Demon’s Souls – PS5 gameplay first look

An extended look at the foreboding locales and deadly enemies lurking in Boletaria.

Update: New information about the Digital Deluxe Edition of Demon’s Souls for PS5 has been added to the bottom of this post.

We have been working diligently for almost three years on the legend that is Demon’s Souls. Together with the masters of the remaster Bluepoint Games, we have lovingly crafted this thrilling experience to bring it to stunning new life on PlayStation 5.

Demon’s Souls – PS5 gameplay first look

In Demon’s Souls, we send you back to the fog-ridden kingdom of Boletaria like you’ve never seen it before. Here, death is not the end, and again the challenge seems insurmountable. But this dark world draws you in nonetheless, with its sumptuous sights and chilling sounds. Through the power of haptics, you feel every visceral blow, making even small victories all the sweeter.

It was essential to us that we recreated Demon’s Souls in such a way that longtime fans are transported back to the Boletaria they love. It’s the Boletaria that has been growing and maturing in their imaginations for over a decade. A place where every room, corner, and corridor has a story to tell. Here, the original characters, encounters and battles are brought to life in greater fidelity, making the story even richer and darker.

Even as we went back to the drawing board to build upon the original art, sound, music, and feel, our goal was always to remain true to the vision of the original classic – its story, gameplay and level design. With this in mind, we fine-tuned the title to ensure the game remains fresh and appeals to new users accustomed to modern controls and experiences.

Above all, this is to ensure the lands of Boletaria are living and breathing worlds, home to all manner of terrors, brimming with tension and challenge. In this way, we hope that Demon’s Souls is both parts new and familiar, welcoming to veterans and newcomers alike.

This time, we’re thrilled to bring you an extended look at gameplay, featuring the first challenge you’ll face on your arduous journey – the grotesque demon Vanguard.

  • When this be available to purchase on the play store?

  • Finally, a game I can re-immerse myself in fear of the unexpected as I did in Bloodborne. This should be enough reason for me to buy a PS5!

  • PS5 ONLY game
Sony made a mistake in the presentation. They’ve since corrected that and said it’s only coming to PS5.
FOR THOSE WHO ARE THINKING PS5 GAMES WILL COMES TO PC

If we lived in a world where Sony released all their titles on PC, why would people need to own a Playstation console? Even if only a quarter of their userbase decided they no longer needed a dedicated Sony console as a result, that’s a huge amount of revenue lost from people not spending money in the PSN store, not signing up to services like Playstation Plus and not buying playstation-branded accessories. This is the exact opposite of what Sony wants, they want more people using their services, not less. On top of that they’d be giving 30% of their revenue to Steam.

Jim Ryan was pretty clear on this: “We should be making that IP work a bit harder as an acquisition tool for the PlayStation community”. Herman Hulst said the same: “it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation … We don’t have plans for day and date PC releases, and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.”

So sorry, but what you’re saying doesn’t line up with what Playstation’s higher-ups are saying. Sony has their own ecosystem and services to promote. Releasing some of their older titles on PC is a perfect way to show people why they might want to invest in Sony’s console and the services that go with that.

    • or they slipped up and do not want people now waiting for a pc version they need that £70+ . i wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a pc release next year .remember this is sony who say we want you to go to ps5 new experiences for the community then Miles Morales, Horizon 2 and Sackboy are now ps4 titles. S0… take what they say with a grain of salt becasue they have profits to make back at this difficult time where people are struggling. Unless you work for sony and know 110% that it will never come to pc. so speculate away. people do tell white lies you know or else theres no secrets to announce later.

  • The only Souls game I never played! Can’t wait!

  • I’m ready, pre-ordered and ready to go.

  • Venga cual fanatico de los souls no esperaba este tremendo juego

  • OHHHH MYY GOSHHH this looks incredible I’ve played dark souls 3 blood borne and really loved them never played demon souls heard it was harder but after seeing this game play video this looks incredible I was in Awe truly had dropping that souls mysticism is amazing will deff be checking this out incredible !!💯

  • With each new generation of PlayStation I’d always stumble across that one game which teleports you right into the game world and makes you say this feels like next generation. That’s exactly how I felt when I saw the demon’s souls remake gameplay reveal at the show. And going back seeing the separate trailer at 4K60fps was nothing short of jaw dropping. Can’t wait to get this at launch!

  • i love demon’s souls

  • Who would like to se a THE SUFFERING, remake 👍

  • PS5 THE SUFFERING, remake, remastered, vote 👍

  • I hope and Pray to the good lord above that they have Implemented the password system for co-op

  • Never played a souls game before, this looks perfect one to try first!

  • Would be more interesting if I was able to order a PS5..

  • My question is will the Land of Giants be making it’s debut?

  • Will there be a deluxe upgrade option for Disk users? Will the reaper scythe be for all preordered disk copies of the game, like walmart, bestbuy, amazon etc, or is it only for playstation store?

  • So if I pre-ordered a more expensive bundle which includes the game I miss out on any and all pre-order bonus’? C’mon now…

  • Why is no one talking about how anti-consumer Sony has become to takes items and even weapons out from a Souls game and put it beyond a pre-order wall? I’m disgusted at this practice and Miyazaki would never allow such scrummy business practices.

  • Memed_7 geoff k did mention it on twitter like right after the presentation, i saw his tweet so YOu are wrong.

  • i was looking forward to this ( still am) but $70 is too rich for my blood for a game let alone for a remake/remaster so i’ll be looking forward to when it goes on sale or gets a good discount.

  • When can I pre-order on PlayStation store? I can’t find PS5 games on there anywhere

  • Guys, locking armor sets and weapons that could give unfair edge to players in PvP in the Digital Deluxe Edition is a huge mistake.
Also a slap to the face to fans that want to buy physical games. Hopefully you make these items available in a physical Special Edition as well, or for free in the Standard Edition.
As it stands now, it is unacceptable.

  • So all the items that come with the digital deluxe edition … will it be possible to obtain these items in the game as well? Or can we only get these items from purchasing the dde? Because if the latter is the case, I’m sorry, but that is awful awful awful. What is this, Fortnite, Fallout 76? Are we going to have a cash shop now with skins, weapons, armor, more exclusive souls that come from bosses not in the game?

I mean, Souls game have never been about microtranscation-based instant gratification like you see in the mobile games the little kiddies play. They have always been about just PLAYING the game, overcoming challenges, perseverance. Sure, the game will be there, but things like this are completely at odds with what Fromsoft set out with the original and it sure does ruin the vibe.

  • Hopefully you guys sre working on Demon soul’s part II or at least the DLC from first part that we never got and soon after Demons souls II.
And also join Sony studios and grow bigger to be able to handle two AAA full projects at the same time. I haven’t played your gamed but you guys are nailing it with the remaked of two of the most beloved underrated ips ever made.

  • Serious question: why is the european price higher than the US price? Aren’t they supposed to be equal or very close in price when both converted to US dollars? As it is, Demon Souls is priced at $116 in Europe compared to $89.99 in the US. That’s quite the increase.

  • Is it available for playstation 4 pro as well? 😬

  • Will there be a separate purchasable digital upgrade for Demon’s Souls PS5’s Digital Deluxe content for all of those physical disc users?
Don’t like the thought of content becoming exclusive to digital game purchasers only.
I’m one of those players that likes to collect 1 of every armor/weapon in the game.

Either that, or a physical version of the Deluxe edition as well…

  • $70 for a remake? I love demon souls but nah ill wait a year or so then buy it, you can literally get 3 fully remade crash games or spyro for under 60, not paying 70 for any game, ray tracing doesn’t make the price worth it

Tony hawk 1 + 2 are also fully remade with tons of extras, guess what? $40 at launch, get out of here with this price raise, especially on an old game

I’ve owned every sony console, i had ps4 day 1, but at this rate i might go the pc route and get xbox game pass on it

  • Looks likes there’s 2 game mode on this, native 4k and performance. 4k should be at least 60fps. Digital foundry says that this runs 1440p 60 fps on performance mode that means 4k will be 30fps? This will be a disappointment if it is.
