PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. We were thrilled to be the first console membership service that included a refreshed library of games through PlayStation Plus, and also launched the first console game streaming service with PlayStation Now.

Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally.

Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

*Local pricing may vary by market. PlayStation Plus catalog titles may also vary by market and tier, and may change over time. • I better see black ops 2 on the ps3 game list

  • In my opinion, this is just a horrible gamepass competitor. You pay so much more to stream classics and not have the ability to download the game. Lets just say those games will be good fine. Merging ps plus with now doesn’t feel good because ps now sucks. These guys can go ahead and give us great games at launch but what matters is what they plan to do after. Unless they change the backbone of ps now I can’t see this being nearly worth it. Xbox game pass will drop batches of games and have days where that drop 10+ games on the pass. It truly feels like you have the Netflix of gaming. With PS now these guys have a set of worthless games and add good AAA titles monthly. For this to be worth it they need to change the way ps now works. I don’t care about them adding god of war. Who hasn’t played this game. PS plus in general is a major scam. They give our mortal combat for free but a lot of people already have it from the ps plus collection. This will be successful no matter what because its PlayStation and we give them so much slack.

  • Lost in all of this is the fact that PlayStation currently caps the number of cloud saves at 1000 that customers can upload for some reason. I myself have already reached that cap, and that’s before accessing this refreshed catalogue of 700+ games.

PlayStation, up your arbitrary cloud save cap limit ahead of this refresh.

  • Please add support for MacOS not just Windows!

  • No thank you.

  • So when my PS+ subscription rolls over (In September or November. I forget exactly when) will it automatically switch to “essential”?

  • I’ll pay the top tier BUT when will you expand your streaming service to Latin America? What’s the big deal considering here we have very good internet conections?

  • Sony, if you really wanna be on the level of xbox gamespass, show us the full current catalog you’re offering on drop.
    It’s quality, not quantity!

  • No, thank you.

  • No VR games?

  • I would like to know if you will have the option to upgrade existing plans (PlayStation Plus Essential) to PlayStation Plus Extra without paying the full amount.

    • That’s the weird thing here there were going to be so many questions about people who already purchased years worth of PlayStation plus or PlayStation now or a combination of both actually Sony didn’t detail to them this is what your future looks like. I know people who have years worth of both subscription models and they want to know what happens now?

  • This is it? So now we have to pay for demos? I haven’t heard or seen anything at all that entices me to spend the extra money.

As it stands the game offerings are slim depending on taste in games and certain IPs are not even offered an have been abandoned for years like Socom.

I feel like selling my ps5 an buying a pc because Sony is offering me much in the form of entertainment anymore.

  • Let us play our entire digital playstation library on ps5 and ps4

    • That’s a weird thing that is the service I would’ve paid for. If I could go back and play my digital library games that Sony clearly knows I purchased online on a current generation platform I would give them money for that just let me play my old stuff that I already own.

    • There’s a reason I bought the $600 PS3 on day one. Sony jumped to the top by embracing and expanding upon the console generations that came before it. Then PS4 happened, and everything changed.

  • I’m so disappointed Sony. All I wanted was downloadable ps3 games. I’m so sad for these new news. I love Sony but this is bad. I’ll be sticking to PlayStation essentials. Man this sucks.

    • You read some news here. So only literally said hey it’s the same thing that’s before we’ll dress it up differently now. I don’t know if that qualifies this news.

  • Saw this coming, it the game pass model but more expensive and you can’t download the PS3 games to play without streaming.

I’m super glad they didn’t alter the current tire and price, though. I’ll probably just stay here since I already pay for GPU which lets me play games on my pc and my Xbox and I don’t have to stream them.

But we’ll see, gotta wait til after launch

  • I hope ‘Death Stranding’ and ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ won’t be just for PS5 players. We’ve seen Sony giving PS+ games like ‘A Plague Tale: Innocence’ only to PS5 players despite the existence of a PS4 version.

  • more money . Money, money money

  • I’m a game when I play all three of the Bayger platforms Nintendo, Sony, Xbox I have love for all three. Today looking at this announcement it’s not giving me that warm fuzzy feeling inside. I understand what Sony has to do in PlayStation plus great service everybody uses it because you have to gain online if you have a PlayStation odds are you’re playing online or you’re watching something online and you need that feature. PlayStation now soon to be extinct wasn’t a necessity and it wasn’t the greatest feature in the world. Meaning of my friends have PlayStation plus most of them don’t have PlayStation now it just doesn’t interest them. So I hoped with this announcement Sony would do more they would be able to take what’s good about PlayStation plus and fix what’s not so attractive about PlayStation Now.

Sad to say but that’s not what happened here. The first here is your traditional PlayStation plus quite literally lined up for you. Even the pricing structure matches your old basic PlayStation plus. So people will like it. The second and the third tier that’s literally just PlayStation now broken up into two separate components. No it is worth noting game trials are being added which is great I think in the 21st-century it’s nice to be able to try out a game before buying it however here is where the questions come in. Perhaps most importantly what games not just what games will we be able to demo what games are coming to this service. I mean this is an announcement and you’ve pretty much made the announcement that we already knew was coming the only thing new here for most of us is the pricing structure. We could already figure out how many games were roughly coming to the service but most of us want to know what games specifically are coming to the service we literally want that long list so we can compare. What you offer on PlayStation now today and what you’re going to offer in a few months we also want to know what games will we be able to demo is it every game in the store is it only a select few that’s going to be an interesting question. We also didn’t see anything about what happens if you have purchased years of subscriptions with the song to be extinct Services. If I have five years of PlayStation plus already purchased how is this going to work if I have three years of PlayStation now purchased how does this work exactly. What if I have years of both purchased already that’s really going to be interesting. Now I’ve seen separate articles not here on the PlayStation blog but elsewhere or PlayStation now subscribers will be given everything for as long as they are subscription was paid for but what happens when they’ve also purchased PlayStation plus long-term. Not that many people but they do exist

Overall this is like being promised some new toy for Christmas and mom and dad went and wrapped up your old toys and put them in a shiny box but it’s still the old toy you are used to. I hate to say it but this didn’t do anything for me. Most people I know are going to go with either the first or the second tier. Well I want to play classic games from the PS1 and PS2 generation unless you can get all of the classic games I want I’ll just skip it. I might wanna play some PS3 titles but I don’t want to play them streaming . I know why Sony can’t deliver them in a downloadable fashion I understand but as a consumer I don’t want them on a streaming platform I want them on my hard drive.

I guess we can wait for the next big announcement from Sony because now we need a list of every game that’s going to be here on this service. They are going to need some bangers to bring people in to the higher tier models and I don’t know if that’s possible for them because a lot of these games won’t be first party launch releases third-party launch date releases most of these we might’ve already played so why would I pay for a service to have them again. Also it makes the question how often will we see things refreshed in the service once a month once a quarter once a year more questions that need answering.

  • I’ve already paid up my PSplus subscription for the next year+. How do I add-on for the higher tiers?

  • This is horrid, I could barely afford ps+ yearly, now they are adding teirs?tears?! This is one of the most stupid ideas I’ve seen from playstation.

  • Hola, que pasa si tengo playstation plus suscripción del año, y quiero migrar a playstation plus deluxe?? Tendre que pagar el 100% o un diferencial adicional? Sería injusto pagar el 100% siendo que lo contraté hace 2 meses atras!

  • more money, money, money, money

  • Question: it says PS Now subscriptions will convert into the premier tier. But what will happen for people who have years of both PS Plus and PS Now stacked up? Any insight? Thanks.

  • I’d like to see a list of these 400+ games so I can decide between Essential and Plus…

    • Want the list, just go to what PSNow is offering. Those are gonna be the games. This isn’t anything new, this is essentially just a rebranding.. sad if you ask me..

  • Will games in the PS2, PS3 be hackable and not have a slight delay with the controllers

  • Really hope they consider making the PSP, PSOne, and PS2 games they are adding to this to be available for individual purchases as well since I think subscriptions are a horrible.

  • Will Backwards compatability be on the console in general or is it locked behind PS+ Premium? Cause i did buy a lot of PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3.
I hope it wont be locked behind a paywall.

But i am excited for the service.

  • i hope for the tier 3 this includes every ps1. ps2 and ps3 game then its worth it

    • I think people need to read these announcements again if they think that is even on the table as a possibility. Jim Ryan won’t do it, and the way these features are placed on each tier, shows they don’t think basic customers want or need features like backward compatibility.

  • So instead of adding true backwards compadibility or playstation exclusives day one via the extra subscription all we get is basically Ps plus and ps now combined their were only 3 million people out of 117 million users using the cloud streaming service for a reason because streaming games just doesnt work on tv thats why we asked if we could download PS1 PS2 and PS3 games on the PS4 so ya’ll can close down the PS3 stores and we dont lose all them games too the end of time

    • Yeah, I don’t think people realize all they did was combine PS Plus and PS Now for tier 2 and for Tier 3 added PS3 streaming. So Tier 1 is the same price, Tier 2 is the same price as PS Plus and PS Now combined with less content, and Tier 3 is everything we have now combined for a higher price…

  • Only being able to stream PS3 games is definitely a disappointment. Interested to see the actual list of games for each tier.

  • So additionally to Ps plus i have to pay extra to play the ps1/2/3/psp games i already own and bought on the ps3/store or on disc and then ps3 games are still stream only?

Pls kick Jim Ryan out of Sony

  • I am looking forward to the new plan but rather disappointed to see there is no family option. With 4 PlayStations in the house we will be paying almost $500 per year for the top tier for all of our PlayStations and PSN accounts. That is a very substantial increase from our ~$200 yearly fees currently for PS Plus.

  • Very excited for this and I’m relatively pleased to see the prices. They seem very fair. It’ll be nice to have these services combined into one streamlined product. Glad it’s called the same name too

  • The time limited trials being in the highest tier is a massive slap in the face it should be in the essentials tier. In fact it should not even require subscription. You don’t give refunds like Steam does on PC so if I buy a game and decide I don’t like it after a couple of hours I’ve potentially just lost up to £80!

It’s not rocket science! If I could get a time limited trial of any game then I’d be more like to buy at full price since I’d know if i liked it. As it stands now unless it’s a sequel to a series I’m already invested in I won’t buy it until its in the sale with at least 35% or more off. For games I’m even less certain of it would have to be more like 70% off before I’d consider buying it.

  • Im intrigued….im curious as to which older games will be offered.

  • What exactly changed here?

You combined PS Plus and PPS Now for the same annual price as they are already separately, EXCEPT you took out PS3 streaming and placed it in a new tier that is more expensive?

Even if I’m not looking at that correctly, I have no need for ANOTHER streaming/rental/subscription service. You’re behind the curve on this, and this isn’t providing much, if any more value than your competitor. Had the PS3 games been able to run natively on my PS5, I MIGHT have considered this. I’ll be sticking with the first tier I guess (even though I don’t play online, but do find online saves useful). Let’s just hope your free game offerings don’t start to blow like Gold’s do now.

  • Im not even worried what they do. Can they just please get it done, cause for some reason i cant buy games on the ps store…..

  • Will NCAA 14 be apart of the 17.99 premium subscription if so I will pay for that subscription right now to be able to play that game on the Ps5

  • I suspect existing PS+ will convert to “PlayStation Plus Essential” after launch.

If we already have existing PS+ subscription for like another year (or more)
Would it be possible to convert from “PlayStation Plus Essential” to be “PlayStation Plus Extra”?
Is it possible? And how much would it cost?

    • It flat out says that it’s going to do exactly that: PlayStation Plus Essential
      Benefits:
Provides the same benefits that PlayStation Plus members are getting today, such as:
      Two monthly downloadable games
      Exclusive discounts
      Cloud storage for saved games
      Online multiplayer access
There are no changes for existing PlayStation Plus members in this tier.

  • Wrong, wrong, wrong. Why have tiers? Just do Gamepass-Sony-Flavor. You guys had no problem ripping off the Nintendo Direct, why not just as blatantly ripoff another good idea? Why can’t you just have ONE payment with access to EVERYTHING? You know, like the whole point of this style of service…??

  • I really can’t get past how much I despise Jim Ryan for his views on old games and now he’s making it ridiculously expensive to even access these games without an alternative, I really think base PS+ should see a price reduction and these other tiers should be priced significantly less as well. I also hope others demand an alternative for individual purchase of each game from the older generations they plan to add to this service, because there should be no reason for me to have to pay that much money if there’s just one or two games on there I would like to access and to not be bound to this service.

  • Sooo gamepass still winning with these prices. Sad Sony.

  • I have a question, Will there be a large majority of ps2 games?, if so would there be Need for speed most wanted and need for speed underground 1 and 2?.

    • Doubt it. Jim Ryan thinks backwards compatibility is pointless. Even basic PS3 game access is dropped in the highest tier, because he believes it’s a feature people should just pay extra for if they want it.

  • Damn Sony, I have two kids plus myself. That’s going to be $360 a year just to play games online! How about coming up with a family plan like the way Nintendo does for the Switch?

  • Lesss go so excited for it 🔥🔥

  • Hi will this new tiers be available in south africa

  • Come on… I live in Greece, where PS Now isn’t available, so I guess no PS3 games for me

  • The most important thing: WHY NOT VITA?

  • Unfortunately, it looks like my PS3 isn’t going anywhere, and will still see more action than my PS5. Until previous consoles are fully supported (saves, controllers, locally storing the game), it’s a shell of the real experience. Oh well, back to waiting for FFXVI news.

  • Since I know of no way to direct feedback back at Playstation that matter in any way I really hope this is one way to reach them and I say AGAIN AND I WILL REPEAT, give us more alternatives to access these older generation games don’t make it into the most expensive feature in your service offering.
