PlayStation 5: Launch Day Ordering Update

Launch-day sales will be online-only this year, so please plan ahead.

Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us! In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

    Hello there i just want to add that I have been playstation fan since day one I had every console made by playstation gladly to say but my concern to this online purchase due to the fact I had no luck getting a pre-order due to website crashing and bots
    What if we run into a website crash and are unable to purchase online and believe me there will be people that already have pre-orders that will buy more just to resale them.

    Horrible…. Looks like no PS5 go r me anytime soon then… Horrible launch using covid as a cover for it.. Hopefully this will be the last time we ever see an online only release of a console. Your true fans got beat out by bots and now you just have scalpers that are obtaining them at launch. My rating is 0/10 for this release. #epicfail

    We’ll see how launch day sales are handled. At this point, I dont have much faith that it will be any smoother than pre-order debacle. Guess i’ll wait for the 2nd generation

      Sony should have maintained complete control over this and only let true Playstation fans obtain the first two batches. I think it’s a big lesson that Sony doesn’t care about the people that have been with them since the original Playstation.

      Tell that to Walmart, who started pre-orders 24 hours early against Sony’s better wishes. This is also the first time Sony themselves has sold the console at launch. They clearly do not know what they are doing, which is a shame when the PS4 launch was flawless.

    Sorry I see the fighting back and forth in the comments but I see this a different way. I work retail and I am all about keeping people safe. I work at Costco we require you wear masks social distance etc. However that isn’t what this is. This is a very convenient “reason” stock is going to be severely limited. “Oh sorry we didn’t get it in store but you can try online! Oh there weren’t any sorry about that just keep checking!

    The only people getting them online are the ones who pre-ordered it ahead of time months ago. Its a clever PR bait and switch. I say as a Playstation fan as someone who already pre-ordered one and has extensive history working in retail and the industry. This is a blatant lie but it is told in a nice sweet way for the good of mankind. From a PR perspective its about the best you can do. From a consumer perspective it is reprehensible. They aren’t going to have the systems. Companies are going to “sell out” online of systems they didn’t have to begin with. This is seriously messed up my apologies to all of you that they are pulling this little trick.

      It’s fine man, I’m just disappointed to how people are acting in the comment section. I myself did not pre order a ps5 but I’m hoping to at least get one on launch but if I don’t then I’ll have to wait the week after or months/years later. but I hope you enjoy your ps5 and have a nice day.

      Correct. Apparently the planned launch was December 4th, but they moved it up to compete with the Series X. This, plus manufacturing issues, has lead to a severe dearth of PS5s. Japan isn’t getting ANY on launch day. 0.
      The good news is that there seems to be a plentiful supply of Xboxes out there, from the rumors that I’ve heard they were initially thinking of launching in August but decided to push the date back, and have been stockpiling consoles for launch.

    Please don’t do this in Africa, i live in Africa and i want to experience playstation next gen too like everybody, there are no stores in Africa which sells online because business is different than well developed countries, or if there are any retailers selling online playstation products especially ps5 and accessories let me know, i live in Morocco

    Just want to say how disappointed in Sony I truly am , being a loyal PlayStation player since PS1 and now I can’t even get a PS5 ? Probably have to wait till sometime in 2021 ? I have even have over $1,100 set back just for PS5 and games and accessories and can’t spend it at all !! Very disappointed in Sony and how they are handling the release of the PS5 !!!!!!

    This is April fool’s without a doubt. Ebay and other sites are full of scammers selling each pre-order at double the price, while sony says “plan ahead”.

    So I’m guessing that means on launch day we will still need to wait a few days to get it because stores will not have them in stock then am I getting this correct. I mean… did we not learn from the BS pre-order disaster, how GameStop screwed many people, Walmart website went down, target the same thing. from all this how many of these consols went to bots anyway? I bet that Walmart and other retailers will start purchases probably a day before because sony had no control over it. I just feel this is going to be a total and utter mess and disaster, besides people are probably going to still camp outside and use their phones just in case. Good luck to you all!

    Not that I care since I have my pre order but if you’re not selling in stores on launch day what about the copies Target claims they’ll have available? Can’t stop people from selling inventory they already have.

    Online Store?! Ohhh I was suppost to buy PS5 on Launch Day but in Online Store? I really don’t how to pay with creditcard because I’m still a noob about using in the buy online store it’s allways give me an error except PS Store. Is their another way I can pre order PS5?     This is a terrible move by Sony considering the amount of bots out there sucking up every single new release electronic device these days. At this rate i’ll never secure a playstation unless I go pay absorbent prices on ebay. Ridiculously dumb, and not in the best interest of the gamers.

    As a youtuber/ gamer this disappoints me .I have been waiting and saving for this console…. now I feel like I will lose out to people who have zero intent to play on the machine… I have never missed a release date on any of my console’s… This year I have no way to put in the effort to win… its literally a lottery. its who can click faster and whos internet is quickest. SONY Pre Orders were the same situation and everyone practiced social distance….. why do this to your gamers… I guess I’ll be buying a Series x .. as i have little to no chance on getting a ps5…. and will wait a whole year to buy my sony…. catch me online joey2flypers on YT

    1. Those of you lucky enough to get a pre-order in past the bots and scripts on initial launch don’t need to keep bragging on it. Not sure why you’re even posting.
    2. Not sure why anyone willing to wait until late next year for one is posting either. Good for you. I normally wait as well.
    3. I have a full time job and since my son is a teenager, this is the 1st and only time I thought it would be grand to get him a new system in time for Christmas. He will be a grown man by the time the next generation of consoles release after this.
    4. Due to the difficulty of pre-order, I felt that taking a day off work to get one on release day just might work. Now I will have to try my luck against the bots/scripts on line….fingers crossed and good luck to the rest of you who want a console for your home and not to resell…

    Wow, I got unlucky for the second wave at gamestop, camped out for seven hours and was seventh in line, but they only had six consoles. Spent these last few weeks preparing to camp out extra early for launch, but guess not now. Just tired of getting screwed over by bots.

    Unfortunately even though there are bots that I’m going to take up most of the orders on the 12th.

    I am extremely happy that this company chooses the health of its consumers as opposed to the bottom line.

    If I don’t get my hands on a PS five on launch time I will be 100% OK because I know I will eventually get it when the time is right.
    I’m just happy for my health my finances and most of all the ability to have this alleged problem as a first world problem.

    I never had a chance to preorder a ps5, by the time I found out about the presale, they were of course sold out. I would like to know if I will beAble to purchase one on or around the release date. I really want the new system and I hope I won’t have to wait a long time.

    Did Sony not take any consideration of what happened with pre-orders. I guarantee you if there is no PlayStation 5 on shelves on November 12th I guarantee you got nobody will buy a PlayStation 5. Third-party sellers are going to claim 90% of all your stock and resell on theirs at ridiculous prices and you as a company are allowing that to happen. I’ve been a fan of a PlayStation for a very long time and this is by far the worst news they could possibly come out with how you hype everybody up for months and then tell everybody you can’t get one on launch day in person. Then tell us you made 9 million units to sell for launch.. this is the future of Gaming PlayStation5 has no limit unless you’re ordering online..

    Great. So you shaft Japan by allocating 0 consoles for launch in Japan and claim that it’s because of the coronavirus, then over in the west where there WILL be consoles (because it’s more important to SIE than Japan now) all of the consoles that come out will only be sold online because they are trying to save face over the lie that Japan will get no consoles because of coronavirus. Congratulations, you have alienated all of Japan, and impacted the rest of the world with your shenanigans.
    This will be terrible for those who were planning to get a PS5 on launch day, anyone planning to buy a console for Christmas without a preorder will have to get an Xbox. Honestly I’m glad that I didn’t preorder the PS5, I refuse to support a company with such poor management that is consistently screwing over their customers. I hope those in Japan that can’t get PS5s get Xboxes, I’m going Xbox this gen and I want to play Japanese games.

    Wow just when you think playstation cant get worse has only 3 good games for ps5 you cant lay it on its side the god awful ps partys where they say there not spying but people getting banned without being reported and you cant kick or mute yourself to certain people and now this . So we wont be able to buy them because bots will and turn them for profet very nice sony when we turn to you for gaming and fun you just make this hear worse i dont want to say it but i think xbox is better

    I hope you people realize how much of a joke sony is. This should be your biggest chance to switch to Xbox. Don’t get me wrong I’ve wanted a ps5 as much as the next guy but they don’t care about us only our money. Guys we need to teach sony a lesson and buy an Xbox.
