While developing the PlayStation 4 system, our hardware and software teams relied on feedback from our community of developers. The result is the most innovative and forward-thinking gaming console in the market today. Since launch, PlayStation has continued that trend of listening to feedback by bringing some of the most highly requested features from the PlayStation Nation to PS4 with each of our system software updates. When we unveiled PS4 two years ago, we announced Suspend/Resume, a feature that would enable PS4 users to jump in and out of their games faster than ever. This has been a feature gamers have been excited about since then, and today I am honored to officially confirm that system software update 2.50, “Yukimura,” will soon deliver Suspend/Resume, as well as a number of other requested features to PS4.
Suspend/Resume, which will be supported by nearly all PS4 titles, will create an atmosphere where your games are immediately available at any time — just pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games. When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off. Spend less time getting into your games and more time playing them.
Here are some of the other highly requested new features and changes coming soon in “Yukimura:”
- Sub-account to Master account Upgrade: Users with a sub-account will now be able to upgrade to a master account directly from their PS4 when they turn 18, removing restrictions for chat, enabling users to fund their own wallet, make purchases and more. Currently, users can upgrade their sub-accounts online at https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/.
- Facebook Friend Search: Gamers globally have jumped into PS4 as a redefined social gaming experience and connecting with friends over the network is a huge part of what makes the PS4 community so special. PlayStation now lets you go even bigger by connecting with your Facebook friends on PS4 using your linked account. Search for Facebook friends who are PlayStation Network members and build on the foundation of Friends you already have in your list.
- Remote Play & Share Play at 60 fps: For games that support 60 fps, the ability to customize the frame rate of Remote Play and Share Play will be added with “Yukimura.” Play to your bandwidth strengths and use this option to stream gameplay at 60 or 30 fps when using Remote Play or Share Play on supported devices.
- Accessibility Options: “Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make their PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.
- Trophy Improvements: We have received a ton of feedback to improve Trophies. In “Yukimura,” a screenshot will automatically be captured at the moment a Trophy is earned, making it easier than ever for you to share your greatest gaming moments with your friends. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.
- Share Video Clips to Dailymotion: When sharing standout PS4 moments via the Share button on DualShock 4, “Yukimura” will allow players to upload directly to Dailymotion.

Why can’t we uses screenshots that we took in games for the ps4 background. It will allow us to personalise our own ps4 so it’s different to others. Also more icon options would be nice as well because I would like to see Delsin and Fetch from inFamous, Ellie from the last of us and maybe Red from Transistor.
Could you please add where it notifys the player when a friend gets on?
I personally think you guys need to expand the customization in the PS4. For example, maybe we can download custom fonts and apply them to dashboard, download custom themes like we did in last gen, use custom audio to change the dashboard music, etc.
Will we ever be able to change the birth date if we’d made a mistake when creating a profile?
This written text synopsis sounds all well and good but there is difficulty in deciphering what they are trying to depart unto the developers so their tools are heavy weaponary.

First off, I would just like to say, thank you for all the new features. 1.live from Playstation 2.Share factory 3.Share play 4.Playstation Now and suspend/resume. Now with that out the way, hear are some things us Playstation fans want addressed. 1. All media features from the ps3. The ps3 set the standard in media functionality, which the ps4 should have built-in and improved upon. Thus these new features could get the attention they deserve. Sense the Playstation inception it has always added features or updated them, that is one of the reasons it remains the platform of choice.
When will you guys be adding dlna support? That was one of my favorite features on ps3.
And ability to play and store movies to hard drive and USB.
A really nice set of features in 2.50, keep em coming.
And you guys out there with all of these “demands” to make the console better, some of the features you had on your PS3 or other Playstation devices are simply not possible on the PS4. And some are also unrealistic.
PS3 games on PS4 are not possible in the sense of inserting the disc into the PS4s bluray drive. Since the PS4 uses another architecture in terms of CPU/GPU and other hardware it’s sadly not possible. The PS Now game streaming service however, exists for that very reason.
Whenever you get nostalgic, you will be able to play those games.
I’m not sure about how big the catalogue is at the moment though.
I do really love the ps4 and have had it since launch, and know it has been improved alot. I still feel there are a few things missing, like when I press the home button I can’t see the game, like on ps3 the background was slightly transparent. Or if you guys could add a little box with the game still there.
I know this isn’t soo easy but would there ever be an ability to change you online ID, I and a lot of people would probably not mind even paying for this!

We also know you don’t want to cut and paste, we’re not asking you to, more like a cut and update. The ps4 has the power to finally live up to the tag “It only does everything”. It’s funny how Microsoft ounce criticized ps3 for their ambitious living room strategy, and now they’re trying to do the same with Xbox. the one thing I can say about them, is with their updates, they really are listening. Don’t let the lead fool you, there needs to be more transparency, maybe a let’s vote app, designed to get closely attached to the Playstation community.
I was wondering,will the Text to Speech feature work only in the UI or will it be able to recognize Text in games as well?
Here’s some cool things that could be added. Making theme/wallpapers from the background of the selected game. They already come with background music, or get a dynamic theme from game disk/digital download.
I want to be able to upload my own profile avatar via usb drive. Makes it more individual if I could ul my own. Keep up the great work. #ps4life
I usually dont comment unless I need to. Your last VUDU update has made my ability to stream to my Vita impossible. What was tge rationale other than infuriate Vita owners? I invested in this device which you seem to be phasing out slowly. Please reverse or implement a VUDU Vita app. I deserve to watch movies/digital licenses I paid for on all devices. Also, this was functioning perfectly before you ruined it!
The following features would be great:
1) Being able to clearly record all player’s voices from a party chat using the Sharebutton video capture feature.
2) Being able to set a picture as a custom background (wallpaper) for the PS4’s menu (like you could on PS3)

We really need an option to copy all of the save states and data to an external device instead of ticking each entry. Really missed this when i upgraded my HDD.

I love my PS3, and partial the reason why was because I could upload my music on there and plug in my external hard drive and watch movies. Ever since the PS4, A bunch of my friends and I have been waiting for an update so we could just plug in USB drives/ External Hard drives.

These features would be great:
1) For everyone’s voices from Party Chat to be clearly captured in videos recorded using the SHARE button.
2) To be able to set your online status as “Busy” or have a feature which automatically states you as being “away” if there is a lack of user activity after a set amount of time has past.
3) To be able to set a picture as a custom background (wallpaper) for the PS4 menu (like you could on the PS3).

We would really like to remove the PS3 from our entertainment center and just use the PS4. In our opinion the PS4 is inferior to the PS3 in terms of features we use the device for. Yes we use it for gaming, but we have to go back to PS3 for: 3D Bluray, DNLA, PS3 games, Logitech wheel, PS3 Move games, folders, and all the software features PS3 has that Sony didn’t carry over to the PS4. Why would you take features away and build a completely different OS? What makes Apple devices so great? Well, they would never come out with iPhone 6 and take away Touch ID. I would recommend building on what you already have given a device. We’ve wait patiently for over a year to see if Sony would deliver. Unfortunately, in our opinion we don’t think you plan on incorporating all the PS3 features. I have to nephews and they would buy a PS4 in a heartbeat if you would carryover the PS3 software. Also, one stated a huge reason no PS4 is they cant play PS3 discs which they have plenty of.

So is being able to view Trophies offline a part of the update. I have earned quit a few on my ps4 but unlike ps3 & Vita i cant see wht ive earned, i have no internet access, and whn i do its limited, it seems all updates benifit ppl with net, well wht if their net goes out they cant view their trophies. So i hope tht in thos update i can set to offline mode, itll be a damn shame if something so simple was gone for good.
What i think should be added is Vita controller support for the ps4. What i mean is having the option to either wireless-ly (or with cable) use the vita as a second ps4 controller. Its sort of possible via remote play now, but its laggy/buggy and i say just remove the middle man, add a 3rd vita remote play option – Ps4 Controller mode. It would be nice for people who want an extra controller on game night, and i think its needed.
Those are really nice features =)
Few suggestions i have:-
* PS Blog App for the PS4 that can also send notifications to us for any new blog posts
* Twitch app for PS4
* Please add mouse support for the PS4 browser, more zooming and more keyboard shortcuts

I would like to see more blue tooth compatibility for head sets because the ear piece it comes with doesn’t feel comfortable also please bring back the voice changer option you had on the ps3 I loved that but I got to give it to play station everything else has impressed me keep up the great work you all doing I’m a die hard playstation fan and have been one since the ps1 come out so I want to see playstation become great than ever before.

So this is my favorite part of this update “We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.” How ever i do have one request if there are any developers reading this blog. i am a gamer that spends five maybe ten hours a day gaming on one of Sony systems. This leads me to trying many games out to see if i like them. Some games give you a trophy just for completing the tutorial. In some cases this would put you at 1% and unable to delete that game with this new update. I implore Sony to up the percentage a bit so games I and many others never plan on playing again but may have one or two trophies due to trying the game out to see if we like it. Or maybe my son started Mindcraft on my account and not here by mistake and now i have some of his trophies on my list “UGH!” you know where i’m going with this, thank you for reading and understanding my situation.
It is great to see that Sony is making all games accessible to those of us who struggle to or can’t play games with the dual shock controller because of fixed or not very varied button configurations. Bravo Sony PS4 really is for the gamers!!

Great update but I would welcome an update that allows us to play PSN PS1, PS2 and PS3 games as well as media sharing/streaming, music storage and playback. Now that’s an update I would enjoy.
All awesome features! Very promising, I do have one request tho that I hope you look into. I would like to see party chat updated so that we can change the parties privacy (toggle private and open) straight from one. It’s really tedious to have to make everyone leave a party just to make it open or closed. Hope you guys look into this. Really looking forward to Yukimura!
I would love to see free video player that can stream movies from my pc to my PS4, I would love more back word capiblity with the ps1, ps2, ps3, psp, and vita(missing old school driving games. Maybe a rewards program that with so many digital downloads that would give you free or discounted future downloads., a Xfinity app to watch cable TV on ps4, the ability to save my own media to a cloud linked to my ps account. And finally video out put to 4k tv’s.

I know the official answer is “soon” or “when it’s ready”, but can I get an idea of how soon is soon? I’m holding a 2TB drive in my hand ready to upgrade my system. Particularly with the rumor that backing up game installs might be part of 2.50 I’d like to know if it’s “soon” (wait for 2.50 before updating drive) or “soon” (I’m not going to do all this work and re download everything only to find if I waited 2-3 weeks I could have saved myself the hassle.
could you do a update please to have another os i know it was a feature on ps3 but yall had to remove it for i don’t know what reason but i would really love to see a update that allows another os to be ran on the ps4

Yes, i would love to see more avatars and i would want them to b from the games: 1) warframe 2) lbp3 3) cod advanced warfare AND 4) pvz: garden warfare for all the pvz fan’s out there :) ( i want Warframe avatar’s the most.)
What about bluetooth support? I have 4 bluetooth headsets that I still cannot use but could use on the ps3. Or are you just going to force us to spend even more money on the “Sony” brand and other super expensive headsets?
