Hi everyone, once again we’re adding new features to the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system via firmware update to ensure we’re bringing you the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible. PS3 system software update (v3.40) will be available soon, adding the PlayStation Plus subscription, enhancements to the connection between your PlayStation Network and Facebook accounts and more. Additionally, we’ll be launching system software update (v6.30) for the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system simultaneously with PS3 system software update (v3.40), adding PlayStation Plus compatibility as well as other new features.
We’ve gone ahead and provided a few highlights from PS3 firmware update (v3.40) below:
- PlayStation Plus: PlayStation Network users will be able to purchase membership to PlayStation Plus; a new subscription service on the PlayStation Network that provides you with new options to expand and enhance your gaming experience and enable you to gain an exclusive set of features and content. Friendly reminder, all of you PlayStation Network users will continue to have free access to PlayStation Network’s unmatched and expanding suite of new and exclusive features while PlayStation Plus subscribers will gain access to an exclusive and expanding set of gaming features, content and functionality.
- Photo Gallery: A new network based photo sharing feature is now available on the Photo Gallery. The enhancement allows you to upload, browse and comment on photos on Facebook and Picasa Web Album. You can also opt to share your photos between your PlayStation Network friends as well as print photos from Photo Gallery.
- Video Editor & Uploader: Video Editor and Uploader is a new function found on the XrossMediaBar (XMB), which enables you to edit, save and upload video files stored on the PS3 system to sites such as Facebook or YouTube.
- Five Star Rating Support: Users can rate the PlayStation Store content they have purchased with one to five star ratings.
- Power Save Settings: The default setting for PS3 System Auto-Off will be set at 2 hours, providing you with additional power save options and further improving power save features on the PS3 system.
In addition to the latest features introduced in PS3 system software update (v3.40), a separate, new PlayStation Network application on Facebook.com will be made available. This builds upon what was previously launched with Trophies and the ability to publish purchases from the PlayStation Store. Now you can further integrate your PlayStation Network and Facebook accounts with this new application. The application allows you to display your PlayStation Network profile on your Facebook account, find out which of your Facebook friends have a PSN account and send them a PlayStation Network friend request, view your PSN friends’ online status and add the PlayStation Network application tab to your Facebook user profile.

I thought we got 3 months for free to test out this beast? I don’t know to go about doing this… anywho, the update is amazing. I am so buying PS+ as soon as I can.
I hate to be a complainer but…..
With PSN+ could you give us a little freedom to choose some of the bonus downloads (or at least a way to vote). I have most of those games/dlc and I subscribe to Qore so there isn’t anything really appealing to make me drop $50 a year on this…sorry Sony, maybe next time.
Oh and thanks for not fixing my YLoD console. I took it to a local service shop and they said they see the same problem in all the old fat PS3s…it’s a designer error not user induced. Time to google YLoD and class action I guess.

I want to see a list of the games that will be included in the subscription. Cloud saves are nice since I am getting a second system this week.
@BLVCKK once you a plus service all games will play online for free however free games that tied in with subcription will end and the game wont work unless u renew it so you can still play onlie games free so dont worry this is not xbox 360:)
a software update! yes, time to improve usability and add features users are looking for!
So you add a photo uploader to facebook and a video editor? really? The only feature that you added that makes sense is the 5 star rating system for the store. I think just about every other online store on the internet has had this for a decade.
Who asked for this junk? Who is in charge of making these decisions? Hire someone from Apple because you guys suck at cutting out unnecessary garbage and improving the base usability of your software.
errr this really makes me mad. let me uninstall the these apps, I don’t want them, I don’t need them, and my Macbook can do them a lot better. I can rant about this but no one from sony will listen.
Couldn’t edit/add video with editor shot with EyeCreate
I got Flow for free through the Valentine’s Day giveaway, and I got the Wipeout Fury dynamic theme at… some point. Don’t remember if I paid for it or not (I think it was free the first week dynamic themes were made available?), but all I know is I own both, as both are on my ps3! Yet when I go to rate them on the Store, it prompts me to buy them. Everything else I can rate just fine.
I went rummaging through my history to see what was up, and Flow shows up under my Transaction History, but not my Download List, while the Wipeout theme shows up under neither! Do I not actually “own” these? Will I not be able to redownload them at a later date? Can I not even rate them??
Is this the way it’s supposed to work, or is this just a glitch? Please somebody respond!

well , it seems that we psp owners have waiting for so long just to find out that theres nothing really added to this new firmware update , Erick is it possible to add the friends list on psn ? i mean i want to be able to send and receive messages from my psn friends on my psp and to play online with them too , i hardly complain here but this is getting really frustrating , if it cant be done just say so , that way i wont bother again to bring that up
The FB app doesn’t work. Swaps back and forth between login request and the terms and services type page.

Bought the Playstation Plus year subscription and went to download Wipeout, I got the demo key; but when I went to download the “demo ” version of Wipeout, I can’t find it.
I checked my old downloads, and the key was on there, but not the demo..
Then when I went to the game section of the store, it was nowhere to be found…
I hope you guys get this fixed when I get home from work tomorrow :-o!

@559 if you previously downloaded the demo, you’ll have to scroll through your download list to find it…. stupid, I know. Qore is HORRIBLE that way, as I have to scroll through hundreds of items to get to each new episode…

Uh I have an issue when using the Picasa and/or Facebook integration in Photo Gallery. The keypad won’t let me input a space which is a key I have in my password. Is there a solution? Or did I just not see a space key when inputting my password?

Hi guys I downloaded the new up-to-date software & it works fine also Im a Playstation+ member (3 months )just to try it & so far I like it!!…Anyway the photo upload to facebook works fine but the video upload its having issues with some date before the update & not to mention copyright videos but I’LL try later…Heads up on the new stuff such as move control registration & calibration …also theres a new choice in display called deep black color video (Im still looking a what it does)..& Finally the app on facebook doesnt work good (with the ps3) & theres been a browser update cause youtube its finally working…but in resumption this was a great update & new Playstation+ its a sure hit!!! THANKS SONY 4 LISTENING …..now how about some free movies???

Video upload is new, people. We’ve been able to upload photos from the beginning.
The rest of these features are dissapointing. 2 hours to power save settings? Really? We already had a photo gallery and the ability to print photos. The rating system is okay. But previews would be better.
When are we going to get a working browser in the in-game XMB?

What’s going on with editing eyecreate videos? I created/exported the vid after the update, and last time I checked, my living room isn’t copyrighted material.. Other than that great update, looking forward to purchasing PSN+ in a few days!

So…. for what reason do MegaVideo videos no longer show video when they are embedded, and non embedded ones do not appear because it says the flash player is outdates? =/ A web browser update is what’s REALLY needed… It’s bad when the ipod touch does it better :(
Has anyone else tried Video Editor & Uploader yet? i tried it & says i need videos from after 3.40, & i use EyeCreate to capture the video & it still would not work, i even re downloaded EyeCreate & it still wont work. I dont know if we were ment to record from something else or im doing something wrong but can someone please let me know whats going on. Thankyou

Please give us a flash update. I loved that I could watch the X!FM.com feed, watch the DJ and blast the sound through my BOSE system. Not anymore. And it goes beyond that.
But hell, I guess that whole aspect of having a Sony PS3 and a Bravia TV isn’t supposed to go hand and hand. What the hell is the point when you say your products are superior but yet they don’t go hand and hand. I love the fact that I can’t have all the systems talk to each other and perform adequately. I’m in the wrong to think it’s 1997.
The whole X!FM.com thing was an example. Yes I have a computer. I also APPLE TV. I also have the computer hooked up to the Bravia. But guess what. As of three months ago I had flash on the PS3.
Yes flash sucks but a lot of websites rely on it. They use it. It’s a fact. Why even have a web browser option if you don’t actually utilize it………..
