PS Plus: Free Games for September

inFamous Second Son & Strike Vector EX headline next month's lineup, along with a special bonus for PS VR owners.

Greetings PlayStation Nation and welcome to another PlayStation Plus update, this time for September 2017. This month is all about action, featuring inFamous: Second Son and Strike Vector Ex.

inFamous: Second Son is a fresh, open-world action-adventure story in the popular inFamous series. Set years after the initial installments, you’ll play as Delsin Rowe who unexpectedly discovers his own superhuman powers and must choose how to use them in a world where superhumans are now feared.

Next up is Strike Vector Ex, a competitive first-person aerial combat game. Choose a ship and get your blood pumping in one of the many game modes. Strike Vector EX is designed with new console-based controls and upgraded with new features and modes for PS4.

Update: An earlier version of this post featured an incorrect version of the September lineup. We have updated the list below with the final lineup for September.

RIGS is a first-person arena-based shooter developed from the ground up for PS VR. Set in the year 2065, it immerses players in an intense, all-action future sport that mixes elements from different athletic fields like combat sports, motorsports, basketball and football.

For those of you who don’t have PlayStation VR yet, we just announced a new PS VR bundle that includes PlayStation Camera for $399 USD (MSRP) / $499 CAD (MSRP). Also, the existing PlayStation VR Worlds bundle (PS VR headset, PS Camera, two PlayStation Move motion controllers and PlayStation VR Worlds) is getting a lower price of $449 USD (MSRP) / $579 CAD (MSRP). With more than 100 games available, it’s never been a better time own PS VR.

Also this month, PlayStation Plus members will be able to play Dead by Daylight from September 15 through 18 for free. Afterwards, members can save 30% on the game with an exclusive discount until September 22.

In the free-to-play realm, starting September 19 members can grab a Neverwinter Plus pack in celebration of their newest update: Tomb of Annihilation. The pack includes VIP time, a panther companion, and more. The Neverwinter Plus pack is available until October 16.

As a reminder, That’s You! is available as a free download (as is the Companion App, which you’ll need to download to your device to play) for all PlayStation Plus members through October 23, so if you haven’t checked out the game yet, now is your chance.

And there you have it! See you next month.

*PlayStation 4 system, PlayStation VR, and PlayStation Camera are required to experience VR functionality.

  • Hmm! New to me. Just got a PS4 so these game are a nice free incentive.

  • I’m sorry, but this Handball 2016 looks like garbage. I couldn’t find any metacritic reviews for the PS3 version, but the 1 user review for the ps4 version pretty much nails it down to a 0. This game looks like absolute trash. And I’m fine with getting unknown gems now and then, as a daily VITA user, I’m kind of used to it frankly, but I’ve never seen something that low.

I remember when PlayStation PLUS started on PS3 there was a quality review standard of 70/100 (or something like that) or higher. But when I see something that might get a 12/100, that’s pathetic. Even going solely on playstation store sales and reviews it has 2 stars…You almost never see titles that low, and those are only from people who purchased the game. Those are from people who wanted it.

I expect this title to go way down, and is such a waste of space that could have been better served by a PS1/PS2 game even. None of this garbage should be allowed. It lessens the quality of PLUS as a whole.

    • I agree that PS3 games falls short in terms of quality. Last year there was still some good games but recently only garbage, each month worse than the previous. I regret renewing my PS Plus signature.

It would be more honest if SONY announced that is stopping releasing PS3 games though PS PLUS!

  • Why even bother including PS3 titles through Plus anymore? There was a time when Plus was amazing for PS3 owners but that time has long passed and any quality titles on sale appear mostly in the monthly flash sale, which imo should include much more psOne classics, since no seems to be keen on the fact that PS4 is the only Sony system incapable of playing them. Probably trying to figure out how you’re going to justify charging existing owners twice just like you’re doing with PS2 classics.

  • Glad Hatoful Boyfriend on there. I have it for the PS4, but glad other people get to play that wacky game.

Strike Vector Ex, looks like it will be a lot of fun

    • I know ps3 games need to get discontinued sure there isn’t a huge amount of people still downloading those games.

  • Switching the games up on us after posting? I can’t believe the ineptitude of you guys at PS as of late. The only game I was actually kind of hyped for was Sky Force Anniversary, which I probably wouldn’t buy if it was a dollar but for free I’ll give it a try. Then you take that away with others and give us…what is this? HATOFUL BOYFRIEND!? GTFO

  • WOW… an XBox Live Gold March 2014 MSRP 19.99$ free game (Infamous : Second Son) and an XBox Live Gold March 2015 MSRP 14.99$ free game (Child of Light).

Luckily I have a PSVR and will be enjoying RIGS… all the rest is old crappy stuff.

    • Infamous Second Son on Xbox One? Really? Jeez

    • I’m…I’m not even sure what you are…

In March 2014 these were the two XBL GwG games(XB1 Games were not offered at this point btw):
      -Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution
      -Dungeon Defenders

In March 2015 these were the two XBL GwG games:
      -Tomb Raider
      -Bioshock: Infinite
      -Rayman Legends

Child of Light was April 2015

InFamous: Second Son is from a SONY 1st Party Studio, Sucker Punch, and is exclusive to the PS4. It is not available on any other platform. It did however launch on the PS4 in March 2014, so maybe your brain mixed that one up somewhere.

So either you’re just being annoying on purpose to whomever comes across this, or you truly are deluded. Either way…Still shocked you bothered.

  • inFamous: Second Son is a great game! I’m patiently waiting to see what Sucker Punch Productions does next.

  • PS4 games are great, ps3 and vita not so much…

  • Rigs is one of the best titles out for PSVR. I really love that Sonys
first move adding vr games to ps plus is with such an epic and strong title. It’s akin to when they gave out Rocket League. It’s an excellent game and everyone should add it to their library in case you do ever pull the trigger on PSVR. The game is worth it!

  • I was looking forward to Child of Light the most. hopefully we will get it in the future.

  • What The Hell Sony?!? The original line up I seen earlier today had me excited for this months Plus Line Up then i check it tonight to find nearly everything replaced with absolute GARBAGE….TRUCK RACER, HATOFUL BOYFRIEND, AND HANDBALL everything i seen of their gameplay looks like absolutely atrocious. We Are Doomed looks like Geometry Wars bastard child.

This is spitting in the face of subscribers. I normally don’t complain about the line up ,but this time is ridiculous . How do we go from such a great line up earlier today to this…..come on TRUCK RACER ,AND HANDBALL REALLY SONY REALLY!! Has your bar for quality on this service hit that low. You figure you force people into using this service because it’s the only way to play online that you can just throw whatever garbage at us you want. ugh

  • i actually want god of war 3 for the next month pleaaase

  • inFamous Second Son is one of my favorite early PS4 games. Glad more people will get to finally play it. Speaking of which, why hasn’t anyone heard anything about what Sucker Punch is working on since First Light released more than 3 years ago now.

  • Why’d y’all take away those awesome vita games? I was looking forward to sky force anniversary. Dating pigeons is a sad replacement.

  • It’s cool about the newest Infamous being added. I didn’t too much care for the first Infamous (I seem to be in the minority there, but that’s alright lol) so I never played the second one after. But I’ll give this one a shot (hopefully I don’t NEED to play the second installment in order to enjoy it).

Gotta say, however, as good as that PS4 title looks, I’m kinda bummed about the PS3 lineup. Seems like I’m bummed every month about the PS3 lineup, actually. So many great games on there (some of which we CAN’T get on PS4) and we rarely ever get them. I also agree with the guy who mentioned adding PS1 and PS2 titles to the lineup, that would be great.

    • Yes, Infamous SS and the first 2 are basically different stories; Second Son just follows the aftermath of Infamous 2. It really changes the tone of the series, so I’m sure you might enjoy it even if you didn’t like Infamous 1 as much.

  • they really need to offer alts or credits or maybe a rental to those who do not play online, and or already own said games. more choice please.

  • Man, these past few months have been a blast. Thanks for Just Cause 3, Until Dawn, and now Infamous: Second Son! I’ve been waiting to buy that last one for a little while, and this is just perfect for me. Keep this up, please!

  • RIGSSSSSS!!!! Hell Yes, free PS VR games! : D

  • AAAAAAYYEEEEEEEE a game i wanted to play but never felt like buying because it wasn’t a must have. wanted to play infamous but it was never on my radar because i stick to rpgs mostly so getting this free will be great.

  • Second son is an awesome game, good choice. But why would you tease me with Hue and Sky Force for Vita only to replace it with a boring looking pigeon game?

  • PS Plus Asia got Child of Light last month so hoping they will do the same with NA.

  • Didn’t we already have infamous second son free before? Or was it the one with the chick, either way not excited at all for this lineup. Especially compared to what Xbox is having free.

  • Sky Force got me so excited!! now things changed :(

  • I may be the minority here but I only bought into the PlayStation ecosystem last Christmas. I feel bad for those who already purchased the games they give for free, but every single month my family finds a game we absolutely love that we would have never tried. Torquel, tales from the borderlands, game of thrones, assassin’s Creed, just cause 3, and we even get a lot of play time with lovers in a dangerous space time and orcs must die. The $60 I paid for ps+ might be the best entertainment purchasing decision I’ve made in a long time. So I’m sorry to those who are unhappy, but I am excited to try out all these new (to me) games.

  • an okay month i suppose, i already have hatoful boyfriend on steam and have already owned infamous second son, id like to see some more vita exclusives again. i really miss the anime visual novels being part of ps plus

  • Infamous is an incredible game, but I already Platinumed it (if that’s a word :P)

  • Firewatch please

  • Dammit. I wanted Sky Force.

  • Idiots, they just gave us a third person open world game that nobody cares about… Again

  • Infamous, really ? How many people does not have it? This is number 1 title for PS4 users and first normal PS4 game, when system was released. This is too late to give this in 2017, when almost everyone have it. How many times this game was on sale with -75% discount ? It even was on sale with -75% again few weeks ago!
And again this “That’s You” garbage…

  • Free PS VR title for US and Canada and what for the rest of the World? Being a psvr owner and plus subscriber gets more annoying day by day jest because of those stupid acts. I really wonder if anything will be done to compensate this for european subscribers

  • You know what I was stoked to see what was free next month until this revised bulls#$t happened. I have been waiting over a year for infamous to be free. Strike vector ex looks like it might be cool with a nice soundtrack and hue looked like an awesome puzzle game. The I was stoked for sky force anniversary because it reminded me of the Raiden X games. Then what do I see you scratch those two cross-buys for were all doomed and a f@#$ing bird dating simulator!!!!! Are you serious!!!!!! You had it right the first time then you f$#@ed it up. What a disappoint!

  • Great month Many Thanks for the PSVR Game!! inFamous Second Son is a excelent game I have on Disc, I will pick up the digital title for disc free play. I haven’t seen it on the PSPRO yet and looking foward to it now.

  • What about for countries outside of the USA and Canada like Australia and the UK? Will we get VR games in the PSPlus lineup in months to come?

  • Personally, I feel like they should add some quality games for ps4: Tekken 7, Sonic Mania, Overwatch, The crash bandicoot remake, nioh, and assassin’s creed 4. for ps3: Batman: Arkham City/Origins, Black Ops II & World at War, Assassin’s creed 1-3, star wars: the firce unleashed (1 & 2 + dlc)

  • Free games :) I won’t complain. thank you Sony

  • I was really hoping Child of Light was in the US as well.

  • I almost bought these two games, I was waiting for a sale, but thanks Sony keep adding this kind of titles.

  • besides the Batman series inFamous is one of my favorite game series… I hope they remaster the PS3 games and bundle them like Bioschock.

  • Good line up for PS4, but disappointed we are now not getting Sky Force Anniversary as advertised previously, but instead some daft pigeon based nonsense.

  • I platted Infamous second son. 3 years and 4 months ago. Guess i’ll give Strike vector ex, a shot see what it’s all about.

  • what happened with the other lineup? will we be getting those games in the future? kinda bummed about Sky Force :(

  • I already have the inFamous, but it’s great to see less indies on ps4! I’m getting my expectations with ps+ up again!

  • I can see why people may-be upset at this line up. I never bought second son, only because I knew it would drop for free at some point, glad I waited it out. The dlc standalone game for ss was actually one of my first free ps plus games for PS4 so I then anticipated they would treat SS the same. Also .. this line up gives me a reason to crank up the long forgotten PS3 as i have always been curious about these handball games, but not curious enough to actually want to drop $ for them. All in all.. for me personally great drop, my only remark is Please don’t abandon the vita anytime soon! I know how Sony likes to move on. But I have the limited baby blue edition, i can’t put down.I love showing off to friends when they come over. Keep giving me games to show off ;)

  • Oh. I bought Second Son like 3 weeks ago. Tears.

  • Drop ps3 already

  • So glad to see a PSVR game join the list. I already have Rigs, but I’m hoping this is a sign of more VR offerings going forward!

  • Oooh, I just got PS VR recently, it’ll be nice to try out Rigs.

  • I was super excited about this line up when it was first announced. InFamous is one of my favorite series. I really liked the look of Strike Vector and the Sky Force games too. I was especially excited about Sky Force as the game was gorgeous and I like shmups.

Then I see the updated list.

So instead of getting the awesome shmup I get…a pigeon dating simulator!?

    Really, Sony?

Why do you that to me? This is the first line up I was excited about through and through for MONTHS.

*Sigh… At least I can enjoy the two PS4 titles…

  • Glad to hear RIGS is being included as a bonus this month. I bought a PSVR headset at launch but had too many tracking issues and ended up returning it. If more VR games are free for Plus members each month, I may have to give it a try again and pick up one of the new bundles.
