Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.
- Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
- Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)
In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

This is a good sign that Trophies are ever expanding. It is also awesome to see PS3 going into 3D…some other competition wouldn’t dare, lol.

Yeah PS3 is going into 3D!!! Something that was only cool in the late 80’s and only usable on Sony’s upcoming $3000 Bravias… Nothing more than marketing.
why do u guys need the OtherOS feature if u guys want to use the internet so badly there is the option of YOU having to just hook up a laptop/desktop to ur TV and just serfing the web its as easy as that! damn u guys are so dumb!

@Mr. Lempel: Today is Apr. 22 and the Support section of the official Playstation website lists the most current system software update as 3.21. Therefore, I am unable to download the 3.30 update using my PC and a USB flash drive. Why is the 3.30 update missing from that website?

Hopefully Sony will or have fixed the leap year bug as well. Also need to add the ability to play own music in every game; a better internet browser ( my phone has a better browser, lol); if not going to allow us a different operating system, then improve yours. Your new user agreement is B.S.. If I had lost all my data and downloads as some did during the leap year bug, I’d expect compensation. Which with the new user agreement, all of us can forgot about that. Even if it is on Sony’s end, a fault of their own.

My console (fat 40g) can’t read discs after the update.
I’m glad they got rid of OtherOS, we definitely wanted that out of here. I’m also glad we still can’t listen to music while we are playing vidya games, that would be a huge distraction. I’m not trolling, sony is.
Is it possible to open USB content (videos, music, etc) like in older firmwares?

This is [DELETED]. After the update I couldn’t display 720p or 1080i/p on my TV which prior to the update, I could. Mind you, I have HDMI.
Just downloaded, I got my hopes up pretty high and by 1/4 ofthe download i took a sudden stop from all my jumping around and thought… wtf am i thinking, they always let us down before- What makes this time so special? It was from that moment on that I allowed myself to believe it was nothing special and sunk all hope beneith its murky reaches (useful tip) :P
Now im not that dissapointed! :) … nonetheless BOOO! …Though i do have a 72″ 3D TV so heres hoping at least some of these fruits were worth picking sometime “soon” As for the rest of you … I feel your pain :( :P
Hey can some one help me out I’m new to the PS3 slim and was wondering if any one knows how the 3D update is going to work I talked to a person that works at Bestbuy and he told me that you don’t need a 3D TV as long as your Flat Panel Tv is 120Hz the 3D update will be able to work. You’re PS3 just messed up.
I had this problem too, the laser just burned out.
What you need to do is call Sony and tell them.
It will cost you.
They will send you a box, you will send the PS3 in that box, they’ll send it back like if it was bran-spankin-new.
It will cost you around 150* dollars.
*at least for me it was.
so… the thing is that I started downloading this new update but it got stuck at 13%, i restarted the ps3 (slim btw) and began downloading again, this time it got stuck at 12%, or 11% can´t remember, anyway, after that I tried to download it from my pc, you know through the media storage thingie, and it was the 3.21 version, although it said 3.30 on the web site. Does anyone know how to fix this? thank you very much

DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING!
The real contract between the conusmer and producer is formed during the purchase. Did Sony come to your local store and question you and aske for a signature when you bought your systems? No.
Can you return an open system when you find out you do not agree with the TOS? No.
Would a document that really carried any weight be able to be amended without any question or consent of the consumer population it applies to? No.
This is why there is an intense legal procedure to tackle when attempting to change something like say…. THE CONSTITUTION.

Sony you need to fix whatever you did to the web browser. It wont remember my login passwords anymore. Tryed everything delete cookies, turn it on and off. And fix it so I dont get “this application is not supported” when you post things on the blog. YOUR own system with a web browser cant view things you post on YOUR blog. Does that make sense to you?

@1012 pokusamigus, I have a fat 60Gb ps3 and I have the same problem. I did the update and was playing a game online afterwards, then it just froze up so i turned it off. When I turned it back on and tried to start the game again, it wouldn’t read the game disc. I have tried other games, dvds, blu-ray movies and nothing plays. Yeah bang up job sony.
I noticed after the update after i close the browser any and all login cookies are lost , i always have to login here now and my gmail account . I hope this is a growing pain I ll have to endure for an upcoming browser upgrade . If so …. I COMPLETLY understand . Just excited about any browser upgrade even if it means tolerating a little inconvenience .
When do we get the Netflix update? I’m a lazy American. Get up and change the disc, hogwash… lol…I’m really excited and grateful that ya’ll made the bold move to partner with Netflix.

PS3 update messed it up!!!, i can’t earn anymore trophy’s not even from new games, :|, , why can we just remove the trophy we earn and start over to earn them again? i mean like i just got a platform trophy and now i can’t get it back at all for no reason, i don’t use cheats at all,
uh did any one bother to read the new eula?! section 2 where sony can tamper with the ps3 at any given time. and with a remote connection to the ps3 and always in need of the ps3 seems pointless. because it’s like saying we are “borrowing” the ps3 from sony. seams really pointless seeings you (sony) are always on top of things and forcing us all to update just to play the games we enjoy. btw before someone rants about “arguing about something u get with free services” ya better look to the little new about how they where “thinking” about making psn no longer a free service.anyhoo. another pointless update for the trophy’s but the 3d prep i’m actually happy about for once.i only hope sony knows what they are doin.
@ 1017 coreyfarkas , first and foremost … it is you who needs to think veeeeery carefully before posting . When you and everbody else purchased our PS3’s , thats what our money paid for , because YOU SEE … The PSN is not sold with the ps3 . you can gain access to the psn with the ps3 . but that is completly optional and they do state that their are limitations and restrictions in the manual . NO AGREEMENT FOR THE PSN IS NECASSARY AT THE RETAIL END FOR PSN , because it is a service the customer has not yet used with that PS3 , let alone PURCHASED .
So… you really have made yourself look like a fool because some how you had this assumption that individuals were purchasing the PSN along with their ps3’s . and the manual states otherwise . LOL The constitution portition of your rant is the most amusing . Does everybody in the nation get to vote on how the constitution is amended ? and if you were trying to imply that what SCEA is doing is unconstitutional … could you please … PLEASE point to the specific phrase in the constitution ? you may want to take a few courses that excercise your critical thinking skills . I am extremely excited about the in-home entertainment revolution spear headed by SONY! Due to limited finances I will have to wait for the 3DTV prices to become much lower than they are now. But it is GREAT to know my PS3 will be ready whenever I am able to afford a SONY 3DTV! Thanks SONY for staying ahead of the curve! Keep up the great work! Actually, free PSN access was a listed feature on the back of the PS3 box. To clarify, the ability to get on PSN with no more than an internet connection is what the console is advertised as being able to do right out of the box. More importantly, that is what it says on the boxes of those who have the non-Slim units, I don’t know what it says on the Slim packaging. It pretty much says that if I link it to internet access, my console can access PSN. It says nowhere that I have to update to be able to access PSN. Them taking the online capability from those refusing to update is coercion at best and outright theft at worst.
Sony once had an ad campaign for their Trinitron Televisions which featured the prominent phrase “From Those Wonderful Folks Who Brought You Pearl Harbor”. They sold a lot of tv sets using that phrase. Japanese employees are at war for their corporations. They are hired for life, sing corporate anthems, and conduct outside activities with their corporate comrades.
Why is anybody surprised at what Sony does? They are in a combat stance as far as business goes. You are not just a customer, you are their prisoner and if they could they would take you on another Bataan death march to get your money. Just play the games, keep quiet, and you won’t be harmed.
Just remember that the reason Japan is the only country ever to be nuked is that they refused to surrender, and vowed to fight any invasion by the allies to the death of every Japanese citizen. So we did the right thing and dropped a couple of atomic bombs on them. The war ended without costing American lives and now they get to sell us stuff. It seems like a fair exchange. Enjoy your PS3’s and PSP’s. Sony makes the greatest game systems ever and Sony makes just about the most desirable electronic anything you could ever hope to own.

My internet service (or router, one or the other) doesn’t cooperate with PS3 firmware updates through the PS3 but downloading through my computer is no problem.
Also, speaking of downloading these updates………. is there any way you guys could make it where IF we did get kicked off the net during a firmware update THAT IT SAVES OUR PROGRESS?

@ 1032 FenrisKnight . yes , and your point ? the psn is an option and yes , you CAN access the psn , and it states specifically in the manual that terms and conditions apply , the update provisions even applies when you use software , since even disc based games contain updates . These provisions were presented to everyone including the provision to change the TOS . We were given a chance to decline and still can decline . you just cant access the psn .
Thats no enigma of a concept created by sony however . Sony did not “create ” the concept of the end user license agreement . Whether anybody is aware of it or not your very own ISP reserves the right to make changes to their network at anytime , even if it means you can no longer connect and have to purchase new equipment to do so . WHY ? because they arent going to allow a person or persons inability or refusal to prevent them from making changes . just as your computer is required to have a degree of compliance ,so does your PS3 . SCEA is not doing anything unheard of … and if you havent … you need to make it a habit to read TOS agreements .

Since the update i myself have froze a few times while playing this game (something that never happen before the update), and plenty of others from different forums are complaining about having this issue too.
Ya Give me back the Other OS option and yes I did use it for YellowDog Linux . I beat there not happy about Sony Removing there Develment of YDL from the PS3.
I em happy to announce since the PS3 Dose a system backup useing the USB ports on a HDD useing Fat32. Not me personly but a few talented software engineers I know have manage to brake the Encryption of the PS3 Backup Files. The thoery is to be able to rip copy protected gameDate Like singstar downloaded songs. Then be able to recopy back onto the system via USB Thumb Drive with out useing system restore
the other theory is, if there able to rip Files out of the backups then possible insert files back into the backup then run the backup on the PS3.
a lot thory out there that if your not able to physical brake into the ps3 Formated HDD. USe the Backup Tool to do it for ya.

I thought this was an entertainment system. I paid 599 euros for such functionality when it was new. Apparently not.
The browser is so outdated as to be useless on most sites. There are a whole load of popular codecs that aren’t supported. If you don’t update then bluray discs won’t play in future. Other OS was used by a whole load of people to cover up Sony’s hopelessly outdated firmware and media support e.g. via VLC & firefox.
As for “preps the PS3.”
What BS. What do you need to “prepare?”
When the feature’s really ready, ship it in a future update.
If it isn’t ready what’s the point???

To all of the OS whine-babies: Put it to bed! Sony has every right to protect themselves from theft. We all know that some English guy found a way to make a homebrew that would allow saving games permanently. I find it weird that people that are stealing are so arrogant and self righteous when what they are doing is stopped. Even if you weren’t using Linux for illegal means it was a small percentage of user taking advantage of it. If your going to blame some one blame that guy that found a way to ripoff not only Sony but all of the hardworking programmers that produce the games we love. To those of you that were using PS3 for a Linux system. Well…I’m sorry but should you use a PC for that sort of thing? It was very forward thinking of Sony to try this whole other OS “experiment” but it never really took off.
