Red Dead Redemption 2: PlayStation and Rockstar Games Announce Partnership

For the past 20 years, Rockstar have continually redefined the concept of open worlds. From the record breaking Grand Theft Auto series, the Midnight Club racing games, the schoolyard comedy Bully, to the breakout hit Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar has consistently delivered on a level that few have managed to match.

Now, following up Grand Theft Auto V — one of the most successful entertainment properties of all time — Rockstar is set to return with Red Dead Redemption 2, the latest entry in the Red Dead series of games. And there’s no better place to play it than PlayStation.

Hand crafted to take full advantage of PS4, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

We are pleased to announce that PS4 players get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Check back on PlayStation.Blog for more details soon and for all of the latest information on Red Dead Redemption 2.

In addition, the PS3 classic Red Dead Redemption will be coming to PlayStation Now soon. Relive the epic story of former outlaw John Marston as he hunts down the gang members he once called friends through the harsh and punishing landscape of America’s dying West.

  • Yes! Hopefully something more than couple exclusive clothes or missions!

  • I played Red Dead Redemption and was instantly hooked. I am really looking for RDR2! Fall 2017 can’t come soon enough! I hope they are planning to have a game extension with zombies!

  • that’s what i like with rockstar team they work so smoothly and when you don’t expect anything Baaang!!! ladies & gentlemans: Red Dead Redemption 2 (^_~) good work rockstar team.

  • Ugh, I was hoping for a Redemption Remaster as well as plenty of others it seems. I’m sure they’d make more money off the remaster vs PS Now, I’m not a fan of Now due to the ridiculous pricing and you still don’t actually own anything. I still have my copies of Redemption and Dead Nightmare and would buy another PS3 again before I’d pay for Now. Most of the games can be purchased used for cheaper, Now is good I guess for someone who has a handful of games they want to play and could get through them in a reasonable time, but come on…

Half the games not worth a remaster have got them and this masterpiece hasn’t? A Remaster would allow the most amount of ppl to experience the game again again before the new one. I was also hoping for conformation that PS Pro was going to indeed be supported hopefully at native 4K, but I’ll take it either way.

  • We need a remaster for the PS4 or something c’mon bro I like playstation but i can’t capture video or screenshots via PSNow so until that happens i’ll have to said that’s a “Meh” for me.

  • Timed exclusivity for anything is straight up lame. This game is also so damn far away, so I find it hard to care about this title yet. Big ol’ Yawn.

  • I’m sure PSnow is great for those who can afford it (service fee is a tad steep for me and ISP’s are increasingly adding data caps with additional fees). We already have a price increase in PS+, I get you want to make your service profitable etc.. But marginalizing the userbase that is on a budget/does not have constant top tier internet connection is just disappointing as a customer.

You wanted me to choose your console as the centerpiece of my living room, It is. So now make me feel like I made the right choice by allowing more accessibility/flexibility for those who do not want to subscribe to yet ANOTHER service.

While you’re at it, how about you contact Comcast and see if you can figure out how I can get my HBOgo and ESPN to stream on your console. It’s the ONLY device where I can’t stream these services. I understand this isn’t entirely your fault. But if I had an Xbox, I could use these features, along with Skyrim and Fallout mods… Just saying…

  • This is not the same as a PC version Rockstar. Bad solution that ignores what your fans really want.

  • I’m throwing my money at the monitor, but nothing’s happening. Can’t wait!

  • Disappointed that RDR1 will only be available on PSnow, it’s cheaper to buy a used ps3 and the game than it would be for a year subscription. Sigh.

Lower the pricing and maybe more people would sign up!!!

  • WHEN on PS Now?? WHEN?!?

  • ? Where the hell is the partnership? They did not say a simple thing about that in the article…

  • Where’s the Red Dead Redemption’s remaster on PS4? I want it!

  • Hey @John Koller LOVE that avatar you’re rocking. Appreciate your passion! #15yoSOCOM>everything

  • Does it have Playstation Pro support?

  • Halle-freaking-lujah. Finally.

  • PS Now = Everybody’s punching bag

  • IMO… Red Dead Redeption is R*’s best game they’ve ever made! So seeing that a sequel is coming out, is AWESOME!!! I can’t wait!

  • I have tried PS Now recently and I loved it! It is the best under-rated service from Sony, Netflix for games…
There are so many PS3 games that I did not have but now I can play…
But I get it, so many people do not have access to super fast internet to use PS Now. It sucks that Rockstar is not a fan of remastering games.

  • Hey everyone,

RDR is one of my favourite games of all time, and I agree with most of the people for wanting to have RDR remastered instead of being in Playstation Now.

Playstation: Come play Red Dead Redemption on PS NOW! It’s going to be awesome while we wait for the release of RDR 2 in March!

Me: Yeah ok, let’s pay more money to the subscription fee and play the game as a test trial cause we fully can’t keep it.. I’ll play the PS3 version over and over again… with ya’ll for the online memories.

  • So you made a Partnership with Rockstar for Red Dead Redemption right !?

What about made a Partnership to bring some Rockstar Games to Ps Vita !? Gta trilogy for example !

Those 13 millions of Vita Owner after 4 years to supporting you, Sony, we deserve at least this rewards..

  • When it comes to RDR, I am willing to pay the full price of a new AAA game just to relive on PS4 what I have lived back in 2010 on my friends’ PS3. I don’t like NOW though, cause I like having the disc in my personal collection. Please Sony, since you now have the partnership with Rockstar, release a new remastered edition for PS4 and you will get your money’s worth and then some. There are a lot of people who want to prepare for RDR 2 by replaying the classic first installation of the series, don’t disappoint them…

  • I own Red Dead Redemption on PS3 and a PS3, a PS4, and a Vita.

However, I just purchased an Xbox One S to watch my Sony 4k discs on my Sony 4k TV and I’ve repurchased Red Dead Redemption on Xbox 360 through backwards compatibility!

So…. Obviously, you losing die hard fans of your ecosystem due to little errors not to mention lots of money!

  • I have no interest in the multiplayer aspect, but I will pick this up for the single player campaign. Regarding the first one, I still have my PS3, and I still have a copy of Red Dead, so I’ll play it on my PS3 thank you very much. You can keep that PS Now garbage. It will be a cold day in July before I ever pay for that crap.

  • OK for those who want a remaster or a PS4 port, stop posting about it here and take it up to Rockstar Games over at their website. Sony does not make the game, Sony does not own Rockstar Games. This is a simple partnership, at the end of the day, Rockstar has the final say on what they develop and release.

  • So much hate on ps now. I used to pay for a streaming service that let me stream games to my phone with one catch. I had to already own them on steam. It was maybe 8 dollars a month. This is a little more than that, and you don’t need to own any of the to play them. You people think it’s cheap for them that they could just lower the price? I’m sure it’s not.

  • C’mon guys there are many countries that don’t have the speed to stream on ps now!! Just remaster Red Dead Redemption for the PS4 so we can all be happy!! Everyone wants it!! Make it happen Sony, we love you and belive in you!!

  • This is such a day one buy!!!! If only other developers took a page out of the Rockstar handbook there would be a shortage of bad games.

  • Wish they showed more footage.

  • Cannot wait for this game…But, I also agree that you guys need to remaster RDR for disk sales. Straight economics, otherwise I will not be wowed with 1 grabber title to play for a subscription fee. So backwards compatible it is!

  • Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games so I’m looking forward to this one Rock Star. In Rock Star I Trust.

  • I Love Red Dead Redemption & GTA V

  • “In addition, the PS3 classic Red Dead Redemption will be coming to PlayStation Now soon.”

Get the rest of the Rockstar games on PS Now!
