This press release just hit the wire – PlayStation Store and related services (like voucher redemption) back this week:
SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.
We will update the PlayStation Blog when the PlayStation Store is once again open for business.

Bravo Sony, you took some flack, but did the right thing, only after ensuring the security of the new system will you implement it. I hope, if nothing else, that Sony has learned from this as to how to keep their customers in the loop, the main problem with all of this was the not knowing part. Don’t forget that lesson.
That said, YAY! I’m eager to drop 100$ on the new 7.1 headset, and if I’m buying that, I might as well drop another 50$ or 100$ on games.
I was going to buy a third party headset until I saw the announcement of the Sony brand version. Not only do I support sony and their superior hardware, I feel at this point sony can use every dollar I can afford to throw at them, so only Sony branded products will be purchased for the next year or so.

Happy there is finally a update about what is going on with the store. We could have use this info days ago instead of just a few hours before the promise date. Again happy it is coming back but aggravated beyond what words can describe that it could be another week or longer before it comes back on for the US instead of what we were all told and promise. This really sux even more for people like my self that got a YLOD in the middle of all this. Cause of that there is a lot of stuff we can not play online do to online passcodes.

Off topic but people have been spoiled by both “free” and “subscription” online play. It wasn’t long ago that the only online gaming was only on PCs. Now when it goes out people freak and turn into [censored] . Also the store thats also new..yes we all have stuff we have bought and need to download…it will be there though and if you want to be mad at some one be mad at the hackers. regardless of Sony’s previous Security issues they would of been hack anyway…those hackers wanted in and they did. Even if Sony has super top secret CIA level security they can be hacked again tomorrow. Also there have been a lot of hacks in the news of late. Yea I may be defending Sony but I’m not a fanboy I am a multi console gamer. Yes Sony was hacked. could they have prevented it MAYBE(unless it has no Internet access it is not 100% secure on any personal PC or Server EVER [continued in next comment too many characters =_=]
So I would direct you anger towards the hackers and cut Sony a little slack the work they are doing to restore all the services is an immense undertaking I mean insanely immense. Most of us tech here on the blog would crap ourselves if we where handed the PSN post hack and told to fix it…now I will end this long A.D.D. riddled comment with the worst punctuation I have ever used. So Gnite all and please lets be the Gamers we all know we are and stay united and friendly with each other because when the Robots rise up against the world we can stop that Armageddon or Zombies who will save the world from a Zombie Apocalypse if we Gamers are constantly arguing…So have patience with the store try not to complain and whine about it and the patient ones try not to get frustrated with those who are less patient.

Why can’t you guys just set a date? It’s always “this week”. It was suppose to be up by the end of May. And its the end of May. So unless it goes up in the next few hours, its another date Sony couldn’t keep.

Well, too bad I’m didn’t get to play the L.A. Noire DLC before my vacation. It’s a bit bitter sweet. I love Sony’s products, but I feel like they have been very slow and hired all the wrong people to do their services.
This could have been fixed in a week total, if right measures were done, but instead they probably spent a lot of time flipping the dime on making a tailored security system or just buy a already established one.
For the consumer, Sony’s customers it wouldn’t matter and I think Sony should have gone with the latter. In terms of sales and everything I guess Sony would have come out better.
Go to the escapist and watch last weeks extra credits, “not a security episode”
Sony payed the banks instead of giving us consumers store credit. I mean that is really ridiculous; like we wouldn’t be able to get a credit card to fund our shopping?

im a “loyal customer” And i like playstation WAY better then other systems. BUT you guys cannot be trusted with dates. You cant keep dates you set and im surprised we didn’t get that other guy saying: “as soon as possible”. Because setting dates by sony and them keeping the date, is equal to us getting a sequel to one of the best games ever, extermination. Its just not gonna happen. Sorry but its true. Now when it does come back, im buying dino crisis 2 because ive been waiting for this to come back so i can.

wow! I was bored with the network being down, but since I don’t have to pay like one would on Xbox I didn’t really mind. Even though it should have never happened in the first place (everyone makes mistakes) a company as large as Sony should be able to keep security top notch.
This has gotten me a bit furious. waiting till the end of one estimated full restore date to announce that they in fact lied is what is doing it. they did it twice with the online game-play and now twice with the full restore. now if they were updating us more like when they first realized they weren’t making this deadline and said something like sorry still a few bugs to workout then i wouldn’t care as much, but sitting here not knowing what is going on with no eta pisses me off oh and has anyone notice out of the almost one and a half months there has only been one or two updates that weren’t during bank hours.
ARE THEY REALLY WORKING ROUND THE CLOCK? and how is it they don’t have the manpower or resources to get us back on line when they said they were yet all the ads for the new headset, games and how much efforts are they putting into the live streaming of E3 perhaps you should fix problems before making new ventures
so Sony just update us more I’m not leaving for Xbox like everyone else says they are (when i doubt they are) because everyone who has a PS3 knows its better than the alternatives by a long shot. i have health problems so i sit at home basically 24/7 and only get 2-4 hours of sleep a night. so i have a lot of time to keep checking whats going on, keeping us in the dark is a mistake. and when this is all over i think people are going to notice how you could have done more. actually i think i might get an Xbox, my ps3 is still my number one but if the next Xbox is even similar to the PS4 i might make the switch i doubt it but i really don’t like how you all are doing business, I’m devastated that you think its a good idea to put time and effort into the live streaming of E3 when your house is still in complete disarray.
PS could you make it so i can download the stuff that I’ve already paid for, the stuff in my download list!! i mean i have paid for it and all!
Oh I am still mad as hell, they missed there deadline, unless it opens back up today, and as someone said earlier, they obviously feel they can announce a deadline and not keep it. Then above that they give us this information in my time zone, one hour before target date. This is absolutely unforgivable and no I am not going to waste the money that I spent on my system, but I am going to remember this when my system dies, so does my loyalty to the sony brand. No longer will I blindly buy sonys game system simply because I am one of the faithful, when the next systems come out, I am doing all the research, and that includes which platform will have the most games that I can play, xbox has far surpassed sony on amount and quality of games.
Thats all well and good, but they promised us that it would be on TODAY. Now we have to wait even longer!? C’mon sony, pull ur self together! WE NEED ESCALATION!
You’re behind schedule. Don’t announce a deadline to the public if you can’t meet it. People have a right to be pissed. I’d expect professionals to be better at estimating how much time their work will take them.
I know it’s been a long road for you guys @ Sony. You still have some fans that support and believe in you and your products. Hopefully, you’re E3 conference will put a gag in those haters/doubters mouths, lol.

I don’t know why, but I have a feeling we won’t see it back, in America, til Sunday, July 5th. Please prove me wrong! I do feel really bad for Japan & the other countries that have had to wait even longer to get PSN back. That kinda stinks…
