UPDATE: The PS3 Firmware (v3.00) update is now live. You can use this update to upgrade your system software to version 3.00.
Just in time for the official launch of the 120 GB PlayStation 3, PS3 Firmware (v3.00) will be available shortly. As detailed during gamescom 09, 3.00 will introduce a number of great features, including “What’s New,” a redesigned status indicator and Friends List, and support for new avatars and dynamic themes.

1. We should have the option to revert to the original Friends list, I actually like to SEE my background while I’m doing stuff.
2. The big baby font is horrendous. I could see the font just fine before… now it’s just….. BAM, NO BACKGROUND FOR YOU, LOOK AT US INSTEAD.
Please fix it within the week, and we can pretend that these to travesties never happened. :-)

I completely agree with all of these complaints. This is the first update in a year that’s made me want to say something, in hopes of this being fixed. Just to restate what is now abundantly obvious..

Worst of all is the Store icons. I’ve bought $172.19 from the store over the last four months and this makes me want to boycott all together. They are already making an incredible amount of money off of DLC, especially since they’re charging the same for DLC when it’s the exact same price for a physical copy (BACKUP!). There is no reason to push it in our faces. I turn on my PS3 and the first thing I see in the upper right corner, “Visit the PlaystationStore.” I don’t want my PS3 telling me to buy [DELETED] everytime I turn it on.

But Sony, seriously, who on earth thought those big grey boxes on the friends list were a good design change? They look horrible.
Please change them or make them optional!
Since you seem to keep banging on about giving us more choice, can you give us the choice to go back to 2.80 please?

* Please make only two ajusts: we can change the font size and turnoff de grey box in friend list. I can see that bigger font was to turn the system more “casual”, but we prefer smaller fonts.

Can we have the “OPTION” to turn off that ticker? and what’s the deal with the Huge Grey boxes around the friends list and my Psn pic/avatar? You can’t even fill the comment section all the way. Old friends list set up much better imho. Updated my New Slim and I REFUSE to update my launch 60 GB PS3 with this update. PLEASE SONY stop the 1 step forward and 2 steps back routine , Ok?

I can live with bigger fonts and icons, I even prefer it since I had a problem with reading stuff with everything being so small, but give us the option to choose how big the GUI is! Some people like it smaller and slicker, and I must agree that now the XMB looks very ugly. Those gray boxes must go as well!
Stop all this autopromotion! Don’t act like Microsoft! If we want to buy something, we go to the PSS, don’t shove it down our asses with PSS icon all over the place!

Thats the statusbar overlapping the XMB when not logged into PSN. When you are logged in, you can image it looks even more horrible
i already downloaded and installed. no, i just kidding. for almost 2 weeks i waited for this release.
Meh. Aside from the controversial graphical updates, not really a whole lot of new features or anything. I see several new advertising streams available in the XMB for Sony to make some money. Otherwise, nothing that warrants the ‘3.0’ version number.
i think the update is great could do with less playstation store symbols though, and who cares about cross game voice chat. ooo let me talk to bunch of random friends of whom half i may not know and just sit there and laugh about stupid crap

The non-removeable ticker-tape is my largest complaint…its quite annoying, and reminds me why I kept the other one off at all times. Don’t get me wrong, being able to see how many of my friends are online at a glance without actually going to the friends list is nice, but the ticker needs to be user-disableable.
The pure grey boxes behind the Friends list are…well, not exactly asthetically pleasing. Different colors, maybe a bit of transparency, et cetera.
And the only other complaint I have…and this isn’t even a *complaint* so much as it is a preference…is the new PS3 logo. As a nod to those of us who loved the old logo and startup noise, maybe an option on our Big Black Monolith PS3s, “Use Classic Startup Tone/Logo” in the Settings menu. The new tune is okay, but I find I really do miss the old PS3 logo. Call me nostalgic, but it just felt a bit classier.
Anyway, that’s my feelings on the new update. I’m sure there are many under-the-hood improvements, but the asthetic changes (I hesitate to use the word “improvements” given the reaction to most of it in less than 12 hours) will, I hope, be addressed. Or at least made user-changeable.
This update is actually really sweet!! The text is not all that much bigger and the changes to the XMB background is quite nice. I am hoping the grey area in the background of the friends list will be utilised by some form of avatar or picture of choice to remove the dull look. Fantastic update!!
I don’t see any great new features, myself. Some cosmetic changes. Some new revenue streams for Sony with plenty of new ad space to sell in the XMB now. But nothing really meaningful at all. Meh.

A couple good changes…
I like the transparency effects like the text intelligently fading away and the waveform background dropping out of focus.
Also like the larger video thumbnails which reduces the need for obtrusive text.
No Parties and no Cross-Game invites? FAIL!
How long you plan to keep frustrating your customers, Sony? If it is a matter of costs, I’m sure most of us will pay a fee gladly to see our system stand up to the other one out there.

I and on the behalf of many PS3 owners want you guys to give us some changes and options to the modified XMB.
1.The size of the icons and font on the XMB is in my opinion to large and i want the option of making the smaller.
2.The ticker. You should have an option to disable it, beacause it’s annoying at sometimes.
3.The greyboxes behind the friends list, should be removed or have an option of disabling it, yes it is not that goodlooking :/
4.What have you guys done to the Playstation logo and the chime when you start games?! I want it back or atleast options of turning it on.
5.The PSS shortcuts. We in some parts of europe don’t even have the Videostore, so why should we even have an Shortcut there?
So please all people at Sony. Give us a update which can give us our old XMB look back.

Ok after a few hours of messing, I found that the friends list has actually grown on me, but surely when making the font size huge you thought about allowing people to reduce it again. I mean come on, I guess its good for SD TV’s and for people with bad eye sight but I’m neither of those and I’d appreciate it if you could create a quick fix that adds the option to change the font size. Even if you can just change it between the larger font and the original font, I really can’t stand the new size.
Other than that, excellent job with the firmware. Could you create a post that shows all of the update features, and by all I mean every single one of them, not just the 4 supposedly “main” ones that were on the feature list at dl.
Oh and btw guys, on the main XMB screen, shake your controllers up and down or side to side, it manipulates the sparkles!!!
No cross game chat/invite and no party chat. Basically this update is all about promoting the store. What a joke! I might have to switch on my xbox360 as i was hoping this update would bring us upto date with the gaming services live has, Guess not. Im betting no dev will reply either to everyones frustrations. Tipical! Im not buying a slim untill these features are added. If my ps3 dies, i have my 360! better for online gaming atm.

Thanks for making my beautiful 1080p HDTV (which was all high res) and then implementing an update which seems to make everything really big and look like a crappy SDTV.

I don’t like it, at all. The info-video made me excited but now that i’ve got an hands-on with the real deal i’m just feeling it, there’s things like ; i can’t scroll the XMB anymore when i’m listening to music (and that has to be the most annoying thing with FW 3.0), the friendslist design with the boxes (did someone from microsoft snuk in and designed it?), the font has changed and got bigger (nay!) and yeah, i can’t scroll the XMB when i’m listening to music.
As i see it, alot of people are complaining and want to see things like they were before 3.0, except that we love the new battery-icon position (thank you!).

you promised that we would be able to change the XMB to the old style… all i get if i change to classic is less sparkles that i never wanted…
– i don’t like the big icons… (is this vista or 7 where big icons are cooler) don’t like that at all, we nee the ‘small’ real classic XMB back
– everywhere access to the playstation store… (why? cause i’m to dumb to find it under the playstation network icon?) deactivate please
– BIG colorful psn advertisments or ‘news’… (that totally kills the simple and clean look of the XMB) let me at least deactivate this!!!
– the friendslist looks awful with the big grey boxes around every name… what were the designers thinking??? it absolutly doesn’t fit the rest of the new and old design -> change (features are useful)
– give us the ability to use the old startup screens and sounds
– the last thing i complain about is the box in the top right corner… i know what my avatar looks like… i don’t need to see it all the time. and and the box around the infos doesn’t really fit the rest of th design… just remove it and the avatar.

this update is cool to me, still wish they would scrap there browser and allow some third parties to make it better. the huge friend list with the boxes is cool to me. I like the larger fonts. They should allow the zoom to work in the store… that info box at the top right takes up too much screen and i dont know how to turn it off.
I think anyone that pay 3 bucks for a theme is retarded.

HELP PLEASE
I have backed up my PS3 last week from my 60 gb console and bought the new 120GB version (part exchanging with my 60 gb console)
I cannot install my backed up system on the new console because the software version is 3.00 and my back up is 2.80
I need to manually download the update but cannot find it anywhere online , does anyone here know where i can get it i am in Ireland but dont think there are seperate updates between the 2 continents

Yeah.. everyone loves the animated themes! But, graphically its a mess, to cite your own marketing campaign “COME ON”, the background boxes for the users has to go!

SONY pleeeeeease release a fw 3.01 with the ability to change everything back to the classic look so many users like. if you made some people happy with the 3.0 style fine… but i don’t wanne miss my the clean and simple look of the ‘old’ XMB.
I really like the update thanks sony! As for the community, they will complain about anything! They cry and whine til you give them an update and then they find something new to cry and whine about! never satisfied thankfully there are others who are happy with what your doing!
Have to say, this isn’t the greatest update. But, I am sure glad that they fixed that web browser. It has improved 100 percent. Before, it would just lock up. But navigating is smooth as a baby’s butt. I hoped they fixed war hawk. That was dead locking as well. Haven’t tested that out yet. Not a fan of cross game chatting. I don’t know how I will fill about as soon as I turn on my PS3 I hear other people talking. (If that is what it does.)
The ps store icons all over the place, going to the network category on startup and huge ticker thing in the corner all ruin the atmosphere too.
Why can’t we just go back to the old uncluttered XMB?

The only thing i like about this update that i’ve seen so far is the sparkles in the background.

OMG those Dynamic themes are total win! Seriously, you gotta download the LBP theme from the US store and get the Afrika theme for free from the Japanese store. This’ll promise something for the future…. Its such a joy to be in the main menu now and those stars twinkling when being in the music screen or browsing *haaah*, lovely… put Enya on and you’ve got a magical explosion on the PS3 going on hahaha…
