Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.
- Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
- Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)
In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

Oh boy another big update… oh wait now I can sort my trophies wtf and 3d capabilities for a 3d TV I dont have Oh WOW thanks, you know mine and everyone elses browser browser doesnt work right? and were still pissed about loosing features and these are the ones your going to give us? sorting our trophies this seems like a joke.
theres something I dont quite understand though you get rid of other Os for “security” reasons to protect us right and then you add into the service agreement that you can enter our machines without our knowledge or permission this is quite troubling to me who is going to protect us from you? I really do not like the direction Sony is going and im wishing more than ever that I bought an Xbox360

There is and has been no way to use OtherOS to steal from Sony, so the “people who are stealing” do not exist. There is a possibility that someday a piracy method could be developed (maybe), but the current evidence suggests that people will NOT need OtherOS to make use of it if so.

PS thanks for fixing the YouTube flash problem I’ve missed it. I’m suprised you didn’t mention that the 3.30 fixed this problem.
Still not happy about the loss of Other OS. I have accepted the loss of Other OS but not happy. Heres hoping this update proves more useful.

I am a fool? First off I never said I was talking about any specific features. I am talking about and too people who are actually willing to defend the TOS like it actually means anything.
Here is a little of Sony’s new policy
“In addition to the limitations of liability in Sections 1, 2, 11 and 13 of this Agreement, SCEA expressly disclaims any implied warranty of merchantability, warranty of fitness for a particular purpose and warranty of non-infringement. SCEA assumes no liability for any inability to purchase, access, download or use any content or data.”
They are blatantly trying to defend feature removal. Not even defend; make people feel stupid and singled out for not being ok with their procedures.

See the problem is that, even if you never want to update your system and not agree with the TOS, you cannot. If you do, your system is bricked from the future. When new games/movies come out, you will be required to update to play them. So SONY is bascically trying to blackmail customers into giving to this absolutely atrocious display of corporate business(although when isn’t corporate business disgusting).
PSN is an issue here too because it at least WAS an advertised feature (and I am sure it still is). By not updating, you are not allowed access to the PSN. So if you want to keep Otheros, or any other feature they will get rid, you will lose a feature no matter what. Sure, Sony allows you to terminate your PSN account, but they will not give you any funds in your wallet. Still further, not using the PS3 at all online takes us back to where I began.

Will this update sort out my problem which I have since the last update in that no blu ray discs are being recognised? as if it doesnt then I am off to buy an Xbox.
I wish you guys can make auto-synching trophies a possibility, also slower XMB load times, that would have been so much better than this update, but the sorting of the trophies is a good update, but not enough. That was more important, Sony!
Lame update in my opinion. Please take off unnecessary things like the Facebook app and make it a downloadable option from the Playstation Store as well as some other features and upgrade other features your customers have been asking about such as the web browser. This only makes perfect business sense.
@887 to 889. I paid $600 for mine to have features like Other OS. I think though that more so than not, only those of us who were there at the beginning can truly appreciate the loss that was Other OS. Those who don’t care or did not have a chance to use it, do not know what they have really lost….

How much longer do we have to insert a disc into our console just to enjoy NETFLIX. Marry the company and design them their very our icon that we can click and watch. NETFLIX is slowly moving away from DVD’s, Sony lets keep up with the times here. As far as 3D technology goes, there are different levels of 3D, where are we going to be on the quality level? 1 last thing… The next step everyone is going to make…. Build a high powered PC. Better graphics, multiple OS, close to perfect 3D support, and less expensive games. Oh not to mention most every home has a pc and not every home needs a PS3. Sounds like Sony put a health care bill on our unit, and now they want to control our diet. Good Luck, lets see how many members they have in 1 years time. Sony I love you, just keep me fat and happy.
The PS3 browser sucks!! Why don’t Sony give its users the ability to use another browser? Or go to an open source browser and use it on their machines?? It is so annoying, I bet FireFox or Google Chrome could do a great job!!!!
I’d like to see an MSN and/or Skype app like you did with the BBC iPlayer, cross game chat, better browser, being able to delete trophies for games we don’t want.

My games are freezing sometimes, especially when i play too long. This hadn’t happen before, just after i downloaded this update… I have a fat ps3, any known issue about this??
Also i’d like to be able to play PSP games through my PS3.

I just wanted you to know, my PS3 is now demoted to my basement as solely a blu-ray player until Sony decides to take the blu-ray functionality out. I also wanted you to know that I just bought a Samsung 60″ 1080p TV instead of your XBR series (which I originally planned to get) and I got a Pioneer receiver to go with it when originally I planned for a Sony receiver. I also removed all other Sony products from my house, such as my PSP and PS2. I am also boycotting your products to anyone I see in the store. I hope more people follow suit. Sony is off my future purchases all together. I’d really appreciate it if in your next update you remove your store, because I wont be using that ever again either.

wow first the internal clock fiasco now this. i lol’d at the email sony sent to try to explain themselves, thanks for taking out the feature that made me buy the ps3 instead of the xbox and replacing it with 3d tech that nobody will be using since there are no 3d games yet. i won’t be updating sony’s loss not mine. ps sony did not fix flash because i did not update and youtube works fine.
I like my PS3. It’s treated me pretty well so far. But when you guys release updates that will potentially brick my machine it makes me lose faith. You can’t hide behind the fact that your competitor’s machines have broken down on an epic scale. Even if you fix it for free, it’s a pain in the butt and I’ll probably lose all my data. You have to test these updates extensively before putting them out. XBOX has a lot of good exclusive games and I wouldn’t be screwing around like this.

No one paid for Other OS. They paid for a PS3 and along with it the terms and usage that Sony set.
You bought a PS3 and you have the right to alter it any way you want.
What you dont have the right is to alter it any way you want AND continue to participate in Sony’s service or updates.
The service sony provides is theirs and they are free to set the requirements for participation just as you are free to choose not to participate.
That was the choice given. Dont update and keep Other OS and lose the PSN or update.
So I think a judge would understand.
I am not trying to portray taking one thing and replacing it with something else as an acceptable practice. And that generalization of “giving people things they dont want” is a cop out. People want these updates and new features.
The point is Sony is being negatively labeled and scorned for taking away a feature that was a legitimate security threat.
Where is the praise and the memory that Sony continues to improve and add features to its hardware and service?
Please, for the love of god, stop acting like Sony’s usage terms matter. They do not. So do not speak unless you understand what is coming out of your mouth.
Hey, I just installed 3.30 and now my BD remote won’t work on my console. I tried re-registering the remote but it won’t work!?
I could care less about trophies and I am certainly NOT going to buy another HDTV for 3D. My current Samsung TV, which is only 2 years old, works just fine; thank you. When I do need to replace it it will probably not be with an overpriced Sony product.

Like some have said a browser update would be a good idea and also lately i have been able to watch least and least video from the browser of ps3 because most video now use flash player 10 would it be possible to upgrade the browser with flash player 10 ?

OK, to remove the cop-out, let’s modify the example to: ‘Taking things that people paid for is justified by giving some OTHER people what THEY want.’
Even apart from that, it’s nice to get things, but it’s not a ‘gift’ if it’s used as justification to take something away from the recipient.
But, yes, as coreyfarkas mentions, it’s awkward to have the “consumer laws trump EULAs” discussion again and again. If the ToS were above the existing laws of nations, it would be fully within Sony’s rights to intentionally brick every PS3 with an automatic update. I’m not saying that they would do this — simply that it is ridiculous.

This is, in itself, a cop-out. There is no need to modify your console in order to lose the advertised feature.
Another useless update. I have no interest in trophies or in forking over hard earned money for an overpriced 3D Tv. If your going to update please bring something of substance.

The example is still flawed. The things added to the the playstation service and hardware are not justifications for the removal of other os. They are not even related. Sony adds stuff to its hardware and software because they are a business providing a service that wants to please its consumer base and entice others to join.
Likewise Sony removes features and hardware because it is a business that has to cut costs and protect its investments from activities such as piracy.
Its not a grand scheme by Sony to screw anyone. Their intentions are to make the PSN and the PS3 the best it can be. And to think their intentions are otherwise is absolutely crazy.

You expect sony to protect your account information and passwords. Why would you not expect Sony to protect itself and game developers from the potential lost profit of piracy.
About the EULA.
Its a legally binding contract. A CYA for Sony. It is enforceable until a court says its not legal. In other words, if you think they cant legally take other os, you’re going to have to prove it in court.
As section 14 ends:
In the event of litigation to enforce any part of this Agreement, all costs and fees, including attorney’s fees, shall be paid by the non-prevailing party.
Lol Sony has really turned into dust for me, treating your customers like total crap and just by removing posts for no good reason, is really pathetic guys. I’m very pleased with my Wii and the 360 is on sale here… I’m this close getting one and trade it in for my PS3, but then again, I hate patches, bugs, dlc’s, so thanks but no thanks. This generation has really screwed it up for me, apart from Nintendo.
