  • We need a new PS+ tier that only includes online play and cloud saves without the free games. Otherwise, when my PS+ subscription lapses in 2024 my PS5 will be a single player only machine. $80 is insane just to play games online.

    • Great! Bye

    • You get free online and free cloud saves without any subscription…… on XBOX

    • You don’t get online multiplayer for free on Xbox unless its a F2P game, buddy

    • Yes, I just noticed that it is only some games. I havent used my xbox in years. I didn’t see an option to edit my post. Cloud saves still seem to be correct and the fact that WE can’t save PS5 games to USB is also a bad part of it if we want to cancel our PS plus altogether.

    • TOTALLY AGREED. The “FREEBIES” are OCCASIONALLY GOOD. It would be nice if there really was a PS+ tier for online play and cloud saves.

  • SONY what have you been smoking?

  • Massive L.
Weak lineup paired with an exorbitant price increase. Cancelling, as a long time subscriber.

  • No way in hell is that price increase justified just because you’re putting out a $60 valued game that’s been less than $20 since it’s launch week. No way in hell is Essential worth $80 a year compared to the $60 price and discounts it gets from time to time. I mean you get a lot of value out of Extra but not so much Premium. I think it’s fine at the current price point. Can’t believe you did that as $120 was already asking a lot for …. not that much.

  • Guess I’ll be buying a year of Extra before the price hike. This is so stupid. The ONLY way they can get away with this is if they are adding PS3 emulation. But that’s the definition of copium at this point.

  • At least better games? $160 for 12 months?

  • Is this some kinda of joke?
    price increasing out of nowhere?

  • „For the players“, right? Combining a wildly disappointing lineup of games in September with an absolutely brazen price hike is certainly a move reeking of sheer arrogance and hubris! As others have stated before, paying 80 $ a year for the privilige of playing online (and a bunch of leased leftover games of dubious quality) is an absolute travesty a lot of current subscribers certainly won’t play along with. I know I won’t.

  • Y’all crazy with this price raise. What are the first PS studios working on? Where are the games? I will not be renewing my subscription. No thanks, PlayStation.

  • Sorry but these price increases are a bad call Sony. The current price is ok for the current content and unless your going to be adding all first party titles old and all future releases day 1. It doesn’t seem to be worth it.

  • Whelp, guess I’m dropping down to Essential from Premium. Thanks for providing me with motivation to cut down on expenses and save money Playstation!

  • Sorry Sony, but I’m not sure I want to renew. My Premium sub is up in January and it’s already $139.99 a year here in Canada. What will it go up to? $179.99? No thanks.

  • Glad I got Premium when I did for $120. Man all these subscriptions increasing prices while adding no real additional value. Sony’s has a year to convince me worth the extra $40. Even essentials at $80 is hard going to be a hard buy. Btw Sony not a good time to announce a price increase and this is the lineup you give us.

  • Price increase? From next year I can say goodbye to PS Plus 😭😭

  • Let us play our entire digital playstation library on ps4 and ps5.

  • Absolute scummy move. I don’t have the extra tiers after over a year, still see NO REASON to bother with it and now you increase the price??? You are so tone deaf this generation. Just SHUT this blog down already. You never listen to anything we have to say.

  • Nice, We’ve got a crap games like a Fifa, NBA with the poor online support and a lot of in-app pucharses and now? Let’s go increase a price before!

  • Sony better have something up their sleeves like more day one releases or new PS2 games in their new PS2 emulator for the PS5.

  • Price increase and another terrible month of games. Sony what are you doing ? Do you not see what xbox is doing right now ?

Where are the PS5 games ? When is the next State of play ? We don’t need a state of play for spiderman2 gameplay just upload it to youtube.
When is the next real state of play regarding new ps5 exclusives ? What games are you working on ? 2 superhero games ? Is that it ?

I own a ps2 , psp , ps3 , ps4 , ps5. Bought a ps3 first month they came out at that crazy high price when they launched and have never owned an xbox and never had a reason to own an xbox ……. Until now.

My Extra subscription ends in september and I will not be renewing until its worth my money.

PS3 Gen still the best. Great exclusives. Free to play online. Miss those days. Ps3 ui > ps4 ui & ps5 ui.

    • It’s crazy how me and a ton of other people have been going back to PS3 to trophy hunt in MP games and like, damn it’s just so much fun and accessible? Times have changed.

There’s so much potential to be tapped in that area for current gen and PS3 still isn’t able to be emulated as well. The ball is in Sony’s court.

  • Every month very weak games and they still want to increase the price of subscriptions, honestly I just continue with the ps plus extra because there are many games in the catalog that I still want to play, because his recent additions are also very weak, not to mention that here in Brazil they don’t have ps plus premium, so the catalog of classics is dark, what does it cost to add really classic PS2 games, like God of war 1 and 2? or the 2 PSP games in the series? since the classic catalog should be PS1, PS2 and PSP games, but PS2 comes with almost nothing, and they still want to raise prices? I don’t know how it will come here to Brazil, but if the monthly additions don’t improve, especially the classic games, there will be a loss with the cancellation/downgrade of subscriptions.

  • “This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.”

Like Saints Row which is sitting at a 61 on MC and Generation Zero which is sitting at a 50 on MC? How about that PS2 emulator which is broken on PS5? Can’t make this up lmao.

  • Wow, the Sony top hats are insane, huh? No way I’m paying $80 for Essential. I wasn’t even paying $60 to begin with! I only ever buy a sub when there’s a sale, so I’ll be on the lookout for those should I ever consider renewing my sub again.

Not a good look, Sony. Not a good look.

  • undid the ps2 emu so we don’t get ps2 in the legacy anymore, ps3 emu, oh i mean stream is ass… since the start of legacy they have not given to even match the price of premium.. xbox has price increase and look who follows…. smh remember when playstation didn’t charge for online.. another follow of xbox live…

  • Biggest L ever.
I don’t think I’ll buy the PS Plus anymore

  • Apparently they are trying to get rid of their middle age subscribers with families to support. That’s a very substantial price hike.

  • Feel genuinely sorry for folks with only essential sub looking out for games each month and they get this with a price increase.

  • Well done, announce a price increase and then give us low quality titles. I will not be renewing after my current subscription expires. What a joke.

  • Seriously, who the hell asked for Saints Row?! That game is universally terrible, no one wants it and wants to forget it existed!

Also, the fact that you guys announce the price increase in such a short amount of time, you knew you will get this backlash and you still did it anyways! That’s really scummy on you guys!

  • I rarely subscribe to PS+; only when there’s a good deal, because I don’t play online and I don’t care much for the monthly games. Now with this price increase I will likely never subscribe again. The only benefit I care about is cloud save backup. I didn’t care on PS4 because I could back them up to an external drive, but on PS5 this isn’t possible. The only options are full system backup and restore or PS+ cloud backup.

Sony, please add the ability to backup individual save files to an external drive on PS5. Securing our saves that we have invested much time in is not something that should be locked behind a paywall. On Xbox they offer cloud backup to all users, even without a subscription. The least you can do is allow users to make manual local backups. This isn’t a feature I would pay $80/year for. I would just switch to another platform instead, which would be sad after 28 years playing on PlayStation.

    • I agree with you 100% the one thing I just wanted to say, and I know who’s looking to make anything better but you can use a USB drive to back up your game please, since you won’t be using the cloud, I suggest downloading all of your game plays now on USB and just keep downloading them until your service runs out. That’s what I’m gonna do I’m dropping my extra I’ve been with City since 2003 and Heather Service this is just wrong what they’re doing, I was short notification on top of it. I can guarantee you there will be civil actions taken in court against them and they will be scrutinized very close. I think what they’re doing is trying to show the court system that they were correct that they were going to get hurt , but the thing of it is they didn’t get hurt it’s the players is us it’s the consumer that got hurt and I’ve had enough of this. My subscription for extra expires December 3 now I have an option to buy an extra month at $99 now until next year to see what they’re going to do and then cancel or stick with everyone else in a massive “ play station plus money grab is a no go”. I’m going to give it a few days to see if Sony responds. I’ve already read the response they put it was in adequate and completely out of touch so let’s see what excuses they come up with if they do before September 6, hits us and some of us decide whether or not to drop PlayStation + completely.
The only way to show them that it will not be excepted is to cancel subscriptions, and that’s up to each individual to decide to cancel or keep going for one more year and see if Sony increases the quality of Games The giving out and I’m speaking about the extra tier for me personally, but I’m upset that the essentials got raise is hot as it is just for people to play online and the essentials is astronomical for the prices that they’re asking for for the garbage that they’re putting out, and as I said each individual should make that determination on whether or not, they’re going to drop PlayStation+ and I have a real gut feeling that there are going to be multitudes of people unsubscribing from plus and I don’t blame them at all, now it’s up to Sony to show us what they have to offer this supposed to be so great that was put in the post about why they did this which didn’t even give us a real true answer. It was a bunch of lawyer garbage, and I know that for a fact, it wouldn’t of been written up the way it was basically trying to say some thing, but not saying anything it is perfect lawyer to client protection, so they don’t get sued, but I guarantee they are going to get sued for this people are upset, if you read in their manual it states and I’m just going by memory so it’s not exactly but it goes something like this.
(Sony will give six months notice before a price increase happens to our customers, and then it goes forward with other information that I can’t remember) but in conclusion
along with that they went and broke that promise only giving one month and no viable reason how ridiculous right.
Take care of my friend. It’s all those gamers out there. We know what we need to do.

    • Sorry for my mistakes in this reply I was dictating and I didn’t read it over. I do apologize about that. Extremely sorry!!!

    • You can back up on external. USB thumb drive. Backed up all mine and re loaded them on the system. Been around for ages

  • I wasn’t even happy with paying $60 before. $80 is definitely beyond the breaking point. Regardless of what Im getting I don’t want to pay $80 🫡

  • I don’t usually visit the blog often but….. oh my sweet lord! You have got to be kidding with this tripe! After I resubbed with you monthly again, you go back to having low-rate trash on your Essential tier.

Not only you raised your prices for PS+. (£120!? What!?) You offered three garbage games that are garnered with bad reviews all around.

Also, Generation Zero? Really guys!? Do you realise that this pile of garbage recivived horrible reviews, has boring gameplay, glitches galore and not to mention requires the player to sign up for a another account just to play it. Please replace Generation Zero with something decent that’s worth playing. What about one of your 1st-party titles? You did it with PES 2019 by replacing it with Detroit: Become Human back in July 2019. Sorry, I refuse to play broken messes this month.

  • I just want to play online games. Plus has always been a scam that I only grudgingly paid for, but this is just insulting.

I will not pay for this service at these prices, and will no longer buy or play multiplayer games on playstation.

  • Disappointed to say the least, with the planned price increases to the PS+ tiers. Currently on PS extra but when my subscription lapses in 2024, I will not be renewing my subscription. What value is the increased pricing bringing to the consumer?

  • Will let my sub lapse when it ends.

Massive price increase + no added value to the service = easy cancellation.

PlayStation is just pushing me to use PC as my primary platform.

    • I started switching to mainly PC when $70 games started. Now with this I don’t see a reason to keep using my PS5.

  • You can’t be serious with that massive price increase? Unless you’re putting first party games on there day one why would it be such a huge increase. Been a ps+ customer since day one. This is just ridiculous. Just gave Xbox a massive W without them lifting a finger.

  • How can you justify the price increase? Sony have already said multiple times that they won’t be offering first party new releases on this service so what does the increase bring? More old games nobody wanted to play the first time around? Microsoft jacked their prices up but they’re getting Starfield on day 1. I think more details need to be released about the increase and what users will get if they pay it. I turned off auto-renewal before this announcement and I clearly made the right call.

  • Sony is this a joke? Xbox is releasing Starfield tomorrow and you counter that by raising subscription prices by ~33%?!? I paid $90 for 1 year of premium and that’s all it’s worth…now you want to charge $80 just to play online and access cloud saves? This new Ryan/Hulst Sony is so tone deaf. I definitely won’t be renewing my subscription next year, even at a discounted rate.

  • If you want to increase the price in such a way, you need to improve a lot of things first.

    – Increase the number of PS1, PS2, PSP and PS Vita titles by far, and improve their emulation because for the moment it is not up to what subscribers deserve.

    – Make a real effort to create a native PS3 emulator and revive servers for games that take up online features.

    – Make improvements to video games from the PS4 catalog, it is incomprehensible that hackers have a better experience playing Gravity Rush 2, Bloodborne, The Order 1886 and Red Dead Redeption 2 than the people who pay for your service.

    – If your strategy is going to be to launch service-type video games, I hope that for subscribers these are free or at least their battle passes and excuse me, but I can’t believe that you are the owners of Bungie and that all the content is not included in your premium subscription.

Excuse me, I’m a big fan of yours, but this is not the way to do things.

  • This is becoming the worst deal in gaming. 35% price increase for Extra? Are you kidding me?

  • Well I’m cancelling my plus. It was barely worth 60 now at 80 its crap.

  • This is egregious. It’s like Sony’s servers are under too much stress, and they brainstormed the quickest way to cut down on users. PlayStation should be head and shoulders above Xbox when you look at sales and titles, yet their company management has the foresight of a wooden spoon. Your pricing against Xbox’s service was a huge win, but that just went down the drain. People around the world are already struggling to stretch their dollar as far as they can right now, and Sony/Microsoft decides $160 is a reasonable price to pay for a years worth of online service. This is borderline criminal.

Congratulations, Sony. You just [DELETED] off 90% of your user base in one fell swoop, and gave up your biggest advantage over Microsoft. At least I can play 360 titles natively.

  • Hilarious to present us with three mediocre-to-bad games to show us why it’s actually fair to jack up the price of PS+ by a third. I just turned off my auto renew. Paying for online play is a scam in the first place.

  • Raising the price would only make sense to the loyal fans that bring you in billions per quarter, if you actually acquired a major publisher that has beloved legacy IP. Square Enix or Capcom has IP that your current studios will never be able to match.

No more “third party deals.” We all see right through it. Bring us some quality IP like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts in-house to make this pricing worthwhile.

Also where is PS Home 2?

  • Announcing a price increase(again) with a trash line-up is not the best thing to do,Sony. At least make the subscription worth the price increase,or else more and more people will not be renewing. Most of us bought extra with 25% discount,so a big no for me,Jim Ryan is dangerous.

  • Been a PS+ subscriber since day 1, never let it lapse… I just cancelled my Premium subscription and won’t be renewing, not even at the base level

  • This is a perfect illustration on why competition is good and lack of it isn’t. Last year Sony removed the codes and physical cards so you couldn’t buy subs from third parties anymore. And this year a massive increase in the price, while holding cloud saves hostage. Massively consumer unfriendly, a bad move overall. Nothing you will add will justify this. I would say more, but my full thoughts would be “unkind” language.

  • 40 dollar increase on the tier I’m on. That’s insane.
Sorry Sony but I’m gonna have to cancel, this is completely tone deaf.

  • What happened? Not enough people signing up for Extra and Premium, so you decided to increase Essential to get closer to that? The price I already couldn’t afford due to a tight budget? In a time where essential items like food are at an all-time high, you jack up the price by $20 and expect people to choose that over food? Did the executives need so many millions of dollars in bonuses that you couldn’t help people afford your subscription service? Did all the other tech companies increasing prices and laying off employees in the name of “inflation” (i.e. “We weren’t making as much profit as we were during the pandemic”), make you feel like you could do the same? And tell us this on a day where you announce the worst Essential lineup ever, and a day where you start a sale with prices dropping on the exact same games for the same price they were a couple of months ago? This is how you treat loyal customers that have been with you since the first PlayStation console was released? Who has been signed up for Plus from day one, and never let it lapse?

I don’t encourage harassment, but I hope the backlash to this announcement is as swift and loud as the PS Vita and PS3 store closures, and it gets reversed within a week.

  • Congrats, you got me to log in. This price increase is actual [DELETED]. And a pretty bad lineup too.

  • $20 increase for Essential??? Guess I’m dropping Plus when I expire.

    • It’s ridiculous price increase, wish they offered a cheaper version just for cloud saves and online multiplayer without the 3 free games offering.
