PlayStation VR2 players can access games on PC with adapter starting on August 7

When PlayStation VR2 launched last year, we were thrilled to introduce PS5 players to a new generation of VR games with innovative gameplay and immersive sensory features. Inspired by our passion to bring gamers even more content options, we’ve been working to enable access to additional games on PC, complementing the diverse PS VR2 games lineup available on PS5. Today, we’re happy to share that we’ll be rolling out this support on August 7.

Players will have access to buy and play Steam’s expansive library of thousands of VR games, including fan favorites like Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, and War Thunder.

To start, players will need to purchase a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, which will be available for an estimated retail price of $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 at select retailers and direct.playstation.com where available.  Players will also need a commercially available DisplayPort cable (sold separately) that is compatible with DisplayPort 1.4, as well as a Steam account and a PC that meets the minimum requirements below.*

Minimum PC requirements

Here are the minimum requirements for PS VR2 gameplay on PC:

Operating systemWindows 10 64-bit / Windows 11 64-bit
ProcessorIntel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later architecture is required)
RAM / memory8 GB or more
GPU / graphics card-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later architecture is required)
-NVIDIA RTX series
-AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later / AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later
(For the best performance, we recommend that you use an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or later or AMD Radeon RX 6600XT or later graphics card)
DisplayPortDisplayPort 1.4 (must have a standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output port)
USBDirect connection only
BluetoothBluetooth 4.0 or later**

Setup is easy: simply connect PlayStation VR2 to your PC using the PS VR2 PC adapter and the DisplayPort 1.4 cable. Then, download the PlayStation VR2 App and the SteamVR App from Steam. This will allow you to set up PS VR2 on your PC, customize your settings and play area, and start purchasing and playing games in SteamVR.

As with all PC gaming technology, performance may vary depending on your PC setup, including system compatibility and the quality of your DisplayPort 1.4 cable. Please ensure your setup meets the minimum requirements. SteamVR titles also have individual system requirements, so please refer to the game information on Steam.

Feature differences with PS VR2 on PS5

PS VR2 was designed from the ground up specifically for PS5 – so you’ll notice that some key features, like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble), are not available when playing on PC. However, other high-fidelity and sensory immersion features of PS VR2 are supported, including 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, and see-through view, as well as foveated rendering (without eye tracking) and 3D Audio in supported games.***

While the most immersive way to experience PS VR2 gaming remains on PS5, we hope players will enjoy the ability to play an expanded lineup of VR games on PC using the same headset. You can check out Steam’s huge library of multiplayer open worlds, survival horror and stealth action games, sports sims, puzzlers, and free-to-play fan favorites on the Steam Store

Additionally, as part of our Days of Play celebration, gamers in select regions can get $100 off PS VR2 and the PS VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle (for PS5) until June 12. Be sure to check direct.playstation.com (available in select markets) and participating local retailers, as offers and promotion dates may vary by region.

Let us know which games you’re excited to try!

*While DisplayPort 1.4 is a common standard, be sure to check that your PC supports it before purchasing a cable.

**Some Bluetooth adapters may not work due to Bluetooth adapter compatibility. We will share more details closer to launch.

***The 3D Audio experience uses SteamVR’s audio technology instead of Tempest 3D AudioTech, which is only supported on PS5.

  • It hasn’t gone unnoticed that more first-party WWS games are released for Windows PC than for PS VR2 and now after putting minimal effort into PS VR2 support you just make that a PC peripheral too.

PlayStation’s lost its passion.. for PlayStation.

And still no USB save transfer for PS5 saves, just to make PS+ look better.

  • Isn’t perfect but I’m happy, I have a PSVR2 and it will be a nice upgrade to my index for PC VR.

  • This is great news! I do hope that Sony is still planning to give us some exclusives. Maybe Astrobot?

  • Awesome news, hopefully the missing features will follow?

Can we finally have a usb adapter for the dualsense too please?!
Best pad ever made and I’d love to be able to use on my pc with full audio support

  • celestial_luna91

Much long needed thing to get though it’s a keepsake for the future thing right now. Plus might have to build a new pc or upgrade my current one as i do not remember if the builders of it activated my only display port. rip! Need to buy a cable too!

  • Excellent news… PSVR2 is the only serious HMD out there now that covers BOTH AAA platforms. Quest isn’t it (had ‘2 and Pro and LCD sucks for VR and I also went back to preferring wired connection for various reasons from charging batter to latency to compression).

Sony you are in a UNIQUE position to capitalise on AAA VR without all the gimmicky distractions of standalone/META stuff. GO for it! The nay-sayers who say you’ve given up, don’t listen, a few more AAA VR/Hybrid titles (like the next RE – RE9!), a new/ported wipeout, a killzone VR etc along with the PS5 PRO making sure it pushes PSVR2 better would be awesome.

People can chase the gimmicks on Quest/standalone all they like, it gets boring, LCD is bad for VR end of story. Standalone is weak, wireless PCVR is OK but sometimes annoying and the best VR I’ve felt so far was on PS5 with PSVR2 (GT7 and RE:Villlage) even having played Alyx, lone echo echo on PC.

Please don’t give up on it just because people think you have, you could corner the market on “proper” VR, AAA gaming VR, OLED, the HAPTICS (head haptics are awesome for shotgun blasts and in GT7 etc) HDR… leave META to chase themselves to the bottom with LCD and gimmicks, VALVE will be too niche/expensive and NO access to Playstation – only you SONY have the power to harness VR properly for gaming across PC and the dominant console, PS5. Keep at it Sony.

I’m rebuying PSVR2 soon partially due to the PS5 Pro coming but also due to this Adapter making it more value for other VR needs/games/dev (Unreal Engine 5 etc).

I would also implore you to look at updates to add in HDR/haptics / eye tracking for PC over time (obv in tandem with Epic and Valve etc).

    Thanks Sony.

  • charging *Battery

  • No it’s not. It’s fine. Even with the adapter cost you’re still way below comparable headsets on PC with OLED (or microOLED) and this kind of FOV.

Always something to complain about. I’m just glad Sony gave even more VALUE to PSVR2 with this move.

  • You need to get out more.

    Thanks Sony, awesome news!

  • I don’t own a PC, but I do own an iMac.
Either way, like others have said, make ALL PSVR1 games we’ve bought playable on PSVR2.

I’m done otherwise. No longer will I buy PS accessories on a whim when you stop supporting it as soon as it’s released.

I should have learnt my lessons with the Vita back in the day and the lies we were told we could use it for.

  • Is there potential support to come later for HDR and eye tracking where those features are built in PC games?

  • BEST NEWS EVER!!!

    This is huge! Thanks!

  • That leading graphic top of the article sends out a couple of messages:

Message 1 (to pc owners): welcome loverly gamers to our PSVR2 headset. Now you can enjoy Half Life:Alyx with great quality Oled lenses, etc. Enjoy!

Message 2 (to loyal PS5 owners): now you can play beloved Half Life:Alyx on your PSVR2 headset. Ah wait, except you can’t cos you invested your hard-earned cash on a PS5, oops, our bad. But we’ll use the Half Life:Alyx image on the Sony blog just to rub your noses in it. Losers!

I was gonna sell my current PS5 on to get a PS5 Pro. But now thinking maybe I should get a PC instead.

What with the Astrobot debacle, I have to agree with some folk that the PSVR2 headset will be better supported on PC/Steam.

  • I hope eye tracking will be coming in a future patch because it’s the main reason I would use a PSVR2 on my PC instead of a Quest3 with AirLink. I really don’t like cords on my VR headsets, but the eye tracking would make me deal with the cord. I’m mostly interested in it for foveated rendering with VRSS.

  • I’m confused – if it supports foveated rendering on PC games, that means the PC needs to know where the user is looking so it can render that area in higher resolution. If it knows where the user is looking, how is that different from eye tracking?

    • Probably not tracked, just assumes you are always looking at the center of the screen and foveates the periphery

  • Looking forward to trying Half-Life: Alyx on the PS VR2 headset with the KAT Walk C2+ treadmill! I’ve only played a bit of Alyx on the Quest 2 through Steam Link and held off when I heard the announcement of the PC compatibility with the PS VR2 headset. Even without all the features being accessible, I’m very excited to play PC VR titles with better visuals and much better controllers! =)

  • Why won’t you make these games available for us on ps5???

  • nicholai_of_time

How in the world can you have foveated rendering without eye tracking? That part of the announcement makes no sense at all.
And why no HDR? Otherwise, this is great news.

    • Headsets without eye tracking do “foveated rendering” by just leaving the peripherals of your vision blurry. It doesn’t track your eyes, just fixed. Blurry on the edges, sharp in the middle.
It’s not as good but it’s what most headsets have the option for since eye tracking isn’t very common yet.

  • I have a gaming laptop (mobile 4090) with a USB-C PD display port, so it provides power, bandwidth for Display, and more than enough power. Would I still need the adapter?

  • I wish to see how Sony is promoting this as a competitor to other PCVR options out there. So far it just looks like any other product.

Sony also needs to step it up with product support. Where is Astrobot, Wipeout, and other Sony supported games.

  • I can’t wait to play Half life alyx with this. The FOV, along with the oled screen is going to make that game look and feel better than ever

  • Awesome! Can’t wait

  • Mate, I thought it was going to be free, like the PS VR1 adaptor for PS5, and that this adaptor was going to be included in the new PS VR2 boxes later this year (just like PS VR1’s adaptor for PS5 was). £50 for a cable where more than half of the features of interest are unsupported is absolutely hilarious.

  • Why would I want to buy an adapter to use an inferior headset for pcvr? Yes, this headset without any of its features is mediocre at best. No purchase for me.

  • Looking forward to playing ALYX finally! Already have PSVR2. HYYYYPED!

  • Just need to start using hall-effect design/technology and drift can be eliminated. There is a rumor that Flydigi is going to collaborate with Sony soon. The word came from one of the engineers in the flydigi community tester group. He also said that their Apex 3 controller will receive a testing firmware update to support PS5 protocol in July this year.

  • With this and the Days of Play discount, you’ve got me now, Sony.

  • i love you sony

  • Why is eye tracking not available? Is this something we can expect in a future update? That is a huge omission.

  • One small step for man, one giant leap for Sony.

  • I appreciate Sony’s efforts. However, I don’t understand why features like eye tracking don’t work on PC. Will future software updates make this possible?

  • now we need Steam Deck support and the PSVR2 will actually be very useful.
Even when the SD is docked it’ll still be really good, doesn’t have to be in handheld mode all the time.
So how long until someone who knows what they are doing makes a linux port?

  • Played the crap out of Beat Saber (got both platinum for PS4 and PS5, most notably after getting the one for playing the game for 24 hours.). But the song DLC’s can sometimes be a little underwhelming. I’d like to try the custom tracks on the PC version.

  • stage300handsome

Where is the games though? I bought the first VR and have like 10 games I liked. I wont waste money on this unless it gets games coming to it, and more than one first party and done.

  • Excellent! I have already a RTX 2070 with VirtualLink-port. Is there any release date for the PlayStation VR2 App on Steam?

  • I wish Half Life Alyx found a way to PS5 PSVR2… Wishes wishes

  • Awesome!

  • This is amazing. Congratulations Sony! 👏💖🎉

  • We really need more PSVR games on PSVR2. It would not cost much to port them and would really make the PSVR2 owner happy given the investment in the headset, Star Wars Squadrons, Blodd and Truth, Astrobot, Wipeout, and many more. Come on PlayStation can you please care about those of us that bought PSVR2?

  • Okay but where is the VR support for media?

  • Great news compared to no support, but this adapter should come with Bluetooth built-in, especially with that note:
** Some Bluetooth adapters may not work due to Bluetooth adapter compatibility

  • I’m excited they announced this. I just got a new gaving pc, and didn’t want to spend another chunk of change to get a pc vr set since I already own psvr2. $60 is way easier to fork out over another $500. I appreciate them doing this. The one missing feature that confuses me the most is hdr. I get the other features unless the devs implement, but the hdr seems like it doesn’t require too much effort. Who knows though, I’m just glad it’s happening with an actual date of release.

  • Thats is very cool for people with high performance pcs… sad for is ps5 users most likely left behind.

  • If I have a RTX card with USB-C or a new AMD Radeon card with USB-C, will I need to buy the adapter?

  • doktormoroklebos

Will it be possible to connect the PSVR2 directly to the USB-C port of the graphics card (e.g. an AMD Radeon 6800xt/6900XT/7900GRE/7900XT) if the graphics card has a USB-C port? So you don’t need the adapter?

If eye-tracking, HDR etc were available that would have been cool, but it’s great that we have the ability to experience games on PC with the PSVR2

  • My gaming laptop is more than capable for VR, but lacks a dedicated DisplayPort, it just has thunderbolt. Can I still use this if I use a separate thunderbolt to DisplayPort adapter?

  • Whilst new accessories are being created for PSVR2 for the benefit of the PC audience, any chance of being able to buy the VR Sense controllers as separates?

When mine break (which they will down the line from stick drift) I won’t have a fully usable headset anymore.

  • Will my gtx 970 be enough?

  • This is great and all but Astrobot should have a VR mode at the very least. This is essentially Rescue Mission 2 and a MASSIVE missed opportunity and slap in the face to those who’ve invested on the new headset on the back of PSVR1 games such as the original astro rescue mission. Come on Sony what the heck.

We still need flagship games like Astro to show off how epic the PSVR2 is on PS5.

  • Sony does not give a darn abput their own customers.
