It’s GO Time: PSPgo Available October 1st

204 0

Hi everyone! October 1st is nearly here and we’re extremely excited to have you experience the PSPgo first hand very soon. As most of you already know, the PSPgo is the smallest and mightiest PSP system yet and features 16GB of internal memory, as well as expandable storage to handle multiple applications – games, videos, photos, music, Internet and more. Designed specifically for those who don’t want to carry around physical discs, PSPgo offers the same rich and immersive gaming and entertainment experience as the PSP-3000 system, but in a smaller form-factor with sliding display panel. With over 225 games and thousands of pieces of digital content available (with more games and movies launching every week), you’ll see why the PSPgo is, without a doubt, the best digital portable experience.

We’ve seen a tremendous response to the “It Only Does Everything” campaign for the PS3 and with the launch of PSPgo just days away, we wanted to give you a first look at a new dedicated marketing campaign focusing on the PSPgo system. We’ve created a robust TV, print and digital campaign to show off this digital portable experience, and support the best lineup of content available on any handheld system. Digital games such as Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet and SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 are only possible on the PSPgo – no other digital handheld can support the depth of gameplay and graphical richness inherent to these titles.

We’ve once again partnered with Deutsch LA to create a new PSPgo spot with the tagline, “Its go time”. Starting today, you’ll see TV spots running through the holiday season. For a sneak peek on what’s debuting during tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys game, check out the video below.

From digital gaming, movies and TV shows, to built-in wireless LAN and Bluetooth, to Skype and Remote play, PSPgo offers a complete, digital entertainment experience. With the sheer amount of games and entertainment content arriving on the PlayStation Store, PSPgo owners will get to enjoy the very best digital handheld experience.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback. Be sure to pick up a PSPgo on October 1st and enjoy the newest addition to the PSP platform!

  • I really wish that thing had a touch screen, but I understand why it’s not there. I’m sticking with my 3000 and it’s 16gb stick.

  • Sony: Output audio through headphone jack on the PS3 controller!!!

  • I’ll wait for price drop as i have more time than money. :)

  • This idea was a huge mistake, not only are they not supporting any good will program for users who have stuck with the PSP (I have a launch 1000), the 3 free games to download at launch is only available in Europe. Something seems really off about this launch, I expect a giant FLOP sound at launch. Way to mess with your customers, Sony.

  • Let me just start off saying I love the Playstation brand I own two PS3’s and recently sold off all my PSP umds and PSP 2000. Im getting a go but after the recent announcement that EU would be giving away 3 free games with an upgrade but NA wouldn’t get it i got really mad. Im getting a go and i will continue to support them but please give us something back besides a stupid PS Thanks email.

  • No UMD support. lol. Still hanging on to my PSP-1000 series.

  • Too expensive, not enough incentives to own it.

Why are the digitally distributed games as much as the UMD’s? Makes no sense.

I’ll pass until the price drops.

    Better luck next time guys.

  • Mr. Koeller,

I can’t for the life of me belive you just came on here and didn’t address your earlier (but now failed) promise of a UMD transfer service.

Your lack of sensitivity to this issue has just sealed my decision to forgoe the go and purchase a competitors product.

Just like Grace pushing me to iTunes and Xbox for video services in Canada … your lack of addressing the real needs/concerns of your clients has pushed me and my not insubstantial gaming budget to another firm.

    Sad really.

  • i just wanna know if Motorstorm Arctic Edge will be available to download on october 1st ???

  • Wish I can be at THAT kind of party :(

  • Many people are misinformed. They are finally making profit on the slim. I do agree though, $249 is out of my price Rand for the system. I will ge the go when the price falls under 200. No need to rush into the new technology even though there are many games I would like to play on the go. It will be a difficult wait.

  • NO UMD on the GO?? I´ll stay with my 1000 series!!! till i know that there is an existing way to play the UMD´s I´m so not buying it! way to go Sony!

  • Another unparalleled launch from Sony.
$249 seriously? The machine has less components than the PSP-3000 it probably costs a heck of a lot less to manufacture. For technology that’s almost 5 years old. And to add insult to injury the European version adds Grand Turismo as a pack in. And North America gets a DEMO? Come on… On top of that I can buy an ipod touch with a touch screen and better executed UI…

Please lower the price to match the current PSP-3000… Then I’ll buy one

  • I REALLY HATE THE WAY “PLAYSTATION” IS SAID AT THE END OF THE COMMERCIAL!

  • Um. Let’s see…

-No free GT like Europeans are getting.
-No 3 free game voucher like SCEE region
    -No GT branded PSPgo.
    -Overpriced at $250.
-Failure to bring anything new to the table other than just a new look and Digital Distribution (which can be a plus or minus depending on your views)
    -Needs new cables for everything

Am I missing anything? I think I’ll pass and stick with my PSP2000. Sony, next time you make another handheld, bring something new to the table instead of just rehashing an old device that you’ve used before (that wasn’t even a gaming device), and slapping digital distro on it.

  • So much hate.

    Anyway!

Day one purchase for me. I’m getting the white one! :)

  • Although I support the PSP Go, I’ll be honest – The commercial turned me off a bit. It was a bad commercial. Bad taste in music, it makes little sense. Were you trying to say that it’s for everyone or something? I couldn’t tell. I didn’t know what the last game showed was until I looked at the text beneath it, too.

You should have made a commercial with more facts like the PS3 Slim commercials. This commercial’s bad.

  • I think that it should be lower price
but i think some other people on other sites are complaining about not haveing a touch screen which is sad which is weird because this is a psp 1.5 not psp 2 and i my self is gonng to get a psp 3000 when prices decrease which should

  • and most ppl are complaing that a “new system fails ” which isn’t even true its just a psp go you ppl so dumb but when this relase prob couple years before a next system relase

  • In the UK it’s so overpriced it’s almost funny. I know I will love GT PSP and LBP, but I know I’ll love them on my 2000 as well.

I think the original PSP came out in the UK for £179, and now they are charging four years later £225 for essentially the same thing…. right. Oh and I will still have to use my 2000 for all my UMDs. Patapon 2, god of war.. retribution, motorstorm and more. So what’s the point?

I also know that the iPod touch gives you double the memory, is pushing new technology rather than just putting old technology in a fancy sliding casing and calling it new.

It also has an infinitely better web browser and is a fantastic media player. The PSP is just for games. I know some people do use it as a media player, and good for them, but I prefer to keep that stuff seperate and use my memory stick for games instead.

I don’t really understand Sony. On one hand they are making huge strides with PS3, but then at the same time going backwards with PSP.

  • Two words! OVER PRICED!

  • Love that it’s download only. I really want to see more PS3 functionality on the XMB and in-game unique features per game.

I hope you guys don’t limit the PS3/PSP connectivity to just a PSP game version. Like Assassin’s Creed II and Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines PSP.

Hope you guys add an XMB option on the PSP dedicated to special features for a PS3 game. Say for the upcoming MAG, if you own a PSP Go or PSP, you detect the game and download a special feature. You launch the feature, let’s say the feature is a special dynamic Map of the Battlefield for the level you are playing online in MAG and pressing a button would reveal enemies within a 20 yard radius for a limited time and then it would go on cooldown.

  • You can get the PSP Go for $212.49 with free overnight shipping. Just add it to the cart and use this code for 15% off… 6FWJ247J1P44CK

I just pre-ordered mine on there. This makes it a little bit better price point to justify buying the Go.

    -Enjoy Fellas

  • You can get the PSP Go for $212.49 with free overnight shipping on DELL.com. Just add it to the cart and use this code for 15% off… 6FWJ247J1P44CK

I just pre-ordered mine on there. This makes it a little bit better price point to justify buying the Go.

    -Enjoy Fellas

  • Forgot to mention that the sale is going on at DELL.com

  • I’m hoping for some great deals around black friday or possibly a price drop if it does bad.

  • lol the first guy is at a sexy party and he’s playing PSP???????

  • sweet, but unfortently i wont be picking up PSPgo October 1st due too i have to save my money for a pumpkin festival thats going on this weekend here where i live.

  • i like how they show is the video promoting the PSPGO yet we dont get the free games like in Europe so because they dont want to carry it there they get free stuff and we get a demo

  • Damn SCEA why dont we get that awsome deal like Europe, they get Gran Turismo and 3 free games.

Shouldnt we get something like that, and that Rock Band lite dont count!

  • Mr. Koller,

I am a market research analyst in Southern California specializing in the CE industry. I have a personal interest in games and a background in research consulting designed at shaping corporate strategy. I have submitted resumes to SCEA and thought I would try to reach you here as a less conventional approach.

Looking at this list of responses reads like many of the projects that I have worked on. I would like an opportunity to discuss my background and goals with you and to explain how I can benefit the hardware marketing division at Sony with my insight as both a professional and enthusiast.

I’m sure you understand that I can not post my contact information here, but welcome you to reach out to me via my board information.

    Regards,
    Kyle

  • I’m one of the few people who own hacked PSPs and play both purchased and downloaded games.

I was really excited about the PSPGo. But why can’t I transfer games I already own? Because Sony only cares about getting this out the door, not about having a complete product.

Reviews for the Go are unanimously bad, and so I will keep my money, buy a 16 GB Duo stick, and stick that into my hacked Phat.

I consider myself pretty Sony loyal, so if I’m not buying, I would consider this product an Epic Fail.

  • whens the next ps3 commercial spot coming?

  • I hope that the PSPgo means more timely announcements as to what exactly we’ll be getting on the PlayStation Store. It would be great to know what’s coming out before the week it comes out on.

Not only that, but people need time to plan their purchases. Network cards need to be bought, budgets need to be set, etc.

  • I will probably get one sometime (I do love digital distribution and I know EXACTLY how the DRM works so backing up content and managing accounts is no problem), but for the purchase price of $250, I would also require a date with Christina Lee, Veronica Belmont, and Audrey Cleo, all at the same time.

  • Is there a concise list of what games are downloadable? I want a PSP Go rather than a PSP for its size, but I also want to be able to play all the MGS games, Crisis Core, Dissidia, Syphon Filter, God of War, and all the other great games that are already out for PSP.

  • Digital Distribution is an absolutely unacceptable way to do business.

I will never, *ever* buy a PSP Go – or any machine where games are distributed digitally for that matter. (Better keep discs for PS4 Sony, or you’ll instantly lose a customer!)

You will pry my discs from my cold, dead hands.

  • I have to agree that that ad is kinda…not a seller to put it nicely. I don’t have a PSP and although the Go is appealing, I wouldn’t get it unless the price dropped pretty severely.

  • Trying to grab new PSP buyers with a $250 machine when $200 value bundles exist is an interesting approach to say the least. Frankly, I want a PSP Go, I really do, but I want to be able to play my old games without my hands hurting (PSP-1000 is too heavy). I already put my money down on them and not being able to play them on the shiny new system is a bummer. Give me a PSP-4000 with a slider and I’ll be one happy camper! Regarding the “PSP-1000 launched at $250, so the price is justified!” argument: that was 4 years ago.

  • Now that the PS3 is actually getting some good advertising, it may be time to change things so the PSP does too. The video above is borderline terrible, though still on par with what the PSP has recieved in the past. Over half of the commercial is wasted airtime that should be extolling the benefits, features, etc. of the PSP/PSPgo.
What exactly am I supposed to take from passing the PSP around a crowded car or being used at a fashion show that a cell phone or music device can’t mimick to equal efficiency.

    Grade: D

  • Also, why make the prominent parts of it out of gloss plastic? Every video I’ve seen has a guy handling the PSP go with a flurry of fingerprints all over; not attractive. If I were designing the thing, I would have given it a matte finish.

  • I got to play with one at Comic-Con and it is a lot of fun, but I cancelled my pre-order when I learned that there is no UMD conversion plan. There isn’t even a free game plan for NA. I also read on IGN that it has a shorter battery life. Not to mention that it has a smaller screen and you can download all of the games to earlier models of PSPs as well. And they are charging $50 less then a PS3 for this?

I am better off getting a bigger memory stick for my 2000. That would cost less and give me both UMD and digital game options.

I love the idea behind the Go, but I will not buy it until some of these problems are taken care of.

  • By the way, nice job glossing over the absence of any real response to the issue of UMD conversion. I guess saying nothing says everything, doesn’t it?

  • Regarding the commercial itself and PSP ad campaign: I don’t think including people in the commercial is such a good idea. If you want to sell the product, show me all the great features and show them working well. I’m sure the people at the party left the PSP somewhere and never thought about it again. (Unless that was a PSP party! lol).

  • Any specials for those picking up a PSPgo? Also, is there any packages for the PSPgo, or is it just the PSPgo only?

  • To be quite honest, the ad makes me feel a little down. When I think of an on-the-go gamer, I think of a kid sitting on the school bus (or back of the car) during the trip back home. Someone on the subway, waiting for their stop. Something like that. I mean, really? When you’re at a party surrounded by beautiful women and friends.. you’re going to ignore them and play a PSP Go right in their faces? That’s actually pretty rude.

As for buying one, I had one pre-ordered.. but canceled after hearing that were would be no UMD to Digital program. My brother and I have a large collection on UMDs. I especially was looking forward to the Go. I guess I’ll do just fine playing Monster Hunter Freedom on my trusty PSP 1000.

  • I’d rather buy PS3 slim than PSPgo. It looks cool but $250 is too much when you can buy basically the same feature for $179.

    Epic Fail, SONY!

  • On October 1st The White PSPgo is Mine! :)

  • @2

    Agree

  • Oh No… I’m sorry, I have been an avid Sony fan since day 1 and I really try to support you guys with buying your products, but this is just out of my reach. I honestly love this product, but there is just 1 thing that needs to be fixed for me to invest in this PSP. Price!!! I would be fine with at least a $50 decrease, but the more the better. To be honest, the price is the only issue I have, I was a PSP owner but I turned it in because I never bought a Memory Stick, so I could never save, so it’s great to see this one comes with memory. True to my word, the day it gets a price drop, I will be in line purchasing it. I love all you’re doing but I must draw the line somewhere.
