PS4 System Software Update 7.00 Launches This Week

Featuring new Party and Remote Play enhancements.

Our latest software update for PlayStation 4, version 7.00, is launching this week worldwide. This update includes new functionality to key system features including Party and Remote Play features.

We revealed a number of features included in the newly enhanced Party prior to its beta earlier this summer, and here are all of the details that PS4 players can look forward to experiencing.

Party Feature Update

For PS4 fans who love to play alongside their friends or other community members, the Party feature has been rebuilt to include new features and services including:

  • Maximum number of Party users increased from 8 to 16
  • Network connectivity improved
  • Audio quality improved
  • Accessibility support with Chat Transcription has been added (US Only)

Within the Party feature, you will experience better network connectivity and audio quality. The improved back-end now improves network connectivity and allows users to overcome connectivity issues previously experienced when connecting with other users.

Lastly, the Party App will also offer a new Chat Transcription feature for US users via the PS4 Second Screen App on your smartphone or other mobile devices. The new feature supports US English and converts party voice chat to text, or enables you to enter text that is read aloud to other party members. If using your mobile device to connect to your PS4 during a Party, you will now see a new Party tab has been added where the new functionality is available.

Remote Play

For those who want to stream select PS4 games on mobile devices, Remote Play can now be used on smartphones and tablets running Android 5.0 or higher. Just download the PS4 Remote Play App from the Google Play store to use the feature.

Meanwhile, for iPhone or iPad users, the Remote Play App has been updated so you can now display the controller at all times and lock the screen orientation.

Also, players will be able to use their DualShock 4 wireless controllers via Bluetooth for Remote Play on an Android, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All you need to do is update to Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, or macOS Catalina (releasing in October) to use this feature.

As a reminder, a PS4 system with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended.

    DualShock 4 wireless controllers via Bluetooth only supported on Android 10?!?!?!? Are you kidding?!?!?!? What an absolutely useless update. Thanks for nothing Sony.

    Why is the new transcript feature in the second screen app only available to US users? This is by far the most useless update if you are not in the US!!! I think it’s time to buy an Xbox!

    I have a note 8 and it still tells me my device isn’t compatible for this app….. I have been waiting on this forever it feels like. Anyone else having this problem

      That seems really odd…I don’t have any controller support but I’m able to at least install the app and stream on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, which is running Android 5.1.1. But without DualShock 3 or 4 support it might as well not be working at all… :-(

      Yes me because I have android 9 and android 10 will be available for my phone in March.. , DS4 is only supported in android 10

    after this update i am facing issue with voice party. some times my voice changed as robot and sometimes my friends told me that they can not hear me but i can hear them. this issue i am facing only after this update. kindly fix it ASAP.

    Unable to update PS4 to 7.00 from 6.72 either via internet or USB in safe mode . Error SU-30625-6 .Tried updating multiple times without result . All network features are disabled as a result .

    Sony Pl roll back or patch this update.

    One feature they have not mentioned in this post is that they actually added an in depth hdr calibration adjustment to the settings display menu which is fantastic!

    Only Android 10 for the compatibility with DS4… this is crazy… Most of the Android users are still on 8 and 9 builds… My galaxy S8 is only 2y old and will probably not be updated to Android 10 (i know i shouldn’t go for Samsung if i want to be up-to-date don’t throw stones at me…) But please SONY, I enjoyed a lot remote play with the DS4 attached to my Xperia Z3 back in the days, is it that much to ask to give to the most of your users the possibility to enjoy your services ? Thanks in advance for giving other versions of Android access to the DS4.

    @Sid, I’m going to do my best here not to be a jerk, but I have to call this typical Sony nonsense out. First, Sony brings Remote Play to iOS devices for 6 months and leaves Android users out in the cold. Then finally, this week Sony brings Remote Play to Android devices running version 5.0 and up, but doesn’t include ANY DualShock 3/4 or (wired or wireless) for anything but devices running Android 10. Don’t you see what is wrong with this picture? It’s impossible to play any modern PS4 game with just touch-screen controls, not to mention impractical because your fingers obscure the screen. What was the point of coming so close to getting it right only to fail in such dramatic fashion?

    I even did a test with my Samsung Android Tablet (which is several years old now) and my LG G8 smartphone (which is less than a year old, running Android 9). Both devices run Remote Play flawlessly on screen, but I have no way of playing any games without using the horrid touchscreen controls. This is DESPITE being able to connect my DualShock 4 DIRECTLY to my LG G8 and use the directional pad, touch pad and buttons with the phone’s interface. This isn’t just ridiculous, it’s downright laughable.

    Thank goodness I can still use Remote Play my Vita and PC. Come on, Sony. Do it right. Bring DualShock 3/4 support (wired and wireless) for Android devices running 5.0 and up so that this feature will actually be usable by a majority of Android users out there. Otherwise, what was the point in doing this in the first place?!?

      I’m also going to add that I am also an Xbox user (I’m an avid user of both Sony and Microsoft platforms and I’m very interested to see how Microsoft implements Project X-Cloud and console streaming. As far as the latter is concerned, at this moment moment Sony has a huge console streaming advantage over Microsoft in that PS4 Remote Play already works on a number of devices (Vita, PC, iOS and now Android), but clearly the feature is far from perfect and leaves a lot to be desired. Is Sony truly content to to just rest on their laurels here and wait for Microsoft’s streaming platforms to come out before actually trying to make this feature work as it should?!?!?

    I tried connecting my DS4 to my Galaxy S10E with a USB cable and it said “you can’t use the DualShock 4 in Remote Play because your device doesn’t support it.”

    Is the DS4 not supported through USB on Android?

    I guess I’ll have to switch to iPhone. They always get the newest updates and features.

    So I downloaded this new update and was well until the Flickering started, sure my tv isnt the greatest but I’ve never had this problem, now I have to run my resolution at 1080p, I have a Samsung 6900 55″ it should do 4k and HDR very well and I mean my xbox doesn’t have an issue, so why all of sudden thanks to a new update I have a flickering screen. Please find a fix, and shortly after this update the software did have me adjust some HDR features. Crims21 on a PS4pro, well at this point semi-pro

    The fact that you cannot choose to turn Chat Transcription off seems very Orwellian. I can choose to not share my voice, but now anyone can use the Second Screen app to record what is being said in party chat? It makes me feel like Big Brother is watching.

    Please push an update that allows transcription to be turned off when creating a party.

    I just bought my PS4 less than a week ago and then 7.00 update came out, It totally bricked my system!

    Every time the update tries to install it fails, so I learn about the safe mode and try to install it there. Same thing, it fails. Only now I’m caught in an endless restart/fail loop.

    So then I download the update manually on my thumbdrive, end the restart/fail loop and try that – same error.

    So I go to initialize the system and that worked, but just got me right back to square one (infinte failing updates on the 6.72 software version).

    Well, now I guess I have to wipe my system and start over. Not sure if my Playstation plus membership automatically backed up my saves or not. Luckily I’m less than a week into any games I played.

    So I go to re-initialize the entire system and it restarts. Guess the first thing it tires…the update! And guess what…the update fails!

    So, be weary if you’re prompted to install this update and it fails. Playstation support won’t be much help either – they only give you a robot to chat with and who knows when their support center is open. Pretty sure I’m going to have to ship in my box and get it fixed thanks to this awesome new update.

    Ever since the update to 7.0 I can connect to parties with my friends but I am unable to talk with any of them, they can talk with themselves but say I just have a little speaker symbol instead of a mic in party chat window, and for me everyone else has the speaker icon and only I have the mic icon. I’ve reinstalled update and still nothing. This sucks.

      Mine is doing the same I was told that I needed to change port numbers on the router (which is extremely hard) this is very ridiculous!

    For a ’round’ version like 7.0 I find this changelog pretty weak.
    Plus, the only feature I ever want is to be able to remove that 1% Game Trophy from a game I will never play again.

    Hey guys, I just updated to the 7.00 and now I can no longer log into PSN, every time I put in my password I get an error has occurred. I can log into the PSN with my PS Vita and on my android as well as my windows desktop, but not my PS4

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      BTW I’ve tried port forwarding, restarting, changing the Ethernet cable, switching to WiFi, I run a connection test and i can connect to the internet through the PS4 it just wont connect to the PSN

      Same problem here. I also tried all those YouTube tutorials that show you how to change the DNS but nothing is working. I contacted my internet provider and everything is working fine on their end.

    It’s sad that we can’t use the DS4 on lower Android versions I mean I can connect my DS4 via Bluetooth but the app just won’t accept it I hope that Sony update the software soon so we could use the DS4 on lower Android versions other wise no one would really use the app I hope they would see our comments and really do it

      Android 10 was released september the 10th so remote play is now for Google Pixel users and a fex other ones… 0.0000001% of global smartphone users… :(

    Anyone else having problems connecting ps4 to a hotspot with active data and not get an internet connection from A stylo 4? It connects to the hotspot but says it has no internet connection even though it had internet connection 4 days ago. Started happening after this update and my stylo 4 updated same day and phone says it’s on update 8.1.0

    Green Screen?

    It may be just a coincidence, but after the update it seems my green screen stopped working correctly. When i turn on chroma key the green screen is filled with thousands of tiny black dots. When i brighten the room more some go away, but still doesn’t work as greens screen still shows screen not game background.

    Do the PS4 cameras go bad because i do have the original one from when PS4 came out. I do have my original PS4 also which i maintain a lot and keep clean inside and out.

    This is not a big deal to me because i can still use camera without green screen.

    Thanx and any replies on this would be nice. PS4 and soon PS5 fan boy for life. Cralin

    The update is terrible I am having to reprogram my system every day and losing all my saved data and can’t redownload any of my games since every time I redownload my game I have to reprogram my system PlayStation needs to fix it I am losing out on my game play and I am getting tiered of reprograming and redownloading and resigning in every time

    So since the Facebook removal form sony.
    1. My friend can or access his account. Says reset password but consistently get error with no code attached.
    2. I cannot hear a specific friend anymore. No NAT type but the icon for the speaker in chat just flashes. Yes I’ve tried a lot.

    People moaning they can’t usual the dualshock pads on their old phones, my guess is the dualshock connection isn’t a limitation of the PS Remote play software but the OS itself (BT Stack/Profiles) this is why you need a newer os, Sony have probably giving Google official drivers for native support in the OS. If thats the case this could be very good for other software like emulation, etc.

    It has always been a been hit and miss if you can usu dualshocks on your devices, many times you had to root it.

    After installing the 7.00 update on my PS4 Pro, my VR setup drifts and makes the VR games unplayable. I’ve tried with the aim controller in Farpoint, the move controllers with Beat Saber and the dual shock controller where you can move the controller to select letters on the virtual keyboard.

    My attempts to fix:
    Recalibrated the camera, recalibrated the controllers, rebooted system and tried recalibrating again and tried turning the move controllers on in a different order.

    Is there anyway to back off the 7.00 update? I’ve been searching for this little trick and I can’t find anything. I can live without the stuff that 7.00 brings to the console, but I really want to use my VR setup.

    Thank you in advance for any suggestions and solutions.

    I love that my phone can now use Remote play on Android 9 but without DS4 functionality via bluetooth to play my games more efficiently is just bogus. I don’t want to buy a new phone for that.

    After update my Dualshock 4 v2 started to disconnect. Until the update was not.
    I took two more Dualshock 4 v2 And the situation has not changed

    Please correct this error!

    Wow Sony! 16 player party chat is apparently future proofing for PS5, I can have up to 100 player party chat through discord on virtually any device apart from yours for FREE. What a joke! Also, thanks for quietly removing PS4 to PS Vita party chat with this so called update, even though your still releasing new games for the Vita. I can no longer chat with my friends when I’m away with work over PSN so we have all jumped ship to discord. Probably won’t be buying a PS5 as I’m struggling to justify the cost of PSN anyway considering Steam gives you far more features for FREE!!!!

    Sony I think you should make an uodate were any anderoid can use the daushlock 4 becuase whenever i connect my controller it always glitches out for the playststion app crossplay
