You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.
You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.
PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:
There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.
Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.
That price is rather high. That price you need a good job, so consider the amount of time you have to actually sit down and play games, with this good job. How many games can you beat a year? 5? 4? Might as well go buy the games in the discount bin, which is where most of these games are anyways. And then consider that you probably have PS+. There is 50 a year right there. with 2 free full games a month. Where is all this free time you have to play the 100+ titles and the ps+ free games? So it would be a waste. Maybe at half that price, but not for 180 plus 50 for ps+, no thanks.
I wish it were a yearly subscription. But this is s step in the right direction.
US whiners as always complaining about prices….nothing new to see, move on.
It’s cute how Grid and Dirt are available for PS Now … but the PS4 don’t support the PS3 steering wheels …
Well, OK, there’s one or two new wheels supported, maybe. Yay.
I wish you’d add access to games already owned by PSN users. For instance I already own guacamelee for PS3 but you want me to pay for it yet again.
I think you should let people stream games they already own on PSN. I have a big PS Plus backlog I’d like to play on the go, or on my PS4. The overlap of games makes me not want to pay to play those games again.
This is great but are you guys going to get Fallout 3 or New Vegas???
i have 46.70 in my playstation wallet and I’m buying the 3 months right away. but i hope the lag is good cuz i got payday 2 from ps now and the connection was so bad i could not even see the screen i ran a speed check on the playstation now store and it said i have high speed perfect
The subscription price is just a shade higher than what I was hoping for but oh well. Once PS1 and, more importantly, PS2 games come to the service, I will become a subscriber. I own every PS3 game I want so PS3 games aren’t much of a selling point to me. But PS2 games will get me. I’ll be waiting for that before I subscribe.
This is very over priced. Like say you played this for a whole year with the 3 month subscriptions then you would pay 180 power year. With that amount of money, you could get a refurbished ps3 with decent capacity and get some of the games they have on here for 10 dollars. I think that pays off better in the long run. Now if they made a yearly cost that is equal to the Playstation plus cost, I think that would be way more acceptable. But this is ridiculous. Certainly not for me
I wonder how the Sony board meeting was. “Okay, guys. Gamefly charges $15.95 a month. We should charge more and expect gamers to do more business with us.”
Hey Peter, This is an AMAZING deal. I hope you and the team aren’t discouraged by these incredibly cheap people trying to harass for lower prices when it’d already super fair. Like seriously, how cheap can they be??? $20 a month is awesome! Especially for being able to play all or any game you want from Playstation Now. Sure it’s $180 a year, but who cares? that literally buying 3 games at full prices anywhere else and for the same price you can play over 100 games on Playstation Now. What is wrong with people? Full of great games too! anyway, Thanks Peter and thanks Sony for something wonderful.
Great concept… Poor execution on the pricing model.
I think that if the Plus membership went up by $10 a year and included NOW, that would be awesome. Or even if the Plus membership contained a limited membership at the price point available now, this would be an awesome service. I just can’t see paying monthly for something like this.
It’s not for me, my internet connection is terrible but even if it wasn’t the last thing I would be doing is paying Sony more money for games I already have on a service which I’m sure will be spotty at best.
This would mean two subs for Playstation gaming? at this price point, PS Now should include PS+.
Blogs normally address all major issues and concerns. So why doesn’t the PS Blog do the same. I appreciate you guys answers questions posed to you ansd even high it with complimentors but you don’t address your critics at all. it”s like we are ignored likw e we don’t even exist.
Notice when your competition was crticized for pricing choices they literally did a 180 cutting prices 20-30% all you heard was them addressing critics to make sure they are happy. Might I suggest you address your critics as eell. At the very least explain pricing tpo us or wh we cant simply play content we own.
Pricing model is better than previous, but still seems a bit too high for me to justify, especially since I’d wager the Canadian price is going to be higher like everything else…
I like that they finally added the subscription service, but in order to use it, you need to pay $50 a year for PS Plus. Then at the $44.99 for 3 months rate, it would be $180. $180+$50= $230, so I’d be paying about half the system a year to use internet AND “backwards compatibility.”
Hi,
Just to clarify, you do not need a PlayStation Plus membership to purchase and enjoy a PS Now subscription, they are separate and complimentary services.
