Update: Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. The monthly plan will change to $11.99 CAD in Canada, and remain $9.99 USD in the U.S. If you are a current member, the new prices will take effect if your membership renews on or after this date.

We’re happy to share the free PS4 games for PS Plus members this August! This month we look to satisfy your inner space pirate, and let you battle it out with friends in a frenzied tower builder.

First up is Tricky Towers, a new title from WeirdBeard Games. Tricky Towers is a physics-based puzzler that’s at its best when you’re competing against friends. With local and online multiplayer for two to four players, the game shines as you race to stack your tower while casting spells to disrupt your opponents. The gameplay is fast, fun, and addictive, as you’ll find yourself coming back for more. So gather your friends or join them online and enjoy the mayhem of Tricky Towers.

Next up is Rebel Galaxy. Suit up and take command in this space combat RPG from developer Double Damage. Take the helm of a massive destroyer as you make your reputation through trade, by being a work-for-hire mercenary or a swashbuckling pirate. In a procedurally generated universe, no two star systems are the same and there’s always something new to discover. So take the helm, prepare for battle, and have a blast with Rebel Galaxy.

    Very happy Ultratron is PSTV compatible.

    I don’t expect aaa games but expect games better then what they giving out this month. I want semi aaa that went under peoples radar but games that people wouold want to play.

    You can’t go wrong with a Yakuza game, especially one I haven’t played yet. The tower game looks like it will be entertaining for a bit. The rest is crap.

    I feel like hating on the game lineup is just the cool thing to do these days, rebel Galaxy is a fun game, decent games overall

      Yes, @Nex, pick the lower reviewed PS4 version when you just complained about the game being bad on Steam, when the PC metacritic is higher. Maybe reviewers feel the port did a poor job, not that the game itself is bad. Metacritic is terrible for gauging how good a game actually is. In fact, numbered review scores are terrible as well. People need to learn how to read entire reviews and check out gameplay for themselves to determine if they’d enjoy a game. As far as I know, people have differing opinions, so just because you don’t like a game, doesn’t mean everyone shares your point of view either

      @ Nex He never said that Rebel Galaxy is masterpiece. He said that it “is a fun game”. I read through quite a few of the reviews and most of them did agree that it was fun but had quite a few flaws. A yellow score is not given to games that are not fun, they are given to entertaining games that have flaws and are not as good as they could be. So your link actually contradicts your statement that most people do not agree with him.

      I had decided to use some low tactics against you and look up your trophy list and was going to list some games that you put a good amount of time into that were reviewed worse. However upon doing so, I was actually impressed by your choice in games (at least the ones that you seemed to put time into). Congrats on the Binding of Issac plat!

    I can’t really complain because this games are free, but c’mon man, enough with the indie games on PS4. It’s been 3 years now, give us some Killzone, Knack, Assassin’s Creed, Battlefield HARDLINE, something… I might play Yakuza 5 on PS3 though.

    well… I did only get PS plus to be able to play multiplayer, so…. there’s that? will probably check out rebel galaxy, everything else is not my cup of tea

    Holy molly!

    Sega gave away Y4 and now Y5, guess it sold so purely that they partnered with PSPlus to get some downloads and money from it. Too bad though, love the series. Hope Y zer0 manages to be strong in west.

    As for Vita, nice to see Patapon 3, but that’s barely a PSvita title. Would love to see Japan Studio to work on another Patapon title for PSVita =(

    Yakuza 5 makes the month for me.

    Don’t care about another PSP game. Patapon 3….however fun I had with it. When I had a PSP.

    Ultratron will be fun for the Vita.

    Surprised Tricky Towers is on PS+….it just came out last week….may piss off buyer who did not know better.

    Rebel Galxy…..not sure till I see some gameplay.

    Retro/Grade….don’t care.

    The games are so bad… like always. SONY, WAKE UP! You are losing people because of this games! XBOX made ,,The Crew” for free! And you!? You made Rebel galaxy and tricky towers for free! I had PS2 and PS3, now I have PS4, but maybe I’ll become a XBOX costumer. Because of YOU! I still believe that you can make us proud of you! Give us cool games like Dying Light, The Crew or something else. Please and thank you

      Yes, entirely change the console you play on based on one of the features of their online subscription service. Makes perfect sense.
      Why would you choose to buy and play on a system based on the quality of games available, the first-party, second-party and third-party exclusives? Or most likely, based on where all your friends are playing?
      Seriously, people on here acting like the free games determine what system people will buy are absolutely deluding themselves, and most of them are too poor to buy a second system, otherwise they wouldn’t be complaining about not getting expensive games with their $50 yearly subscription. Just… quit it already. You’re not fooling anyone.

    CMON SONY jeez give us a decent game which we will actually play, i LOVE PSN and sony i have an xperia z5 and absolutely love your products but the quality of games we are currently recieving are to say the least trash, i know you want people to try different games but you really arent persuading people to buy psplus because the games on offer aren’t that great. yes we have had SOME decent games recently but they are only a few of the great games playstation has to offer cmon give us games which most people will play, saints row is a beast of a game and one of my personal favourites but the problem is that we have only had so many good games for psplus and whilst xbox is getting Triple a titles we are getting furi and tricky towers haha we all want full games not indie games, and if u give us indie games then give us the greats like fez and the binding of isaac just to name a few all in all i LOVE PSN and Sony but the free games… man are they becoming lackluster. Sorry to rant its just thaat i dont want playstation to dail and wanna keep it up with pc because i cannot wait for god of war and watch dogs 2 to be coming out i am sooo hyped and i dont want the free games to only be an hour long bit of fun.

    The line-up looks a little weaker than some months, but any month that I get all 6 games and they aren’t ones I already own is a plus for me!

    I have all three systems for Playstation and an XBox One, so 10 free games for me August! Woohoo!

    Yeah I definitely won’t be renewing my ps subscription I don’t really play online that much on the ps4 that’s the main reason I kept it not for the free games cause they been just ok lately … I Play more on my Xbox1 and they are giving you a better value right now for your money

    I own and beat Yakuza 5, bought it last December right after it came out, really good game.

    kinda disappointed my PS+ expired or I’d definitely play Rebel Galaxy (seen early alpha footage, and I know it’s full release now), it seems so, so good if you like AC4 style naval combat (in spaaacccceeee!)

    have no real opinion on the others.

    If all you want PS+ to be is a drip-feed of years old “AAA” games that are already regularly $5-10, maybe just buy those games yourself?

    PS+ putting a spotlight on indie games that might not otherwise get much attention is awesome. And hey, guess what, Rebel Galaxy is /fantastic/. How many folks complaining have actually given any of this any thought beyond “I don’t immediately recognize this game, therefore it must be trash.”

    The backlash against “indie” in here is astonishing. In 2016 game development is more accessible than it’s ever been, we’ve got a constant stream of games from a wider variety of people than ever, and PS+ gives them more attention by letting us play some of them for (sort of) free.

    And then some people look at that and say “Nah I’d rather you give me a free copy of this two-year old military shooter that’s already $5 anyway.”

    Seriously guys, try games you’ve never heard of. You might *gasp* find something surprising and unique.

      PlayStation cant win either way, if they gave out AAA titles people will complain that the titles or ‘”too old” or “iv already played that”, no matter what games are put up people will always complain. i with you and think its great that it supports indie studios and i always add them to my library even if i don’t have any intention of playing it cause i know it will benefit that studio.
      people are starting to expect too much

    never heard of the two ps4 games, but that’s not a bad thing. tricky towers looks like a fun strategy game and Rebel Galaxy the space battles look cool so we’ll see. Also, yakuza 5!
    I think most people who complain want some sort of bragging rights for the “console war” or to “be proud of you” or something crazy.

    what can i say . looks ok but i’m not getting excited . I mean you could do better , let’s see for September ! In all fairness XBOX is a bit ahead i think but with Gat out of hell and NBA2K16 i can’t say it is bad or anything . Maybe you can give more discounts on triple A games … Thanks

    Last couple of months were not too bad, but this one has gone right back to the sub-par “benefits” of our memebership. I understand not having a AAA game every time. However, maybe some solid classics from past systems would be interesting. Thank you Sony, but this month is just a blah.

    Yakuza 5 is god-tier among gaming. If I hadn’t already bought and platinumed it, I would be bouncing off the walls in sheer excitement. Even if you don’t own a PS3, still get the game incase you ever decide to pick one up as they’ll be dropping in price.

    I am pretty disappointed at this. But that’s probably because I read all the articles saying how we could have gotten blood borne, resident evil HD, or even Arkhangelsk knight. I probably wouldn’t be so disappointed if I hadn’t been expecting games like that. Oh well, I learned my lesson.

    Well…I am always surprised how people can be so upset over FREE games. If you want AAA 79,95$ games…get up and go buy them. Or hell…stay seated and digital buy. I truly appreciate “outside the box thinking” games offered by ps+ each month. Gets me to try stuff I would not have bought from the get go and I was often utterly satisfied. Thx guys at PS+. Keep up the good work!

    All 3 ps4 games have bad review averages! Why are you giving us garbage shovelware? Last month was bad enough with the god awful 4 hour expansion to saints row but at least Fury was….meh. This shovelware is awful. Quit it with the goddamn vita and ps3 games. Those are DEAD SYSTEMS. THE PS3 IS NO LONGER FOR SALE ANYWHERE! The Vita isn’t even moving 5,000 units a month worldwide. End this farce and give us quality ps4 games. I don’t care if they are cheap games as long as they are good games. Giving us 3 cheap games that are bad is poor service.

      1. Psplus is mainly a service that provided online multiplayer. Games are a bonus.
      2. Ps3 isn’t a dead system. There are like 80+ million of them.

    been 10 months since i had playstation plus and every month sony just keeps making it easier for me not to choose to subscribe. complete garbage games as usual. and I’m really mad i gotta pay full price for games like uncharted 4 and then you guys hold the online multiplayer hostage even though i already paid you guys its never enough for you sony. steam can do everything psn can plus more and its free. if your going to block multiplayer then i should be able to just buy the single player portion separate and cheaper
