Update: Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. The monthly plan will change to $11.99 CAD in Canada, and remain $9.99 USD in the U.S. If you are a current member, the new prices will take effect if your membership renews on or after this date.

We’re happy to share the free PS4 games for PS Plus members this August! This month we look to satisfy your inner space pirate, and let you battle it out with friends in a frenzied tower builder.

First up is Tricky Towers, a new title from WeirdBeard Games. Tricky Towers is a physics-based puzzler that’s at its best when you’re competing against friends. With local and online multiplayer for two to four players, the game shines as you race to stack your tower while casting spells to disrupt your opponents. The gameplay is fast, fun, and addictive, as you’ll find yourself coming back for more. So gather your friends or join them online and enjoy the mayhem of Tricky Towers.

Next up is Rebel Galaxy. Suit up and take command in this space combat RPG from developer Double Damage. Take the helm of a massive destroyer as you make your reputation through trade, by being a work-for-hire mercenary or a swashbuckling pirate. In a procedurally generated universe, no two star systems are the same and there’s always something new to discover. So take the helm, prepare for battle, and have a blast with Rebel Galaxy.

    Glad my sub ran out in july…gonna bide my time renewing it until a month comes along with decent games. I dont play online anyways

    Wow unexpected.
    I saw the two games and wasn’t sure if I’d grab any…
    After looking at gameplay from both I’ll grab both!
    While my kid will like competing on the tetris-like game
    I’ll definitely give a try at the space game!
    It is no “no man’s sky” but it looks fun.

    I’ve been happy with most of the PS Plus lineups. I mean, free games are free games but…this is just a pretty bad one, I finally have to admit. Rebel Galaxy looks fine, but there’s really only 1 PS vita game this month since Ultratron is for all the systems and kinda kills the idea of exclusive ps plus games. Oh well.

      That’s kind of the point though, it’s 95% about the online access. The free games are just a nice PR bonus that ppl get too hung up on.

    Terrible Lineup I am tired of them giving us these sorry Indie games. Why can’t we get the old games people don’t play anymore like Knack, Killzone, and stuff like that instead of this crap

    God, this months games are absolute trash. The only good game is Yakuza, not my thing though. The rest of the games, however, are very sub-par indies that suck. And don’t day, “Stop acting so entitled, they’re free!” News flash: they’re not free. PS Plus is $50 a year. Step up your game Sony, and do better in September.

      Online access for your PS4 is $50 a year. The games are a free bonus. I’m sure Sony would be happy to charge you for online access and not give you free games at all, if you prefer. The cost for online is never going away, but someday the free games might. Enjoy them while you’ve got them.

    Just because Rebel Galaxy is an indie doesn’t mean it’s crap. It’s a deep addictive and fun open world space sim. If I hadn’t of bought it this month I’d be really stoked for this lineup for games.

      No, it’s crap. As long as Online play is behind the PSminus Paywall, people will continue to complain about very sub-par offerings. Deal with it! It’s our RIGHT as PAYING Customers. And with out PSMinus, a vast majority of the ps4’s functionality is limited and or not available.
      There’s a reason gamers don’t pay subs on PC, cause PC gamers aren’t door mats
      I would have just left your comment alone, but since you chose to police everyone else….

    Bought Rebel Galaxy day 1, It’s pretty good! Hope to see an expansion/Dlc for it in the future. Tricky towers looks like great couch multiplayer fun!

    You know – every month I get optimistic and I think “Maybe it’ll be like the good old days… Every month another Demon’s Souls or Uncharted 3…” But then I see the word “indie” or “8 bit” or “meta critic score of 75” and it all comes tumbling down.

    And the garbage continues for PS4. In the nearly 3 years since PS4 launched, we have received only two full length triple A titles (Injustice: Gods Among Us and NBA 2K16) while every other one we’ve received has been a short spinoff of a triple A title (InFamous: First Light, Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, Saints Row IV: Gat out of Hell). We got Zombi earlier this year, which I consider a double A title. Come on Sony, stop being cheap. Xbox Games With Gold is burying PS Plus.

    YAKUZA 5: an ENORMOUS dramatic, action, sandbox, beat em up, RPG, that takes a MINIMUM of FIFTY-FIVE HOURS to beat, not including side quests (that are, individually, large enough to be their own entire video game) is going to be FREE in August, and STILL people are COMPLAINING about “nothing good out this month”??? Damn.

    If ayone remembers ps Plus b4 ps4 came out there were awesome sales and free AAA games 4 times a month and with sonys gajillions aof dollars made off ps4 sales youd think theyd feel obligated to reward their loyal fan base and try to beat microsoft at everything and not just sales . Microsoft has better promotions better free games and backwards compatibility. Sony makes you pay to play ps3 and ps2 games with a 45 dollar subscription every 3 mnths and its like shoot i own a lot of the games i see on there but i have to have a ps3 cluttering up my entertainment center to play them. Its 2016 guys, we should have made sony enough money by now that it wont hurt them to let us play any game from our library on the newest console they come out with. If anything it would promote sales of ps4’s but no they want us to buy or rent the same games as many times as our dumbbutts let them. I do it too , but if we stop paying for ps now and stop buying remastered at full price and make a stand and stop paying for plus we would get what we want. I want Sony to be number 1 at everything and not just sales. It shows howmuchSonyreallycaresandthinksaboutitsgamingconsumers.

    I come here to check the new free games and to make sure everyone is keeping the status quo. If the games are not triple A, complain that it’s another bad month, XBox offers better games, and that Sony never offers anything good. If the games are triple A, complain that they are old games and everyone already bought it.

    I’m glad we have the process down pat.

    I personally am just happy to get some free games and always hope for a nice surprising unknown game to blow up like Rocket League or Deadstar.

    I wouldn’t be upset about XBox getting WWE 2K16, I have it for PS4 and it blows. So much glitching and the career mode is terrible. The only thing that was enjoyable was the 3:16 chapters, that’s about it. I’ve never played ’15 but it actually got better ratings from what the internet says.

    Regardless of what the games are, they are free and you never know how much you may like them? When I got Bro Force free a few months back, I never thought I’d enjoy it as much as I do today. I have put hundreds of hours playing it! I love it!

    This time, who knows? It may be a new game I love!

    The last 3 months have been EXTREMELY disappointing. Pre-2016 we used to be pretty much guaranteed at least 1 or 2 great games a month.

    In Sony’s defense Rebel Galaxy looks like it might be alright but why are we getting a phone game? Also, haven’t we already had Ultratron? I pay my subscription for 2 PS4 games per month.

    The PS4 is your flagship console, Sony! Shame on you, you need to do better.

    Oh god, I was really hoping for next month to be good. Furi and Gat out of Hell wasn’t that good, but I can’t lie Paragon was cool. Xbox is always getting the great games for free. I’m tired of these old games with ashy graphics. I’m going back to Xbox because if actually seem like they listen to there consumer.
