What makes treasure hunting even more appealing? Treasure hunting with friends! Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris leads the lineup of free PS Plus games for August, which includes four games that are playable on PS4. Which games, you ask? Well, you’ve come to the right place…

Temple of Osiris follows in the footsteps of Guardian of Light, with fast-paced cooperative play, head-scratching puzzles, and glorious treasure. Traverse the dangerous environments solo, or with friends, and guide Lara on yet another supernatural adventure.

Also up for grabs is the critically-acclaimed Limbo. This haunting story has captured the hearts and minds of gamers around the globe — and has chilled a fair number of spines. If you have a fear of spiders, be prepared to cover your eyes.

If that sounds a bit too unnerving, jam out and get creative with Sound Shapes — which is also available on PS3 and PS Vita. Sound Shapes revolves around musical platforming, fantastic visuals, and a powerful level creator.

Rounding out the PS4 offering for this month is Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones, which is also available on PS3 and PS Vita.This puzzle platformer tasks you with escaping a dangerous research facility in which death is readily distributed to your hapless clones.

Also, joining the August lineup are God of War Ascension (PS3) and CastleStorm (PS3, PS Vita), ensuring that you have plenty of gaming to keep you busy this month.

These games are available to PS Plus members starting on Tuesday next week. Enjoy!

    For those of you saying we have had worse months; you’re right. But also saying this lineup doesn’t suck is a joke. It is the best of a bad situation at best. Not once have I thought “oooooo I can’t wait to download (title) when I get paid Friday!” They’re free because no one wants them. Sure, I’m grateful to have games to play. And I’m sure I will have a bit of fun. But I’m paying a subscription just for the free games. My choice, I know that, but at the same time how about some decent titles? Some different genres (by different I mean way different) give us a nice shooting game, maybe a puzzle, a sports game and something like an RPG. Last months lineup was fantastic compared to this, and it sucked as well.

      Yeah. Can’t take you seriously. We’ve had rogue like tower defense, soccer with race cars, JOURNEY, transistor for free which is a story driven third person adventure puzzler, limbo which is a fantastically well designed art driven puzzle 2D puzzle platformer and those are just the ones I actually got around to playing in THE LAST THREE MONTHS. I won’t label you a troll, but I will at least say that you are impossible to please and I truly hope you find happiness in life.

    Styx was pretty fun, challenging, and kept me busy all month. Rocket league seemed boring but grew to be a fun game to play with friends locally. Entwined blew. Sure its pretty, with calming music, but I’ve seen people say it was challenging (they must have terrible motor skills). The cat mouse game wasn’t my thing but offered something different. But this month? Tomb Raider is played out since the ps1, just my opinion, I’m sure tons of you love it. But why give us crap titles for all 4 downloads? Limbo is alright but who hasn’t played it already? It just feels like Sony is taking a handful of B games and putting them into a brown paper digital bag, putting it on my doorstep, setting it ablaze, and laugh while I download my hand delivered crap o’ the month. GIVE US SOME QUALITY TITLES SONY! PLEASE! with all that being said, I’m glad to have games to play, thanks Sony.

      I almot agree except i was looking at castle storm a week ago and was going to buy it when i heard it was to be free in August well come to find out it is going to be… For PS3 and Vita. Umm Sony why do I feel like we PS4 players been getting let down with the games we’ve gotten compared to PS3/Vita aren’t you trying to encourage your customers who may still own only a PS3/Vita to get a PS4? Just a thought…

      Please understand I loved Limbo it was a great great game though short BUT I belive it has zero replayablity and even WATCHING a playthrough spoils what made the game good, a lack of knowing what happens next and it is because of this and the fact the game has been out a couple of years thus giving many people the chance to purchase or watch this game that I believe Limbo should not have been a free game for this month and maybe instead it should have been oh I don’t a AAA title?

    When are you idiots going to realise that £5.99 per month is not free!
    I’ve only download 2 games in the past year, first light and rocket league. I’m not getting much for my money as I don’t play online either, why do I have a subscription? Because I like to get platinum trophies and some games have 1 or 2 online trophies that ruin games, especially when servers are shut down so platinum is no longer available.
    Ps plus used to offer top games but now you need to play online they have everyone by the bollox, try to remember that ps plus was primarily to offer top games

    GoW Ascension is THE WORST game of the saga, lame history, unbalanced by all means… there are partes where you would sweat your a** and course a lot, but eventullay all leads to a lame boss/ending. Is not something I would like to give/recieve as a present, anyway, thanks.

    I’m PS3 only, so…

    Stealth 2 is nice, though I have yet to play the first one. XD (I think I actually own it from some long-ago sale.) GoW Ascension is nice, too. Ridiculous file size, but it’s there as an option if I happen to run out of games.

    My only mild disappointment was finding out Lara Croft wasn’t available for PS3. :P (I did enjoy Guardian of Light for what it was: a nice little top-down couch co-op action game.)

    Overall it’s a pretty strong lineup. If you buy the indies you want right away or on sale you may find very little to like about Plus games. And not everyone has played Limbo; many never had a PS3 or Vita. Those who have yet to try it are in for a treat. Same goes for Sound Shapes.

    As always I (mostly) understand people’s individual dislikes of this month’s offerings.

    i agree this is an awesome selection for ps owners, i just made the switch from xbox so seeing god of war as a free game makes me realize i made a good decision. xbox never really had great free games. im sad to see that i can’t get lc because i only have ps3 but i am very thankful for gow! played it before. hopefully with the vote to play option coming soon that everyone complaining about the list seems to forget about that we can get even better games. i mean the free games are cool for some but not for all so for the price of ps plus i would like to see some top games available for ps3 owners as well.

    Let’s be honest… there’s two good games sounds and shapes and god of war. I was hoping to see resident evil or something really good. Alien would of been better too one day though

    I know I’m a little late to the party, but I REALLY don’t get the vitriol.

    If you’re upset, it’s because you have made video games such a huge part of your life. It’s because you have unrealistic expectations. It’s because of you!!! Stop lashing out. Change your life if you’re so unhappy with everybody else! lol

    Besides, we’re talking about 72 games per year for $50.00. You just got GoW: Ascension for $1.44. You just got Stealth Inc. 2 for $1.44. You just got Temple of Osiris for $1.44.

    Seriously, what are you complaining about! Get over it!

      Of course, that’s great news if people are looking only at the strict monetary value of games. Most aren’t. What difference does it make if God of War is $0.69 or $69,000,000 if I don’t care to play it?

      Some people will never be satisfied, and there’s not much to be done about it. But for everyone with a right to their happiness at this month’s lineup, there’s an equal right to voice one’s displeasure.

      BTW, I kinda like this month’s lineup. (See my post 8 up from yours.)

    It would be GREAT if Sony released the PS+ games on the FIRST of the month, as opposed to …whenever. Also knowing what the games are a week before release would be great..or a month.

      With very few exceptions (none come to mind), Plus games are added on the first Tuesday of every month along with the rest of the day’s store update.

      These preview posts generally come on the last Wednesday before the games are added. So there will always be about 6 days to wait once the game list is posted.

      Now, knowing that won’t help the games come out any faster. But it might help anyone who feels the new Plus games arrive on some random day. Might seem like they do, but no.

    Why won’t Castle Storm be free on the PS4 when it is onPS3 AND Vita? Is it because only the definitive edition is on PS4? If so why isn’t there a standard edition of Castle Storm on the PS4? Please respond.

    I love this line up.
    Those criticizing it don’t know what great games are, all they want is the newest “Call of Duty”.
    I was surprised to see “God of War: Ascension” on this list, because it is such a new and amazing game. And the rest of these games are all great.

      Because of PS Plus, I’ll now get to experience Limbo and God of War Ascension. The cost of those two titles alone probably equals over 25 bucks, so I’d say PS Plus is turning out to be a good deal already for me.

    Limbo is awesome. Played it twice straight through on X360 and I am excited to experience that masterpiece again. I would love for a spiritual successor in the same art style and gloomy atmosphere. Not a sequel, that game is to well packaged as a stand-alone piece of art that a Limbo 2 would feel awkward.

    New PS Plus member here – bought my PS4 a couple of weeks ago. Gotta say, 50 bucks a year is a small price to pay for the amount of games we’re getting with our annual subscription. When I see people complain about this – like they’re some entitled god of the world – it just makes me shake my head in disappointment. The amount of savings I’ve made in just two months has already made up for the cost of the subscription for the entire year.

    I pay more than 50 bucks a month just to have an internet connection, let alone paying that for a whole year to play games I probably wouldn’t buy normally – like MouseCraft – which turned out to be a lot of fun. Limbo is another title I wouldn’t normally purchase due to the length.

    You just can’t please people. If they received pants as part of a subscription service, they would moan and complain that the zipper is too dark.

    Rant all you want about how you’re getting “ripped off.” I’ll be busy enjoying something new.

    Oh, and just so you know, World of Warcraft is 77 bucks every 6 months. So who is really getting ripped off here?

      The annual cost is only made up if the games given out monthly have value to the subscriber. If I had to choose between garbage and nothing, I’d choose the nothing, while saving money and space.

      There is no comparison between an infinitely useful internet service and a PS+ service which doesn’t even let you change your username.

      Heh only chance of getting a good game is via PS3, best forget about PS4 getting any. PS4 doesn’t have a collection of give away games except for Indies. Besides, they already got PS4 owners due to Multiplayer.

    People can speak of “entitlement” and say “Sony can’t always please you every month” all they want, while I and the rest of the consumers who aren’t happy can just cancel our subscriptions to PS+ :)

    This isn’t a free2play game forum, we’re spending actual money on a service we expect to satisfy us. If that doesn’t happen, then we leave.

    Sony could easily fix this whole problem of selection by simply changing the policy from statically chosen games to instead issuing a credit for a free game of the member’s choosing, based on their subscription tier. As is, if Sony offers titles that don’t have mass appeal, then it’s going to leave a lot of subscribers feeling like they’ve been ripped off.

    What’s with all the indy games?

    Some people love them I guess, but personally I think most of those titles belong on Android, and not on an 8 core monster like either the PS4 or XB1. Every time I look at the PS Store and see it mostly filled with games that I wouldn’t even play on my phone, it makes me question my decision to buy-in, all over again.

    I think it’s a great line up. I don’t know why players expect so much more.. It’s a subscription “bonus”. It’s not like we are gonna get some major hit that’s originally pricey. I’m absolutely fine with this. I’ve wanted Limbo since I first saw it on XBOX years ago.

    Wtf why does ps3 get such good games and they leave ps4 with such bad games. We just payed a ton of money to buy a ps4 and they leave the older gen with all the good games. And they make so much money from all the people buying these consoles and they wont even give us good games. xbox one just got assasins creed black flag and they payed 100 dollars less for there consoles wtf. They get 60 dollar games and we get 5 dollar games. Playstation please give us better games.

    when do we get Retail Games like Assassins Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends, Last of Us give for Multiplayer, Killzone, Knack.

    @Everyone who says playstation plus is for online along with deals, and games are extra:

    I can get better deals and get more stable online on pc gaming for free, psn doesn’t even work 99% of the time, the moment games stop being offered, I along with tons of others will jump ship for playstation plus, it’s worth it at what they are giving now but if they dropped the games, bye bye subscription and hello me asking for my money back for the current duration of my playstation plus.

    The PS4 games that have been coming out absolutely suck, the more or less enjoyable are those for PS3 and don’t run in PS4.

    I’m so disappointed with PS4… these are kids games and I think they should remember that there is a (not so small) universe of older gamers to which these games are just …. not interesting lets say.

    It was late morning/late afternoon last month on release. They’ll be released today, just may have to be slightly more patient. Luckily for me I work til the evening so I’ll download them from work so I can hop on them when I get home.

    I am pretty satisfied with this lineup of games. I don’t understand the hate that people throw towards Sony for these. Some complain that some line ups are for children or some lineups have games they don’t enjoy; the lineups are supposed to hit different demographics and genres that way nobody is left out. I get that if people don’t enjoy a service they’ll cancel but they have to try to hit everyone not just one person.

      i do often keep that in mind tom my issue is when they switched how they were running ps+’s igc ps3 would be getting 2 AAA titles each month, i kind of had a hope that sony would do some fan service to ps3 owners with some great games (i wouldnt care how old they are or even if i already owned them) it could easily be argued by parents there were to many “adult” titles being released

    its kind of funny seeing them advertise playstation vue after seeing whats become of ps plus and ps3’s will pretty much be abandonware in a year or 2 i have no intention of investing in it and i honestly don’t see any reason to, how many free channels will ps+ subscribers get, none? oh, will they pay alot less than non ps+ members? no?! well i mean this wont cause my system to burn up will it? yes, yikes!

    @MisterWillow I agree with you, they should separate Plus from online fees. On the other hand, I’ve been a Plus subscriber since 2012, and back then, I was already angry at the lineups because Europe would always get better games. Now it has gotten even worse, of course, but Plus was never really great as we would want.

    My rant now is about great games are been given to Ps3 players, while Ps4 gamers get the same indie BS every month. Ok, Rocket League was awesome, and last month they also finally gave up Drive Club (which you either already had it, or you didn’t even want it anyway).

    I’m angry because I sold my Ps3 to buy a Ps4, and I can’t even play on ****ing Ps Now because it is not available in my country. And ps3 gamers are get fricking GOD OF WAR! All ps3 freebies this year were awesome!
