UPDATE: All-new PlayStation Plus launches in June with 700+ games and more value than ever

PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

Update: We’re making fantastic progress with our launch efforts and I wanted to update you on the latest. We’re rolling out our new offering for PlayStation Plus a little earlier in select markets in Asia, followed by Japan. Here is a look at our updated regional rollout schedule.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022 (May 24, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe, Australia, New Zealand – targeting June 22, 2022 (June 23, 2022 in local time zone)

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. We were thrilled to be the first console membership service that included a refreshed library of games through PlayStation Plus, and also launched the first console game streaming service with PlayStation Now.

Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally.

  • PlayStation Plus Deluxe (Select Markets) For markets without cloud streaming, PlayStation Plus Deluxe will be offered at a lower price compared to Premium, and includes a catalog of beloved classic games from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations to download and play, along with time-limited game trials. Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

  • I never commented in here. I said to my friend, FireProof2020, that I will come back to playstation when Sony did this. Granted it took a few years for me. I got a PS4 Pro maybe 3 years or 2 years ago. I used to play PS Now a ton on the PC side of things, and now I will save my money for this Premium service and a PS5 Controller. Yes, I will buy the $119 USD tier. Also, although I’m not in Japan nor Japanese, I dunno why Japan isn’t getting Premium on day one

  • Please provide this service for India. We will be so happy!
I am so close to getting a new PS5 and this will be the perfect thing to pair it with.

  • Underwhelming is an overstatement….sony…pls

  • The only thing ppl actually wanted, was backwards compatible ps3 games, clearly if Playstation can stream them from the could, that nobody wants or likes because the quality is extremely poor. Then they can at least do PS3 disk verification & download for those that own PS3 disks for free, because we already paid for them…

Once again we have this three tier system, nobody wanted or asked for. It failed on PS3 and is going to fail again…
Nobody except a very small number of ppl will even pay for anything above tier one, that’s because the pricing is greedy & a ripoff…

PlayStation Get your act together and make backwards compatible ps3 games downloadable instead of streamed, because if you don’t this…

This generation will be your last.. I have already ordered an Xbox & A PC and will now be selling my PS5 as it’ just junk to me now…. I am also sick of waiting for ps3 games to happen i can get most of them on Xbox…

  • PlayStation Extra seems super promising, but WOW is PlayStation premium a complete letdown. Hell, I’ll even take Deluxe over Premium.

  • Why is Plus Essential reduced to 2 games, when we’re getting, at least, 3 right now?

  • A new rebranding but still the old mentality. Why still not allowing region change? We are in 2022 and your systems look from the 1950s.

  • You need to add Launch Day games to one of those tiers to be competitive with Gamepass. Don’t get me wrong this is a really good start. But its a big thing these upper tiers are missing. Doesn’t have to be every game either. For 9.99 I can get around 100 xbox games and Xbox game studios games same day release which is like Gears of War, Halo, and now any Bethesda game. That’s just my takeaway.

  • Its Like I know Sony and their Business, you guys did everthing exactly what I said should be done with the service including PSNOW+PS Plus leveraging the PS1/PS2/PSP games you already have licensed on Vita and offers into the service. My question would be does this work on Vita or is it just PS4/PS5? buying classics on Vita get expensive really fast and this service would be a great reason for me to enjoy some games on Vita. much needed changes, a price drop would have been welcomed but this is pretty good. thanks Jim and I hope you can listen to the feedback

  • First tier same as plus, second tier plus and now merged with ps5 games (the only good news here)…..last tier adds games that should be on the service (NOW) years ago….old ps games….. Underwhelming is an overstatement as i wrote before… Rebranding but the same old Sony mentality. Still a long way to go to be on pair with services like Gamepass, a different beast.

  • Can we add Marc eckos getting up to the catalog please

  • What about ps3 games?

  • Screw you Sony and PlayStation. Xbox let’s us Australians use cloud streaming why can’t you. You almost bloody had me with this I’m incredibly disappointed, thanks for nothing.

  • “A catalog of beloved classic games available in both streaming and download options from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations ”

You bastards! So the PS5 can handle the emulation of the PS1, PS2, but wewill not be able use our own discs? A very greedy pratice, and MORE, Playstation should be enviroment friendly and using our own discs would help all those abandoned games around the globe.

    Shame on you!

  • This is a joke. I play ps now quite a bit and I got it for €60 i now have to pay €120 if i want the same service. I dont want to play online so im getting punished for being a one player gamer 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

  • So what happens if you already have PS+? I haven’t seen much answering that.

    • lmfao, it literally answers you question with the ps essential portion… But you have to actually read it. Read the blog post!

  • What about PS Collection in Essential tier, will it stay or be removed?

  • “Forefront on innovation”?! behind gamepass… more like the forefront of monetization… have friends? pay more to use the internet you already pay for on this system…

  • As for the value I’ll comment when the library for the service is available to be seen. Things I would like to see is that mobile devices be enabled to take advantage of the cloud gaming services at some point with the PC that is mentioned in the asterisks. Additionally there’s a decent library of Vita exclusive games that should or need to be part of this service. Before anyone pops of with “but touch controls” I have to point out the touch pad on every dualshock 4 & dualsense that exist at this point in time. Pure laziness to not throw that to a easily designated portion of the controller.

  • Can I sue sony for ruining my psp Resell business?

  • If you include the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy then you’ve got my money, Sony.

  • When I have PlayStation Plus Essential;
    – Can I use my PS3 disks I bought to get authentication and play the game I bought?
    – Same question for all the PS3 games I got on PS Plus?

    Will the games for PlayStation Plus Extra;
    – Be the same generally as they are now on PSNow? (they are not great)
    – Get updates to run better and smoother on PS5?
    – Will all games on offer, that have a PS5 update, GET the updated version?

  • Oh sony can bite me with this pricing. No way am I for one gonna pay these ridiculous prices. Got a good mind to cancel my subscription for this kick in the balls

    • I mean, the basic level costs exactly the same and has the same benefits as your pay now. So what exactly is the problem?

  • Hmm Microsoft gives access to their games across all platforms, including PC for $16.99. I think you dropped the ball here Sony.

    • Last time I tried the PC Game Pass, I was very disappointed by the low/mid quality of the games. I’m not saying it will be better on PS+, but I usually prefer games from Playstation Studios.

  • Will streaming be supported on mobile devices?

  • What we all really want is backwards compatibility. To be able to play our hundreds of games from PS1, PS2 and PS3.

    • I don’t think that’s what EVERYONE wants. I’d assume most people would want ps5 and ps4 games, seeing as they’re the most popular on ps now’s current system. Well PS4 games are.

I think with back catalog most people would be ok with some form of emulation. If you want to play your back catalog physical buy a ps3 that’s my advice

    • @markBOSS Me and my brother still got every console we ever bought (after we sold our first Nintendo and I always regretted it) but it’s getting harder to play these physical. Not too long ago I really wanted to play some PS3 games again and I don’t even know if I can still connect my PS3 to my latest TV (don’t think LG CX even has SCART) and even then my savedata for that is stored somewhere who knows where… It’s a hassle :) And backwards compatibility would be a nice gesture to old fans who still own these games instead of always trying to pry more money from them… I’ve never known Microsoft to have a good influence on the gaming industry with their Xbox, and even they got BC…

  • We’re definitely going to need clarification on the conversions.

The article says if you have PS now it will be converted to premium. Ok great.

But what if you have PS Now (which should convert to premium) AND PS Plus (which should convert to the basic level)? I have years stacked for both. My ps now sub should all be premiere, and then AFTER that expires my ps plus years should convert to the basic level.

  • To those commenting on lack of touch controls for vita games…. you do know the last 2 gen controllers both have had touch pads right?

    • And you do know that one small touchpad cant exactly replicate the functionality of two much larger front and back touch pads right?

    • Even setting that aside, this is a company that made the PlayStation TV. There are loads of Vita games that don’t require touchscreen functionality. Vita means life? How about some life support, Sony…

  • Please let us download ps3 titles. No one likes streaming

  • If no free sony games day one like Xbox does throw away the whole thing what a joke

  • Playstation plus and Playstation now are going to be one price?

  • i have a few questions

    1) can you download ps3 games, i say this because i was streaming a low end game (sonic unleashed and lego star wars) on my ps5 and was getting major lag spikes when i was breaking boxes, not ping but fps i use ethernet too.

    2) will there be discounts for the tiers

3)will games like sonic mega collection be on it (sonic origins is a re-release of this but has no news furthermore michale jackson music stuff so yh)

  • Would be nice if current PS+ subs get the highest tier automatically like PSNOW users with no extra fee?

    Isn’t it 3 games a month (2 PS4, and 1 PS5)?

  • Where is the video streaming? Sony pictures and crunchy roll/ funimation…playstation in poland has been enjoying the video service for over a year now, when does everyone else get this? Your basically copy pasting gamepass but at a better price, which is nice but how about you set yourself apart by adding video streaming. Giving us 6months apple tv free is nice but honestly its a little lackluster. pluto and tubi are free, and have much more content. Sony pictures…come on, your sitting on soooooo much video content and talk about releasing tv/movies based on playstation ip, why not put said shows on your premium service?

  • So PS1/PS2/PSP backwards-compatibility works well enough that we can pay $120+ a year to download and play whatever bones get tossed at us, but not well enough to download and play the games we’ve already purchased off of PSN, or run PS2 discs on PS4/PS5 consoles with DVD support? What a joke.

  • Does this you guys will finally have PlayStation 3 games be able to download and actually include their DLC with them? I’m hinting at Castlevania Lord of shadows where it’s DLC is crucial to the storyline of the game.

  • This is actually enticing. I was interested as long as PlayStation kept yearly memberships as an option instead of being forced to pay every month. Guess what else comes with monthly memberships? SALES! As I already have PS Plus and PS Now, this is simply a better version of what I already have. Glad I decided to wait on Death Stranding and Returnal, thanks for the heads up, I’m looking forward to those. If they keep the same quality PS Plus free games, I can see this going BIG.

  • Great news, finally after all the waiting and rumours…. Which seemed to be 100% correct.

Really happy to hear that current psnow memberships will transition to premium at no extra charge.

Not sure there needs to be a middle their…. Think keeping it simple is key to selling it.

Looking forward to seeing the game lineup and really happy to hear about ps1 and ps2 games coming. Especially if they’re downloadable.

  • I play my PS5 on a 4K 65 inch OLED TV. Never my life I understand why people complaining that they can’t play 15 year old games. After I play these new games? Even going back to PS4 games is rough.

  • What about our Digital library from ps3 era. Ive purchased many a ps1/ps2 games from their store. Will i be able to finally download them to my ps5?

Thats what this sounds like. I mean ive already bought it. Would like to not have both ps3 and ps5 hooked up at the same time.

  • would get if PS3 wasn’t streaming

  • “PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.”
I have a year of PS Now and two years of PS+. How is the conversion going to work here? Will I get Playstation Plus Premium until the PS Now expires and then it will switch to Playstation Plus Essential after that? I need more clarification please…

  • I’m very excited about this… cannot wait. $120 a year isn’t bad at all. You can’t afford that, then you’re doing life wrong.

  • I just renewed my ps plus for another yr, will I have to pay the full $120 for will I only have to pay the difference?

  • Unless they have day one new releases there is no point in paying more. I can almost guarantee any games they’ll offer I already own or didn’t want to play in the first place. Day one new releases or it’s a pass for me.

  • So i have a ps plus subscription that ends in August and a ps now subscription that ends next march
when this new stuff rolls out in June, will i only have it for 2 months or until next march?

  • I’m eager to see what this means for PC… Will we get PS1/PS2 titles like Silent Hill, Bully, or the original Grand Theft Auto trilogy?
Will you bring exclusive games like Datura, Fat Princess and the “Metal Gear Solid HD Collection”?

  • This is exciting. I wonder if it will include all the Suikoden and Shin Megami Tensei games that were available on the PS3 to download digitally? Also, just curious how much the upgrade would be if you have multiple years stacked with Plus. I sort of wish though that it would just let you play the games you’ve purchased digitally on the PS3 to be playable and downloadable to your current console.

  • So, to continue getting everything I get now in PSNOW, I have to pay more for a bunch of stuff I dont want?

  • I just wanna know if its going to have Need For Speed Underground 2 Remastered? Ive been waiting on this for 20+ years!
