PlayStation 5: Launch Day Ordering Update

Launch-day sales will be online-only this year, so please plan ahead.

Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us! In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

      you might want to pay close attention to places like costco’s kohl’s abt also
      As a third op…. Look for off beat sites and retailers that are (better business bureau rated that offer them Nov 2020

    This is all my 12 year old son wants for Christmas and I hope that there is a slight chance I can buy online without having big companies or other people buying up the lot. Should be limited to one per customer.

      It doesn’t matter if they limit it. People use bots to create hundreds or thousands of accounts and purchase entire lots.

    Without a way to combat or mitigate bots from buying nearly the entire inventory this is a disaster. I’m all for protecting people from themselves during covid — but this means that your fan and player base will be paying ~30-50% higher to play on launch day or anytime soon there after. Please prove me wrong and show us live graphics of number of units sold Vs. players online Vs. avg. price from third party retailers.

    This is total bs. I like many others have been trying to no avail to get preorder because you royally screwed up the pre orders and now those of us who want to get a launch day console wont be able to. Way to screw the pooch completely sony. You’re really making it difficult to stay loyal to your brand.

    So for all the people defending this, how many times have you gone out to eat in the last 24 hours? 9 times, 12 times, 16 times, it’s all good and covid isn’t an issue when it come to pouring slop into your face by the gallon every 20 mins but this is just to unsafe and won’t be tolerated. Lmfao

    I talked to somebody at a pretty big store and he said if you didnt get a preorder already youll be lucky to get a ps5 by xmas 2021 unless you pay big. I thought he was crazy but now it’s looking like he knew. Sony knows what’s going to happen and apparently they just doesnt care. Just like they didnt care about how preorders were handled to begin with. Sony is going to make their billions and will drop some half baked apology on all the bottom feeders about how they didnt realize and blah blah blah.

      People are stupid buying from ebay and amazon for higher prices that supports bot loaders to keep taking advantage of that and keep buying mass consoles.

    So we’ll have to pay for 1,503,99$ for a PS5? I thought it was supposed to be affordable on day one of launch. I thought it was supposed to be 700$ not a car’s worth. At that price, better buy a custom PC.

    Perhaps they should not be a wholesaler to sell 10 million units. Some already have playstation 5 in their hands what they worked on in the critics. That is not done you know. I hope they change this and sell it the same day in the market because otherwise I fly to China to look for the PS5 regardless of the conditions of this life.

    Looks like I won’t be getting one for awhile. I still have a ps3 backlog and I bought an Xbox one x last March. The DF video on Ps4 BCompatabilty was impressive. I think whoever gets one is going to be very happy. The rest of us will be fine

    When will we be able to even buy one?..I’m positive holiday season is going to be just as bad if not worse with than the pre-order bs…esp with normies thrown into the mix…I don’t expect to even get one until January or February…

    Anyone who has problem with this just don’t buy it straight on release day/week/month.
    It’s smarter to wait, and by the way why it’s really important to get PS5 as soon as possible? There are still plenty new releases on PS4 in the upcoming months.

    There’s more than 6,000 people (AMERICA REGION) who had the chance to pre-ordered and now they’re selling it on Ebay, Facebook and other third parties places for $800 up to $1,000. SONY controlled everything and they forgot about that. Should it be retailers, long time members and then everyone else. There’s a crazy amount of pre-orders ready to be sold back for twice the price and even more. And that’s only what I saw the past few days on ebay and facebook. Is not business at all.

    Does anyone know when the second shipping for Europe is going to take place? Is it before Christmas or after? Sony hasn’t informed about the production problem that it was claimed they had. Are we going to be able to buy a ps5 at Christmas or not? Because you can’t pay something something without knowing when it’s going to be available. Please answer me.

    Alright guys, I understand the frustration of not being able to get a launch day console. I know a lot of us won’t even get these because of bots. I want a PS5 as much as the next guy, but if you don’t get one early on it’s not the end of the world. I’m upset about not getting one early on. Just be patient with PlayStation, they’re doing their best. Regardless of how the feel about COVID rules they set them up to appease the masses. A PS5 is not worth fighting over and complaining doesn’t change anything.

    A better solution would be to have online orders for in-store pickup or curbside only for online orders due to the scalping bots. And it would still be covid compliant. Shipping direct dosen’t work with resell community on ebay beating everyone to the punch and ordering dozens.

    Hi Sony, is there a chance to add a “I’m not a bot” test to the ordering site to avoid the previous issue with pre orders.
    Distorted texts or chimney images are fine with costumers lol

    So I spent one of my vacation days to go into work on my day off to get a ps5 but nah I can’t even do that anymore so I’m spending all my money I saved for ps5 on alcohol and watching xbox win just like I’m drinking here watching biden win this is just as bad as the summer of 2011 👏👏👏

    I imagine what they mean by “disenfranchisement” is they expected the priveledge of being able to order a games console due to being a loyal customer for many years, before first time users.

    In Japan, things are worse, PS+ users were overlooked completely, to get a pre-order you had to have a pre-existing online store membership of the individual retailers (physical in store memberships didn’t count, only online memberships). That included Sonystore.

    Note NOT playstation store.

    I would like to think I too have been a loyal customer over the years (since PS1, and PS4pro pre-order).

    I was actually looking forward to playing PS5 version of NBA2k21 (which cost extra for the upgrade path). More fool me I guess…

    In conclusion, the above post resonates with me as well. I too will be building a gaming PC. I will wait for the PS5 price drop in a few years. I started looking on new egg last night.

    This is just ridiculous. I took the day off to by one for my 12 year old and what’s gonna happen is money hungry a-holes are gonna buy them up and sell them for twice as much. I’m very disappointed in PS, but not surprised considering they are a Silicone Valley company who doesn’t give a poop about their loyal customers!! It’s all about making a buck!!
