PS5 Teardown: An inside look at our most transformative console yet

Your first look at PS5's internal components that will power the next generation of amazing games.

It’s getting close to November, and we are very excited for the launch of PlayStation 5 console. Today, we wanted to give you a sneak peek at the console’s interior, so you can take a look at all of the magic happening inside the PS5 that brings out the beautiful games you’ll experience this holiday season.

We began conceptualizing PS5 in 2015, and we’ve spent the past five years designing and developing the console.

Our team values a well thought out, beautifully designed architecture. Inside the console is an internal structure looking neat and tidy, which means that there aren’t any unnecessary components and the design is efficient. As a result, we’re able to achieve our goal of creating a product with a high degree of perfection and quality.

In this teardown video of the PS5 console, you will be able to see how we have thoughtfully integrated our technology into this console.

We felt it was inevitable to make a generational leap in terms of performance in order to deliver a new, next-generation gaming experience. However, to do so, we had to balance every aspect of the system, from focusing on reducing the noise level to enhancing the cooling capacity, more than ever before.

We’ve also highlighted the mechanism in the video below that we’ve incorporated into the PS5 console to make the operating sounds even quieter. After an extensive and complex trial and error process, we were pleased with the end result and I can not wait for our fans to get their hands on the PS5 console and “hear” it for themselves.

PS5 Teardown: An inside look at our most transformative console yet

Although we have faced unprecedented challenges this year with many of us working remotely from home throughout the world, we are pleased to be able to deliver a new transformative experience to you with PS5 this November.

*Do not try this at home. Risk of exposure to laser radiation, electric shock, or other injury. Disassembling your PS5 console will invalidate your manufacturer’s guarantee.

  • Is it just me or does anyone else wanna 3d print different side panels that’ll attach perfectly but make the ps5 look completely different??? I just think that’s the ultimate flex, to have a ps5 looking better than everyone elses

  • Nice to see what’s under the Next Gen hood, cause I know I’m not disassembling my PS5 myself ever. :0)

  • Such amazing tech. PlayStation engineers should be very proud. I am very excited to see the custom SSD controller in action. It’s fascinating how it reduces work loads on CPU and gpu. The above below cooling, the liquid metal casing , love it all. I can’t wait to hear the purr of that beutiful machine running.

  • It would be really nice to use the Sony XM3-4 headphones since it has bluetooth 5.1!

  • Do not swap our buttons here in Japan. Japan and America should be separate. It’s different cultures. No one is asking for this change.

  • Buen trabajo. Es bueno saber como funciona la consola desde antes de que llegue a casa. Me gustaria conocer la compatibilidad con standars de hdr en video juegos y peliculas como de sonido 3d en películas gracias.

  • I wonder if you can change the covers on the Dualsense controller🤔

Reason being,if you can change the covers on the PS5 to have the code all Black, it’s going to look silly with a black and white two tone controller🤔

I wonder if you can change the controllers covers, but Sony has yet to announced it, Hmm I wonder 🤔

  • what SSD is recommended for expansion?

  • For anyone wondering about SSD reliability, the SSD should have anywhere from 300-600TBW (based off the average in the industry for a similarly sized drive) of usage before it fails. That means for the average user would have to put in 3000 games at 100GB each before the drive begins to degrade past where it won’t be able to reliably write anymore.

    • Remember it’s not just being used as a game storage space but as a system drive.

So all the page files/save files/etc/etc/etc are going to add to the writes.

  • All we need now is a Unboxing video from Sony 😁👍 Oh and a look of the UI 😉👍

  • Dis Bih Fye I Can’t Wait To My Girl Buy Dis ❤️🥰

  • Thank you PlayStation! Thank you Sony!! The PS5 looks very very user friendly in terms of maintenance and upkeep. November 12th is coming up!! So glad I was able to lock up a pre-order at my local Gamestop.

    See you on launch day!!

  • 2 million views in under 5 hours and nowhere to be seen in YouTube’s trending page. But 2K21’s trailer with under a million views from yesterday is still in it. Super weird how YouTube operates the Trending page.

  • I am a curious, but also a conservative person. when ps4 came out I remember a lot of people who set it aside and continued to play ps3. i never bought the ps4.
currently, after years without play, and picking up my ps3 once again, (still runs great btw) its amazing to see a ton more people who still favor the ps3, or at least an equal amount of both. Out of all my psn friends, i feel like I’m the only one with out ps4.
what stands out the most on ps5, and what seems to be the biggest feature?? this time….? to anyone who cares to share!!

  • I believe that they rushed this system in th market too fast and even though it took them five years. We still need to clear it all out from any big problems and also is it backwards compatible to all games from the Ps 4? And will it work physically to all PS 4 games? Lastly will most anime games be uncensored? Or are they going to be censored? which sadly I prefer the anime games not be censored

  • I’ve been pumped for the latest Console Release, even refused a PS4 for FF7 Remake, I’m happy getting an inside look at this console. Didn’t score one this round, which is fine, there’s plenty to do around here with a remodel, but has anyone heard grumblings about the 2021 street date? I want to try to snag one by August.

  • Stunning the amount of engineering put in for a simple stand!! PS5 is a marvel of pure engineering and industrial design, you rarely see these days. everything carefully thought of.

  • Still waiting to hear if the new updated camera will work with the current PSVR. And if not then how do we go about getting the adapter so we can use our current camera? Glad to see the system hardware but still so many unanswered questions.

  • Is the PS5 capable of downloading PS4 digital games and the save data onto it from the PS Plus cloud?

  • I was somewhat interested but the fact that it’s using an AMD processor really puts me off I won’t be buying one of these for that reason I will continue gaming on my PC which is more powerful and faster.

  • This is awesome. Why am I most impressed by the screw holder and hole cover? ROFL

  • Looks like a very well thought out system to keep cool, really happy

  • Transformative? You guys are totally teasing swappable face plates, right?

    • It does need something more than adding an extra drive to be “the most transformative”.

I mean, the PS2 could do that already..

  • I can’t wait to have the PS5 in my house November can’t come soon enough

  • Everyone has been waiting this teardown. Sony got one more for PS5 before November, the UI.

  • So excited to not take apart my PS5!! 🙌:D 🎉 🎉

  • liquid metal hmm I am afraid a little bit

  • Amazing feat of engineering by the men and women at Sony. The liquid metal cooling system really took me by suprise. 👏

  • Every aspect of PS5 makes LBOX look banal and outdated.

    Big kudos to team Playstation!

  • Arigatou Gozaimasu for the perfect PS5 physically specs reveal teardown! この内訳をありがとうございました☺😊

  • At last. The vid in March with Cerny said the teardown was coming “soon” Didn’t think that meant like 7 moths later, mere weeks before launch.

  • I managed to preorder a PS5 in time but given the small amount of time you have given us after announcing the release date, especially compared to the increased time we had before PS4 released, I am finding it very hard to pay this off before it ships already next month.

I do understand it is now 2020 and not 2013 and the globe has been stymied by this insidious Conholio Sickness (I do not want to use its real nomenclature in this forum), obviously diminishing your abilities to produce enough units for demand, and I am grateful that I was able to secure a first-day unit and that I actually had the $NZ100 non-refundable deposit to make this, but a couple of more months notice so we could lay our preorders down sooner facilitating a wider expanse of time to make weekly payments towards the unit’s final cost in time (it costs $NZ820 here) would have been much, much more welcome. 💙

  • Is it really Rdna 1 with some rdna 2 features added?

  • I wonder how loud it is with that one tini fan

  • I would like to see what options I have to connect ps4 drive to it or how to transfer data, saves etc. And also a showcase of the ux, store, pspluss, ps now, streaming, video recording, capture card possibilities, 3d audio, settings, game boost, and so many more goodies!

  • I know Japanese so I don’t need subtitles. He said “Takimaki lakitaki hakipaki”. Translates to “Buy PS5!”

  • Amazing work, Sony! Now we need the UI :)

  • Wow the size of that heat-sink! good to see the strip down of the ps5 very interesting. It is massive no doubt about that, fairly weighty also can assume.

  • “Disassembling your PS5 console will invalidate your manufacturer’s guarantee.”

Didn’t we go over this with the PS4? More accurately, didn’t you go to court over this?

  • This could of been the turning point for the PS5 to hit the top of the leaderboard but again it falls short with fans who try to get their hands on the new PS5 console

  • What a masterpiece elegant genius teardown beauty the PS5 . Excellence of Sony tech on every parts of PS5 just mind blowing .
I hope Sony release NOW not at the END of PS5 LIFE different panels and controller scheme – color , ps1 symbol style, Spider-Man, or other ps games, order from Sony store engraved our identity, and love to see not just style but the feel of the print sticking out of the surface on both panels of PS5. Black and the Spider-Man fan created was so good.

Lots of YouTuber didn’t notice how LIQUID METAL is new to a console or some other tech using it.

    1-liquid metal is sick
    2-huge fan is wonderful
3-giant heat sink vapor chamber like is crazy
4-WiFi 6 new power who else got this
5-customization on panels and controller…..I’m spending or spraying
    6-stand is awesome
7-Sony switch O to X is the most Not Genuine Genius innovative. X is no O means GO. Japanese is correct & exclusive to Japan this control scheme or make it changeable on buttons setting . Sony don’t Samurai the Real Samurai.
8-Stop preorder… just DUMP all PS5 at the store so no bots can steal it. I’m tired seeing these people suffering.

Sony. .. what a tech quality.. my favorite PS and controller ever, then ps1, 4 /pro,ps2,then ps3. We can’t wait to play.

  • Can u add more Storage

  • Nice design! I like the little details too such as the base screw compartment and the dust ports.

  • Can we please have confirmation of native 1440 output. XBox has revealed this and I see no point in not responding to this question. There are many people who have monitors or are getting monitors and would like an answer to this question. If you do not then at least they would know what to purchase for the PS5, at the moment we are left very much in the dark.
