. sorry but it piss me off that the auto trophy sinc its only for PS+ members… i mean i woulnt be mad if it were a feature u guys implemented on ur own but it REALLY piss me off bc this was asked LOOOONG B4 the ps+ existed! Sony im asking with all my heart, i like ps+ and i really understand that ps+ member need to get stuff that regular members dont, but dont try to sell me something we’ve been asking for YEARS NOW….! really bad move for ur fans…..

I Dont Give A rats Butt about this update. All the good features are for PS+ and im not wasting my money on it at all. Im very dissapointed. I saw auto trophy sync i said YAY then said ps+ exclusive. very disappointing. That extra video setting nothing special and everything cool is for ps+ which ill never buy unless i see its worth it
i’m a plus member, but i think auto trophy sync should be available to all, hope you’re just using plus members to test it out
How about this for an update: Provide those of us that would like an online save (Cloud) capability the option to make use of the service (a stand-alone subscription perhaps) but don’t need or want the Playstation Plus subscription. Honestly. Thanks.

Wow…..I’m without words……Sony actually made an excuse to buy plus….I’m not mad but I’m really not interested either….I never upload trophies anyway but u could have given us all that at least….I do respect that u must buy to have auto update but whats up with ps3 gettin bricked after this update….whats next must own plus to have ps2 functionality?

Thank you Sony. Even though I am no longer a PlayStation Plus user adding features in small batches like this really breath new life back into this console. Now only if the batches were to come a little bit more frequently. Their are a TON of new features that PlayStation users have been asking for if you look at the PS.Blog.Share. Just roll in some of their ideas every now and then and keep them coming!

Yeah, people need to grow up. Part chat I can wait or it can just not come, I only used it once on my 360 and I use that useless Kinect as a mic. I don’t see party chat coming out anytime soon, at least not until PSVita is closer.
How about adding an update where we can listen to music while playing. Not just certain games but all!
