The Elder Scrolls Online Beta Starts Tomorrow on PS4

Hello, PS4 Players! With the worldwide console launch of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on June 9th just a little over six weeks away, tomorrow we’re kicking off the pre-launch festivities with the console beta. This is a limited public beta — it will be our one beta before launch, and you must receive an invite to participate. Prepare to explore the vast expanses of Tamriel with your friends, game-subscription-free, for the first time on PS4!

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

Read on to learn more about the ESOTU console beta test. Those invited will also receive additional details in the invite email. If you have questions about the beta test that aren’t covered below, please leave a comment — we’ll do our best to answer!

What is the ESOTU console beta test?

This is a limited, closed public beta. You must receive an invite to participate. We are sending invites to some of those who signed up for the ESOTU PS4 beta (not everyone who signed up will get an invite.)

When is the ESOTU console beta test?

The ESOTU console beta test opens on Thursday, April 23rd at 10:00 AM Eastern and ends on Monday, April 27th at 10:00 AM Eastern.

When will invites for the ESOTU console beta test be sent out?

Invites start going out today, so check your inbox. Don’t forget to check your spam box, too (Just in case!) We strongly advise that those invited start downloading the game as soon as possible.

Is there an NDA in place for the ESOTU console beta test?

Nope! There is no NDA in place for this beta test, so we encourage participants to share screenshots and livestream until your heart’s content.

Will my characters from beta carry over to the live version of ESOTU on PS4?

Unfortunately, no. We will be wiping all characters from the PS4 ESOTU console beta before the official worldwide launch on June 9th. If you are eligible for the PC/Mac to PS4 transfer, your characters will be waiting for you on the PS4 megaservers at launch. Otherwise, you will be creating new characters on launch day.

Is this a cross-console beta test?

No, PlayStation players will have their own megaservers — one for North America and one for Europe. For the beta (and at launch), you will be able to choose which one you want to play on. Characters are unique per megaserver.

How many megaservers are available during the PS4 ESOTU beta test? Can I choose which one I want to play on?

We will have two megaservers for PS4, one for North America and one for Europe. You may choose which one you want to play on.

Will we be playing the full game during the ESOTU console beta test, or only parts of it?

Everyone participating in the ESOTU console beta test will have access to the full console version of the game, not a slimmed down version.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

Remember, there is no NDA for this event so we encourage everyone on PS4 to stream the beta over Twitch or UStream by using your PS4’s built-in share capabilities. We’ll be on the lookout for great streams to share!

In celebration of the upcoming PS4 launch on June 9th, we also have a handful of shiny new screenshots to share with you. You can see all these locales and more during the beta and at launch. Which one are you most looking forward to seeing yourself?

Don’t forget, the PS4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is also available for pre-order now on PlayStation Store.

We look forward to seeing many of you in Tamriel for the ESOTU console beta test, and in June at launch.

  • Holey smokes!! I just got my beta invite email. I never thought I’d get one. You never get to do these things yourself. It’s always others who are the fortunate ones. I’m so excited to get startet with this. I think, and hope, that it’ll be an awesome game

  • am I seeing this right? The Beta download is 39gb as well as a 15gb update file total of 6hrs to download it all. Not to bad I guess :-)

    • It does take a bit to download (even for us here at ZOS on our home consoles.) ESOTU is a pretty massive game. :)

  • So I signed up for the ps4 beta before the pc beta came out that means I have a chance to get into this beta right?

  • Maybe, my email with my beta key only come through 15mins ago. So there’s still hope peeps.

  • Just got a Beta key. Thanks

  • Signed up within the first 5 minutes of being announced last year and of course I don’t receive a key!!!

  • Aww. I didn’t even know you guys were taking beta signups until now. And now it’s too late lol. Woulda loved to get in on this. Oh well. Maybe another day/game :)

  • What time do the invites stop going out?

    • BbJVity, it’s looking like they will continue into tomorrow. We had a bit of a delay on starting to send them out. We’ll be happy to let everyone know once the last invites go out.

  • So I put in my code, and then was told I didn’t have enough space. I cleared space, and when I try to access it through my Library on my PS4, it comes up blank and I am unable to initiate the download. Any idea why this is, and how to fix it?

    • Hmm…could you try entering the beta code again in the store? See if that works? It might not have taken due to the full space.

  • Cool, can’t wait to test it.

  • I’ve played in both of the PC beta’s the most recent one this passed weekend.. I hope I get into this one as well, I’m curious to see how it translates to console.. esp with the hotkey skills.. though I’d assume that they end up assigned to the d-pad or something..

  • I received the invite asking me which console but have yet to receive my code? I’m kinda getting antsy about it. Any help? Thank you–Matthew

  • Hey, ive seleted my preferd platform a while ago but i see no invite yet? have they all already been sent?
or will some still be being sent out?

Since im a Youtuber i was hoping to do a few videos on the game and possibly some live streaming, either way im so looking foward to playing it on ps4!!!

Ive already pre ordered the game, ive played every single elder scrolls game since morrowind, i still have the limited edition of oblivion on ps3 :)

    thanks ;)
    See you all in Tamriel

  • @40 – I did address that, which is why you responded to me again. Talk about “idiot”.. you don’t even know what you’re saying as you’re saying it.
They never fixed Skyrim’s issues, and if you platted it, then you should know that. They made a patch to prevent the save file issue from getting any worse, but those of us who had already been playing enough to have their save file grow to 13MB+, we still continued to suffer the worst framerates ever seen on the PS3. It’s just something we had to get used to. What ever happened to quality assurance? Not only is it okay now to release a broken game, because it can be patched, but it’s become okay to not fix a game, because sales have already been achieved and the minor loss of profit due to the bugs is inconsequential.
We all know there are amazing game studios who provide tons of support for their games post-launch, and we love them for it. Bethesda? They couldn’t care less. It’s really a bummer, too, because they do produce some of the best games out there.

  • @47 – So, you’re one of those people who logs in just to complain about other commenters instead of posting something on-topic? Seems to me that you are working to achieve the very thing that you are accusing me of. Good job.

  • Thanks for all the responses to everyone on the blog Jessica, it’s nice to see someone taking the time to talk to the community about their launch/beta.

I know you mentioned you will let us know when all the keys gave gone out… Please do, that way those of us who are still holding out hope of getting in will know. I’d really appreciate the heads up.

I signed up early and filled out the survey as soon as I received it, so I’m still hoping to find a key in my inbox, maybe by tomorrow as you said. Thanks for your time.

  • Hopefully we get at least another update b4 the game comes out

  • I hope you will send this invitation to me )) becouse I want so much to play something new !!! I will wait your mail …all day

  • Already been used error. The code took fine. The game is listed in my library, but when I select it, the cover image changes to a controller silhouette, and the Overview, Recent Activity, and Related Items all say “No Content Was Found”, and the title doesn’t even show on the top of the screen.

  • Meh. I’m still waiting on a single player Elder Scrolls game. I played the crap out of Skyrim, but I despise the very concept of MMO’S. Sorry, but I won’t be buying this one.

  • Closed betas are silly, why can’t you just make it a limited to all open beta some then people that have not decided whether to get the game or not can get a feel for the game and decide. I mean if it’s a fantastic game then let everyone experience it so more people will purchase the game and go preorder it. I mean I’m a huge elderscrolls fan but I’m not big on mmos so I’m not sure this game will be my thing and I have countless friends that feel the same way and we shall not be able to get a feel for the game without a open beta so therefore a lot of people just might not get the game at all because face it games arnt cheap and there is a lot of competition and not everyone can just go and buy every game out there. Me personally I just don’t understand the concept of a “closed beta” it’s just outcasting the majority.

  • can’t wait

  • I just got my code will play the game tomorrow.

  • @71 – I agree with you. I can understand Starting with a closed beta so they can see how their servers will hold up, but holding an open beta – or better yet, a free trial – later would be ideal. FFXIV has a free trial and it’s convinced a lot of skeptics invest money in the game.
All games should be try-before-you-buy. The only reason it makes sense for a game to not have a demo is if the publisher or developer has no confidence in it. Does anyone besides me remember that Sony said ALL PS4 games would have demos? I’m really beginning to believe I only imagined that because I haven’t seen a single gamer bring that up. There have been many broken promises, and what seemed to be Sony’s best console is unfortunately becoming its biggest dud. Sure, console sales are impressive, but PS3 just felt so much stronger in many ways.

  • I’ll definitely try this out, but when are we getting Kingdom Under Fire 2 beta

  • Haven’t received my invite within the UK, filled out the preference form as soon as I saw it on my phone! Hope I get in I loved Antrim but I had that on Xbox when I switched over from my PS3.. Can’t wait to try this out hopefully on my ps4!

  • Skyrim** auto fail lol

  • I got an email for th beta with code but when I try to redeem code it say invalid wrong region/country which sucks!! I’m from New Zealand btw

    • Havock, could you please make sure you’re redeeming the code for the region it’s for? Oceanic folks are definitely welcome to participate, but the codes are either for North America or Europe, and they must be redeemed in the same system. Could you check to see if maybe that’s the problem?

  • I never got one…

How do we sign up? Or are the invites handed out randomly to PSN users?

You had to have already signed up for the ESOTU console beta in order to be eligible for an invite into the upcoming beta test. Unfortunately, we are not taking any more sign-ups.

    What is today’s date?

Hey everyone! Welcome to the Beta! Unfortunately this is not news because you can’t get access & you will have to wait for the June 9th Launch! Suckers

  • GOT AN INVITE!!! YES! Cannot wait!!! Tomorrow!!!

  • This sucks been waiting to play ESO for too long. So many release date delays for the console, and now i can’t play the damn beta .. I’m sure sign up for the beta though :(

  • I don’t know what is worse. Not getting a beta invite, or getting a beta invite only for it to not let me download it to my system. I was wanting to try it out before I preordered it. Guess that won’t be happening now.

  • @FoggyRock try make a new psn account but say you live in US I had to do that to download it and it works, my main psn is New Zealand btw

  • anyone know how long they are sending out beta keys, been watching my e-mail all day lol

  • @Havoc_NZ the code worked fine. It has a display error in my games library, and it won’t let me start the download. So I have a different issue. Which nobody else seems to have. Weird.

  • I got the email that asked me what console i prefer, chose ps4, no invite yet,
I did the pc beta, but my computer wasn’t able to do anything so i didn’t complete any surverys, does this mean i willl not be allowed into the beta? I signed up in the beginging, and when there was the sign up for the console beta, i just didn’t have the computer power to play it,
Am i out of luck, or are invites still coming ?

  • I dunno i got no invite yet this sucks i really wanna play

  • I really want to like this game… I haven’t played, but I am intrigued. I love the Elder Scrolls games, especially Skyrim. I hate MMOs through. Mainly for how they control. Does this control more like a traditional ES game or more like an MMO (with cool downs and hot bars etc)?

  • For the gameplay I’ve seen play alots skyrim

  • Hope to get one! Signed up and filled out the survey!

  • Signed up last year and sadly haven’t even gotten an invite…I was super excited to play the game

  • I just wanna know on how long it takes to be accepted or declined for the beta console testing. I would love to play the beta of elder scrolls. I signed up a while ago

  • What he said ^^

  • try make a new psn account but say you live in US I had to do that to download it and it works, my main psn is New Zealand btw

  • Whoops my bad

  • Received my code at about 4pm CST and it’s still downloading! Such a big file. But the end result will be amazing. I can’t wait to get in on this game after work tomorrow! If you haven’t received your code, hang in there! The wait is worth it! I have been wanting this since the initial release date back in 2014! I am a die hard Elder Scrolls fan no matter who made it!

  • At least I’m not the only one who feels that lol

  • So cool~ :)

  • Hopefully I get a code I’ve been waiting for this game forever! I love elder scrolls!!
