Introducing the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the ultra-customizable controller for PlayStation 5

First look at the DualSense Edge wireless controller with customizable controls, changeable stick caps, back buttons, and more.

Today, we are thrilled to unveil the DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5, the first-ever high-performance, ultra-customizable controller developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Designed to give you an edge in gameplay by allowing you to create custom controls, the DualSense Edge wireless controller invites you to craft your own unique gaming experience tailored to your playstyle.

Introducing the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the ultra-customizable controller for PlayStation 5

The DualSense Edge wireless controller features a number of hardware and software-based customization options for creating a completely personalized controller experience, including:

●       Ultra-customizable controls: You can make the DualSense Edge wireless controller uniquely yours by remapping or deactivating specific button inputs and fine-tuning your aim by adjusting stick sensitivity and dead zones (the distance your analog stick moves before it’s recognized in a game). In addition, each trigger is adjustable with options to tailor travel distance and dead zones to your preference. For example, you can manually reduce travel distance of the triggers for faster inputs in competitive FPS games or reduce the dead zone for precise throttle control in racing games.

●       Ability to save multiple control profiles: Once you’ve found your ideal control settings, you can save them to unique profiles and swap between them on the fly. With the DualSense Edge wireless controller, you’ll always have your preferred controls for your games ready to go, whether you’re facing Norse gods and monsters in God of War Ragnarök, or rival players in an online battle royale.

●       On-controller user interface: The dedicated Fn button allows you to easily adjust your setup while staying focused on the in-game action – quickly swap between your pre-set control profiles, adjust game volume and chat balance, and access the controller profile settings menu to set up and test new control iterations while in game.

●       Changeable stick caps and back buttons: Three types of swappable stick caps (standard, high dome, and low dome) help you stay comfortable in game while maintaining grip and stability. The two swappable sets of back buttons (half-dome and lever) can be configured to be any other button input, putting more essential controls at your fingertips.

●       Replaceable stick modules: Play longer with the ability to fully replace each individual stick module on the controller (replacement stick modules will be sold separately).

●       Built-in DualSense wireless controller features: The DualSense Edge wireless controller retains the signature comfort and immersive experience of the DualSense wireless controller when playing supported games, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone, motion controls, and more.

In addition to the included stick caps and back button sets, the DualSense Edge wireless controller comes with a USB Type-C braided cable, which uses a connector housing to lock into the controller so it’s much less likely to slip out at a crucial moment. The included carrying case, which keeps your DualSense Edge wireless controller and components together and organized in one place, allows you to charge the controller via USB connection while it’s stored in the case.

Daisuke Kurihara, Art Director, led the controller’s design process and shares a few insights on how it was created:

“The opportunity to create the DualSense Edge wireless controller was a dream come true for our team. We wanted to build on the legacy of iconic PlayStation controllers by creating a controller that empowers players to experiment and personalize elements based on their own unique playstyle – whether they are a competitive gamer or someone who just enjoys having more options to customize their play. The DualSense Edge wireless controller also features a number of thoughtful design touches that we hope players will enjoy, including a distinct DualSense controller-inspired black-and-white color scheme and a unique PlayStation Shapes pattern on the touch pad and trigger surfaces.

“We are thankful to the many gamers, professional esports players, and developers who helped provide feedback on the controller’s design.”

Daisuke Kurihara, Art Director

In the months ahead, we look forward to sharing more details about the DualSense Edge wireless controller, including launch timing, and can’t wait to see how the PS5 community unlocks the full potential of the controller’s customization options.

  • What the price

  • This is amazing news and can’t wait to see the sticker price on this one in comparison to the Scuff controllers leading this market now. Definitely grabbing one when they drop though!

  • This should have been included with the PS5 launch. It’s about time there was a competitor to the Xbox Elite controllers. However, I doubt this will feel and operate as comfortably as an Xbox Elite 2 controller. The design is hard to beat or match. I sincerely hope this new controller will make me want to use it for both my PS5 and my PC gaming instead of the Elite 2. It will need to be very impressive to make me want to switch on PC though. I wish Sony good luck with that. And even if it doesn’t succeed, please don’t give up and try again. I want you to be successful.

  • might buy this controller!

  • People talk, but this control is for gamer not for dust PS5

  • I have questions about tsushima!

  • Is this their answer to all the complaints about controller being too big? Or is that seperate and also coming? Cause from the look of it, it just as big if not bigger than current one people said was too big to properly fit in child size hands.

    • With the extra stuff on the edge I expect it to be larger than the original dual sense and heavier because it’s made of better parts more metal sticks vs cheaper plastic sticks

And by that I mean the outside analog sticks are plastic and the interior is stainless steel or carbon fiber something much higher end than mass production can provide

Sony could even sell upgraded stick modules for extra money depending on how much customization options are available

  • I guess I;m the only one that doesn’t care about the lack of paddles. Does it come with a turbo feature for buttons and a larger battery?

  • Something Sony should address is if you’re playing with custom controls currently on a regular dual sense playing last of us part 1 then you decide to play pac man you must dig into the accessibility and find custom button mapping to turn it on/ off

On the ps4 you just paused and accessibility was button mapping on or off

While you unfortunately have to dig to the menu you need I’d rather have the mapping option as the top priority

It’d also be nice if you could have exceptions to your custom controls like 95% I’m using my own custom southpaw
Controls and if old arcade games or single analog stick games were put in the exempted section I would not have to turn off my custom controls while playing indy, older arcade games or those single analog games because it’s when I have dual analog I need my own custom controls

  • Something I found unacceptable as a southpaw is not being able to rearrange share and options which feels pigeonholed next to the action buttons so you should be able to swap options for share and then share would be next to the action buttons while options would be better off next to your dpad

    • Good suggestion. Also forgot to mention something similar in my own comment Please give us the option to simply apply another function (like opening Trophy section) to the Share button, as it’s completely useless to me in its current function and an extra button could always be handy. Though I’m in no need for back buttons :)

  • Have you done anything to fix stick drift which has plagued your PS4 and onward controllers? Electromagnetic thiumbstick are immune and used on literally every RC aircraft/drone controllers.

I’d happily pay and extra 5 bucks to get better sensors in the thumb sticks

    • Not sure why they use the cheapest sticks in game controllers. My RC radio uses top of the line hall effect sensors in the sticks. The PS5 sticks have no precision what so ever. They go from 0 to 100% with nothing in-between. Just awful.

  • Sony’s rip off controller is going to cost a fortune along with their rip off PS5 price increase.
    I’m finished with Sony.

  • Been waiting for this for so long…. I need back paddles at this point, the exchangable sticks are a huge plus

  • What is so great about Sony in this gen is that they blew the rival’s controller out of the water by
giving us gamers a more advanced joypad in DualSense. Now with DualSense Edge, finally PS5’s
controller is first party and lot of innovation me hopes will follow

  • When?!? Where? Need it now! This is AWESOME!

  • I’m just glad this isn’t the standard model and it’s optional, back buttons look very uncomfortable in general and would’ve been a deal breaker in line of my favorite controllers.
I would love a model that’s simply smaller and less heavy, or closer to DS3 with shorter handles and the face buttons closer together. I would also love an option to revert the triggers to normal shoulder buttons, never particularly liked the slower-feeling triggers. In some games I can get the full input by only pushing it slightly, but in a game where you have to hold it down for longer periods I tend to wish for a simple shoulder button or for the triggers to apply full pressure at all times. I noticed that, for me, in GT7 the triggers feels slightly less comfortable to hold down than they did in GT Sport with the DS4 triggers. Not sure if they pull back more or if it’s the shape of the controller or whatever, but in any case, I’d love an option to revert triggers to regular buttons, or the effect thereof. :)

    • And about the triggers, you could suggest switching the functions with the R1/L1 buttons and use those as your primary shoulder buttons, but I don’t really like their position on the DS4 and DS(5), they have clearly been degraded to the ‘secondary shoulder buttons’, which are great for small things like throwing grenades etc., but not to use primarily imo. Just by the lay of your hands, the triggers definitely feel like the natural position, I just wish they weren’t triggers :p

  • default controller.should’ve had some these features

  • It’s price will be around $200…. Could you jsut relelase a back button attachment for dualsense please?! Thanks!

  • I don’t care 😅

  • I can’t wait to try this out. 😍

  • Sony/Playstation should consider the coming release of games such as Street Fighter 6, possibly Tekken 8, possibly Dragon Ball Fighterz 2, the next Netherrealm game, Project L, and other fighting games. There is a new golden age for the FGC on PlayStation and beyond and these games will require precise movement inputs. A high quality D-Pad with separate directional inputs will be in demand for the this growing playerbase. Guilty Gear Strive and Multi-Versus are very popular fighting games that released on the Ps5. Mortal Kombat 11 and Dragon Ball Fighterz are still enjoyed by many players on the Ps5 right now, though they were first released on the Ps4. Those playerbases would love to have that custom upgrade for their controllers. Professional players would love this upgrade too, just ask Sonicfox. They is the best Mortal Kombat player in the world and they plays with a custom D-Pad. An uncomfortable and thumb-breaking D-Pad made as one button is imprecise and outdated for the Dualsense controller. With so much demand, it would be foolish not to supply and profit. Fighting Games are not the only games where the player’s experience would be enhanced either. The best example I can give are Metroidvanias. Hollow Knight’s gameplay would be better enjoyed playing with a separated D-Pad. Hollow Knight: Silksong and Crowsworn are games soon to release with large playerbases that would also benefit. Finally, a better D-Pad with separated directional inputs would offer more accessibility for disabled players. Offering such an upgrade for the Dualsense Pro would be a win for everyone. Please consider producing this product. Thank you.

  • im not buying this because im a wanna be Esports player, i will buy this just for the exchangeable sticks….. the DualSense i have bought get drift faster and faster everytime…

  • Well if Sony fumbled it by only offering 2 paddles rather then the expected 4 those demanding F-o-u-R extra buttons will have to look elsewhere

Still it’s hard to believe Sony would not offer the full compliment of extra buttons

If it’s only a 2 extra buttons that’s a pretty dull edge indeed

  • I like the name

  • Hopefully these will be more robust than the originals!? Offer me an upgrade exchange please Sony.

  • I’ve wanted this for so long! I can’t wait

  • Why release new controller now and its just copy paste from MS playbook. Sony stop doing dumb stuff please and give us back our love for you.

  • Will there be other colors?

  • What’s the price range going to be on this new edge controller

  • Can the back paddles be removed?

  • So…
How much do I have to pay to make it so my controller doesn’t automatically turn on the microphone as a default?

  • This should be the controller that comes with the console now since they increased the MSRP. Just saying.

  • I like the ides of an elite controller for the PS5 but this is one of the stupidest decisions sony has ever made . They could have introduced backbuttons on the PS5 controllers and then this controller would have made sense, Instead they went cheap and released the controllers without them and Now they release an elite controller with backbuttons which won’t be utilized by any company.

    I’ll pass

  • I need price to be right before I’d buy this.

  • Did you fix the drifting issue?

    • That’s just it…..no they haven’t,nor will they. Panasonic crooks won’t get a dollar more from me…. Can’t find a decent repair spot to get the issue fixed either.

  • Release date!!!

  • Please offer a tactile D-Pad with separate buttons (4 separate directional buttons) instead of the one big, plastic D-Pad that bruises thumbs and ruins inputs at high gameplay levels.

  • I’m a playstation fan… how would this new dualsense edge be compared to the loved astro c40 tr controller?

Coming from my preferred place I have always used my c40 tr controller instead of the dualshocks. So what I am asking is, is it going to be similar to the c40 or will there be a c40 made for the playstation 5?

  • If this controller can make it through an entire play through of Spider-Man and not start drifting shortly thereafter, I’ll pick one up. Plain and simple, that’s my litmus test since. If you’ve played the game it’s easy to know why that’s the game that I use to test the viability of a the controllers stick. First play through of Spider Man (just under 100% completion so heavy use,) on a brand new controller and it began drifting after about 15 hours into the next game. I was lucky enough to get a PS5 this year without succumbing to having to buy it from a scalper (a result from one of the worst console rollouts a gamer has ever seen) and went straight to a full play through of Miles Morales and…yep, the controller that came with it began to drift 15-20 hours into the next game I started (Horizon Forbidden West). That controller wasn’t even a month old when that started…and forget about that being covered/replaced after having just purchased the console. It’s pretty clear that the stick replacement option on this controller (which is an additional cost) is their response to a problem they’re well aware of. I absolutely love PlayStation despite their weak/uncontrolled rollout of the PS5, accompanied by a roll of the dice that determines whether the controller that comes with it will make it past 2-3 games (not to mention jumping on the inflation bandwagon as an excuse to bump up the price of the console nearly 30%, which their competition did not follow suit)…but if you’re going to have a rollout and then raise the price for those who are already having a hard enough time getting their hands on the console; then at least figure out a way to keep controller’s less than 6 months old from drifting. Selling us on a controller where we can purchase our own replacement parts basically says…we don’t stand behind our own product. It’s becoming old and more and more transparent to the consumer.

  • I’m excited to finally get a controller like this from PlayStation. If it’s around $150 I’m buying this day one.

  • Thank You!!! Wish we had this many years ago but better late than never.

  • Been looking forward to a Sony “Pro” controller for 5 years but it looks like I’ll be passing on the Edge since it only has two rear paddles.I primarily use a “pro” controller for online competitive first person shooters so,I prefer 4 paddles so I can program 2 paddles for d-pad functions(usually gadgets)and of the other 2 paddles I use one for switching from a primary weapon to a sidearm and the other one for either jump or kneel/slide/prone.
Also not sure what advantage there is for having the two buttons below the analog sticks that are apparently used as a alternative for clicking down on L3/R3…I mean the biggest draw/advantage for using a “pro”controller is NOT having to move your thumbs away from the sticks!
Really hoping Sony makes these changes before actual release of the Edge…if not,Hard Pass for me!

  • Wow, this is by far now the best controller in the industry. I already love the OG dualsense! You need to make them backwards compatible with ps4 (even if you loose the active triggers) because my son’s want this so bad on their ps4s!

  • Right…….and then it starts to drift after 5 months like the last 3 I’ve bought…….no thanks 👎🏾

  • Nice to see. I hope the battery life is back to that of the ps4 controllers. The standard ps5 controller battery life is woeful.

  • When will it be released? I can’t wait to purchase I’m very excited

  • I don’t use that controller cause i don’t play online games

  • Shame you think putting a mic in the controller is something people want. I’ve had every PlayStation but I’ve moved to xbox because I’m not gaming on a system that’s always listening to me. Make a controller with no in built mic and I’ll buy a ps5 but until then I’m not interested

  • I can’t wait for this! When is the release day & what’s the price point! I need 2!

  • Really hoping Sony gives us a date to pre-order, wanna be first in line 🙏🏾.
