Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • What is this price?
Yes, we knew that the PS5 Pro would be more expensive because of the economic context, inflation and exchange rates but this is outrageous.
We are rather in hyperinflation since as a reminder, when it was released, the PS5 digital cost €399.99. The Pro at €799.99 is a 100% increase.
What justifies such an increase? Why not have limited it to 50% which is already a big increase?

For comparison between the release of the PS5 digital and the Pro:
    $399.99 -> $699.99 => +75% (current price: $449.99 -> $699.99 => +55%)
    399.99 =€ -> €799.99 => +100% (current price: €449.99 -> €799.99 => +78%)
    £359.99 -> £699.99 => +94% (current price: £479.99 -> £699.99 => +45%)
    Y39,980 -> 119,980Y => +200% (current price: 72,980Y -> 119,980Y => +64%)

  • No built-in disc drive, no sale.

  • Wow, as a middle aged gamer with a stable income, I cant justify this purchase. I was fully onboard during the presentation, but with the price reveal it went from “heck yeah” to a “hard nope”. And thats before adding whatever the disc drive and vertical stand will cost. As it is I’m shifting more and more towards purchasing multiplatform titles on pc, just because I don’t wanna experience a watered down version. The last time I bought a second version of a console was the ps2 slim, and I’m apparently continuing on that trend.

  • First you increase the DualSense’s cost and then this price point. Really now?

  • Is the “sold separately” vertical stand really necessary for placing the device vertically? What would happen if we set it up vertically without the stand? Would it affect air cooling or cause other issues? Also, can the base PS5 vertical stand be used with the PS5 Pro?

By the way, not including the vertical stand is a major disappointment for me, especially at this price point. It feels like you’re selling an incomplete product at a premium price.

  • But will next gen Bloodborne launch alongside it?

  • If PS6 gets similar price as PS5 Pro, PS5 will very likely be my last PlayStation console.

  • the price is way too crazy ill be honest

  • €799 and not even a disc drive. What is Sony up to? I’ve owned every PlayStation console since the PS3, and for years I’ve just been spending money because some drive or controller always breaks, and now this overpriced price. I just can’t understand why Sony always has to go one step further and push it even more.

  • Microsoft is releasing an all digital Xbox with no gpu upgrade with the same 2 terabyte hard upgrade for $599 100 dollars more for gpu is worth it by those standards my only question is can you add an additional m2 ssd as well

  • Anyone knows if the fps gonna go higher than 120?

  • Tudo isso para GTA 6 nossa VC é ridícula Sony

  • To this date i’ve always got the best PS console, i wasnt expecting £699 i was expecting around £549 at the most would make it around the PS4 PRO, i think i will be missing this console out untill the price gets adjusted, games look decent enough on the samsung 65” 8k TV atm and i doubt this generation can even output 8k in games, ill save the £700 and buy another years of PS Plus the games are decent enough on there, the Triple A’s are appauling, Sony needs to hammer down on WOKE and polictical gaming, the company is ruining itself and its pride on these new titles.

I still PC game and the console is alot cheaper than it but still its alot of money for what it is there is no doubt sony’s engineering team for the console have pushed the current tech to its limits but the PS6 is the next console i would invest in.

I am supprised the company has opted in to using the New AC Shadows in its trailer,.

    Not this time, next generation!

  • €800 and not even a disc drive, they have finally lost it

  • Does it also comes with a NVME slot for expanded storage?

  • Question: „ It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense…“
Is this onboard or an m.2 Card to put in the ssd bay?

  • Congratulations Sony on absolutely botching the PS5 Pro launch.

The PS5 Pro at roughly $950.00 CDN is almost double the digital version of the original console with the deals available and it comes with a stand (imagine that). This is a minor graphics increase at best with a limited amount of games which can actually take advantage of these improvements and making the stand/drive a separate purchase on a console this expensive is downright criminal.

Oh, the icing on the cake was rising the accessory prices a few days before the announcement – what an incredible middle finger to the PlayStation community.

  • New ps 5 is very good but it is look like ps 5 slim

  • The price of it is abit much with no disc drive hope the is a bundle with it included I’m in the UK but it’s the same price as the us can’t get my head round that

  • I waited long for the ps5 pro, I wanted high framerate, but at this price I rather prefer to upgrade my pc and cancel my online subscription, bye sony!

  • $700 and no disc drive? Y’all crazy.

  • The price of the PS5 Pro is too high. I thought the lessons from the PS3 and PSVR2 would have shown that if the price is set too high, many users simply won’t be able to afford it. I’m concerned about what this means for the future of gaming, especially for loyal players who may be priced out of the experience.

  • People saying just get a PC aren’t making any sense. What kind of respectably performing PC will I get for $700?

  • Yeah, the price mb high, but are you sure about PC prices and similar performance? PS5 Pro is going to provide 4K 60FPS, one hardware for game developers. Try to get 4K 60FPS with good graphics (+ ray tracing) with Nvidia RTX 3060 DLSS 2.0 or 4060 DLSS 3.0 frame generation, it can be challenging to get it stable, and it’s bad optimized in many PC games, so you would need a better GPU.

  • How do I sign up to purchase this ps 5 pro?

  • We have a launch ps5 disc drive and several games, many disc.

If i buy a ps5 pro, can i load my ps5 disc games to the pro as a digital copy through the playstation store ?

  • Please release PS5 Pro in India too!! We need the pricing and specs :D

  • This is a comical level of greed. What a pathetic upgrade for an excessive price. This is an insult to their fanbase who has already been sold overpriced and underperforming accessories.

  • I came out of the PS4 gen hyped for the next, fully supporting Sony. As this gen has gone on however I have steadily felt more and more let down by them. Continually hiking prices, pushing forward with so many live services and now a £699 all digital marginal upgrade. I feel very close to abandoning them in the next gen. Taking a leap and building my own PC.

  • Can’t wait , bring on pre orders 🤍

  • I love how the author of this post that’s a comment next to the button to comment stating don’t be a jerk. You mean don’t argue with the popular opinion? That’s not me. Maybe you should read the article from Forbes magazine regarding the release of this console. It was a disaster of an unveiling that pretty much showed what we don’t need! This console is not $250 more worth of differences like the PS4 pro was versus the PS4. No disc no stand and not much more noticeable performance to the human eye. And let’s not forget that most of us aren’t even going to be able to buy one for 2 years thanks to the scalpers that Sony lets buy all of their stock every time it comes available. I might even consider one of these if they limited purchases to each buyer. Probably not though so no thanks I’ll pass

  • There’s not enough difference for the price to be justified. Not like there was between the PS4 pro and the PS4. Also let’s not forget that most of us aren’t going to be able to get our hands on one for at least a year and a half thank you to Sony not limiting how many units scalpers can buy. No thanks I’ll pass I like my disk and I like my stand-up stand and I’m sick of buying a new console every time One comes out. The older ones end up being paperweights.

  • Will definitely need a disc drive since I currently use the disc drive on my PS5 to play DVDs

  • If I’m able to pre order I’ll get one

  • Hopefully the disc drive on my PS5 can be removed a installed on the PS5 Pro

  • Hopefully I can remove the disc drive on my PS5 and install it on my PS5 Pro.

  • Still baffled at the lack of high quality media to showcase what the hardware can actually do. Not even 2160p near-lossless JPEG screenshots or PNG for perfect still-comparison.

Everyone with a PS5 and a 4K display can play back high bitrate video so you could have shared short demonstration clips.

  • I have a couple questions, can the ps5 pro lay horizontal and would it come with the same Bracket Holder like the PS5 Slim, also can I take out the disc drive out the slim and put it in the ps5 pro ?
Also can the slim cover with the disc drive cover the ps5 pro vice versa and also can I add Storage drive for memory the same way I do for the slim ?

  • £600 with a Blu-ray drive would’ve been a hard (but possible) pill to swallow but £800 is madness.

  • Deleted my last comment because it was true! delete this one too. 799 is over priced, beyond reasonable. the (AI) software isn’t enough to justify this stripped down console price.

overclocking the chip and installing (AI) software doesn’t validate this price increase. then charging people to pay extra if they want to use it as a blue ray player player. bs all around.

the same (AI) software can run on the ps5 and give everyone a performance boost but that doesn’t make money!

  • The Presentation was a disaster. It was too short, and with YouTube video compression, you couldn’t even tell the difference. The price is way too high. No detailed spec sheet on what the console has, no disc drive or stand included. At least add a pro controller if that is the price. You should have lowered the base PS5 to $400 – 450 and introduce the new PS5 pro at $549 for the digital version and $599 for the disc version. Watch the consoles fly off the shelves. Instead we have this. We will see if this works. The market will dictate what will happen. This is a repeat of the Kaz Hirai PS3 era where Sony was arrogant said the ‘next generation starts when we launch’ jacked up the price and they and they were met with negative reaction. They had to fight tooth and nail to keep up with Xbox 360. History is repeating itself. When customers start to abandon your platform, panic will ensue. Time will tell.

  • I have a high-end $2,000 PC with better graphics, but after a couple of weeks of enjoying the super high-quality visuals, I went back to my PS5. It bugs me, though, that some games aren’t playable because the graphics are awful at 60 FPS. This is what I’ve been waiting for so long, so please, Sony, don’t let anyone who left this price range get one before I do.

  • Lol PC gamming gets very atractive

  • Hell yeah I want one now , will sharefactory make use of the extra power and the DVR will it record 4K 120fps game play at 4K60 instead of dropping to 1080P

    :)

  • You could have just thrown the disc drive in for 700. It’s going to cost 830 with the stand. Need to see some banging games from 1st party studios to warrant the price. Also you need to ensure scalpers don’t get hold of this. Should be 1 per account like you did with the PSVR2.

  • Need to add the disk drive and 700 would be fair.

    • That’s very nice of you, but I think more needs to be included in order for the price to be “fair”; a $20 PSN card, a free one year subscription to PS Plus Premium, the vertical stand and GTA6 with exclusive Playstation content for free. These additions would stand a better chance of changing some people’s minds and keep the attention of those who are genuinely interested, in my opinion.

  • price/cost too much! $499 with disc included would have been ok.

  • Are Sony going to attempt to limit the number of these that find their way into resellers hands and also make sure disc drives are available ?
PS5 launch was ruined for many by these people and it look like they are getting in early on the drives, please reconsider not offering a bundle with the drive included.
