New Channels, Additional Lineup Change Coming to PlayStation Vue

We have some new updates about PlayStation Vue to share with you today. First, we’re happy to announce the addition of new channels to PlayStation Vue, including BBC America and NBA TV launching tomorrow, as well as VICE and more local broadcast stations from CBS and Fox coming soon.

Additionally, starting at 12:01am Eastern Time on November 11, all Viacom-owned networks will no longer be available on PlayStation Vue. This includes channels such as Comedy Central, Spike, and MTV. At PlayStation, we always strive to provide the best value and service for our fans. As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans.

It’s been quite a busy year for us since launching ESPN, ABC and other Disney-owned networks; we have expanded the service nationwide, added highly requested channels such as NFL Network and HBO, and introduced new PS Vue enabled devices such as Roku, Android TV and web support for PC and Mac. As demonstrated by the new channels announced today, we will continue to expand the PlayStation Vue service by adding devices and networks that are highly requested by our fans.

PlayStation Vue subscribers will continue to enjoy the popular features that make the service unique, such as simultaneous streaming and cloud-based DVR. We are continuing to add value and flexibility with multiple plan options to choose from, as well as a la carte options such as recent additions of HBO and Cinemax.

Remember that there is no long-term commitment required for any PlayStation Vue plan. You can visit www.psvue.com for more information.

We want to thank all of you for your continued support, and we look forward to all that’s ahead.

  • I’ve been nothing but ecstatic about your service, to finally be able to get superior IP based TV with no contract and even gotten a few of my friends make the switch from cable. I would like to continue doing business with Sony rather than the big cable company monopolies but to cut out Viacom content w/o even offering it as an ancillary package like the movie channels is just crazy. Comedy Central is one of the few channels I consistently watch, I’d be happy w/ 20 channels I chose to be honest and CC is on my top 3 and certainly a deal breaker to not have. Please put it back in the lineup, create a new package with it, offer it as an add-in package or I’ll have to start shopping around for another service. Google’s new service is looking quite promising right about now.

BTW your main page is still showing all the Viacom channels which is very misleading and borderline dishonest to unwary new customers

  • Losing Comedy Central is a deal breaker with me. It’s too bad. I really enjoyed your service.

  • I’ve been a subscriber since the nation wide launch, this will be my last month, if I wanted local channels I’d hook up an antenna, if I wanted sports I’d go to a bar

  • Give me an option to pay for these channels, Reduce the rate to make up for the 9% of channel loss. Give me a pro rated refund to reflect my channel loss.

  • If you are removing so many channels then lower the damn price to reflect what we are actually getting now

  • Actually the local channels you arent adding as a courtesy, the FCC requires all carriers to now add it to their lineups. Its state sponsored 24-7 propoganda. Vice TV I can live with but NBA TV doesnt show any games…and I frequently watch MTV, VH1 and Comedy central. This more than likely will be my final month

  • Sony is still showing Viacom channels on their website and hasn’t sent any emails to customers. That’s kinda of deceitful.I won’t miss Nickelodeon but people with children will and that will probably cost them a lot of customers.I wonder if they will last long, not a good sign for a new streaming service. They’re supposed to get better as they go along ,not worse.

  • Im so pissed about this.I don’t give a crap about BBC America or nba. Im losing a lot of my shows. Im a pathetic loser with no reason to live. TV makes me happy but now I can’t watch tosh, south park, impastor, king of queens, roseanne, full house, gangland, and nick cartoons when I was a kid. Now one of the few things I have gets taken away. I hate my life

  • I just signed up 4 days ago, and this happens. Not good.

  • I been a playstation vue custumer since the day it came out in Chicago il. More than a year ago, i am very upset all Viacom channels are being removed, Sony you just became another useless cable company. i really like the dvr but i dont think i will be a loyal customer anymore. in that case i should just get an antena and watch free tv. YOU ARE A REAL DISAPOINTMENT!

    • I really don’t understand all of your ranting about Sony being garbage. Sony isn’t the one that pulled the channels, Viacom was. VIacom demanded a higher fee and sony refused to pay it. The same way that Viacom tried to do the same thing to Optimum and had their channels taken off air for several weeks because they were in negotiations for a new contract. In this time frame, did Optimum lower my rates because some channels were removed? No, they didn’t… why? Because you’re paying for the service as a whole and not just for a handful of channels that may or may not be there. if you do not like the service and think that it’s an inferior product, then simply cancel your service and go spend $200 a month on the triple play package with your cable provider. Do i think you would do this? No, I don’t… why? Because, just like me, you’re here for the cheap rate and regardless of what channels are added or removed… like everyone else will still be around because of the lower price.

BTW… if all that you’re worried about are Viacom channels. For $20 a month, you can watch them on SlingTV but then you will probably complain about all of the channels that Sling doesn’t have compared to PS Vue.

    • It’s not necessarily Sony’s fault, but rather Viacom’s. At any time Viacom felt like it, it could have just packed it’s bags without so much as warning, their the one holding the ball.(which they just did) Think of as like this. Imagine for a moment you’re in kindergarten and it’s show and tell. Let’s say.. a rich kid brought a bunch of newest cool toys. Naturally, everyone wants to play with them. So of course, you ask… can I play with them too. But then they reply… You’re not my one of friends, I don’t you. So you beg… please, can’t I play with them. So then they say… Alright, but I’ll take them back if my friends ask for them.

Kids are mean, spoiled kids even more so.

Oh yeah.. Trump won the presidency on the 8th, didn’t he. Just saying.

  • You still have them listed as part of your plans. How not on top of things are you and your team? Anyone signing up right now that does not read this blog has no idea a good chunk of those channels are not in the service any longer.

How about you actually tell us what happened. Are you negotiating? Give us some hope… It must be something in the water at Sony where they can not just be up front about stuff. Seems to be a theme.. .. Thanks so much for evaluating the value and giving us value on top of value so more value can take place in Sony Value land.

  • I would appreciate if they asked for our opinion in this matter. Maybe if you added Viacom as a al a carte package for an additional whatever. But taking away the option completely and charging the same price is ridiculous. My girlfriend was excited when you annouched you would offer VH1 tv. This is my last month with vue and it sucks. Sorry guys. Let me know when you figure this ish out.

  • When my cable provider dropped viacom like ps vue has it offered subs as channels… I could care less about most channels but an easy kid fix would be to transition sprout to all of your packages… I can’t see paying $15 more for the elite pkg for one channel… Is this something being considered? It seems only fair

  • PS vue is still awesome. My wife is excited about BBC. Viacom channels don’t interest me anyway. The DVR is amazing for the price. $35 for every channel I want and NFL network now too? PS vue will be complete once the rest of the local channels are live streaming in the boston area. They added NESN too recently. I am watching bruins, red sox, and celtics live now. 10/10. PS vue rocks.

  • Really disappointed in how this was communicated to customers, i.e. not communicated at all. Instead, it’s just posted here as if that’s enough. We don’t watch all of these channels, but CC and Spike were two we did.

While I won’t be cancelling immediately over this, I do echo the same feelings that others have over the pricing structure. Losing this many channels and adding a fraction is a poor business model. People who use this service want more options, and I hope these channels return without needing to change tiers or add a package.

  • PlayStation Vue customers will no longer be able to watch any of Viacom’s networks, which include Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, VH1, Spike, and others.

This is going to change a lot. What seemed to be a good priced package just lost a lot of what made it a good deal. I’m with others in the fact that it is time to start shopping again for another streaming provider. This will be a huge blow to Playstation Vue

  • That’s fine with me, screw Viacom. My kids don’t really know or watch the vue. They know we have it, but they usually use Netflix or Hulu for their cartoons. The vue we have for mainly my wife and I, I thoroughly enjoy, also since I’m not a teenage girl, I could care less about MTV. Comedy Central has been trash since the early 2000s so no loss there. I’d just love to see my local channels live (I have an antenna for that). But @Sony! Bring on the NHL Network!!! Make that channel available like NFL and NBCSN!

  • I hope you guys add these channels? CW and NBC

    • Fyi, CW has all latest episodes free the next day on their new Roku channel.. I use it all the time.. so cw is not critical for me

  • I’ll trade the Viacom channels for NBA.tv any day. Besides, this is what OTT is all about. Don’t like one, move to another. PS Vue (my current choice) is awesome, Sling is awesome (moved to PS Vue for FNC and BigTen network), and I’m sure the ones from Hulu and DirecTV will be as well. Channel offerings and prices will ebb and flow. No big deal.

  • Looks like I’m going to find another service I was loyal 65$ package as soon as it was available. I referred others now your taking my kids favorite channels. I’m not happy.

  • I’m not too worried. Most of those stations are crap anyways.

    • Agreed. Comedy Central is the only good one. I can understand being upset if you have kids who need their mtv and nickelodeon, but otherwise we are losing 1 good channel. It’ll be a little bit of a pain but I can find all the CC shows I watch pretty easily.

  • Be nice if you can give customers option to get partial refund for the month as soon as the channels are gone.

  • This is lame!!! taking away MTV and my Teen Wolf series is starting back up next week!! what the hell. Good thing I have Hulu also but this sh!t is still lame!!! why drop channel’s ppl love. I’m sure you still making a bunch of money sony so money should not be the issue.

  • Those are pretty much majority of the channels we watch in this house. Not happy with VUE at all. Guess its time to find a new service.

  • Losing NickJr is a deal-breaker for me, since that’s half of what my kids watch. Sony, why can’t you offer Viacom channels as an option?

Also, when you change the channel lineup the day after my bill is paid, a month seems like too long of a contract. I’ve been using Vue for 3 months now, and it’s already time to quit. I guess I’ll try Sling TV.

  • Come on i left Comcast for this. Comedy central I watch south Park Spike cops ,Bellitor Nick SpongeBob MTV sucks now but I’ll check on it every so often etc. Yall need to do something cause I been with ps vue since day one literally. And you are losing a valuable customer. This my last month until further notice.

  • I personally have had PlayStation Vue since it has launched. My family and personally love how it divides its self from major cable company and other streaming competitors. The channel line up it offers was a steal for the price it was selling for. The additional DVR included was a major thumbs up as well. My 3 yr. old child watches Nick Jr. on a daily basis and Nickelodeon is a major channel for our family viewing. I now feel like a cable company has fooled me into purchasing its false product again with a small imprint that you cant see in the fine lines of its letter saying, ” Just to let you know 20+ channels wont be available later on when you buy from us. Have a nice day.” This type of issue is comical and seems to have more then often with a lot of cable companies and now PlayStation name is in the mix. Very sad and feel lied too, something has to be done and at this moment not sure how much longer my family and I will continue with PlayStation Vue.

  • I still don’t see the NBA TV channel in my guide. I seriously hope I don’t have to go up a tier to access this while you’re dropping so many channels but keeping the same prices. Doesn’t seem worth it. I’ve only been a Vue watcher for about a month, and what brought me in you’re now taking away. I may have to go back to Sling TV if there is not a better explanation of what’s going to happen going forward. Changing the pricing needs to be addressed. And quickly.

    • Do you have a personal channel list(favorites)that you created where you put selected all the channels you watch. If you do, go to the end of it and then you will see the other channels not in your favorites. You will see NBA there. Just favorite it and it will go to your favorite list.

  • Can someone please clarify (I haven’t read through all the comments, so sorry if this was already brought up): are the new channels (NBA TV and BBC) available on Core Slim? What plan is required for these new channels??
    thanks

  • Well, this sucks. Your getting rid of almost every great channel that most people chose you over sling tv for. Nick is a huge, huge reason many of us have psvue. Time to start shopping elsewhere.

  • Sad to lose comedy central. Don’t give a **** about the rest of the channels though. With the exception of the Daily show which seems tough to find, you can find most of their shows online. **** Viacom….glad Sony didn’t accept their terms and jack up the price. We get a pretty great service for the price…so I can’t complain. Happy to get BBC and VICELAND!

  • Extremely disappointed in the Viacom decision (have contacted Viacom with the same concerns). Cancelling immediately, with no intention of returning before that part of the service is restored.

  • Hi, I am very disappointed with Playstation vue removing Vitcom channels. I watch Nick, Mtv, Nicktoons, and other Vitcom channels. I swithed from other tv providers to Playstation vue for less. I do not care if I have to pay a little more monthly for the service like $59.99 $79.99 or even $99.99 a month one time without a contract. Playstation vue is well worth it with more value. I do not want these channels to disappear.

  • This is insane! I paid for the service for Nick, Comedy Central and MTV and MTV classic. Even Sling TV has those channels. I have been with VUE since it has launched. I also HATE sports so adding more sports networks should be it’s own separate package in fact I would pay extra for you to remove all the sports channels and give me back the Viacom channels. I really hate to cancel my services. But I guess there is no other options I can wait for everything to come to Netflix or Switch over to Sling TV and move over to Xbox One. By removing all the Viacom services the packages should now be changed to $15 a month because now it isn’t worth it.

  • i guess I’ll have to consider a new cable channel option!

    • I was literally just waiting for my service contract to be up, which happened yesterday, but without at least Nick/Nick Jr its not a viable solution for me and I’ll have to go with something else, and since I cannot get Sling TV on my PS consoles I now have to buy a Roku and use it, I have children whom primarily watch the television (Which I’m betting most of us do) so losing the Viacom channels is going to cause a lot of drops, which means an overall quality drop for the rest of you as money funnels out.

  • We demand answers, How are you going to fix this SONY??? Real ***** to do this to us, You don’t pay for 90% of a car. Why should we pay for the same price and less channels. FIX THIS.

  • there has to be more to it. to me, it seems like a lot of channels and to drop seems odd. what “other” channels are being added? nba tv and bbc is good, but as a consumer we should see a complete list of “other” channels

  • I watched a lot of Viacom’s channels; I will unfortunately have to find another option. Its a shame, I really like Sony’s offering (besides that loss of programming).

  • I am completely OK with dropping the Viacom channels to hold down cost.
Another overated channel collection is ESPN. Not much value there anymore.

  • Sling TV may not have Nickelodeon, but they do have Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Nick Jr. and Nicktoons. They also have the History channel. Looks like I’ll be switching over to Sling TV after this month.
I am very upset about Sony’s new lineup. I’m not paying the same price for less channels.

  • Yea. I switched because you have more channels for less but now you’re deleting channels and no price adjustment? No thanks. I’ll move back to Sling. Their mobile app was much easier to use anyways.

  • No Nick. No stay. Guess we will see what DIRECTVNOW has to offer.

  • I hope you are lowering the price since you let these channels get dropped. Seems only fair, less price for less service.

    • Hell no. They’ll keep prices the same. Who the hell wants more local news channels and BBC america rather than Comedy Central, MTV, Nick?

  • One of the few networks that I watched with regularity was comedy central. This was why I chose Vue over other services. And entertainment distribution companies wonder why the public is so angry with them.

  • You really screwed up getting rid of the Viacom channels. PSVue had everything a streaming service should have and was better than Sling in every way until you just gave up your best advantage, which was the inclusiveness of all the content people wanted along with a DVR. Now people have to choose whether the DVR is worth losing major channels. Your primary subscribers are 18-35 year old males and you alienated a lot of us with this.

  • This is very unfortunate news. I have a feeling with the upcoming propaganda that’s soon to be unleashed, there will be plenty more channels that will follow suit. Its not you Sony… well, it is.

However, despite Viacomm’s greed , I bid you “adieu.” My clock says 11:04 EST, and the memo above states that Viacom is switching off at 12:01am, November 11th. So… Where is Trevor Noah?

Sorry Sony. If you expect me to deliver my payments to an overpriced subscription (after losing 25% of your lineup), I expect my service as we agree.

  • Eh… corporate politics really sucks, especially for the paying customer. Tbh the only thing I’ll really miss from viacom are the music channels, specifically the one’s that actually played music videos.

I’m kinda bummed. I know it’s not really Sony at fault, now I won’t be able to add random songs to my Spotify playlist’s as easily as I used to.

    >_<

  • Vue needs to add Spanish channels/A&E networks and last but not least APPLE TV App. I’ve been patient. But I don’t know how much longer. Sling tv had all the channels I watch. I’m currently subscribing to both the only reason why I’m hanging with Vue is because of the DVR functionality. But as soon as sling gets that feature I quit Vue or if Vue gets the other channels I want I’ll quit sling tv

  • This is bull. Losing Spike and Nickelodeon???? You guys are hanging on by a thread with keeping AMC but I will be unsubscribing very soon!!

  • Playstation Vue…you better get VIacom back or I will be leaving. I just cut Cox after 10+ years, it will be nothing to cut you after 4 months.
