Hi everyone, here’s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.
This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.
Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

took over an hour to upgrade to this… maybe you should have released it in two or three smaller updates instead? this is ridiculous…
I just want to have Age and State the PSN user is in on the PSN Profile, because I don’t want to strike up a conversation with annoying toddlers online in playstation home, and also the state they live in which is helpful so i don’t want to start a campaign with people 4 timezones ahead of me, and they have to leave the game because it’s getting too late for them to be up. also have the option to remove the playstation store icon, it ruins the experience.
Don’t think they’ll be getting rid of that store anymore…where else would you be able to buy new jeans for your PS Home avatar?????…….seriously, I better not get started on the ridiculousness of paying for virtual clothes.
just got on to the PS3 and it told me to update was needed!!! Just got firmware 3.10!!!!
DOWNLOADED! HA! It only took an hour…I was planning on waiting at least an eternity, perhaps 2….now…it…just…has…to…install….dammit….
sweetness……….oh can you guys make a firmware update that allows you to listen to music while playing a game and make a music store where everybody can listen to music buy some music videos and have some instrument lessons on it to that would be awesome :)
Is it possible for you guys to get the PS3 firmware updated on the website simultaneously? I have been using the website almost constantly because my wireless is pretty slow since I am on the 3rd story of our house and the router on the main floor. I can still play games it is just that it goes much quicker to download the update to my thumb-drive and then bring it upstairs where I can just throw it into my PS3.
Not a big fan of the whole social networking thing on consoles, but if I don’t have to see it, I will be happy. The one thing I love about the PS3 is that everything is uniform and looks very sleek(please remove the horrid PS Store icon/box from every tab except for the PSN sub-menu. I know where to find the Playstation Store if I need it.

I also would love it if you guys could put an option on for “offline status” for your PSN account. I am not trying to duck anyone online it is just that there are a lot of times where I will jump onto my Playstation and get one or two online matches in on Killzone, NHL, Burnout…ect before I have to go to class or something. I may only have 20 minutes to play where it is a ton easier just to say that I am “offline” rather than going through all of the trouble of rejecting invites and explaining why I won’t play with that person.
Oh, colored profiles. Again, I like the idea (more icons first, eh?), but again this kind of ruins your whole aesthetically pleasing UI. That is a fine idea for anyone who wants to see those colors, but for me I would much rather just get icons updated a few times a year yet keep colors the same if the user on the machine chooses to do so.

Guess what I can’t get online because my playstation gets knocked off network 38% through the download. What am I supposed to do now???????? I’ve tried doing it over 13 times and I’m not trying to fry my playstation.
downloaded and installed 3.10 – nice update! like the new changes on the friends list, however, i was hoping users would be able to have more control over the look of the gamer card in terms of the translucency.
in the future, i would definitely like to see more customization options available – for example, being able to change font size/colour, the option to remove the news feed. both of these things aren’t a problem for me personally, but the option is always nice.
a wider range of XMB background colours would also be great, including the ability to choose black as an option since we can now select something close to that with our gamer cards.
anyways, these are very minor things, but i think they would make a lot of people happy. thanks again.

I would like to suggest a new feature for the next PS3 system firmware update.
I want a countdown timer on the PS3, so that after playing for an hour (or whatever designated time) I can have an alert remind me to stop playing.
This feature would be helpful for those who play PS3 as a break from work, or for parents who want to limit their children’s playing time.
Gee, thanks for making me go back 2 pages in news to find out something about the update that was keeping me from playing my online games. Could you at least have posted it SOMEWHERE easy to find? After all, I do need to know what kind of nonsense you have done with every update and whether I want to avoid it. Amazing, you added a photo-sorting feature that should have been in the FIRST firmware revision. Will you at least include an option to disable the annoying ticker that is clashing with my once slick interface. Facebook?! Facebook? Just what I need, for everyone to know what crappy PSN demo I’ve downloaded. How about something useful?!

yet another waste of time. i like how some guy actually made a coment they are “listening to the community”… if they were they would have given us cross game chat or at least skype on the ps3 to use as such. really now facebook was more important than something much more requested… if u want to copy ms at least start with the basics. k thanks. some of us have been waiting for this basic stuff since launch. sad u wont even give us a timeframe.

yep it worked just got a trophy for punisher ( man that game sucks) and i synched, and its on my FB :)
SUGGESTION: Let us upload our own custom Avatar from our own stored pics. Not all of us like the limited selection to choose from, or premium options.
Since updating, my PS3 wireless keypad does not work. The lights just blink, and I’m unable to turn it off. I guess I have to wait until the battery drains completely, then see what happens next.

please add friend grouping. where we can group friends by the games we play with them. ex. Home – Operation Flashpoint 2 – Madden 2010 ect… it will make find and group messaging friends versus scrolling that long list of friends
hes just saying they listen to our feedback, its not true, as all of you have already made clear haha. being able to play your own music during gaming, cross game chat, and making the browser not suck so much would be sweet. theyre wasting their resources on garbage…wow facebook, give me a break. oooo changing color of my icon! haha pleeease. i wonder whos feedback theyre REALLY listening to..
Eric, I want to give you feedback on PS3 3.00.
1. The sparkles are nice & dynamic theme ability is good.
2. Please allow the option to choose the “system start-up” I want.
a. Original “Sony Computer Entertainment/ classical music”.
b. New “PS3/ neo-classical music”.
3. Give XMB font size options.
4. Allow me to turn on/off XMB “blurring” effect.
5. Allow me to have the XMB icons/words stay visible or fade.
6. Allow me to turn on/off the “adticker” in top right corner.
7. Allow me to turn Playstation store icons on/off.
8. Please allow me to choose which “media boot-up” screen I want.
a. Original “PLAYSTATION 3/ jingle” splash screen.
b. New “black screen/ no jingle”.
9. Please allow me to choose the “loading” icon I want.
a. Original classic “droplet” “watermark”.
b. New clock
The “What’s New” can be turned off in system settings? It’s mostly superficial, but user customization is good. Many PLAYSTATION 3 users would take advantage of these options.
Thanks for your teams hardwork, I know they’re trying to make PSN/XMB better. I know SCEA may not be responsible for the changes. SCEJ is probably pulling the strings. Please give this feedback to them too. Thanks!
The time it took to add a social disease^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Networking to the XMB has taken precious time away from fixing the less that useful fading XMB. It horrible using a media server when all the entries disapear.
Why the newest photo visualization doesn’t work with media server?? Would be very nice…
I would like to say, AWESOME FEATURE.
I love the colouring, it makes the friendlist look more dynamic than before.
The facebook function is awesome as well, but why can I not show EVERY trophy I have instead I can only show what trophies I just obtained?
The color change for the friends list is ok, but everything else on this update is pretty lackluster.
When are we going to get new avatars?

All these updates are great, however myself and MANY others are waiting for the seemingly basic feature of playing music in game. I don’t understand why this hasn’t been done yet!! Also before version 3+ of the updates became avialiable playing HD flash files (streaming media) worked quite well. Now there is alot of stutter and audio issues. The browser has always lacked alot of functionality especially where flash and javascript are concerned, perhaps a new provider is in order? Mozilla maybe?? Anyways, aside from these issues keep up the good work.

One problem though: The thumbnails still take an awful long time to load, and it seems they aren’t cached. So the matix view doesn’t really provide much of an overview; just spinning loading icons. Please fix it and ship a 3.11 ASAP.
Hm, is it just me getting nuts, or are others also experiencing that the system’s fan spins up to a very noisy level much faster than normal after this 3.10 update? I have an original PS3 60GB.
I like what I see after the updating to 3.10.
Changed my PSN id color and like this display much better than the previous.
About 5 of my PS3 friends are on Facebook and I now see what Trophies they achieve…love this feature as well.
Pictures are nice too.

Re Photos:
In the next up-date can we have an option to play items randomly (i.e. ‘shuffle’). (We get this option under music so why not photos?)
It would be good if this option could also be applied to playlists, individual folders or “all”.

There are a lot of sites that don’t screened properly.
As a lot of user told before we need a flash update also streaming Divx is needed again. We have VOB registration but nobody can use it.
Who really needs Facebook on a PS3?
improve the stability and update the needed codecs for the browser. This is not really hard to do?!?
Especially in Germany streaming from the net is used much.
