A Holiday Thank You

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

  • Uh no psn was down for almost 5 days so this isn’t that big of a deal or a real thank you. Isn’t this just the days back that we all lost and some of us paid for.

    Don’t get me wrong that’s all I wanted were my paid for days back but don’t call this a gift if its what I’m owed anyway.

  • Will the plus extension apply if you had a membership that expired /on/ Christmas? That was when mine expired, and while I had every intent of renewing it post-Christmas (which I’ve obviously done), I’m curious if I’ll qualify for the extension as such.

  • So Question regarding the 10% Sale–My PSN Plus membership expires 01/05/2015. If the 10% off hits AFTER this mark, will I still be eligible to get the 10% considering…my PSN Plus is about to expire? I feel like I’m about to shoot myself in the foot on the 10% by not renewing because it will likely not be out before the 5th. Second, I won’t be eligible for it when I do go to renew because my PSN Plus will have already expired. Can anyone from Sony comment on this?

    I have seen several people post this in the comment section and I would like these free games.

  • First of all, this shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Highly inconvenient n that’s l u offer? They could’ve hacked our accounts n stole personal due to your lack of security. I pay for this so I expect better security n a month of ps+

  • Wow really? 5 whole days? And a 1 time use discount? Couldn’t play for 5 days and only get those days back and a limited time discount? Xbox went down for only a few hours and we got two free games. Sony has X10 the amount of subscribers you would think you could afford better.

  • I don’t think expecting to be compensated the amount of time that we lost to be entitled. Sony offers a service that we’ve paid for. That service is for 1 year. When the service is down, we aren’t getting everything we paid for. Is it Sony’s fault? No. Is it our fault? No. I’m glad that Sony did the right thing and extended our subscriptions, and the additional 10% is generous. It’s business, guys. If they can’t offer a consistent reliable service, people will defect. DDOS are very difficult to defend against. MS does it because the manner that their system is designed. PSN is more friendly to the masses, but that leaves them open to more attacks. Rock and a hard place, I guess.

  • Man, so much hate here. A lot of people who are screaming for the world to be paid unto them for about 96 hours of inconvenience. I’m just going to accept the extra 5 days of Plus, and when the discount code is handed out, I’ll save a couple bucks on a game I was going to be buying anyway. Sony didn’t have to give anything out, and they instead chose to make good by not only covering the time that was lost, but adding another discount on top of that.

    If I’m reading the post right, you’re going to be getting both the 5 day extension and the 10% discount. Because you had an active subscription on 12/15/14, you get the extra 5 days, and everybody on the PSN is going to be getting the discount code, regardless of PS Plus status.

  • so heres a little piece from the Terms of Service that YOU ALL signed to have your accounts :Unless as otherwise stated in this Agreement, SNEI, at its sole discretion, may indefinitely suspend, or discontinue any and all online access to content at any time, including for maintenance service or upgrades, without prior notice or liability.basically what this means is that they can take it down when ever they want and they are not required by any means to provide any sort of compenstation . so the fact that you are even getting any should be thought of as a blessing . quit being such self entitlted man children and be happy with what you got , dont forgot some peope dont even have hot water and your whinning about your PS4. also the fact that you think a DDOS can take down a network for 4 days is laughable , the DDOs lasted for about 2 hours on 12/24/14 after that a large influx of new customers tried signing in at the same time slowing down the network. you should all be ashamed with the way you acting, and with that i wanna say happy holidays and thank you sony

My Play Station Plus account expired on December 25…bought a prepaid card redeemed it and still cannot get credited for my funds….You took them and gave me nothing in return..wallet doesn’t work….We received no extension..Your website doesn’t work…You won’t answer the phone….We understand you got hacked we just wanted to be ready to go when it came back up….Way to go Sony…..Great Customer service….My children hate you…You and the hackers ruined their Christmas vacation. Thank you so much…

  • It’s good to see more people stepping up to put these little brats back in their place. It needs to happen more often. We don’t want these miserable little snots representing us all.

    Sony handled this well. Always patient in the face of adversity, never slipping from their directive. Showing gratitude for their customers even while many of them refuse to extend the same graces in return.

    You little brats could actually learn a lot from Sony. They just showed you how it’s done.

  • I was not given an extension on my subscription that just ended and had to pay for another year. Please contact me ASAP.

  • I want my 5 days back not 10% off a purchase which will definitely be less than $20 because I’m now laid off not even $2 compensation i probably won’t even have enough $$$ to get my 10% discount WOW yeah we should be grateful for losing $$$ because sony couldn’t fix the problem THANKS SONY I’M SOOOOO GRATEFUL

    Which means that while they are going to be adding time to your account it won’t be for a few weeks probably

    The extensions haven’t been sent out yet. They said in the post above that anyone whos account expired between Christmas and now will get thier account activaed for 5 days when the extensions are given.

  • What about the 15 to 20 other days service was out this last year, wow sony you really are that cheap.Why not a free month for all this years inconvenient service interuptions and the whole free drive club ps plus edition scandal. And all the things that are still wrong with the ps4. Like i cant watch game trailers on ps store games. This busted ass controller that the rubber on the thumbsticks has already come off and the circle button is already going our For all the aholes talking at us entitled ones, just shut ur mouth. Im entitled to have the serice i paid for work. See i buy all my stuff so if its not working right i take it back and get a new one.

  • Well. Me personally i feel they could have maybe offered a little more than ten percent. I mean things happen with online services cable tv etc. The frustrating part for me was i couldnt play my metro campaign saved game file. I dont know enough about this stuff but why did that happen? When psn came back i could load my save game. Alot of older gamers cant play as often as we use to. Myself when I have a couple days off i just want to play my campaigns im behind on and a little multiplayer. I purchased an xbox one and ps4 with money i saved up. My ps plus expires in a couple months i have no desire to renew it as of now. I mean to pay for 2 online services now over $100 ayear neither systems service is worth the 50 bucks. Id appreciate it if ps4 online service was free like ps3. With the option to pay for ps plus. Ps3 over the last year got way more on ps plus. The games on ps4 werent worth it to me.

  • I have had online for a little over a year and this was only the 3rd time I had issues logging in to PSN that was not due to my internet connection.
