Players’ Choice: Final Fantasy VII Remake Voted April’s Best New Game

PS Blog readers celebrated Square Enix's masterful retelling of the JRPG classic, catapulting it to the top of the polls and earning it a Players' Choice award.

Final Fantasy VII Remake clearly struck a chord with fans worldwide last month, securing a resounding win in April’s Players’ Choice poll. Square Enix’s ambitious reimagining brought in nearly three-fourths of the total votes, while Resident Evil 3 and Streets of Rage 4 filled out the top three for the month.

Welcome back! April 2020 saw the return of familiar franchises like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil 3, Trials of Mana… hell, even Streets of Rage snuck in at the very end of the month with its first new game in over 25 years! But don’t let the big names steal all the attention — smaller experiences like Biped, Moving Out, Below, and Telling Lies are worth your time, too.

We’ll keep the polls open until Sunday, May 10 at 11:59pm Pacific this time, so get those votes in before then. Let us know who you voted for in the comments!

How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation.Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. Soon thereafter, we’ll close the polls, tally your votes, and announce the winner at PlayStation.Blog. PlayStation Store will also showcase some top Players’ Choice winners throughout the year.

What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? In keeping with our long tradition in the Game of the Year Awards, remastered or re-released games won’t qualify. Ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will.

How are nominees decided? The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. Write-in votes will be accepted.

    FFVIIR all the way

  • For me it was definitely Final Fantasy VII Remake, and I’m still enjoying this amazing experience.

  • I want the part 2!!!

  • Voted for FF7R but damn if I could I would have voted RE3 and SOR4, all three of them have made April amazing!

  • My vote is Final Fantasy VII Remake. No contest.

Hands down FF7 Remake. Now I know I’m not alone when I say this but, REMAKE ALL OF THEM, and you can have my wallet for the foreseeable future.

  • FF7 baby square Enix did amazing job cannot wait for part 2 my game of year so far

  • Streets of Rage 4 has been just so much fun it’s a classic that has come back to life even after getting my platinum I’m still going back Just to master the game on harder difficulty.

  • Hi Sony, what happened to PlayStation home, I was hoping for infamous first light or Assassins creed origins or Assassins creed Odyssey or God of war2018

  • Hi Sony, where’s the PlayStation now cards in stores, they’re hard to find

  • If RE3 wins anything I’m not sure what to make of that tbh.

  • My Top 3 games so far of the year

    1: Final Fantasy 7 Remake
    2: Streets of Rage 4
    3: Resident Evil 3 Remake

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake for sure, such a great game!

  • Want that so much very love world it vote for FF7 Remake please !!

  • Evilmonkey198069

I will pick Resident Evil 3. They changed too much of Final Fantasy 7 Remake should be Final Fantasy 7 redone and I really hate that they put Kindgom Hearts stupid destiny crap in my Final Fantasy 7. All I can do now is hope for a Final Fantasy 7 Remaster.

  • arab_king_of_uae

I’m voting for resident evil 3 because it was a good game in past

  • arab_king_of_uae

I like resident evil 3 it was so much fun when I was small

  • I’m going to vote FF7 Remake. And I do more expect to the part two release date

  • It had to be FF7, so many people have waited for so long.

  • Even just a trailer for part 2, cinematic or otherwise would be enough to tip me over the edge for getting a PS5 at launch.

  • I didn’t even know about this poll until it was too late, but man, it sounds like my pick didn’t need my help anyway. LOL Considering FF 7 Remake might be my favorite game in over a decade, let ALONE this month, yeah. That would have been a no brainer choice, despite all of the other great April offerings. What a stacked month of top shelf releases!
