Gran Turismo Sport Update

Hello GT Community — I am sharing some news today that we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Gran Turismo Sport to 2017. GT Sport is Polyphony’s foremost competitive gaming title, with high expectations from both the fans and from within our team.

From the start this title has been one of our most ambitious undertakings by using the latest technologies, such as physics-based rendering and sound simulations, and Scapes photo mode. In combining these features with a new Sport mode, we are offering a competitive gaming experience to truly reinvent what it means to be a racing game. We’ve been excited and humbled by the response each time that we’ve shared new gameplay with everyone.

However, as we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, which we’ve already dedicated so much effort towards since announcing the title. We do not want to compromise the experience in any way. While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date.

GT Sport will continue to be shown at several gaming events around the world. I hope everyone has the opportunity to experience first-hand the yet-to-be revealed cutting edge experiences that will be achieved by GT Sport.

Thank you for all your continued support.

  • Listen take your time because unfortunatly sony has zero racing titles driveclub, the crew, project cars, and need for speed 2015 were garbage 6/10 games really. This game will definently be the best racing game for ps4 the question is will it be the best racing across all consoles and i think gt is starting to realize that their game still isn’t good enough to compete with forza so as long as i get the racing game i PREORDERED! i have been waiting for over a decade for a racing game on this platform since need for speed underground 2 okay gran turismo has been irrelavant since GT3 and thats the facts. Forza has been dominating the racing community since 2006 period if you argue that your an idiot every time they compare a new gt game to a forza game its always rated 10 points higher than it period. Gt has been rocking 8/10’s since gt3 while forza has been getting 9/10’s each year. even when forza 5 got a 8.8/10 it was still better than gt6 which got an 8/10 like mario kart has been doing better than gran turismo this decade. So GT take all the time you need don’t mess up this new franchise playstation definently needs.

    • Actually Project Cars in its current form is very good. Granted that’s after 6+ months of updates (it’s around version 10.0 now) but it’s now a very polished racing game and probably the best all around for any platform.

  • Can’t wait to see what other features are coming!

  • The Delay of Gt sport will be the perfection of Sim racing , new heights and dynamic racing be prepared for 2017,for those who want to pursue professional racing have been given a opportunity to advance theirs skills before its release from a Ps3 owner!! Then Get Ps4 and begin Racing!

    • GT is NOT a SIM RACER. It’s SIMCADE at best. It’s the same thing like Forza. I’ve played over 500 hours on GT6 and can attest that the game is good but very different from other race games in terms of what it’s focus is. Forza is more fun, but GT is more elaborated and you practice different techniques in driving, overall both are good, but the Delay will give an opening to Forza to shine even brighter.

  • Have been grandturismo fan since the beginning, owned every game and every console , in fact for the last few years it’s the ONLY game I play. Pre-ordered GT-sport the day it was announced, and was waiting for the new PS4 slim/upgrade, so I would be ready for the launch and have been counting down the days till Nov 15th, but now it’s been delayed another year, not a few weeks or months, but another year? , I think that is unacceptable. It makes me believe the game would not have been no where completed for the promised launch date and again we have been lied to. Having just cancelled my pre-order, I now have no intention of buying the new console nor the new game when or if it ever gets launched. Feels like a bad break-up with an abusive lover, I will miss playing the grandturismo franchise but it has to be. One can only tolerate the abuse for so long. Thanks for the good times.

  • Might as well release gran Turismo 7 and make sport a mode within it at this point.. its going on 3 yrs and still no gt. Been a fan and driving since gt1. The main reasons I bought ps4 was for it. I mean, at least give us gt6 on psnow with wheel support..

  • Can’t wait to drive that bugatti

  • This is just unacceptable, why a year delay? So let me get this straight, you plan to release worldwide a video game in November, and suddenly 2.5 months before that date you realize that the game you promised is a crap and you need another year to improve it? In the PS Store you can see release date as 12/31/2017, so that’s even more than a year. I mean, is OK if you tell me this 6 months before release, but 2.5 months before? I apologize but this for me is purely irresponsibility! Not Fair at all. I agree with all comments here saying Forza is on top of GT, I only played Forza Motorsport 2 in 2006 or 2007 and it left me with a better impression than GT5 or GT6. And the reasons why you say you are going to delay are like the same reasons you said to justify no GT series in PS4 in already more than 2 years.

I am guessing you will reinvent the wheel this time in 2017 (if not 2018 or 2019), otherwise you should consider yourselves as a very good example of how a very good video game franchise that represents the best racing game from a console can go straight to becoming only an insignificant +1 in the racing video games list.

  • I’m kinda ****ed to be honest I dropped 80$ for this I was happy it was coming out on my birthday. Now it is saying it’s not out till December 2017 wtf really .?? maybe I should get a Xbox one the racing games seem to be located at Microsoft ps4 has been spitting out poor driving games gt used to rule the roost now they can’t even live up to a release date that has been for years in the making ….truly I am dissapointed but what can I do but wait …….. This game better be gamers gold …. But if you follow suit and seem like you are it will be a disappointment regardless as by the time it gets released forza will have their newest and brightest and gt will be lost in its light ……

  • I can’t believe Sony allow this to happen. This will drive people to look for alternative racing game or even alternative console to play racing game. This is a big mistake.

  • I love gran turismo, ever since I was a boy the first video game I’ve ever played was gran turismo, for years I played each and every single game they released.Gran turismo sport is gonna be great, and I know it.I understand that you will make the game perfect and I would agree delaying the release to make it better.

  • As a kid My family couldn’t afford it on my list of games but I always wanted a GT game. Now that I work full time I will definitely be buying this game. The delay is fine as long as it’s for improvements.

  • (1 of 3) Well, I am saddened and troubled by this news. While I understand, respect, and appreciate that you want to make sure the game delivers as it was intended, this has become par for the course. Why is it that of all the games and developers out there, it has become a running joke that release dates are never met with this franchise? At some point, this all gets old. I have been a fan of the GT series since the original GT on PS1, and have owned all of the titles over the years. However, considering that various titles have released multiple games on the PS4 and GT has yet to release it’s first installment, it’s gone beyond disappointing to the point where it is downright maddening. I hate to say this, but for a series that started 8 years earlier than its biggest competition (Forza), it’s curious that GT has released less titles than its Microsoft counterpart. It’s Microsoft counterpart (Forza) has also already released 4 different titles on the Xbox One, while the GT series has yet to debut in any shape or form on the PS4, now 3 years into its life-cycle.

  • (2 of 3) The only reason GT wins the “titles released” category is because of the numerous “partial” or “half-releases” such as GT Prologue. These games, while at one point acceptable and maybe even necessary, have become far too commonplace. When you spend time on an “abbreviated” release, it only furthers the amount of time needed to get the truly wanted full-release out. As it stands now, fans of the GT series have been without a PS4 incarnation of their favorite, Playstation-exclusive franchise for 3 years, and it seems as though it will go beyond that into the first quarter of 2017. But as I said before, release dates for this franchise are seen as optimistic at best, and sick jokes at worst. So in the end, why bother even saying a date anymore? Honestly, people are fired in almost every industry if they miss a deadline even once, much less multiple times like GT has over the years.

  • (3 of 3) So my question is this: after years and years of making this game, and essentially ONLY this game, why is it that it still takes over 3 years AFTER a new console comes out for us to be graced with a title on the new hardware? Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Uncharted and more have all already made their debut on the PS4, and for some, they have already released sequels. One credited as being Playstation’s “killer app,” GT has now become a laughable, unattainable fantasy for gamers. After all, I didn’t have to wait 3 years to get my hands on Nathan Drake on the PS4, so what gives? Again, I understand and agree with the decision to not release a game until it is ready and finished, but is it too much to ask that for once in the last decade a release date actually is MET with this franchise?
