The Drop: New PlayStation Games for 4/14/2015
The Drop

If you’re the least bit squeamish, you may want to cover your eyes — the iconic fighting series is back, along with its wince-inducing collection of finishing moves.

Mortal Kombat X storms onto PS4 this week with eye-popping graphics (in some cases literally), a new style variation system, and a huge roster of fighters. Like its 2011 predecessor, Mortal Kombat X retains many of the elements that gamers fell in love with back during the original run, but with enhanced control and new bone-crunching X-ray attacks. And by enabling players to select between three different styles for each fighter, the already sizable collection of combatants just about triples.

If Mortal Kombat X is a little too graphic for your tastes, consider the retro-inspired Titan Souls. In this ambitious indie project, players only have a single arrow to defeat monstrous bosses and explore a strange and wondrous world.

For a full list of games coming to PlayStation this week, read on. And enjoy The Drop!

  • If it wasn’t for Mortal Kombat X, there would have been more trolling in this blog.

@yowzagabowza Still trying to make yourself look like a fool. How I pity you.

@JBLeh Don’t mind him. He’s just a worthless little troll trying to make a fool of himself. Bet he has no friends.

  • Can’t wait to play Gradius V. In Treasure I trust.

  • So does this mean i can use my GTA game disc to play now on PS3? I’m not rebuying same games again when i ready own them on disc for PlayStation 2 now.

  • #indiestation3.5

  • I take back what I said on my previous comment. Even with Mortal Kombat X coming in 2 days, the trolling still continues.

    ENOUGH WITH THE TROLLING ALREADY!

  • Between Gradius and Mortal Kombat, my PS3/PS4 fightstick’s gonna see some use! I’ll have to finish Axiom Verge tomorrow! Noticing we’ve got yet another Air Hockey game coming to the Vita, and I’m hoping to put the bug in someone’s ear that I’m willing to pay money for a proper hockey game on the Vita, licensed or not. Even NES-style Blades of Steel would be good. REAL HOCKEY! No AR junk! Please!

  • @38: The bassist of the band directed the launch trailer.

  • MORTAL KOMBAT X FOR PS VITA???

  • I hope it better than previous ones!

  • Titan Souls is what actually needs a DEMO so I can make sure its not STUPID HARD and actually playable! Until then, NO CHANCE of purchase!

  • I want to play Dragon Quest VIII PS2 classic, any chance?

  • got MKX pre loaded.

  • Why can’t we play PS1 and/or PS2 classics on PS4 yet?

So many titles I’d love to play, GTA: The Trilogy PS2 Classic Bundle being a BIG one, but cannot on Sony’s newest PS4.

Anything to do with PS Now I wonder…?

  • So is the GTA Trilogy going to be on PS4 or just the PS3 or Vita?

  • Look at those nice PS2 classics that we can’t play on PS4 nor Vita!

  • @ElektroDragon There is a demo on Steam. Almost any PC can run it, so get it from there.

  • Since the trolling on the PS Blog won’t stop, I will copy and paste this hashtag on every single comment I post until it stops.

    #StopPSBlogTrolls

If possible, make sure you copy and paste on your comment so I know you’re not one of them.

  • Mortal Kombat X is going to be an awesome one. I even asked my boss to give me the day off, and he did. Can’t wait, just a few more hours!

  • Great more useless indie garbage instead of good Japanese games which we need more of on the Vita.

Please stop filling the Vita with this western garbage and have some sales on some good Japanese games like Demon Gaze.

  • Gradius V! If I had to choose one single game as the greatest ever made, it would be this. Utterly brilliant shooter with a staggering attention to design detail. I still have my original copy from 2004, but I’ll definitely be downloading this so I don’t have to connect my PS2 every time I get an urge to play.

I was one of the second prize winners in the high score contest that ran after the release. Got a promotional DVD, Gradius V T-shirt, and a congratulatory letter from Konami. [/brag]

  • I know it’s not gonna happen, but I would love to get the GTA Trilogy on my Vita. I don’t have a PS3, only a ps4, and when it comes to classics (both ps one and ps2), I always feel like I am missing out. There’s ps one classics like MGS and Silent Hill that I can’t play on the Vita and Ps2 classics I can only play when it’s a re release in HD.

  • Ole from Rain games here- We’re still working on the Vita port of Teslagrad- It’s taking some more time than anticipated, but we refuse to release it before we can get it as polished as we want it to be.

It’s definitely still coming out for vita, but expect it to take a few months- we’ll announce a release date when it’s closer to completion, Thanks for your patience!

  • I already took tomorrow off of work so I can spend the next full day playing Mortal Kombat X. And, since I have a Vita, I will be able to play anywhere I can get a Wifi connection at. THAT is going to be awesome.

  • Americans complain way to much never appreciative.

  • Can’t wait for Mortal Kombat X
I was able to preload yesterday so now i got the game fully instaled to play it today at night :D
Thx for da drop Ryan :D

  • OMG, thank you for Gradius V!!! I still have my PS2 copy (which was hard to find even back then, and goes for $50-100 today). Excellent game, and IIRC, the only one in the series (other than the NES spinoff “Lifeforce”) to feature co-op play.

This is exactly the sort of game that should be coming out more frequently in the PS1/PS2 Classics line — highly-regarded and hard to find titles.

  • I’d like to see all remaining Lego games make it to the store, specifically the Indiana Jones series.

Nice to see even more classics rolling in. PS4 demos, too.

Kinda pointless IMHO to have the GTA trilogy digitally when there’s no real difference between that and having all three individual games. I bought all three for around $7.50 total a while back. Just an observation.

  • Is the GTA trilogy going to be available for PS4 or just PS3? It doesn’t say.

  • fudge95: Mortal Kombat pre-loaded on my PS4 last night.

  • Oh I can’t wait for Titan Souls!!! This shall get me the BS that is work. Now Ryan, any word on Super Time Force Ultra, BroForce, and Enter The Gungeon?!

  • PlayStation, can you plz make the rating more like facebook or twitter ? the 5 stars rating kinda annoy me :(.

  • @19 Many of these would be great options for Sony to provide, they would be really convenient for me and many other users, but the first one seems more like an important feature than a wish-list entry / generous giveaway to me. I second the call for “Please give us 2 step verification for PSN”.

I remember the radio stations being really clever in those earlier GTA games. They can still be funny in GTA V but often just as a callback to the originals. The graphics were fantastic at the time, now they are shockingly crude, but I think I convinced him that it would be worth a few bucks to pick up the “GTA Trilogy bundle” even if he just spends a few hours driving around listening to the radio. The gameplay was amazing too (at the time, and surely at least some of it still holds up), think of that as a bonus.

  • “I think I convinced him” = a friend that has never played any previous GTA games and doesn’t think the radio chatter is particularly hilarious. I just suggested that he buy this bundle, somehow I edited that part out of my post.

  • @78 oh, that brings up a good point, there haven’t been any PS2 classics made available for the PS4 yet. So I suspect my friend won’t be getting this bundle after all.

  • Gradius V/GTA Trilogy: It doesn’t specify which platform because it’s understood these will run only on a PS3. It’s unfortunate that PS4s and Vitas are incapable of running PS2 Classics, but there you are.

And I can see the GTA Trilogy as having a point after all, if only to save people a few bucks vs. buying all 3 separately. This is especially true when paying full price. I would actually recommend the trilogy to GTA first-timers. You’ll love GTA III, and that love will only grow with each subsequent entry in the series.

  • Thanks for Gradius V!!! I still have the disc but will buy the game just to support these kinds of releases. SONY – is there any way that we can get a utility that will convert PS2 memory card saves into PS2 Classic format and vice versa? I managed to accomplish this with my Disgaea save (not looking to play 200+ hours of that again!) Problem is… it requires numerous separate utilities to do this via PC are many and cumbersome. ALSO, one of them installed a virus on my PC along with the utility. Please add this functionality for PS2 classics. I already know it can be done. Thanks again!!

  • Maybe it would have been better to never know about the existence of a Memory Card Adaptor than to find out long after it is out of production. Loading my old save files would be amazing, but not $60+ worth of amazing.

  • already finished mortal kombat x story mode and waiting for online for goro

    yaaay Gradius V

  • It is unfortunate that they have become that expensive. However, the support would be appreciated by many who already have them. RPGs, games with huge amounts of content, and games with particularly difficult challenges may also persuade others to pick up a used, albeit expensive one if the time invested in those games out-costs the memory card adapter itself. Moreover, this functionally would be a positive selling point for the downloads as it has been with PSOne classics over the years.

  • Good grief guys, get some retail titles for the PSV already. All this digital Mini stuff is not why we bought the PSV, it’s just so much wasted potential. Given that the West and Sony gave up on it, at least invest in localizing all the games that are coming out for it in Japan~.

  • Ok, i have a couple questions I’m new to playstation was always Xbox fan but I really do love the ps4 now can u download free to play games that only matches your system and with so many better games it seems that have been free for ps3 is better, now my question is should I get a cheap ps3 for the games or is this system gonna soon be obsolete as in will they allow you to run the ps3 free to play on ps4?
Sorry if that was confusing, any comments be great i wanna also get the vita cause I can play my 16+ games on vita but I mostly own hard copies, so is it as long as there loaded onto ps4 don’t wanna have to buy same games on diff platforms, going from Xbox to ps4 like trading in a old pinto for a Lambo,
MKX can not wait to play

  • Also if there is any experiencd playstation owners that has the time to kinda explain a few things to me that be great, just add me on psn. I have noticed there are a lot of friendly people willing to help if your willing to ask so here I am. I just feel like I’m not getting the full experience cause I’m limited to only the ps4 console when I see people talking about games I played 10 15 years ago. Thanks

  • Hi and thank you for the update. Why can’t we get Gradius V and GTA trilogy on the Vita? It must be possible. Surely it’s possible. Get these PS2 ports working on the Vita!

  • woohoo~ Titan Souls!!!

  • Dat Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy looks sick… ¡And Trine: Enchanted Edition Demo! Magic as always, but i guess Mortal Kombat is the game of the month, is a brutal month.

  • Why is Titan Souls all of a sudden $14.99($13.49 w discount)? It was advertised as $9.99($8.49 w discount)

  • I am not finding Titan Souls on the Playstation Store?

  • Titan Souls does not have any mention of cross-buy in the store listing for it. Is that just an oversight or is it not really cross-buy?

  • @57 – that definitely explains why the trailer was awful
