Major PS4 System Software Update v2.00 Available Tomorrow

PS4‘s system software v2.00, codenamed Masamune, is making its arrival tomorrow and we can’t wait for you to check out all the new enhancements it’ll bring to your PS4. This update adds unique, forward-looking features like Share Play, and addresses some of the most highly requested features from the community including YouTube integration, USB music player, ability to find players you may know, sorting options for PS4’s game library, and themes that change the look of your home screen. This is the biggest update we’ve delivered to date for PS4.

For a look at what you can expect, check out our walkthrough video on key Masamune features. And don’t forget to watch the walkthrough video of the SharePlay feature.

Here’s a recap of some top features you can expect with Masamune in list form:

  • Share Play: PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game — even when they don’t own a copy of it. PlayStation Plus membership is required for certain Share Play features.
  • YouTube: Upload your gameplay highlights directly from PS4 to YouTube by clicking the “SHARE” button on DualShock 4. In addition, a YouTube app for PS4 will be available to download from the PlayStation Store.
  • Themes & Colors: Personalize your home screen background with select themes and colors. As a big thank-you to the PlayStation Nation, we want to kick-start your dynamic theme options by giving away a theme for two of the biggest titles gamers will be playing on PlayStation 4 this fall; Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Both themes will be available for download on Tuesday.
  • Live Broadcasting Enhancements: Search filters, archived broadcast support and more have been added to Live from PlayStation
  • Content Area & Library: Find and access your content quicker with a redesigned Content Area and improved filter and sort functions for the PS4 Library.
  • USB Music Player*: Insert USB memory with music in your PS4 and start playing your favorite tunes in the background.
  • What’s New: To make the activity feed more relevant and timely for you, What’s New will add Friends of Friends suggestions and Live Broadcasting updates from your friends at the top of your feed.

PS Vita and PS TV Update

Also available tonight is a new system software update (v3.35) for PS Vita and PS TV, which includes 4-player Remote Play support for PS TV, as well as the Live from PlayStation app, which allows you watch game streams from PS4 on both your PS Vita and PS TV devices. A full features list and instructions for updating PS Vita and PS TV can be found here after the update goes live.

PS App Update

Lastly, don’t forget to update your PlayStation App on your mobile devices to the latest version. The new 2.0 update will include a redesigned home screen, and a new layout for tablets.

This has been an amazing first year for PS4 so far, with more than 10 million units sold and a robust set of new features already added including SHAREfactory, automatic pre-download, and more. We are pleased to see the great feedback we’ve been getting from fans like you, which helps us to make PS4 the best place to play.

Let us know what you think about these new features and let’s keep the conversation going!

*User can play music files stored inside USB storage but cannot copy music files to PS4 HDD. This application cannot be used at the same time with Music Unlimited. USB Music Player will appear once USB storage is inserted, and will disappear once USB storage is removed.

  • .. DLNA plz, and twitch app, and HBO GO, these things are all trash

  • Been waiting for this for a long time!!

  • What time tomorrow or midnight

  • Any release on the time

  • Sill waiting for the DLNA support and other things being miss. I’ll be on PS4 soon and want good exp sense my 1st day when i brought PS4 was horrible day when PS4 didn’t power on with no display at all. I hope the next PS4 i buy is 100% working model and that the OS will be fine tune with alot of things to keep me busy. I love to rename my PSN-ID from jose213jose to something cooler i have pick out ready just in case. Should allow everyone who is PSN plus member to chance their name once for free and non users $1-5 for it. :)

Friend notifications is much have with PS1 and PS2 classics on PS4 using disc and download. With Organize download list as well so its easier to find things we buy or want to redownload again. For PS3 games on PS4 it should be possible if you have software/hardware jack of all trade programmer with skills to do it too.

  • *Waiting for the blue tooth train to start rolling*

  • I was hoping to get a PS4 this holiday season. Guess not.
Keep working, and one day PS4 will be great.
    damn…

  • All good stuff so far, but we still got a way to go till our Ps4 catches up with last gen PS3. We need:

    1) Online statuses: Offline, busy, invisible.
    2) Folders, so we can clean up and customize where we want to put things.
    3) DLNA, etc. I don’t use this but I like options.
    4) We do need more and better video codecs:::::: This is A must:::::::
    5) Friend notifications: So we know who comes on line and goes offline.
    6) Ps1, Ps2 emulation. I am sure this is tough to do, but make it happen.
    7) Better compatibility with Vita. For example the vita is said to be the ultimate PS4 companion however I can download PSP and vita games on PS3 and transfer them over to the vita but we cant do that on the PS4.

I know you guys dont have control over this but see what could be done about expediting HBO go.

    9) More Tv apps ( Fixsters, Showtime, etc ) If possible,

  • Youtube feature looks so much sexy!!!

  • “It’s been a long time coming, but I know a change is gonna come.”

  • Honestly not that impressed. Share play cool great idea but when will I ever use it. I think Sony needs to step it up with these updates. We don’t even have a ****ing YouTube app, you can now post videos to youtube but there’s no app to watch them. What the hell!
30 second clip would be appreciated as well to share with friends, Xbox one is doing this so clearly it can’t be that hard.
I don’t think much thought was put into the ‘share’ button.

  • hell yeah, thank you PS

  • Is this like well be in the midnight or something?Seriously can’t wait.

  • So when will we get back the ability to see when a friend signs on? Why do I need to know when a friend joins someone else’s party or need a friend of friend suggestion?

  • What about bluetooth update for headsets such as turtle beach et all. Honestly that’s a bigger and more desired update than silly theming. Cmon guys, add support for real features, especially in a completely new major version.

  • Very excited for the free themes!

  • DLNA….any day now. I would like to get the PS3 off the table.

  • Looks like a cool update with Youtube finally becoming an option and the ability to play MP3’s.

A couple of things I would still like to see
1: A different fast forward option for watching videos, maybe a bar like youtube has instead of the painfully slow fastforward button it has.
    2: A name change feature.

  • Beautiful beautiful playstation the bets

  • Cool stuff…..but…..(roll eyes)…1 year later and no DLNA. That is completely unacceptable and almost ridiculous. Can you imagine back in 2012 telling someone that a new PS4 is coming and it will be missing key features that the PS3 has? I know its coming in 2015 but that is just wrong.

  • Share Play is cool, but where’s the DLNA? I’d even be happy with a DLNA app — it doesn’t have to be built into the OS.

  • Awesome! Now for the next order of business, can we have DLNA and change our PSN names please?

  • I LOVE PLAYSTATION! It’s that simple.

  • Still no update to allow sub-accounts from the ps3 to be able to use all the new features? I’ve gone a year without being able to use the most anticipated features on the ps4. I have dedicated so much time and money into PSN with my current ID and would hate to ever have to change it. How has this gone on for so long? Are you guys even working on fixing this? I have been a die-hard play station fan for a long time but I have a feeling it might start to change soon. Please address this ASAP!

  • PS2 classics should be playable on PS4 & Vita!!

  • I am sorry, but I am so underwhelmed by this update. I got this system to play games, and all these features do nothing for me on this. The only updates at this time that I see that really need to be addressed are to add customizable folders to sort the games/apps that have been downloaded, and to clean up the PSN store (which I have had nothing but issues trying to use, to the point where I don’t even bother using it anymore because of how unfriendly it is, guess that saves me money in the end). Also, would be nice to be able to disable/hide the so-called options that people may not want. In my case, I would like to remove and disable the “What’s new”. It does nothing but spam what you and your friends do. This isn’t facebook, so no need to act like it and I don’t want to broadcast what I am doing at that time, or if I am cycling games/apps.

So much potential here, but focused in the wrong direction to start with. I am not saying don’t do these things, just saying fix the main issues with the system first. Ease of use, full controls over what we want to run and do not want to run, the bugs that keep freezing/locking the system…. Then play with the little pet projects afterwards.

  • What a disappointment. I waited almost a year just to finally get the same features that my PS3 already had. Thanks Sony.

  • Why is everyone complaining about dlna the ps3 does that already, yea it’s a cool feature but no where near as dope as share play, the could of just did that as the update and I’d be happy. You’ll get to watch your illegal movies soon enough

  • All I want is to be able to record using share for like an hour then edit it down using the Share Factory. you may be able to do this, but so far as I know you have to dubble tab the share button to start a recording and it will only go for fifteen min so say you do that and it ends just as you do something awesome inless you restarted the capture the second it went offline you missed that

  • WOW…FINALLY….I BEEN WAITING FOR THIS UPDATE… NOW I DON’T HAVE TO BUY ANY GAMES..CUZ ALL MY RICH FRIENDS HAVE THEM AN I CAN DEBO THEM TO GET ONLINE AN SHARE PLAY WITH ME..LOL!! JK. THIS IS THE SICKEST UPDATE!! I aint really tripping on the other stuff just being able to share play!!

  • I own a Sony MP3 walkman. and have been using it on my PS3 for awhile now. Will this also work on my PS4 now with an update? My PS3 could even sync with my MP3 player and identify the model#. Please advice if this doesn’t work what USB drive is preferred.

  • Is there any time frames?

  • And yet still no word on when the ps4 will get friends online notifications? Seriously this is 2014… Nowhere to turn on soandso is Online anywhere?

  • Is it out yet?

  • Don’t waste your time with suggestions folks. No one is reading at Sony, they operate at their own pace in a bubble. Some of these features should’ve been available at launch, or at least 6 months ago, not A YEAR later. And it’s still a 2 steps backward, 1 step forward philosophy approach.

It hurts to say this but looking at it objectively, the UI interface is leagues behind what Xbox currently has. You can say Sony/ PS4 are focused on gaming and not being a multimedia all-in-one box but then look at what the latest update for xbox allows in terms of achievements. Isn’t that gaming related?

The server infrastructure has been lacking for a while, the last E3 Sony streaming event with Twitch made that really obvious. Have they talked about upgrading that at all? Maybe, but I haven’t seen it actually happen.

If you as a company are in a prime position to maintain your spot, you constantly look at the competition to see what they’re doing and maintain that edge. So unless I see some steps in that direction, I’m ending my Sony (PS1/ PS2/ PS3) line and moving solely to PC.

  • When the suspend / resume future will be available it`s 1 year after release and this was a future highly marketed ?
However great update but we need suspend / resume.

  • When will the update hit germany because I tried to update and is says I have latest which is 1.76. This is passing me off.

  • What’s the exact time the update is supposed to drop? (Eastern Time)

  • Still no update

  • DNLA support PLEASE!
And Flv Support Too, You Know…Just To Keep Up With The Competition.
Oh, And A Comcast App. Would Be Perfect.

  • Sounds great but what about update for Bluetooth? I still can’t use my very expensive wireless headset for chat almost a year after PS4 release. Surely this should be a basic feature! Why do I have to use the rubbish wired PS4 mic on a modern console that should be backward compatible with previous Bluetooth iterations?

  • Yes! my usb is 8GB I’m gonna fill it with music till I need a new 1 , also can’t wait to play trials fusion local games with my friend. I can’t even sleep I I’m too excited for this update @.@

  • Still no update

  • where is it, its already 10:10am in South Africa…..!!!!

  • HAAROOOOOOOOOO

  • #190 Why would have Flash Video support? You are aware that no one use that format right?
MKV and MP4 is must better choice as they are the most used atm.

  • Guys its up dloading now
