  • in/cross game voice messaging AFTER the current bluetooth problem is fixed please..

  • still to clarify to people “Music Playback from Network and USB ingame” still means the developers would have to again patch it to implement it.

  • Pendragonzero and if you don’t get it on the PS1, get a PS3.
(KazeEternal…I think they didn’t state about playing it on the PS3, but on the PS1)

You can mark me a happy PS3 owner.

  • @52 LOL true IGX on PSOne and PS2 is most certainly impossible. Vista on a 386 anyone?

REQUESTED FEATURES -not part of comment-:

Music Playback from Network and USB ingame

  • @50 Logically, of course…

  • This may not be the place to put this item, but thought some may be interested in Home.

    PSXExtreme has the article out:

“Sony: Open Home Beta “Fully Robust”

It used to dominate the news on a weekly basis, especially in the months directly after its unveiling, but since then, we haven’t heard much about PlayStation Home. We’re well aware of the delays, of course, but the last report says an open beta is scheduled for this fall. Well, that’s still the case, as Sony’s PlayStation Network director Eric Lempel says.

In a recent interview with Next-Gen, he said very clearly- “The Home open beta is still on schedule for release later this fall.” He was asked about PSN director Susan Panico’s earlier comments when she said the initial beta rollout would be “similar to Gmail” and it will work just fine as an “open, functioning beta.” This statement was met with mixed results by gamers; some still bitter about the delay saw this as an excuse to release a half-done Home this year. But that really is not the case:

“If you think about Gmail and Susans reference, Gmail when it launched in beta was a fully functional email service. I personally was using it and it offered everything youd expect, but was in beta just to say that theres more to come and maybe its not fully polished. The reason weve been delaying [Home] is so that we can deliver a high quality service that the users will enjoy. Even though it will be in beta, it will be a fair representation of what the service can be and its potential, so it wont be a 0.5 release, it will be a fully robust service.”

So there you have it. Despite the fact that the official launch of Home remains in 2009, we’ll still be able to jump in and test it out this fall. Besides, one has to remember that Home will likely be a service that receives ongoing upgrades and enhancements even after its official release, so if you look at it this way, the open beta rollout isn’t much different than a regular ol’ launch. Oh, and just as a final side note, Lempel did reconfirm Sony’s plan to launch a downloadable movie service for the PS3 in the US this summer. That is a very cool option, and one that should make selling PS3s an even easier proposition.”

  • @#14

Where on earth do you live? 5 days? It only came out on July 3rd and today is July 5th. That my friend does not add up to 5 days. Maybe you guys should just calm down. I am sure they are working on it as we speak. What would you rather have them updating this blog every 10 minutes just so everyone will know exactly what is happpening every second or have them working hard on correcting the problem? I am sure that as soon as there is news they will let us know. Go play a game and chill.

  • Another wish list add for me…..when Sony does get the downloadable movie service up…can Canada be included, please ?

I know XBOX still only serves the US, but sure would make it nice if the PS3 supported North America.

Probably due to US and Canada having different laws on it.

  • Why the **** did you guys take down the Super Stardust HD patch?

I downloaded and installed 2.40 flawlessly before you guys took it down, and by the time I went to update my copy of SSHD to add trophy support the update had been removed.

W…T…F… Come on Sony this is EXTREMELY disappointing and is making you look VERY bad. You should be at work fixing the cluster**** you guys have created for everyone instead of taking the friggin’ weekend off.

    Jesus…

  • SantanaClaus89…they may have done that so that they could see what the problem is though I’m not certain.

If you want to try in game music and have Super Stardust HD, it should work, as on my PS3 it worked before the 2.40 patch.

Go to Options, Audio, Custom music and then just below that Select your music…(only from your HDD though).

The trophy feature will be back soon and you should be happy.

  • Well I’m one of the lucky ones to get 2.4 firmware in my PS3 with no problems and I love it! Yet there is some stuff that get really really frustrating that I bet it could be easy for you guys to fix:

    1. Batery Icon when pressing PS Button ones, I play my PS3 in a SDTV and there is enought space on the right of the date to put the Batery Icon.

    2. When I browse I got so used to press /\ and then tap right to access the FILE option, but now I have to tap down and then right. Most of the “Save” options are in FILE and I bet everybody uses FILE more than SEARCH. So can you move SEARCH to the bottom or something? Since is easier and faster for us to just press right to access “Save target as”

    3. Also when you click on a video link that is plausible to download, could you guys give the option to Stream or Download when you press X? I mean you press X then a screen will pop asking you “you want to stream or download?”, making it faster if you don’t want to change the SEARCH position.

    4. Change the way you can access the profile while having in-game XMB. This situation is happening to me a lot: I get a message, I go to In-game XMB and I was so used to press X on my friends icon to get my messages displayed. Now I get the profile and there is no option to see the messages in the bottom icons. Now dunno if you guys can change it so the messages get displayed when press X instead of the Profile. Or maybe you guys can put [] to bring the messages or profile depending on how you guys decide. [] is basically non functional in the FRIENDS section, might as well give it an use. I know we have the “Message Box” option but sometimes when you have more than 30 people scrolling down or up can be quite troublesome. Also the more ways to access this should be better.

This are my only complains besides that In-game XMB is what you guys promise, we now just need to wait for developers to get working on Trophies and in-game soundtrack patches. Thanks for your time and I hope you guys can fix this in 2.41 or something close.

    Thanks for your hard work!

  • BTW I forgot to add, could you guys add a x2 or x10 speed in the music section? I hear all my podcast in my PS3 and recently when I try to reply to a friends messages I bring up their profile by mistake and the podcast stops transmitting. Then I have to fast forward it to the point where I was listening which can take a while. That is all, thanks!

  • any word on super stardust HD team pack? we’ve been hearing rumors that the pack was pulled with 2.40 but i haven’t seen anything official. are we going to get it? i’m striving to get all the trophies.

  • I’m getting impatient of having a split community… I guess there are no more game updates to give trophy access until 2.40 is fixed…

  • I got Super Stardust HD teampack but right after 2.40 came out…then reading these blogs found that was pulled too…most likely due to the 2.40 patch problem.

    Teampack works great.

  • Teampack is nice….you’ll get an option that allows you to play split screen….as well you can customize you ship now…and there’s a few other features with it.

  • How come it’s taken so long to address the status on 2.40 again? Have you figured out what the issue could have possibly been with many users? …Or not…. :/

  • Been using the new 2.40 update and all working ok. No problems with it ;) (U.K PS3 60GB)

  • @55 GGCAN wrote “Besides, one has to remember that Home will likely be a service that receives ongoing upgrades and enhancements even after its official release, so if you look at it this way, the open beta rollout isn’t much different than a regular ol’ launch.”

Like the PS3 and in-game XMB?

  • By far this is the least hate-filled comment section of the week lol. Sony, do take you time to fix the 2.4 upgrade. In fact, I wish you guys had waited until E3 to release that firmware, but I guess that the numerous leaks forced your hand early.

I am kinda annoyed by the media… Not just the firmware update leak but every ting that is released unofficially. It makes us look so impatient and spoiled.

  • I will just say one thing Sony did some great things this week. And thank you for it all. :)

  • Thanks Jeff.Do you have any info on when more areas are getting PSN cards. Thanks again.

  • Anxiously waiting for 2.41 now…

  • @5
i had a successful install, but with such little information in that status update report given wednesday night, i’m afraid as well. i for one will not even be turning my ps3 on again until we have more information or 2.41 comes out. i figure its just better to be safe than sorry and even though it may work perfectly, i’d rather not use it than have a bricked ps3. and its terrible, because i REALLY want to use it. =[

  • @73 Jman8…..Sony already stated if you have the patch you are ok.

I’ve had it since midnight July 2nd and been playing each day since will absolutely no problems.

I understand though your concerns, but think you should be alright.

  • Any idea when 2.40 will be back out? I take it not until next week some time now?

  • Thank you for my T-Shirt i love it. Also 2.40 is a breath of fresh air so thank you guys for bringing it out before E3. I hope you do even better than the last E3 which Sony clearly dominated. The PS3 is on track to dominate the market. I hope that there is more support for third parties. E3 2008 is where Sony should really show why the PS3 is now the system to own. And the PSN needs to be as faster than the competitors. I still read that the it is too slow which is true. Home beta needs to come out now or at least a definite announcement for its release in the fall. Games such as Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank need to be reintroduced for the Summer as platinum titles. I have more to write but at another time. Thank you.

  • why do we need XMB during a movie? you guys are too much. it wouldnt even be used. “sorry hannah let me pause the movie so i can messege my friend”

  • i love 2.40, sucks for all those who arent experiencing it at the moment

  • Another blog post from Sony, and still no update about 2.40 or what the [DELETED] is going on. What the hell is wrong with Sony’s customer service? do these guys have down syndrome or something? nobody cares about a weekly recap of what was discussed on the blog. SONY, YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT TO KNOW [DELETED] IS GOING ON WITH 2.40.

  • wtf is going on with 2.40, wheres your customer service at? nobody cares about a weekly recap, fix the damn update.

  • can u guys please update us on Firmware 2.40?

  • i’m grateful for the update. i’ve had no problems with 2.40. thanks Sony!

  • i have one ps3 at my moms and i got the update and it worked good but when i went to my dads i couldn’t use the update which made me a little mad because i had just bought super stardust HD.I can wait though for the new v2.40.

does anyone know what games we can use the music for?

  • @82 (SDCFAN21) only Super Stardust HD has in game custom music and only from your HDD.

  • @everyone whining about 2.40

Do you guys know anything about computer programming? It’s hard enough to find and fix bugs if there’s a definite pattern to them, but if there’s not a pattern, the problem could be ANYWHERE. For all they know, they’ll have to slog through a few million lines of code before they find what is wrong and then they have to fix it too.

Given that, how, pray tell, do you expect them to know how long it will take them to fix it? And would you rather them tell you it will be fixed on July 6, 2008 AD at 3:04 and 57.98 seconds EST and then it’s not done by then??

Cut them some freakin’ slack here…

  • I didn’t realize this until watching the 1st demo video Sony provided on XMB…but they stated in that video ‘please keep in mind’ this is only a concept for now….so possibly in furture updates, we’ll have the ability to use the feature like we were shown in the video.

  • killer_meatballs

    Can’t wait to use 2.40.
    Waiting patiently1

  • @83 also does PAIN and High Velocity Bowling

  • i need to know if this will ever be in a update or will ever be plannd in an update
this has nothing to do with video,in-game,friends,imagaes,trophies.
    But internet service.
I know that there are a ton of people out there who use some sort of mobile phone internet service wich probaly means that they cant go online with there PS3 without buying a $200 or more modem do to the fact that the modem is made for one device and connects to a USB port. im currently using sprint Aircard and i know there are other out there like verizon. The problem is that the PS3 does not reconize it as an internet connection. so im woundering if this has ever come to mind to update the PS3 tio use the aircard as an alternit source of internet and online play. but there could be another problem then that has nothing to do with the PS3. The aircard bandwidth. iDK if it enough to even have good online play. So please reply on this if you guys can. Ill probaly be posting this in my other comments jsut a very short version of this though

  • Thanks Sancho45…I have HVB and haven’t played it since I patched with 2.40..

  • Here is my 2 cents on the matter

InGame XMB for PS2/PS1/DVD/Bluray – probably not going to happen. PS2/PS1 may have had less ram but remember emulation is NOT an easy thing to do. My dual core Athalon XP processor and 1G of DDR2 ram fail to fully run Super Mario RPG on my computer. I own the original copy which got damaged so I have to play my backup copy.

40 GIG BC with PS2 games – Not going to happen ever. People didn’t care enough about BC. The ones that did got a 60 Gig. Not enough demand for it so get a PS2. Sure you can buy one off of someone for like 30 at Craigslist or something.

Fix Battery Indicator over Clock – What’s wrong with it exactly? I have no issues iwth battery indicator or clock

Music Playback from Network and USB ingame – Just copy your files and quit complaining. You ahve plenty of space if you dont’ then upgrade it.

Some of those had fixes you just didn’t want to do them.

By the way I am looking for more Avatars. I think the last time I noticed an update in the Avatars section is when Ratchet and Clank were there or Eye of Judgement. We’d like a few more every now and then. We all know THAT isn’t hard. They’re easily made pics. Fans could even do them. All you’d have to do is approve and allow us to update.

  • @GGCAN it has had custom music for a while… way before 2.40 you have to hit select i believe

  • @thingg and everyone else whining about the whiners…

us “whiners” are pissed because we were promised something and waited patiently, but instead, got nothing! Nobody told Sony to release the update without fixing the problems and including what we asked for. We shouldn’t be content that Sony gave us something. If that were the case then why have this blog and why not keep the PS3 exactly as it was when it came out? Cause when we bought it we were expecting the same, if not more, from Sony PS! If we never “whined” in the first place, this would be update 1.0!!! Now, I realize some of the “whining” is absurd, but most of it is just asking to do what the 360 does, not better. And they are in the market to compete with MS so, don’t tell us to go buy a 360. The reason we stay with Sony is cause we believe in their products and have for years, even decades! We just want what we know they can do. If Jeff was able to post a weekly recap on the blog today, then he could of posted a status on the update fix. But most likely, everyone is off until Monday. So, let’s just hope this gets fixed and they deliver what we’ve been waiting for and what we deserve!

    In-game/ x-game voice chat w/video possibly
    In-game/ x-game invites

Trophies for previous and mandatory for new releases

  • Wow, just like Super stardust.

And here I had the game since January this year and didn’t know about it.

I kind of like this one better in HVB as you only have to press Select on the controller, where as in SSHD you have to go into a separate menu, but either way works great.

Thanks again…and I posted your comment on the 2.40 update blog just in case others didn’t realize.

Good we have these places to meet !

  • @GGCAN

    thanks for the info

to everyone complaining about the whole battery over the clock thing its not really that bad the battery thing is only there for a couple of seconds

  • When can we expect more info about the status of firmware v2.40? No one from Sony is talking about it, even in the blog post made on Wednesday.

Also can we expect SSHD patch to go up again soon? I’ve got firmware v2.40 but can’t yet collect any trophies :P

  • cyclone87 nothing is out yet, but if you want to chance it and I wouldn’t if I was you, you can go to the 2.40 update status.

Echo307 has found a way to get the patch and explains what to do.

He’s even advised that if you’re not willing to take a chance, you should wait until the offical patch from Sony.

  • No 2.40 issues here really. I think my PS3 reboot out of nowhere once though. lol

  • @GGCAN

I already have firmware v2.40, I downloaded it shortly after it was released and had no problems. I’m just wondering when it’s gonna be put back up so I can get the v4.00 patch for SSHD which I assume is going to be put back up at the same time :)
