As we look forward to the New Year, we’re excited to share our January 2016 PlayStation Plus lineup with everyone. This month our PS4 games pay homage to a couple classic, fan-favorite titles, while updating the gameplay and graphics to PS4!

Hardware: Rivals makes its exclusive debut on PlayStation Plus. Get behind the wheel of a powerful tank or mobile attack jeep in this arcade-style, vehicle combat game. Inspired by the PS2 classic Hardware: Online Arena, Hardware: Rivals lets you challenge your friends or enter the online multiplayer arena on your own and experience epic vehicular mayhem with multiple maps, game modes, and special events.

If you need a breather from all the vehicle-on-vehicle combat, you can always turn to the twisted Mexican folklore of Grim Fandango Remastered. As Manny Calavera, travel agent for the Department of Death, you’ll guide poor souls to their eternal rest. Crime. Skeletons. Romance. You’ll experience it all in this update to the beloved adventure game.

These PS4 games are free for PlayStation Plus members starting on the first Tuesday of January, and you can find the full list of PlayStation Plus games below.

    Very disappointing, i was hoping for an excuse to buy a PS4 by way of a decent game or two or at least a sign of the quality of PSplus games for ps4 on the up but i guess i will just have to keep on waiting.

    Games are underwhelming. I thought ps plus would be a good investment but if this pattern of 2nd rate games keeps up it’ll be a complete waste of money.

    I’m not complaining for grim but we been getting indie titles for a year now can I see at least 1 AAA title before I buy an xbox or join the pc master race?

    Very disappointing for ps4. Why can’t we get some of the triple a titles that have been out for a year or two? Getting tired of all these indie games. There were only 2 or 3 good games for all of 2015.

    Man these comments are disgusting.
    Playstation Plus is a great service. I suppose none of you took advantage of any of the awesome sales they gave us over the last few weeks. That’s another benefit of Plus, but a lot of these people who are complaining about Plus’ merits probably don’t ever buy anything and only want things for free.
    Plus has introduced me to so many great smaller games over the years. I typically buy all the AAA games worth owning anyway.
    Just to give one example, on Vita last month, I played to death this game called Rocketbirds: HGC. I would have NEVER tried that game. But since Plus offered it up I tried it and loved it. And months ago we got Towerfall: Ascension, recently we Valiant Hearts and again last month we got Blood Dragon.
    But no, all I hear is Plus IGC is “trash” or “crap”. I mean, hello, Grim Fandango is one of the greatest games ever. I guess Dragon Age: Origins is crap, too.
    And Hardware: Rivals… why is everyone dismissing this before it’s even out? We’re getting it on IGC *the day it releases*, much like we got Rocket League, and that’s cool. And I’m not saying it’s as great as Rocket League, but we know how that one turned out.

      It isn’t “wanting something for free” when you pay a monthly fee for access to the games and you don’t even get to keep access to them if you stop paying that fee. It is wanting value for our monthly fee.

    Such a terrible line up… seeing how were getting such crappy free games every month… makes me almost want to swap back over to the xbox one just to be able to actually play some good games each month…

    The only one i’m likely to get if any is Grim Fandango, maybe possibly Nihilumbra, overall the choices are lackluster this month. And for those that read this, i don’t dislike Dragon age Origins, but i can’t get into it, and i already own it.

    wow thats all you can do. last year you did better you gave better games like infamous first light and more stuff than that. this year its seems that the games are getting worse month by month. me and my friends have ps plus which we need to play online on ps4 so we like to check out what comming to ps plus list every month but this is just stupid. me and my firends just believe that we shoud just go to the xbox one. we see that microsoft games are good every month. i envy those who have an xbox one and have xbox live or whatever it is. wow sony microsoft is outclassing you in the part and no offense but this kind shows how cheap you are. if you want to ever more people get ps plus than get better games every month. by the way if you thing that evry year you’re spending a lot of money on those games, then you’re wrong, it matters the quality of the game.

      With my PS Plus discount I got MGSV, Until Dawn, Arkham Knight, Dragon Age 3, Metro Redux, Diablo 3, DOA5, Shadow of Mordor GotY , Both Wolfensteins, Onechanbara z2 Chaos, LbP3, Project Cars and like 6 other big games for less than $300 bucks. Just last month. I know not everyone will pay that much but the point is… Watch the sales. Big value. Like 75% off.

    what a disappointment grim is a good game but i was hoping for something good after a bad December line up. so this gen you must have a psn plus account to play online so now play station dont care what games are free psplus games as you have to pay for it anyway just to be online. if they had good games then it would not matter if it was free to be online becouse we would pay to get the free games. i guess i wont be playing destiny or the crew this month. hope next month is better. come on playstation give us something good its been long enough

    Lame. I didn’t put up with monthly subscription fees required to play online for low grade freebies. I don’t expect hot new titles to be made free, but this isn’t worth subscribing to when I can play most of the same games I play on PSN on my PC online for free. PCMR.

    Awesome! Especially that we’re getting three Vita games. I was about to buy Grim many times on my Vita and now I’m getting it for free. Also great that you are giving DAO for free as many people haven’t played the game and it may encourage those who have not yet bought Inquisition on their PS4 to get it. I have played both but I’m happy for those who haven’t

    There are (somewhat) decent points made on both sides of the fence on PSN’s last few months of “free” games. After thinking about it:

    Why not just give up licensing games you’ve been provisioning for the minority group of players and instead invest that money into improving your network speeds and stability? I think that’s a win for everyone.

    Only my 3rd month having PS+ and I have to say, when I got it in November, one of the best games I have played was on there for PS3, Mass Effect 2. I will grab Dragon Age as I have only played DA2. Have never played or even heard of the other games, so I’ll try em out. Yes, the lineup could be better, but I find it funny that people complain about free. And I may start buying other game lines because of these “crappy” PS+ games. People who complain about free appear to have no lives, and that’s just sad.

    Love to play grim fandango but as of 1/3/16 gauntlet and kings quest are the only ones showing up on ps plus, and the store as free, games which I already downloaded. Somebody please help I tried looking on the store instead of going to ps plus still no luck.

      Well the free games of January will go up on the 5th since it’s the first Tuesday of the month and it’ll take awhile on the 5th for the games to go up do on tuesday you should check around 4-5pm to see if the games are listed

    Seriously Sony? It’s been 2 years, I think your early adopters are due something of actual substance. For the love of all things holy, even a decent game from release days would be better than the garbage you perpetually spew and have the audacity to act like people paying for PS+ should be thankful to get for free.

      Unfortunately most people expect the $60 games to be on PS+. If a game is really that great to them, they should go buy it. From what I can tell, PS+ is supposed to be used to get people into playing a gameline, which it has done for me already once.

    People complaining about Grim, Dragon Age and MoH…buy yourself a Wii as its all you deserve.

    Grim in particular is a stand out and truly is one of the all time greats.

    First of all I guess people have different tastes. However I think this month is pretty disappointing, there’s only Grim Fandango and Dragon Age I care about, and I already own and have played both. Haven’t bothered to download and actually play any ps plus games for at least three months, usually seem to be dodgy indie games that I have no interest in. Fingers crossed for February!

    This vocal minority is getting so stale. PS+ is a SERVICE SUBSCRIPTION, not a monthly game subscription! Those days are gone. They left us when they got rid of the instant game collection. Now it is online play, cloud saves, auto updates, DEEP DISCOUNTS, and 2 free games per system. Complaint about free software with you subscription is just in poor taste. It feels of entitlement and ignorance. Ignorance of value. I got Arkham Knight with the Season Pass for $30. I could go on and on but its usually 65-75% off. At least 33%. Plus you keep anything you purchase. Not to mention the monthly fee allows you to retain access to your old plus games. We’re not entitled to choose what Sony markets to us. Some of these titles are chosen because they want them out there, they want people to see these devs and games. Tower of Guns, Rocket League, Rogue Legacy and many more would’ve been under my radar. This is great. If you want the best new games you have to BUY them. They aren’t going to sell you the console at a loss and then give you someone else’s multimillion dollar piece of art for free. Get over yourself. Go complain in a vacuum. The vocal minority needs to STFU. Period.

    acceptable, i just wish that we could skip a couple months free games and let Sony save up for a AAA. I don’t mind waiting for a good game, I just want a promise that we will eventually get a AAA. Fandango looks good, but the demo for hard ware wasn’t that fun so I don’t really want the full game. Also remember that time we got The Walking Dead Season 2? The sucked. It was extremely short. But on to more heartening news, ps4 plus is okay. Some of the 2D low graphic quality games are dissapointing though. But for such a low fee per year it makes sense that they have to give us low quality games. They have to take all that money and stretch it out into a couple games each month. Meaning for ps4 alone they have to pay for around 40 games a year to be given to players. I am including the free vita games we get to. Sense we usually get 3-4 games a month 40 sounds about right to me. Just give ps plus a couple years for ps4, once a couple AAA’s you haven’t bought get old and are ready to sell for free.

      2 games per system even. $40 a year. 6 games a month. That’s 72 games a year, excluding cross buys. Jusr above 50¢ a game and people complain. Not to mention you need it to play online with PS4. It’s just ignorant.

    This month was a real let down. Idk if im gonna renew my ps+ membership seems like sony been screwing over ps4 freebies all year i cant remember 1 i liked the ps3 has had a few gems but over the years seems like the game line ups and gotten lack luster and i hardly play online anymore so i can deal with the loss and save 60bucks lol

    i am disapointed that i changed from the ps3 to the ps4
    great games to download almost every month on the ps3 and only crappy games to download since i changed to the ps4.
    if this does not change i will find i hard to see the why i should subscribe to playstation plus

    AWESOME sales? Uhhh, I think that’s being very generous. Most of the sales prices the last several month can be had at retailers or many places online, if you know where to look. Sony also has a nasty habit of having a sale and then making that title the + title in a matter of days, ensuring that those who paid for the title are IRATE. Sony ALSO has a nasty habit of announcing titles in a sale and then REMOVING them a day later (this has happened multiple times).

    Sony- misleading at best….liars at worst.

    I’ll be honest, it’s your PS4 titles…

    I thought we’d get a good popular AAA title for Christmas, but it didn’t turned out to be the case.
    I thought, “well, they might have something awesome planned for January, let’s give it a chance”…
    Sadly it doesn’t feel like it at all.

    I feel let down because of all these “less interesting” indies.
    There are so many good games you could throw at us, like AC black flag, Knack, Killzone, Tomb raider, Infamous SS, other early PS4’s… or maybe you could do like before and do amazing deals with producers to get even newer games available.

    People don’t care as much about PS3 games anymore, PS4 and vita are to prioritize. At least that’s something I observed.

    This is my first year owning the Sony PS4 after feeling th xbox one was a huge step down from its earlier encarnation, the 360. However, Microsoft has proven it cares more about the free games it gives to its generations on both ends and gives games people genuinely want. Sony has continuously let me down this whole first year of my ownership and I’m considering to stop paying for play station plus if this is how we are treated. Where ps3 gets the actual worth while titles, and your paying customers on your other platforms just get games you wouldn’t sell regardless.

    I mean, Dragon Age: Origins is pretty cool.

    But I keep seeing the “Please leave us some feedback in the comments” where every month there is thousands-hundreds of thousands of comments complaining about the nonsensical indie games we get.

    Normally a company would see feedback and attempt to change something or voice their own opinion or reasoning behind their actions. But nothing as far as that.

    Why can’t we just get the same lineup as PSN JP, y’know where they get retail games for free a handful of months after their release.

    Pathetic line up yet again. It’s getting to the point that I know it’s highly likely gonna be disappointing well in advance. There hasn’t been a decent legit ” full disc” type title for PS Plus dwnld since Injustice: Gods Among Us. How long ago was that? We have every right to be both disappointed and ticked off… Newer PS Plus may not even realize this, but years ago when PS Plus was a legit real value, subscription holders would routinely receive a full disc title, a decent smaller digital indie, a PS One title, an add-on, and often some avatars and/or a cool theme to boot. Sadly, in retrospect, this level of quality & value was never intended to be maintained any longer than necessary to build up and acquire the desired number of regular subscribers. Maybe for the avid, younger online multiplayer fans there’s still some reedeming value, but for the older, more old school fan of the single player fare, there just doesn’t appear to be much to look forward to anymore. Sure, some will make their case and disagree, but I already know I’m far from alone in feeling this way. Ball’s in your court Sony, you wanna keep us Gen-X’ers as customers still or not?

    Unbelievable not only are they still giving us old indie games but now PlayStation has stated we will only be getting two a month instead of the four that they used to promise.Cant they see we are all unhappy with the selection of ps plus games we are getting.Sony ive kept with your consoles from ps1 and onwards and over the time ive spent a considerable amount of money.But if this carrys on you will lose customers that im sure of.Give us old ps2 games,ps3 games atleast give us some sort of AAA GAME.Another month very dissapointed.Ps plus this is for the players hhhmmm im starting to doubt that.Sort it out please.Happy 2016.

      Honestly, I’m happy, because I don’t have to pay for any of them. The problem with “high end users” is they like to complain about being given something, which is sad. But each to his own I guess. As for me, I’ll try out the games to see if I like them or not

    Honestly people…. As i agree these arent the greatest titles, i just dont understand all the complaining. Every month tons of negative feedback (which i also agree needs to be seen and responded to) and nobody sees the good in anything. Ive never played grim fandango, and am looking forward to trying it namelt due to the fact that it, as all the other games from ps plus, is free.

      I agree with you there. Sony is probably getting fed up with people constantly whining, yet said whiners don’t know when to shut up, so now they are paying for it in the end. I’ve never heard of Grim Fandango, but a few comments I read said it was good, so I’ll give it a try. Might like it, might not. But I’m glad they don’t put the AAA games on PS+ for one specific reason, the companies would stop making money and said games would die off. If a game is big enough that someone needs to complain about it not being free, they don’t deserve it, but that’s just me. PS+ put Mass Effect 2 out in November, which I had heard vaguely of, but never played it, so I tried it. Within the next month, I bought all 3 Mass Effect games with their DLCs. Seems to me that PS+ is doing what it was intended to

      Sony didn’t force you to pay to play online on the PS4, that was the individual game company. And getting to choose the PS+ games seems horrible, as they would have to do that for every person, which would cause too many problems in the end. And getting a free game of your choice would be the same as option A. You should try to start a post asking all of the players what games they actually like, take a poll, get feedback, actually do something other than complain so that Sony can actually see what the players would want. I actually might do something like that now that I think about it

    If you recall, about 3-4 months ago, Sony came out with a BIG ole press release/blog on this website, saying that we would now VOTE for a PS4 title every single month for PS PLUS. I believe that lasted all of ONE month or TWO months at most…..and then…the voting went away, WITH NO EXPLANATION FROM SONY!

    Sony does this vanishing act all the time. Sales titles that are advertised mysteriously disappear when the sale actually begins. No one says anything. There is ZERO accountability. Don’t ask….don’t tell…Sony style.

    The time to expect Sony to stand by their customers is OVER. That’s why I chose not to re-subscribe to PLUS and why I hope you all do too. SEND A MESSAGE. DON’T STAND FOR THEIR CRUDDY SERVICE THAT YOU *PAY* FOR!

    Good thing I have a PS4, XBOX ONE, and a WII U…
    I don’t see anything that interests me on the ps plus this month…
    On the Xbox One well… i haven’t checked the games for Gold so idk yet…
    On Wii U… well… we don’t get free games on that… but… i don’t have to pay to play online which is good.
    Either way, i have lots of games and I can’t complain on their offerings because even though we are paying for this service, I believe it’s not easy to bring those free games for all of us to download. If i don’t like their offering, then i just won’t download and that’s it… no harm done… there are still reduced prices on other games for us ps plus owners and such things like tha, so we shouldn’t be complaining. Gamestop sell used games for a low price so go there if you can’t get it for free.
    It’s true that they should give us better offerings, but let’s just wait and see what they will bring us in the future shall we?

    It is laughable how whiney and ignorant the majority of these comments are. They are free games. Enjoy them or don’t, but stop with the entitled me generation BS.

      Agreed. You will get people saying they aren’t free games because they pay 50 dollars a year but thats for the ability to go online with games and the games we get each month are just an added bonus. Beyond that its 13 cents a day roughly or 4 dollars a month so I can’t imagine how poor these people must be to complain about such a small amount of money.

      I know I easily save over 4 dollars a month with PS Plus discounts on games on the PSN store. I usually save an extra 20-30 dollars a month as I buy alot of digital games compared to the non PS Plus sale price. People just like to find reasons to complain tho so I guess that is their right.

      Most of us Plus users have been subscribers for many years prior to the launch of the PS4. When I joined, PS Plus was all about the games and discounts and various other perks. Then Sony announced Plus would be required to play online for PS4 users, but maintained we would still receive the same quality of “free games.” You see, Plus was not originally a pay-to-play service, and you can’t just whitewash its origins and retroactively make it so. It was a cool type of rental service. It was understood the “free games” were never REALLY free — they were ours for as long as we continued to pay the rental subscription. So, please, take your high and mighty attitude and disrespect to fellow users — who, by the way, are expressing their opinions exactly as Sony has asked them to — and kick rocks.

    The Ps4 database isn’t improving with independent games, and having us vote for games nobody enjoys just makes us angry. Give us a hit title or two.. even a low seller would be fine as long as it has decent development. Please, please give us a mainstream game. We’re already paying to play, and that isn’t being reflected in the titles made available. Heck even making a PS2 title free would be better than your current offers. And add to your Ps2 section. 10 titles? You’re a joke.. give us packs of 10 for the price you make us pay.
