This press release just hit the wire – PlayStation Store and related services (like voucher redemption) back this week:
SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.

How did “we are targeting having the PSN in full restoration by the end of the month” translate into ” We absolutely, positively, guarantee without a shadow of a doubt that PSN and all of it’s capabilities will be fully prepped and ready to go by may 31st, we promise.”? I always thought a target was a goal, not a promise, but what the hell do i know?

Since this is a game blog site I would like to discuss a few things about F.P.S.games if you aren’t familiar with that term F.P.S. it stands for FIRST_PERSON_SHOOTER. BC2,SOCOM4, MAG, WORLD at WAR,BLACK-OPS,SOCOM CONFRONTATION just to name a few are also TEAM based game meaning GET A F____N MICROPHONE and communicate with your TEAM- MATES. There is nothing more frustrating than a bunch of MORONS running around blowing things up just to rank up.

Finally that is just prime. Thanks Sony although it was supposed that you guys were gonna have it up by today actually its nice for a heads up and a solid time frame. Why is Japan last? That’s easy. The Japanese government told Sony explicitly that they would not allow Sony to bring the system up in Japan until Sony shows them proof that it has been appropriately reinforced. Other countries don’t care about their consumers that much, so we all get to be the guinea pigs.
Now I can take L.A. Noire farther. Just got my platinum trophy. Now I’m bored.

For those still out of the loop, Sony is NOT bringing the store back. This blog is the same as the others, just another pitiful attempt to keep us quiet. That’s why they won’t give us a date, and why they haven’t made any of the estimated tmes either. Sony is just trying to keep all of you buying their games and psn cards before they shut it down perminately. They’re just trying to cash out before they leave the table. I used to be a sony Fan, now I’m convinved otherwise.
Hey Jeff, do you know if they’ll launch some kind of customer appreciation / welcome back program similar to how they’re giving two free downloads to some PSN customers? As a loyal PSN customer, I’d really like to get in on that, but the previously announced reward doesn’t include me.

Read the Statements and Policies, once you put money into that online wallet, it’s theirs. And they’re not bringing back the store. Your download list doesn’t matter. They just want people to keep anticipating the arrival of the store, so they keep buying the games and cards. Come Saturday night we’ll get another update saying the same as this one. They’re just biding their time.
Finally!! For some reason I can’t play my dlc for gta4 so I’m thinking all I need to do is redownload. Now I can, YES. I swapped out my hardrive during the time psn was down.

SONY SCROTUM JOCKEYS UNITE. It seems everyone riding SONYS pants leg made SONY enjoy having them down there. They don’t want to stop sucking yet. This is totally Pathetic. We have a giant paperweight with blu-ray. Sony must be running on the original PS3 with the screwed up clock function. Thats why they are taking so long, they keep watching the dail spin at the top of the page everytime they try to load the store.

They just announced they’re working on teh PS4 and everyone expects them to waste time on the 3? Begs the question. would you try to fix an inferior product or focus on teh new one selling? They’ve got like two guys working on fixing the PS3, teh rest are all working on the PS4.
Can’t wait! I’m sure we are all excited to put this all behind us and get back to normal. I think Sony has done a great job communicating the events the past month and I’m really looking forward to the PS Store reopening.
