Gravity Rush 2 Coming to North America on PS4

Hi, PlayStation fans. In addition to Gravity Rush Remastered coming to PS4 in February next year, I’m excited to announce Gravity Rush 2 is also coming to North America, exclusively on PS4.

In the sequel to the acclaimed PS Vita original, you’ll have brand new gravity-shifting options and combat mechanics at your disposal. Kat can now use three gravity styles that add more variety and combat options: Normal, Lunar, and Jupiter.

In Lunar style, the force of gravity is reduced, making Kat lighter and quicker. In Jupiter style, gravity is increased, slowing down Kat’s movements but making her more powerful. You can switch between Kat’s three gravity styles seamlessly to combine the styles into different combos for each situation.

Also new to Gravity Rush 2 is the Tag Battle system which pairs you up with an AI-controlled ally to take on the more serious opposition like Raven assisting Kat.

For all you fans who can’t get enough, Japan has a slightly extended gameplay trailer with a bit more footage of the various gravity styles and combat.

That’s all we can say for now, so I’ll leave the concluding words to Gravity Rush creative director Toyama-san himself, who has a message for you:

As you saw from the footage during the Paris Games Week press conference, you’ll be able to mix and match a wide variety of combat styles any way you want, so there’ll be enough action to please Gravity veterans and new players alike. And of course, there’s a whole lot more we haven’t shown you yet, so stay tuned!

  • I hate buying digital games. I love going through my collection from time to time and looking at the game cover and disc and having a nostalgia moment. It’s not the same with digital. Hopefully, a physical edition gets released later.

  • “you’ll have brand new gravity-shifting options and combat mechanics at your disposal”

Well that’s good. Gravity Rush quickly went from kinda fun to downright terrible because of how repetitive the combat was. Maybe there is hope for the sequel.

  • Why do people think that making it PS4 exclusive automatically means more sales? Tearaway Unfolded flopped on PS4 and SAO: Hollow Fragment was confirmed to have sold better on PS Vita than PS4 (despite the PS4 version costing only $20 versus the $40 price tag of the PS Vita version).

I have a PS4, but I’m skipping on Gravity Rush Remastered since I already have the PS Vita version. As for Gravity Rush 2, right now is low priority in comparison to other bigger name PS4 titles in the pipeline. On the other hand, if it were a PS Vita (exclusive or not), it would undoubtedly be among the highest priority of PS Vita owners.

  • You guys should make a physical release here for gravity rush remastered.

  • If there’s no physical copy I think I can wait until it gets a pretty discount on PSN. Or better yet, until it’s available as a free PS Plus game.

  • Any discounts if you already owned the PS Vita version?

  • any retail in EU?

    • Yes. EU is getting a physical release. (I believe a physical release is required there, judging from other physical releases that are digital only in the us (PC games))

  • Let me guess, not only are you guys shoving Gravity Rush Remastered out as a digital-only release, but you’re also going to do very little to promote or market it? So much for increasing the popularity of the franchise. Either way, a physical release would’ve been great, but making it a PS Store exclusive is perfectly understandable. You could have at least took the same route as Oreshika Tainted Bloodlines, and priced it really cheap to compensate, though. Thirty bucks seems a wee bit much for a mere remaster of a Vita game that’s being released digital-only, at that. BTW, Gravity Rush 2 is looking awesome!

  • Looks like I’ll only be supporting Gravity Daze going forward. Who the hell makes these idiotic digital only decisions?! They need to go pronto.

  • Despite all your efforts to kill the Vita Sony and the fact that you have no shame anymore in your greedy faces…Gravity Rush 2 is looking good and beautiful. Will buy the game, because it was a fantastic new IP on Vita and a game like this deserve support…besides that its JapanStudio and they got ma support FOREVER.

But remember this Sony what you did with Gravity Rush remains as the worst **** a company could ever do to betray and try to kill its own device…not only you strip Vita of one of its exclusives but you also recycle the original game shamelessly.Limits just aren’t in your knowledge anymore.

  • Ok basically the vita is dead … so thats sad to hear… Such a great machine.

    anyways… the thing is… why not co-op!
also i really hope for a Collectors edition of GR2 on NA.

  • Brian; Nick: Sure hope you learned something from my dedicated Playstation friends here. We need your guys’ help with informing PS of its many flaws too. So, cmon…

    Sincerely, -The Video Game “insider”

  • No Vita, No buy!
Also, where is the Vita suport, sony?
Every PS4 owner is a considerably buyer. And its a standalone good console itself. Accourding to VGCharts, 12,2 Million people bought your product and want more from you… (or gave up, like i will once i finish hyperdimention series)

  • I expect this will be as awesome as the first, but I gotta say.. the music is awful and incredibly unbefitting of the game.

  • We deserve a vita version too from the second game.

I dont care if come later after the ps4 version…… but I think the vita owners is deserve it….. If sony dont want to make big AAA title to vita… ok…. but please give them to the third party companies to create port just like Resident Evil Revelation 2 on Vita.

    we want vita port !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The policy of this blog of not responding to bad feedback, and the deleting of some comments is what makes Sony a petulant and arrogant company…

Don’t get me wrong, great platform, great games, great staff, etc… but the management is disgusting

  • I’m a HUGE fan of Japan Studio’s games and am really excited to play Gravity Rush 2, BUT IT BETTER BE A PHYSICAL RELEASE. Why do you keep shafting Japan Studio’s games Sony? I would have killed to have Soulsacrifice Delta and Oreshika on a cart or Gravity Rush Remastered on a disc. I love and collect thier games. Lately Japan studio is what kept me from selling the vita during that long drought. Have some damn faith in what I personally think is your most innovative studio (besides Media molecule).

  • salty as hell about the digital version for GR: Remastered same as i was for Ultra Street Fighter 4 dang man lol.

  • As a big fan of GR on PSVita, which I preordered, got Day 1, bought all the DLC, and platinum the game, it was already disappointing that GR2 was going to be PS4 only.

Now, GR Remastered is going to be digital only in NA despite GR being one of the best selling PSVita game. Yet a game like Tearaway managed to get a retail release (not saying it’s a bad game but it bombed in sales both on PSVita and PS4).

I rather not have to import but if it’s going to be digital only in NA, that’s what I will do.

  • If looking at these comments as a survey, around %85 of gamers will not purchase Gravity Rush Remaster if it stays as digital only. Ie. If it sells 15,000 copies digitally, it could’ve sold 100,000 if it had a physical copy. That’s the kind of sales you’ll be missing out.

Gamers want to get into GR2, but in order for them to get into the sequel they need to purchase the original, and most won’t purchase the GRR because it’s digital only, thus GR2 will result in low sales simply because the first was digital only. You see the chain reaction it can cause by just having digital only. The success or failure of Gravity Rush 2 will be defined by whether you choose to keep Gravity Rush Remaster as digital or fix this and make it digital.

    • I’m very disappointed that Sony would actually do something like this to their NA gamers while the rest of the world gets a physical copy (even a collectors), causing us to be jealous, angry and upset. Unfortunately I’ve lost my love and anticipation for this game/series and won’t be purchasing. I understand more so if this was a third party game where you don’t have much of a say, but don’t be like Nintendo of America where they just released Fatal Frame as digital only in NA, you should be better than that.

Sony’s slogan “This is for the players”, sadly doesn’t feel that way at all right now.

    • …and make it physical.*

  • Having no physical release is very upsetting. I’ll be importing from the UK I guess… Shame on you Sony. Please look at all the disappointed people in the comments and reconsider the digital only. I was ecstatic when I saw the confirmation that we would be getting the game only to feel like i got gut punched after seeing those two horrible words (digital only).

  • Just throwing in my voice, too: Please reconsider a physical release. Even if it was a limited run, please reconsider it and post it on the blog as soon as we can preorder it! I honestly hope you won’t ignore people who want a physical release, because I’d rather not pay to import it (but I will).

    Thanks!

  • I came here just to read the VIta users cry. Haha I was not disappointed.
I sold my PS VIta 2-3 months after launch and I haven’t had a single regret. Sometimes you just gotta know when to cut your loses and move on.

    • Hahaha… I choose to give it a chance and keep it for a while, but it has become harder and harder to sell overtime. Here in South America at least no one wants to buy a brick…

  • How come SCEA cares so little about their Japanese games? It’s like this every time. Not everybody is a dudebro, SCEA. Treat the IP with some respect will you?

  • already have the platinum trophy for the vita version and i´m highly anticipating the game for my ps4! hope it doesn´t take too long thou.

  • awesome game but no vita no buy

  • I’d love to see a fancy collector’s edition for GR2. Loved the first one and the second one looks fantastic.

  • I had a copy of GR1 on Vita from PS+. Loved the game so much I bought a copy of it. I really was looking forward to playing this on the big screen. I’ll wait as it is digital only.

Please don’t release GR2 as digital only.

  • So is there no way to get the Collector edition of the game? I so wanted that sweet statue, :(

  • WOO! I am pumped! I’ve been wanting to play this. As soon as Gravity Rush remastered comes out, I’m importing it from Europe!

  • Yeah, No Vita no buy.

GR is a big AAA game for the Vita, but it’s just a normal game on Ps4. If i have 60$, I will easily choose Fallout 4 or Assassin Creed, The witcher 3, uncharted 4,………. It’s much much better than GR

  • No Vita, No Buy. Sony thinks it knows better and that they’ll get more sales on PS4 exclusively. Good luck with that.

    • If you – or anyone else complaining about “No Vita, No Buy” – think the Vita is anything but dead, you’re sorely mistaken.

I’m just as sad as the next person that it wasn’t supported more, but after Persona 4 Dancing All Night, there’s nothing to keep playing the system for. All the games for it have been released and there’s nothing big in the pipeline for it.

      Let it be, it’s done.

Also, I find it hilarious that you expect a PS Vita version of Gravity Rush 2 to sell more than a PS4 exclusive version. Look up the numbers, there are simply more PS4 players than there every will be PS Vita players. They can also do more on PS4 than the Vita could ever hope of doing.

Like mentioned above – stop whining about the Vita. It’s done.

  • Nick, I hope Gravity Rush 2 will have a physical release. I have an awful connection most of the time. I’d like to buy a disc and put it in my PS4!

  • No vita no buy! SONY please don’t let the VITA have a young and tragic death!

  • Gravity Rush Remastered & Gravity Rush 2. <3
I played the 1st on PS Vita, I will have to get these both now. :)

  • Digital only? You guys have lost your minds. Everyone wanted the figurine for the remastered version. You guys better make a Collector’s Edition for Gravity Rush 2 with a figurine.

  • oh cool i can’t wait for either of them

  • Damn I’m honestly disappointed it’s not on the vita, gravity rush was the very first game that I owned on it and it’s that actual reason I fell in love with my vita, that and uncharted.

  • It’s unfair how both Sony and Team Gravity can do this to the Vita fans. We’re the reason Gravity Rush/Daze 1 became popular enough to lead to a sequel. You know, back with it was a vita only game. We Vita users are always getting attack by sony who cut support from the system and steal it exclusive titles like Tearaway and now Gravity Rush. You have a insanely priced memory cards for it. You don’t make announcements for anything new and proceed to wonder why it failed. Oh wait you gave a reason, blame Mobile gaming. *facepalm* No it was that, it was you. The 3DS is going a lot better cause it knows how to use it exclusive titles like mario, pokemon, and zelda. You tried in the begin but you never stuck it and began to make empty promises. Like Bioshock and Infamous on the vita. Then the PS4 was release hammering the final nail on the coffin.

  • Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $100 per hour. I work through this link. wallstreet34.com

  • This looks epic! I loved the vita version! Can’t wait!

everyone, this guy does US marketing, @yosp said on twitter to let him know,

Nick, Could you let him know as well, he has already commented that he knows a lot of people want a physical version and will look into it

  • NO VITA NO BUY Here too..
The Sony Slogan “This is for the Players” is just ridiculous since they dont listen to
The 12 milions of PS VITA Owners.

  • SOLD!!!!… :)

loved it on the VITA – the remake and the PS4 version day one buy!!

  • Everyone else gets collector’s editions and we don’t even get a physical release? What a bunch of [long string of expletives].

  • I’M BOYCOTTING THIS AND EVERY OTHER GAME THAT’S ONLY DIGITAL IN AMERICA ONLY. MY INTERNET SERVICE IS GARBAGE, THAT’S WHY I’VE BEEN BUYING PHYSICAL GAMES, AND UNABLE TO PLAY ALL OF THESE ONLINE ONLY GAMES THAT DEVS ARE FORCING DOWN THE THROATS OF PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF. IF THIS, OR ANYMORE GAME BECOME DITAL ONLY IN THE STATES, I’M SELLING MY PS4, BECAUSE IT’S GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE IT’S EASIER TO JUST PLAY PC ONLY. SONY MICROSOFT, AND NINTENDO ARE ALL BEGINNING TO BECOME IRRELEVANT WHEN THEY DO THIS, AND IT’S REALLY PISSING ME OFF NOW. WITH DIGITAL ONLY WHY DO I NEED A CONSOLE WHEN DIGITAL CONTENT ON STEAM IS CHEAPER, AND I CAN GET A REFUND ON STEAM IF THE GAME IS UNPLAYABLE. THIS GAME WAS THE ONLY REASON WHY I KEPT MY PS4, TO HELL WITH THESE CONSOLES!!!

  • Just go ahead and take my money.

  • It’s like you guys are trying to kill of the PS Vita or whats left of it. Wtf Sony..

  • Digital only, huh? Well, I guess I can take this one off of my list.

  • Good job Sony…no vita version.
I’m not….I swear I’m not buying or supporting this game.
God you screwed up, like how could you move a sequel off the handheld it was original debuted on?

    God….so done. I’m just so….so done
Delete my comment if you want but the truth hurts. GL with GR2.
