Today we’re announcing the expansion of our closed beta test for PlayStation Home to begin at the end of the month.

Home Theme

Later today, the PLAYSTATION Store will be updated with a PlayStation Home theme. By downloading the theme, users are submitting an application to join the PlayStation Home Beta test community. We will be using a variety of criteria including activity on the PLAYSTATION Network to determine eligibility for the Beta community. Existing beta testers have automatically qualified to be part of the expanded beta.

We’re really excited about this milestone and want our most loyal fans to be a part of the evolution of PlayStation Home.

In Europe, SCEE is also beginning their expanded closed beta, directly targeting consumers who have been most active on PLAYSTATION Network and PLAYSTATION Store. SCEE will be in email contact with their PSN audience very shortly.

    Very nice, good thing I am off today. As soon as my update is done the Home theme is next on the list. The theme looks cool and beta access would be awesome.

    for future betas and special invites it’d be cool if u were eligible based on your trophy level. Give a little more incentive for trophy competition

    @ Existing beta testers have automatically qualified to be part of the expanded beta.

    Does this mean current HOME testers? Or people that have beta tested ANYTHING for PS3? I beta tested Warhawk, and would LOVE to be part of the HOME testing.

    Great news Jack.. If you have 2 PS3’s & download it twice, does it double your chances? ;) Also, do you guys plan on adding any new features for the new wave of testers?

    hey my ps3 has just broke so im sending it to sony and getting it back next monday but i cant remember my password for my psn account so ill have no online history and on monday im goin on holiday so i wont have time to download it so if i download it a week later and have no psn history can i still join it because im on my ps3 like all the time. PLEASE REPLY!

    Noel! If you happen to see this is there any way to get the Grafittii theme for the PSP? It’s by far the best out there and would love it on my PSP as well. Sorry for being off topic.

    Oh… and silly me… but I assumed that Canadians would have this Home opportunity. Can you confirm whether Canadians are included?

    … the last time I assumed that Canadians were included I couldn’t figure out why the Movie service didn’t appear in my PSN store like Jack said it would…

    I’m in the GAP, been so since 2006. Now I REALLY hope that is somehow reflected in my account info, and that it gets myself and fellow GAPpers preference! I’d say we deserve something like this. The last thing I officially beta-tested for Sony was Killzone: Liberation’s multiplayer add-on for the PSP, and even that little sample was pretty fun. Ugh now to check for that PSN Store update all day long on my PS3 lol…

    Now, when you say expanding, are you meaning 3 people more, or 4 people more?

    ….Just kidding. It’s finally good to see Home come out of the closet. But knowing that I’ve never gotten an invite or even an email from PlayStation Underground besides when I change my password, I guess my chances are extremely low.

    Is the HOME tied to one PS3 or one PSN account. I have two PSN accounts on my PS3. If both accounts download the theme, will both be eligible for the BETA or just one account? Please clarify this!!!

    Just wanted to say what’s up as I am a new registered user to the blog. I am soooo pumped for this…really hope I can get into this Beta. So I know that acceptance to the beta is determined by your activity on the PSN, but what activity exactly? Is it based on the amount of content you have downloaded, purchased? Just curious. Thanks again for the great news!!!

    i would to be able to be apart of home but the problem is that when i did my user id my email addy i cant get into so i needed to create a new one so my ps id is under my old email addy and this one is my new one and the only way to change my id i would have to start over on all my games

    i have what i believe is an important question.

    how many spots are available for the home beta?

    im curious if a majority of the people applying will be able to get in, or if those in charge are going to skim over the applications and choose a select few.

    Sweet Ill be downloading This and everything In the store today is one great day to be a SONY/PS3 Fan :D

    Hope to get in the Beta because im a very observent guy.. I check all the little details and will ask why things are missing or wrong..

    Im on the PSN Network every night for around 4-5hrs or so every night playing a game or Chatting to my PSN friends :D

    Enjoyed playing the MGO beta and will enjoy the R2 Beta and Socom beta very much.. Im glade were geting these betas a try because theres always room to Fix!

    Well I’m Off for now and will be back to check on for more.. Keep me Posted Team :D

    Be Remoting in to the PS Store on my Lunch Break :P
