The fact that the Collector’s and Jötnar Editions come with steelbook cases but no actual discs to put in is hilarious; they expect us to buy a physical copy of the game just to use the steelbook? Ridiculous. Also, why no price? Thor’s hammer looks awesome though.

    • You could also just buy the collectors edition when it comes out and then wait a year and buy the standard edition to get the disc when it’s on sale for $10-$20, like all first party titles end up doing.

    • I was about to write about no disc in collector’s edition but while writing i thought it is not feasible to do so because the game is cross gen. I request Playstation to add disc to collector’s edition when they release native PS5 games. Thank you

    • The Jötnar Edition is $259 USD.

  • Laughing at all the incorrect comments. There would be no need for four editions if a disc were included. You get both PS4 and PS5 versions via digital code. It’s cheaper than putting both disc versions in those.

People that own the PS5 digital edition have no use for a disc. Now this is where the four different editions would apply.

Back to your non-sensical **** and moaning!

  • Very disappointed that there are no collectors editions that include physical copies.

  • Stupid is as stupid does.

  • Is 10 am local time for all markets except the U.S… correct? Or which specific markets do you mean?

  • Sony didn’t learn with Horizon that empty Steelbook are dumb AF? There’s still horizon collectors editions available for that very reason. I don’t even see the reasoning considering you still need to pay a dumb upgrade fee for the PS4 disc, so what gives? Sony the new EA

  • The reason why there’s no physical game is so they don’t have to make 2 different versions of the CE. A PS4 version and a PS5 version. Not saying it’s right or wrong but once cross gen it’s done this shouldn’t be a problem anymore

    • Understood, but if the reason Sony wants to make the game multigenerational is to capitalize on both the PS4, and the PS5 consumers, then they need to be prepared to support them both too. In my opinion, this supports neither, properly, and the sales of these editions will likely reflect that, as it did for Horizon.

    • Or, they could make two different categories for the CEs. One for PS5, and One for PS4. I mean, its not like Sony is making millions of them, So they could’ve accepted the cost of making two discs for two different consoles imo.

    • The amount of people this actually impacts is negligible. That’s why they do it.

  • Nope, standard for me. Sorry PlayStation, after the Horizon CE and no disc, I’m simply done with this nonsense. Why ruin what should be, and would have been 5 years ago, a momentous announcement. You have no idea what your fans want anymore. Thank goodness you still have some excellent studios making us great games though.

  • Another Collector’s Edition that gets a pass because of no Game Disk for the Empty Steelbook so pointless. With every new Collector’s Edition I start to care less about what Sony is doing on that front. Its a shame I have gotten all of them since the PS3 days.

  • No physical game?

    What the actual ****.

  • Hey save me a pre-order for the collectors edition hats $10 less cause I will mail you back the steel book because it’s pointless. I just want the hammer and a disc because I need physical things to put in my sarcophagus when I die

  • I’m not worried about a disc… WILL THERE BE A SPECIAL EDITION PS5?

    • Well then your stupid. The whole purpose of a collectors edition is to have EVERTHING included, DUH🙄

    • Seriously, you’d think that they would have tied in special/collector edition faceplates & controllers for their AAA games, Sony’s lost all logic in their marketing.

  • Here’s a thought: 3 consoles, ps4, PS5 disc, Ps5 digital… why is there not a disk version of these more than likely very expensive collector’s editions… 3 consoles, a digital and disk version for each

  • Wait, a disc-less Collector Edition? What kind of a joke is that?

    • Well it’s Sony playing corparate games with us all again. Testing there little plastic yellow ducks in the waters.

Sony: ” How much more money can we swindle from the public, by taking something else away ” 🤔

This is abit like console features again from the PS3 days. Sony advertise the features, then take them away, like they did with Linux. They never liked people taking control of the system😱😱😱

  • Hahaha, that’s a no-preorder from me. It’s like buying a car and when you open the hood there’s only a drawing of an engine there. Buy PHYSICAL collector’s edition to not get a physical game?! No thanks, I’ll just get the game when it’s price drops 50% 2 months later then.
I get more and more disgusted with sony every release.

  • Hopefully all these nerds “passing” on the collectors edition because there is no physical disc will make it easier for me to get one, hehe.

  • No physical disc included in the collector’s edition?!?!

    Whaaat?!
    No kidding???

    🤢 … 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

    • It’s all about Corparate Greed. Best to Boycott the Collectors Edition and give Sony the middle finger.

  • I have to agree with everyone that not putting a physical disc in a collectors edition is beyond any reason. It’s called a collectors edition for a reason. People that actually collect games always value a disc over anything as the value of the code drops to 0 as soon as you redeem it. Why sony didn’t think about this is beyond me. I would have to seriously reconsider buying this as it forces me to buy a physical copy as well just as an add to my collection.

    • Maybe that’s the thinking Sony is going for. Have us buy 2 copies to have a complete experience.

  • Why the Jötnar Edition are not available in Brazil? Why these kind of premium editions never come to Brazil?

  • Hopefully, this God of War around the greater CE Jötnar edition will be available in SCEE countries (like NZ) as we only could preorder the lesser one in 2018. 🧿🏛💙

  • Why is there no discs in the collector’s editions? That’s so dumb, hard pass. I want the steelbooks but what’s the point without discs…

  • Disappointed there isn’t a standalone Steelbook edition. I was thinking we’d get one since TLOU2, Ghost, and HFW all had them. Hopefully Best Buy or another retailer will be selling them individually.

  • “I find your lack of pricing information disturbing.”
    – Darth Consumer

  • Special edition ragnarok ps5 console please

  • Looks great. Hope price is not outrageous.

  • Why not a sell a standalone Steel Book edition with disc included? It really doesn’t make sense to include a steel book display case without the disk included in the collectors addition.

  • Disappointing. Hopefully Best Buy offers a steel book with the physical base game. Apparently offering split PS4/PS5 physical discs with CEs is detrimental to profits.

  • I’ll just pre-order the standard and get the steel book on ebay at a lower cost.

  • the_new_xsoldier

I’m probably stupid for asking this but where can you pre order the collectors edition? I didn’t see where only a date is it through playstation or Santa Monica?

  • Come on guys, go and spend your money on another worthless collector’s edition with a few silly gimmicks and a nice box..

Seriously, I don’t understand what a collector’s edition offers to the player anymore.
Other than a nice looking (but most of the times cheap) plastic figure and the steel book, everything else is just silly.

Here, take some stickers or pins.
Oh, we’ve included some postcards you are never going to mail to anyone just for fun.
Here’s a map you are never going to use and an artbook you are going to go through once really fast and forget it on your shelf.
    200 – 250$ well spent…

Most of these editions “statues” are not worth the asking price compared to actual statues or premium figures from companies that do this thing exclusively.

I think most people are only interested in the steel books these days.
The steel book case is nice, as it looks and feels premium in your hands, however it’s incomplete without the actual disc inside, even if you never use it.
It’s like having a cool new backpack that you wear empty because you don’t really need to carry anything in it. Just silly.

I only get steel book editions anymore but even then, they must have beautiful artwork to make it worthwhile for me.
There have been too many times where a steel book case is just blunt and boring looking. No color, no graphics, just a logo or symbol from the game or something completely irrelevant.
Unfortunately this game’s collector’s edition seems to be plagued by all these issues.
Uninteresting items, boring looking steel book case and without the actual disc to go with it..

    • ^^^ Well Said. I totally agree! These Steelbook designers are TRASH! Boring!

Steelbooks are meant for beautiful dynamic artwork and this is BLAND!

I said the same thing about the last got a war game as well with that plain looking steel book..

They should take a look at Capcom games because they’ve been some of the best steelbooks in the past… I really enjoyed the Marvel vs Capcom 3 steelbook with collage of characters..

Some of the advertising posters for God of war would have made an incredible steelbook and instead they chose to make some bland boring one that literally took them two seconds to make without any creativity…

I constantly see fan mock-ups of the steel books from the last God of War game that you and I would probably like versus these companies do it like amateurs!

    • My bad for typos in last message and no Edit button… Can blogs like this and Twitter please add an edit button. Thx

Is adding an edit button that difficult?

  • brand_o_commando

Come on now… for the amount of money we drop on these special edition collectables… there is NO reason to leave the disk out… that it nonsense…

  • BIOHAZARDjihen_

I don’t usually comment on things, but a physical collector’s edition without the physical disc is mind boggling. As a collector it’s absurd.

  • theFallenMarvel

Many have already said what I was thinking. Literally defeats the purpose of buying physical. Don’t know whose bright idea it was, but it’s not the right move. 😑

  • Why they didn’t put the Disc version on Collector’s and Jotnar Editions? That was a dumb decision

  • I can’t wait for this to come out it looks sick

  • Please please make a Limited/Special Edition too! Just the Steelbook, with the disc in it and a small Artbook, that’s wall we need. ****
Just like those GoW (2018) and Horizon FW got.

  • A big miss on these for your core fans.

wished you followed the Witcher 3 blueprint. Preorder the game get nice art steelbook and a keychain tied to a character, in this case a version of that hammer would have made sense.

Instead i’m forced to buy base ps5 disc copy. I’d love to support Sony Santa Monica and one of my favourite franchises going to jaffe and barlog on gow1/2 on ps2 to the 2018 reboot. Had those day one gow2 launch was special as was 2018 except after watching judge on the launch show youtube and some idiot influencer thumbnail spoiled the final boss before i even got the game the next day off amazon.

Platinumed it and showed my son what i could that wasn’t too offensive, he loved the father and son and boating parts etc. Now he is older he is also looking forward to playing with me this fall / winter (i will be muting brok) and i expect this game to deliver and be another fun platinum.

Congrats on getting to sight of the finish line. Really looking forward to the game. But sadly no chance at buying any of this.

Maybe if there are nice ragnarok side plates or dualsense i could go for that. Personally i don’t care about steelbooks but every other comment in here is people disappointed about it. That should get your attention.

  • All of this digital download stuff really is garbage. It sucks for music. It sucks for films. And now it sucks even more for video games, and I don’t think most gamers like it.

  • Very, very sad, no disk version and no limited edition, WHY ??? I hava been waited so long for limited edtion like 2018 God of War….

  • Wish to know what material and size of the The Legendary Draupnir Ring is.

  • You should add the game in the collectors and Jotnar edition I was just thinking of buying if but I changed my mind very bad idea not to have a physical game copy in there.

  • “Buy this but we arent going to actually give you the game, for that you have to buy something else”

What a bunch of crap. Pass.

  • The Solution here is NOT to buy the Collectors Edition.

If you Buy the Collectors Edition you are giving in to corparate Greed.

Please remember folks, it’s a Buyers world, not a Sellers world, don’t fall for this corparate greed. Sony don’t love you.

  • because the collector’s edition and jötnar of god of war Ragnarök will not be available for brazil I’m Brazilian and I’m very sad about it please on the release date release these editions you said in the UNBOXING of these editions something like: I hope they have this hammer at the home of several fãs. but how will i have this hammer if it will not be available in brazil i will be very sad and disappointed with the game i love the most please release this editions in brazil please😔😭

  • because the collector’s edition and jötnar of god of war Ragnarök will not be available for brazil I’m Brazilian and I’m very sad about it please on the release date release these editions you said in the UNBOXING of these editions something like: I hope they have this hammer at the home of several fans. but how will i have this hammer if it will not be available in brazil i will be very sad and disappointed with the game i love the most please release this editions in brazil please😔😭

  • Don’t buy it. If nobody preorders it, then Sony will do a U-Turn and add the physical copy with the Collectors Edition.

Don’t be a mug and pander to this corparate BS. Boycott the Collectors Edition, and buy the standalone release.

  • Disappointing that Collector’s Edition are leaving out physical game discs. Nothing more than a loot crate. Hard pass on this, just like Horizon’s C.E.s. Please stop doing this, Sony. Please.

  • No disc even though you get a steelbook….. What…?

Also, there’s no simple deluxe edition for those who want just a steelbook? This sucks. I don’t want all the extra garbage and I REALLY don’t want a digital only version.

  • I have to agree with many here, I don’t like not having the disc in a Collectors edition.
It is probably due to logistics (and PS5 digital)
If you have two collectors edition why not have the disc in at least one of them?

  • No Disc = No Sale
Just here to add to the number of people complaining about the lack of a disc.
