Gran Turismo 7: An update from Polyphony Digital

Details on player experience improvements, upcoming patches.

Dear Gran Turismo Community,

Thank you for your continued support and feedback on Gran Turismo 7, your voices have not gone unheard. I would like to apologize for the frustration and confusion caused last week with our patch updates which resulted in, not only a server outage but also adjustments to the in-game economy which were made without a clear explanation to our community.

We know that this is not the Gran Turismo experience you expect and we will be making a goodwill gesture in the form of a non-paid credit pack of 1 million Cr. available to those players who may have been affected*. You will see this hit your accounts shortly. Make sure you log into the game before April 25 to claim the credits.

The patch update previously deployed was intended to rectify an issue with inconsistent reward payouts within a part of the World Circuit Events.  But, to re-establish the intended equilibrium and provide more accurate rewards based on time investment and completion, it was necessary to recalculate the rewards system as a whole.

To improve the player experience, we will be rolling out a considerable patch in the beginning of April.  The number of events will be increased, and we will reestablish the reward system with greater balance throughout the game to benefit all players.

Updates which will come into effect beginning of April:

  • Increase rewards in the events in the latter half of the World Circuits by approximately 100% on average.
  • Addition of high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/All Bronze results.
  • Increase of rewards in Online Races.
  • Include a total of eight new one-hour Endurance Race events to Missions. These will also have higher reward settings.
  • Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr.
  • Increase the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.

Beyond this there will be a few additional patches deployed between now and the end of April which will add new cars and course layouts and make some other fixes.

Finally, we also want to take the opportunity to lay out some of the near-term updates we are working on. We can’t confirm an exact date or specifics yet, but will give advance notice via www.gran-turismo.com.

  • Increase the payout value of limited time rewards as we develop as a live service.
  • Further World Circuit event additions.
  • Addition of Endurance Races to Missions including 24-hour races.
  • Addition of Online Time Trials and awarding of rewards according to the player’s difference with the top ranked time.
  • Make it so cars can be sold.

We want to thank you for your continued patience and valuable feedback as we grow and evolve GT7 to make it as enjoyable and rewarding for as many players as possible.  We always want to keep communication lines open with our community so that we can work together to build the best racing experience possible.

*Limit 1 per person. Must own a digital or physical copy of GT7 for PS4 or PS5 prior to the publication of this post  (Friday, 25 March at 1:00am PST)  and log into Gran Turismo 7 between Friday, March 25 at 5:00pm JST/8:00am GMT/ 1:00am PDT and Monday, April 25 at 5:00pm JST/8:00am GMT/ 1:00am PDT to receive the free credit pack.

  • how about you fix the update system for the ps5 version of the game. i get ps4 version updated instantly, but have to wait days for the ps5 version update to show up. WTH???

  • What’s up with multiplayer options. Some of us just want the same in lobby options we had with GT Sport. Is that to much to ask……..?

  • What do you want to do about the fact that you can only get some tuning parts in roulette? For example that would be

    -Ultra High RPM Turbo
    -Titanium Con Rods and -Pistons
    -Stage 5 Weight Reduction
    -Carbon Propshaft
    -Stroke Up S
    -Stage 6 (!) weight reduction
    -S Camshafts

So you only have the chance to get something once a day and because you get the worst at 60% of the time, it’s mega unbalanced and that could have a negative effect on multiplayer.

Here is a list of the odds of winning
Best prize (usually a car): 1%
    2nd best prize: 4%
    3rd best prize: 10%
    4th best prize: 25%
Worst prize (small pile of credits): 60%

    • They need to remove it completely, and make it so the ticket allows players to exchange it for their choice of mod, or credits. which lines up with the tier of ticket.

    • Where did you get those percentages from?

    • I do think you’re not far off with the percentages, but are they real?
What struck me was that all my friends got the same 500.000cr. out of the final Cafe Menu tombola. Seems that one -at least- is rigged. What about the others? chances of getting the low-prices seems disproportionally high….

    • I got it from here and it comes down to what I’ve experienced. ****

  • Kaz referring to GT7 as a “live service” confirms all my worst fears.

We didn’t want a live service, we wanted a return to the great days of Gran Turismo and its singleplayer career mode. I’m disgusted and so disappointed. I remember how excited I was reading magazine articles before the release of the first Gran Turismo on the PlayStation 1 – how sad it is to be here reading this now.

The only steps that would save Gran Turismo for me are as follows:

    – Removal of online requirements
    – Removal of all micro transactions
    – Removal of Roulette
    – Return of traditional GT career mode
    – Ability to sell ALL cars (including gift cars)
    – Complete rework of Cafe as a shorter tutorial only (without the copious number of gift cars)

Nothing short of this will save Gran Turismo for me, and I am already well aware this won’t happen. Heartbreakingly, this is the end for my days with Gran Turismo. They have chosen their “live service” path and I see no sign of that changing. RIP to my memories of Gran Turismo (and the wasted money I spent on GT7)

  • Step in the right direction, but don’t try to sidestep these two issues:

There should be 2 different experiences, OFFLINE and ONLINE. via different save states. One stored on your servers for online, and one stored on our system for offline.

No reason not to have that. By having two different save states you’ll be able to retain your live service, and protect from “cheaters” while allowing customers to continue when the server is shutdown, maintenance is required, or internet isn’t available to them.
Let the customer choose their path. Its a full price product.
Video game preservation shouldn’t be ignored.

Also what’s going on with the Roulette system that has locked content behind it? That needs to be addressed also. Not a fan of predatory Gacha mechanics randomly thrown into a full price AAA game. This has been brought up by many and missing from the current proposal.

    • 👍

    • Agreed! The only thing that should be online is the daily races and online live races. The campaign and races against the A. I. should be offline and credits should be available for offline play as well.

    • There’s no reason not to save offline and online both on servers. This is storage we’re talking about. There’s no reason for downtime on where saves as stored. The benefit to that is you have roaming saves that don’t depend on your system (say if it breaks down or whatever). The system could keep a copy offline and sync as needed to make sure both server and system have the latest save. So, the save itself is not the issue.

They designed the game to check whether you’re online or not to enable all its features. Thats a digital rights management issue and an entirely different thing! Nothing suggests the game needs to be online to be played since all content is installed on the device to begin with. It’s BS quite frankly.

  • Thanks for respecting your community. I hope GT7 becomes the best GT

  • Need to patch the AFK credit script exploit and remove gains from those who used it.

    • Are you an investor in polyphony digital marketing department 🏬?

    • What a debbie downer. You must be fun at parties :)

People are cheating because this game’s design in insulting, not because they’re dishonest. They wouldn’t be doing this if playing the game normally was rewarding enough. It isn’t.

Let people be and mind your own business dude.

    • What’s up, corporate shill?

  • Hopefully, they keep hearing from the players and make more adjustments if and when needed. Kaz, we will be monitoring the progress of gran turismo 7 and we will keep you posted if any changes are needed to keep this game an enjoyable experience and not a cash cow 🐮 for the investors. Thank you for listening to the community and I hope you are going to make this game a great success for everyone who loves racing games and gran turismo 7. Sincerely yours, Adrián Moya.

  • but am I the only one who finds it absurd to start with a 30 “gap from the first?
the races are a continuous slalom in the midst of motionless cars, while it should be 10 laps fighting side by side with opponents who are more or less your lap times.
in my opinion that would be the only real revolution to make to the game …

  • Will the 25th Anniversary PS4 code be upgradable in the future to the PS5 version? Maybe in 2-4 months? I’d rather keep GT7 all digital than use the disc even if it costs me $10.

  • Great work Polyphony getting the servers up half an hour early!! And thx for the 1 million credits :)

  • I see they are panicking after everyone’s pissed over the unfair gaming system. What would have helped and really meant more was the ability to play offline in single player mode. To bad had the first 3 or 4 grand tourismo but with the online all the time set up imma pass on this one.

  • Another update and another disappointment for myself.
I love creating liveries 1st and racing 2nd, but STILL cannot add my livery creations to my cars due to error CE-222033.
I couldn’t care less about 1 million credits, I just want to create beautiful cars, that’s what I thought I was purchasing but that’s not what I have currently.
Will PD PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this problem.

    • Force Feedback is far worse in GT7 than in GT Sport. Please stop ignoring this. Many of us shelled out over $700 for the “Officially Licensed Wheel”. It’s a dealbreaker and totally kills the enjoyment of racing.

  • That is a kind gesture.
Can stil not get my head around the fact how PD could have gone from a fine online experience to a single player crappy-buggy online experience. in 2022. come on.
No word about fixing lobbies. We want to race human being, not another boring AI endurance in a puppy-class mission / track experience structure, grinding hugs and taps on the back.
Please get you prio’s straight Kazunori!!!

  • How about making the game playable offline

  • Keep well away from Always Online games.

  • The server never goes back online on time from maintenance… it’s already past 3AM PDT…… and why do you always perform server maintenance on a Friday?

PD seriously needs to get rid of the always online requirement… I bought a single player game, not a pay to win mobile game so why do I need to always be connected to play??

And don’t expect lots of players to pay money to buy cars in GT like thye do in GTA. There are so much more to do in GTA and racing is only one of them, but in GT all you can do is race. That’s the difference.

  • This has to be a direct response to getting review bombed in the last 72 hours.

    • And this won’t change that. This is too little too late. They should’ve sent at least 5 million creds to begin balancing out the imbalance people have put up with over time. 2x rewards is also not enough. $20k rewards on a 10 lap online race is still a slap in the face.

  • Online multiplayer lobby’s need to be sorted. Jerky/juddering cars make it impossible to play. The fact that you cant change parameters in the lobby without having to exit and set a new lobby up is not good. To move onto a second race, a new libby needs setting up too. Just make it the same as gtsport, that was perfect!

    • exactly that! copy paste and build from that. So unbelievable PD does this, totally disrespectfull to all playing online and all streaming GT like Super GT, Kie25 and others. What will they do, if this problem doesn’t even gets acknowledged by PD?

    • Right! … I think the issue is more in online races and lobbies than cr. issue. We need the lobby configuration can be change, save, edit lobby at least as GT Sport without creating a new lobby, now is impossible to do any race nor championship online.

  • That is a first step but not good enough by a long mile.
Some new cars are far too expensive compared to previous games and we always where able to sell cars to generate credits, why is that gone? The roulette thing payout is almost always the lowest of the options, it does take the fun out of that gambling mechanic instantly and leads to disappointment.
The whole invitation thing to buy an overpriced car is terrible and pushes to microtransactions (at least give me an option to turn it of because I’ll NEVER NEVER NEVER will spend extra money in a 75 Euro game).
Make the SINGLE PLAYER part of the game OFFLINE!!!!! The game isn’t playable for a ton of people with data caps or who don’t have internet at all (like people who work in the army for instance) and it makes the game worthless when the servers are down or turned off. Don’t be a jerk to them!

This whole mess made me worried for ALL upcoming PlayStation games. Reviewers weren’t aware so I wasn’t informed about the whole monetization scam that is going on in the game. It’s not fair to gamers who pay their hard earned cash to buy some entertainment. Due to what happened I have decided to stop buying new PlayStation games until I’m sure the game doesn’t mistreat it’s users with always online, microtransactions and other consumer unfriendly policies.
Kind regards, a disappointed Gran Turismo fan.

  • You need to adjust the Auto/manual transmissions on the Camaro zl11le, real life it has a auto 10 speed gearbox, but when playing the game it only has 6 gears. The real zl1 has 6 manual gears and the auto is 10. This needs to be reflected against the cars in the game.

  • Please add a USB stick export storage for images like in GT Sport. Thanks.

  • Unbelievable that they are blocking critical comments on this post.

    • I would have thought so but after 4 or 5 attempts nothing. There’s nothing even close to abusive or inappropriate, just a clear outline of my main criticisms of GT7, and how this update fails to address them. Seems like they can’t stand up to genuine critique of their game.

  • Thanks for this quick response.

  • I still have that stupid money bug
Can’t get money in the game…..

  • I want Red Rock Valley, Seattle Circuit, and the legendary Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak.

  • Hi, could you please give us feedback on why there is such a lack of FFB detail and info compared to gt sport. I just bought the gt dd pro and the experience so far is very dissappointing. The problem is starting to appear on youtube and forums. Unfortunately I see that you won’t address this issue soon.. Gran Turismo

  • And to start the game over. Trophies don’t transfer gens but the save does.

  • Can you please give us more prizes for winning races or championships please. Currently I’m playing a race to get my daily workout roulette ticket and then switching off because just winning credits is boring. I did by like the roulette tickets that much (90% of the time I get the worst credits prize and next it’s a part for a car I don’t own!) but at least it’s something to look forward to! Let’s make the game fun again and stop trying to earn money out of the gamers. Games are expensive enough now without having to constantly pay out to get anywhere.

  • Great news
But why can’t we choose our cars from the garage in 2players split screen like gtsport ; Please fix this

  • I’ve been playing gran turismo since the beginning on the original Playstation and have been playing everyone since. The biggest problem that I face in GT7 so far is the fact that there are players who are completely ruining the online experience. As a host to a online event we need to have the authority to remove toxic players from our lobby. Besides thatvi love the game and do hope we get a better shot at our roulette prizes.. thank you for your time and can’t wait for the soon to come update.

  • “Make it so cars can be sold” – this is a big step in the right direction to create an in-game economy that makes sense.

The next big improvement would be to randomise the starting grid or give the option of a qualifying lap in all races. Always starting from the last position makes the races unequal and takes away from the realism. Something that “a real driving simulator” should stand for. Nothing real about winning every race from last position in a few laps each time.

  • Too late and not enough, already got a refund from Amazon , why always online and you would like all that micro transaction money for whatever is a full price game .
Your greed because that is what it is means that I will never buy anything you make again.

  • Thanks for listening us, will you considered to make garage be more like a museum / car show. So we can see like 10 car we choose in the same time, walking at our museum with car collection we have, or other player can see our garage too. just like in the trailer. So the 20M car can be more worth every money and time we spend.

  • Well, thank you either way for the reward… And I would take the advantage of this moment to ask for ONE THING! Guys, I’ve been playing Gran turismo since I can remember. You guys do an magnificent job along the way creating content, graphics, the music, but in the past years I’ve been waiting for NEW CARS, just like my friends. You guys have done a great job with this one, but please… Can you add more cars… Just like my dream car for example… Mclaren 720s 2018!!!

  • Thank you Kaz! This is great news, just what we wanted. Thanks for listening to the Gran Turismo fans. I’ve been playing for 24 years. Thanks again for your response and communication.

  • Dear GT Devs,

How about making this quick change? Fix the roulettes. They are currently not roulettes because the probability of getting a lower tier reward is very obviously higher. This is still predatory behavior and there should be equal chances.

PS. What is up with the invitations to buy a car? How is that even a reward? Give us the car guys!

  • I’ve just bought Audi R18 and took scapes at le sarthe but no trophy, can I get a refund on my Audi please

  • plz add custom wheel rotation setting i hate that my wheel rotation keep changing depending on the wheel.
i want my own rotation like f1 280degree on all cars.
i hated gt sport now you did the same with gt 7 its so dam annoying that wheel rotation keep changing from 380 to 600 or 800 or 900
and do something about snappy oversteer on street cars

    • That’s not a bug. Your wheel rotation in GT matches the car you are in. So, you actually want the game to be less realistic then? lol I can see adding an option to override that for the few like you that prefer that, but that should never be the standard setting.

  • I will never ever purchase an always online game. I’m sincerely disappointed by the micro-transactions of this game and most importantly the game is always online.

I’m a Sony fan however, GT7 is another very very bad example of the horrid and terrible nature and trend of micro-transactions and most importantly online only games.

Always online games are a danger to game preservation and a danger to the gaming community at large.

Always online games will eventually stop working when servers are disconnected! Why would I pay to know that there’s an expiration date on my game play time.

I will never never purchase GT7 or anything like it by Sony!

    • PS owners need to speak with their wallets and show and prove to Sony this horrid and terrible anti-gaming practice is unacceptable!

  • Bravo. Well done, Polyphony. Don’t mind the incessant complaining sure to be in the comments. That’s just the internet these days. Some just aren’t happy unless they are outraged or complaining 24/7.

  • Please add more Full size trucks & SUVs Like the TRX / Raptor R / Track Hawk/ Durango with 6.2 Hellcat engine. Bit disappointing that theres only 2 trucks in GT7 & they are both old & outdated.

  • I honestly didn’t expect Kaz to admit he was wrong and take on community feedback this fast. Good to see these much needed changes, but more will be needed. Including making the entire single-player experience playable and save-able offline, reducing the cost of car parts (thought Kaz wanted real-world prices?). The sale value of cars needs to be very close to, or on par with their cost in the used market in game, the endurance race payouts need to be well worth the time, and potentially offer players high value rewards for the 24 hour races (Legend cars, as well as cash)

  • Wow, that’s quite the update! Thank you!

  • Can you please sort out the issue in world circuits where even after finishing in first place, you then are starting in last position in the following race which makes no sense.

  • Translation: Sorry we messed up, but here are a couple of trinkets and we hope it’ll soften the blow. Please be patient and excited!

Remove the online requirement for this joke of a game and next time release a finished product.
