UPDATE: All-new PlayStation Plus launches in June with 700+ games and more value than ever

PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

Update: We’re making fantastic progress with our launch efforts and I wanted to update you on the latest. We’re rolling out our new offering for PlayStation Plus a little earlier in select markets in Asia, followed by Japan. Here is a look at our updated regional rollout schedule.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022 (May 24, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe, Australia, New Zealand – targeting June 22, 2022 (June 23, 2022 in local time zone)

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. For more information, including pricing for your local market, please visit our website at https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ps-plus/

Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. We were thrilled to be the first console membership service that included a refreshed library of games through PlayStation Plus, and also launched the first console game streaming service with PlayStation Now.

Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

  • But can we play Socom2 online yet….👀

  • Can you for the love of god remove the region lock so I can play NA and Asia content in EU.

  • I was damn excited about this announcement and all because of PS3 games that I wud hv loved to experience for example Killzone 2.. but guess what it’s through cloud… means a lot of input lag and where I live (India). I’m not even gonna get that 😩🤷‍♂️

  • I want to be able to play the PS classics I already own such as: MGS 3. Do I have to pay extra to play my own game on my PS5?

  • So basically existing PS+ members get nothing, and existing PSNow members get free PS+ for the remaining months/years they currently have.

Why not give everyone the PS+ Premium for their remaining subscription?

Also nothing really changes. PS+ Premium = PS+ and PSNow combines, and the price remains the same € 120 for a year.
PS+ players that did not want the PSNow wont be buying the PS+ Premium at this price either.
PSNow player that did not want PS+ now have to pay € 60 extra for the same service, but they get forced to get PS+ as well.

    Good thinking Sony!

  • This is exactly as I was expecting.

Genuinely disappointed in PlayStation lack of care about Backwards Compatibility emulation, for art/games preservation.

    It’s disgraceful at this point.

  • I just want 2 things

    1. Full access to all of Playstation library (ps 1,2,3,4,5, psp & vita)

And 2. I stream on Twitch, will I be able to stream this content no problem? Please make this happen 🙏

I need my MGS & Tenchu wrath of heaven back pls

*Also can we please include sleeper titles, like Red Ninja (idc how bad it was I want to play it) and blood will tell, godhand, dude all of the splinter cells *faints* thanks Sony

  • Will there be any integration with existing PS3 accounts? I have a large library of downloadable classic PSone, and classic PS2 games I purchased off the PS3 store. Would they be available for me to play with or without a PSplus subscription?

    • I wouldn’t count on it. They want more money. Even the base Plus now mentions 2 games instead of the 3 we’ve been getting.

    • Seconded.

I was a PS+ subscriber on day one, and if I could actually access all of my past content except PS3 (but including PS One classics for PS3 / PSP / Vita) on one system, I would think that the classic vanilla version of Plus is a truly great service. Let me access the stuff I bought, too, and the news today is amazing.

  • PS1, PS2 and PSP games should be natively backwards compatible on PS5 like PS4 games already are. I’m not paying a subscription fee for games I already own on disc. I can put Morrowind’s disc into my Xbox One and it plays without needing a subscription. The point of backwards compatibility is to have one console that plays everything, without the need to hang onto older consoles forever to continue playing those games. I traded in my PS4 and will put that money towards new games, yet can still play my PS4 games on PS5 without needing to have a PS4 any more. This works because pretty much every PS4 game works flawlessly on PS5 from day one and you can play games you already own including on disc. On PS4 only around 50 digital PS2 games worked, and Sony acted surprised that “the feature isn’t being used much”.

Well, of course it’s not going to be used much if the vast majority of PS2 games aren’t there. I waited years for games like Scarfare: The World is Yours and Total Overdose to come to PlayStation Store, but it became clear that wasn’t going to happen so I gave in and bought a pre-owned PS2. I would have bought those games from PlayStation Store but the choice wasn’t offered. Plenty of people are playing PS4 games on PS5 because virtually all PS4 games are compatible with PS5. When backwards compatiblity is done right like on PS5 and PS2 it gets used, when it’s done as an afterthought like PSP games on PS Vita, or digital PS2 games on PS4 it doesn’t get used when the majority of games don’t work. Simple as that.

  • So this means I am now able to play the PS1, 2, and 3 games I purchased on PSN on my PS4/5 at no additional cost, right?

There is literally no more excuse for you to not allow that anymore.

  • I am still waiting when Playstation Now will be on Slovakia.

  • This is amazing, holy crap yes!!! Thank you!!

  • Very cool! A nice opportunity to help many younger gamers catch up their catalog of older games quickly. Excited to see what games are to drop for premium, I’m all for it.

  • Can i upgrade to plus when I already have 2 more years of essentials?

  • As much as I love the whole Playstation Plus idea (cause you already been named Playstation Plus for over a decade), but you should’ve called it Playstation Evolution or Playstation Instant Access instead. And second, why no Vita? Vita turns 10 years old and I still had fond memories of this criminally underrated handheld. You’re not going to get Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Teraway, or any of the PS exclusive games on Vita for the new Playstation Plus pricing plan? And third, PS3 on cloud streaming? Why Jim Ryan? Aren’t you going to just add the download option so that us PS3 nerds are able to download some of the classic games on there like God Of War III, The Last Of Us, Tomb Raider: GOTY? Well, I have to wait and see if it works because Playstation Now was a total failure. It’s just only the PS4 and PS5 games you added and no new PS3 games, you have to stream these games instead because my internet connection sucks. As for Playstation Plus, do I have to keep my subscription until it expires in October because I already have it for $59.99 yearly? Trust me, they got some massive deals on sale. At least, I should get the premium instead so that I can play a lot of my iconic games as a kid: Crash Bandicoot 1,2,3, Warped. Tomb Raider 1,2,3,4, and probably 5, Medieval, Ape Escape, and my personal favorite, Parappa The Rapper.

  • What about us players who have already purchased months and years in advance on playstation plus?

    • Yeah what about us ? Can we upgrade the current subscription or we have to pay for a whole new one ?

  • Ok so finally no more games overlapping between PS Plus and PS Now… Good!

    • Why not?

More than likely the “essentials” games will be part of the “premium” catalog at some point, or the opposite.

The only difference is now you’re forced into buying Plus for Now.

  • over priced… 15.99 was the talk for premium since the start of Spartacus being leaked… 2) doesn’t touch xbox game pass or its backwards compatibility… 3) doesn’t offer anything for those who have all the games from past playstation generations. already.. I have a huge physical collection on all gens, I do not want to pay monthly or yearly for something i already own, especially when ps3 games can’t be downloaded which guess what xbox does with its gens…… your still behind xbox when you use to be at the forefront… and if there’s no way to turn a 2 yr playstation plus subscrition like i have right now into a 1 yr premium tier is the worst offense… i have to say i am let down…. what was the point of brining on board those who did bleem all those years just not to be real backwards compatible or allow us to play what we already own….

  • Yea I would love to know if we have the premium ps plus how would we be able to use it when Australia doesn’t have ps now

And what’s the price for the ps+ tiers
It does not say for Australia

  • Nothing to see here, move along. Honestly was expecting more.

  • cant they let the people already paying for ps plus get premium when the people who dont even have ps plus and only ps now are getting ps plus premium? i am confused.

  • This is such a garbage service, playstation now is a failure so now Sony wants to shove it down players throats & bundle it with playstation plus. Streaming service has ruined gaming & CEO’s like Jim Ryan actively promote it. The PS5 is nothing but a streaming console.

    Its sickening!!!

The old CEO before Jim Ryan would of never allowed these garbage changes to the playstation console. Players & owners of PS5 dont even have the WORLD WIDE WEB to be able to get on internet with our console because of these streaming services, we NO LONGER have USB support for PS5 all thanks to Jim Ryan and his i know whats best for business & what the consumer really wants idea!

Epic fail…period! My honest opinion investors need to oust out Jim Ryan & replace him & playstation owners may actually get an actual entertainment/gaming console like PS3 & PS4 was instead of this streaming crap box that we have now!

  • Yow let’s Go Hhhhh! Can’t wait I want the Premium One 😘 💕

  • So this will allow me to play PS1,PS2 natively? and PSP and PS3 by streaming?

  • Should have lowered the price for the PS+ Premium. This is just PS+ and PSNow combined which was € 120 before this overhaul.

Don’t get the ppl who are exited about this. If you are not an online player you now need to pay € 120 to play the PSNow games instead of € 60.

Also PS+ Essentials go down from 3 games each month to 2. So also a nerf in games, and the price remains the same. We are getting scammed!

  • Will we have trophy support for all of the games, especially streamed PS3 games? I wish we could have trophies for the PS1, PS2, and PSP as well lol

  • I take issue with the fact that with PlayStation Plus Premium, they will have PS1 and PS2 games that are downloadable to the console to play. So they’re played from the console hardware, not the cloud. Why not let us play them off the disk if we own, for example, that PS2 game disk itself? Why not allow that option at no extra cost if it’s one of those 340 games they will be offering as a download, meaning we know it works with backwards compatibility? Smh.

  • IMPORTANT QUESTION!
Righy now, we have subscription sharing – if one user on a PS4/5 has PS+, ALL other users enjoy the benefits from that subscription – games, the ability to play online etc.
Is this gonna be the case for these new tiers? I have 2 PS4s and 2 PS5. I don’t know if I can fork out 240 euros a year for both of them.

  • I hope they add Nightmare Creatures from PS 1!

  • You want me to subscribe to get access to old gen games I already have physical copies of?
Or even ones I already have digital copies of?
    No thanks. You failed.

  • Translation: nothing changes for the basic $10 PSN service we have offered all along. The only thing we’re doing here is castrating PS NOW into three fragmented tiers and agreeing to grandfather these discounted tiers into PSN. Hey, don’t call this lipstick on a pig! It’s lipstick on a pug … Cuz pugs are so fugly they’re cute! Just like our press releases …

    • They also made the pug have to be paid for along with the pig (no pig only service for pig streamers) and sneakily reduced the pugs legs from 3 to 2.

  • Glad to see basic service remains at the same price, I was a bit scared there

  • Hey, when can PS5 owners expect a game that’s actually exclusive for the expensive, hard to find console they purchased? I’ve been a Sony fanboy my whole life and I’m really regretting spending the cash on a system that has almost zero exclusive content close to two years after launching.

  • In my opinion there is a tier missing:
The Basic Tier (or what should have been called essential).

There are a lot of people who don’t really care about the monthly “free” games, that playstation offers randomly or the plus discounts.
These people just want to be able to play multiplayer and co-op with their friends online.
I believe there should be a Basic Tier, offering just the multiplayer access and perhaps the cloud storage at a low, reasonable price like 20-30€/$ per year.

This would have been essentially free money for Playstation since the online infrastructure is already covering it’s cost and more through the other subscription tiers.

In my case, I just buy select games I’m interested in and don’t wait to find them randomly through any game pass type subscriptions so there is no value for me there.

    • Multiplayer shouldn’t be locked behind a pay service, anyhow. They are literally selling people multiplayer games for high prices and then refusing them the ability to play those games. If you buy a game like RDR2 or GTAV or Final Fantasy, that has an online component built in, we should not be paying an additional fee to access those features. We already paid for the game. Doing so should be illegal.

  • Thank you for still allowing this to be paid yearly and not forcing a monthly subscription on us! Also, glad to see that AAA games won’t be forced to launch on here, and therefore won’t go down in quality!

  • Still no love for Linux, huh? I think the one possibility of me subscribing to a digital service like this over actually OWNING the games I play would be the ability to stream PS5 (and older) games to my gaming PCs in my den and bedroom — which both run Linux distros. Unfortunately Sony still refuses to make a Linux client for their remote play service. Woe is me, I guess. I’ll keep waiting. I’ll probably wait forever…………

  • Now I have an active subscription of what they call it now “PlayStation Plus Essential” can I upgrade it to “PlayStation Plus Extra” ?

  • Basically ps+ nerf from 3 games per month to 2.

And adding psnow library to ps+. 🤮

  • You should ditch the 9 pricing options and just have one monthly cost for each tier like Gamepass/Gamepass ultimate.

  • So uninspired. They literally just slapped them together. Just like they did for online costs, simply added that to an existing subscription and made us all pay for it instead of just the people who were interested in PS+. Just like how you didn’t even bother creating new boxes for PS5 games and just use the blue PS4 ones. I used to say they shouldn’t spend too much money on PR etc. but ever since Jim Ryan, Playstation just feels cheap and uninspired.
The only thing I did want from this, was a cheaper tier for online access only, so as not to be forced to support their PS+ anymore (which, in all fairness, should’ve been available from the very start). Basically, the current set-up makes people who don’t care about the games pay more than double for what they would pay for just online, while the people who would’ve subbed to PS+ either way essentially get their online for free. Talk about favoritism…
SEPERATE ONLINE COSTS FROM PS+ to make it fair for everyone, as opposed to simply introducing more expensive tiers!!

  • What about Mexico

  • guys don’t u realize that on black Friday the yearly for all of the tiers will be 33 percent off. 33% of 120=40 120-40= 80. it will be 80 dollars a year for premium on black friday! about 2x times the price of the essential on black Friday.

  • Why is no one complaining that the equivalent to the current subscription is going down to two games instead of three, while keeping the cost the same?

    • Yeah, what the hell is up with it? Probably the games will also become pure gabrage so people pay for the other tiers

    • Become pure garbage?

Not long ago we got a sports title and title actually free elsewhere. Not sure there’s much more room to reduce quality.

  • There were times I thought about getting PSNow, but if the new game offerings in the essential/premium catalog is even better that’s a good long-term solution.

  • £99.99 that has to be a joke. Seriously you couldn’t atleast make it round 80 or 70 quid for premium?

  • I’m liking this. 😊 I currently subscribe to both PS Plus and PS Now without any problems. PS Plus Premium clubs those together.. giving me the monthly games and discounts and ongoing streaming capabilities while making the standing library of games for download even richer.. at no additional cost over what I pay today. 😊 Now I just gotta figure out the timing 🤔 the 2 services I have renew 7 months apart… with my PS Plus subscription coming up first.

  • I already have like 2 years of psplus if I wanna upgrade am I paying full price

  • Meh, I’d pay to have a native PS3 emulator and be able to play my discs and buy more games on PS Store. But I don’t care for streaming.

  • My current PS+ runs out in 2025 will i be able to upgrade it

  • So will new 1st party games be available on the service day one?
