Sign Up for the Next PS4 System Software Update Beta

We’ve been hard at work on the next PS4 system software update, and could use your help testing it ahead of the official launch. Starting today, you can sign up for a chance to be a beta tester and get an advance look at some of the improvements and new features coming to PS4.

Click here to sign up. You can register to be a beta tester anytime between today and the start of the beta in early August. Users must be 18 years or older. Once the beta starts, we’ll close registration — so don’t delay!

As you may recall, we ran betas for the PS4’s 3.00 and 3.50 system software updates. Participants got to see all kinds of upcoming features before they were officially rolled out, like Events, Communities, and more.

If you’re part of the program, you’ll receive an email with instructions on downloading the beta version of the next system software. In order to sign up, you’ll need a PS4 with an internet connection, and access to a Master Account. And remember — you can roll back to the previous system software, version 3.55, at any time.

If you aren’t already signed up to the PlayStation Forums, make sure to do so. That way you’ll get access to our beta forums to discuss the new features with other testers. We’ll monitor forums throughout the beta, and it’s always valuable to hear your feedback. We’re listening to all the comments we get to help guide the direction we take.

We’ll be back in early August with an update on the features you can expect in the beta.

    About Events, the reminders currently don’t respect daylight savings time so they always show up over an hour too early. Maybe you could fix that.

    Sweet another beta! There isn’t much I want so iam looking forward to something new and creative. Oh wait I want to be able to DL my music from my CDs onto the PS. And some how to be able to send short video clips to my friends on the PSN without having to share on FB or YT. Folders sound lame and worthless. Backwards compatibility is pointless so don’t waste the time. Was able to do that with my ps3 and was extremely rare when I did. Rather play something newer.

    Loved the dlna support. Miss the ability to navigate to exact timestamp though. Using L2/R2 isn’t satisfactory or accurate enough.

    I signed up. I’m hoping for something new, maybe something cool. I don’t care about external HDD support, You can buy an internal HDD for less than an eternal. All it takes is 5 minutes and a screw driver, If you NEED an upgrade. I actually player all of my games so i don’t need int installs for games im not playing anymore. Save data is what matters people and installs don’t take any time at all. As for backwards compatibility,…. I bought a NEW system to play NEW games. And i still have my PS3, because why would i sell it? I still have a lot of PS3 games and I use use it as my PS Vue machine now. ;D

    But really people, why would you buy something new and not want the new experiences? What’s the point otherwise?

      +1 This guy gets it! Though im not against BC and folders i just dont want all of Sony’s resources to go into it. i want to experience new features like share play and rest mode again

    PLEASE have a tab for games. I absolutely hate looking through the library with all the random apps I have/once had. Separating the games into one category would really help clean it up.

    I hope Beta Testers get a something to acknowledge the fact we are helping to test the platform. PSN Credits? A Dynamic Theme?

    Features I’d be keen on include

    *Being able to pin games
    *Be able to remove the ‘suggested friend’ crap.
    *Delete several messages at once instead of one by one (Surely this is a no brainer?)

    There’s actually not too much more I need that I can think of at this stage… I love the UI and the flow of PS.

    Here’s what I’d like to see:

    -The ability to transfer media files to the HDD itself, and set images as backgrounds
    -The ability to transfer photos, music, videos, Applications, and System Backups to/from the PS Vita
    -A way to transfer captures to/from my PC via LAN

    Really need the backwards compatibility. I have over 300 games between the ps ps2 and ps4 my ps basically doesnt work anymore and the ps2 is just about the same condition . Im not paying extra to play them by download when i have all these discs packed away in boxes sitting idle .. Please help us long term sony supporters by throwing us a bone without the extra cost personally idont care if i have trophies from these games but it would be nice to dust off classics like dukes of hazzard etcetc

    I’m sure Sony is losing $$$ by not offering BC. Myself, and I’m sure many others are done buying PS3 titles. I have a 1TB hard drive full of digital games. I would purchase more games but I am not going invest any money into my PS3. Also many new Playstation customers I’m sure would purchase PS3 digital titles.

    Playstation Now is not the solution.

    i really hope they add the sistem to be able to share your ps4 saved videos (capture gallery) to your ps4 friends. i really hate how i cant share something something funny dat i found or a glitch or something. i really hope they add dat.

    Folders, PS 1 2 and 3 games playable, delete items from library, external harddrive support. I think if they add these features it will be a great update.

    There really really really needs to be a way to organize content on the download list. E.g. tabs for vita/ps3/ps4/psp, demos, videos, songs, etc. I know this is a psn issue, but this should have been done ages ago. Lets get this done!

    I don’t have a PS4 and I don’t feel compelled to get one. But having PS3 support, even if just digital games, would be more than enough to convince me. Until then, I’m sticking to ps3/vita.

    Speaking of which, can we get some more vita support. That is, apart from jrpgs. Thanks!

    How about something small like the ability for the PS4 to recognize which Blu-ray disc I put in. The PS3 could do it, but the PS4 simply says “Blu-ray Disc” when you load it and not the name of the movie. Like I said, small.

    I Hope it’s possible to make your own Themes like on PS3 but not sure about making your own avatars or PSN Changing name ID thing but it would have to be moderated… so No Nintendo avatars or Microsoft Avatars or inappropriate Avatars or No Inappropriate PSN ID… or Nintendo-related PSN ID or Microsoft-related PSN ID.

    Sony, make this happen but please… moderate the avatar changing or PSN Changing ID so some PSN users with nintendo avatars or microsoft avatars will not get in. My PSN ID has nothing to do with a nintendo character… i want it changed.

    Being able to change our username would be a huge plus! I understand, though, that this is apparently a nightmare to accomplish? Even so— being saddled with a name we came up with when we were young’ns isn’t ideal.

    I VERY MUCH would like folders, and then the ability to “pin to taskbar,” if you will. So all apps/games we’ve pinned are at the front of the “taskbar,” followed by the folders. And we can pin and unpin things as we wish.

    On that note, being able to just plain get rid of things would be nice! Scrolling through a bunch of apps, games, and features I never use isn’t THAT huge of a deal– but not having to do it would greatly improve things!

    Hope i get picked for it. Hope to see some the following in the update
    Folders
    Being able to save games to a HDD and run them off of it
    Pinning games to the menu so they stay there and being able to move games/app around on the menu without having to start them
    Wishlist/game gift on psn
    Change communities to be more facebook like where user can reply to a comment instead of just posting and hoping the person sees it
    Locking/Unlocking a party from the party menu
    Transfer music/videoes/pictures from usb to PS4 HDD
    Use own pictures as background for main menu
    Delete beta/alpha/demos from library
    PS1 games support
    Trophy tracking

    I hope above all that this update will fix the broken video recording that the april update brought…my PS4 does not record 15 min videos anymore and that is the more frustrating thing I’ve ever experienced on PS4.

    I hope we can finally organize icons in the UI in the way we want.

    I hope activities are finally fixed and not glitched like they’ve been since november 2015.

    I hope for no more unnecessary changes in the messages screen.

    That’s all I hope for I guess…and for real beta testing updates is as useful as beating a dead horse since Sony don’t give a damn about what their costumers want.Will stay on hope only since I already know all we’ll see in this update is unnecessary things.

    Oh yeah and allow to freakin delete games with at least 1 trophy earned.I earned a trophy from a damn recicled game accidentally while playing with ma brother in HIS account and now I gotta carry that in ma list for the rest of ma life because of your bs Sony.

    Also,make it so that you can record more than 15 min’s of gameplay! I occasionally make YouTube vids and it’s frustrating to not be able to record longer than 15 mind using my ps4.At least should be up to 30 mins….

    I put a 2 TB hard drive into my PS4 and it has filled up. We need that External HDD support. Xbox One can run games off of a External Drive. I’m buying more of my games on my Xbox because I know I wont have to delete them to make room for anything. I prefer gaming on the PS4 but the lack of External HDD support is awful.

    Backward Compatibility. While I know it is quite expensive or not possible for ps4. There has to be a way to allow us to somehow register our ps3 games with the store and then perhaps flag our accounts to be able to “rent” the games on ps now for free that we already own?
