You may already know that PS4’s upcoming system software 2.00, codenamed Masamune, adds some big features including Share Play, YouTube support, and Themes – but the updates don’t end there. I have personally stated in past blog posts that we listen to our fans. PlayStation has heard gamers when they say they want more ways to find friends to play with, and more ways to personalize their PS4. With this update, we’ve added a Players You May Know tile, the ability to listen to your music while gaming, the option to change the look of your PS4 experience, and easier ways to sort and filter your library of content on PS4.
PS4 has been on sale for almost a year and we’re committed to improving the player experience in entirely new ways. As always, we welcome feedback as part of our ongoing effort to make PS4 the best place to play.
- USB Music Player: PS4 owners can play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the PS4, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.
- Change colors: In addition to the ability to add a theme, PS4 owners can also change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and gray.
- Players You May Know: PS4 will now suggest players you may know as potential friends in the ‘What’s New’ section.
- Enhancements to Live Broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts.
- Content Area and Library: PS4’s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organize contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date.
- Enhanced Voice Commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,” “End broadcast,” and “Find face.”
- Add To Library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.
Correction: Back Up Data, a feature listed in an earlier version of this post, is not part of PS4 system software 2.00.
PS Vita and PS TV – 3.35 update, Live From PlayStation
The PS Vita and PS TV systems will also receive a system software update to version 3.35 with the same timing as Masamune, adding four-player Remote Play support to PS TV. In addition, the Live from PlayStation app, which allows users to watch live gameplay streams from PS4 systems, will be available on both PS Vita and PS TV alongside this update.
PlayStation App 2.0 update
The PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets, available free on the App Store and Google Play, is also set to receive an update to version 2.0 within the same launch window as both the PS4 and PS Vita system software updates. This update provides a new layout for tablets, and the app’s home screen has been redesigned.
Stay tuned for more information on Masamune. We can’t wait for everyone to try it!
* User can play music files stored inside USB storage but cannot copy music files to PS4 HDD. This application cannot be used at the same time with Music Unlimited. USB Music Player will appear once USB storage is inserted, and will disappear once USB storage is removed.
The music plugin was a nice touch. Can’t wait to listen to a battle playlist while smashing heads in online multiplayer!
It’s pathetic how there’s still no release date for this.
This update sounds great! Thx Sony!!!!
thank you so much ive bin waiting for this from the start of ps4 i hope the update comes quick i just have 1 problem i really wanna see fixed thats the friendslist that keeps loading and when to many friends are on half of my list wont show its a verry important isue to me i hope gets fixed soon thank you an answer to this woud be nice.
USB Music Player sounds like a fantastic feature, but is there any word when we will be able to play videos via usb like we were able to on PS3?
I very much look forward to this update. With the amount of money we all spend for the system, the games, accessories and now ps network, I truly WOULD like to see a little better communication, as he said on post #836. Also, we would at least like to know if the 2.0 update will just drop or will you guys officially tell us a date. That would help a lot of peoples assumptions and bewilderment. Even the video game news people. We have been very loyal fans and do appreciate the up coming update, but I still think we are still too much in the dark regarding it. Thank you for listening.
Is Playstation going to have rhapsody soon.? I’m tired of using the Xbox to play rhapsody.
Update still needs
-Changes in the color for messages (Green , Blue , Pink , Red) Etc..
-Comments On profile Like On PS3
-Notify when Friends appear Online
-Video Chat
-Video Player
-Be Able To The Option to See your REAL Name OR PSN Name
-Download Avatars On PS4
-be able to go Busy Feature Like On PS3
-Friendslist Based On What Platform You’re playing On /PS4/Ps VITA /PS3
Nice! Looking forward to the update!
SONY! I still dont know why i need to keep connecting my headset to the controller to talk having bluetooth! WTF! let my wireless headset be completely wireless! Turtle beach PX4 wireless headset!
My Sony PS3 7.1 surround headset works great with my PS4 and its wireless
Proper YouTube app please!! And Google+ sign in support would be nice.
Great update but what about bluetooth support? I’m not buying a new headset.
Play from USB is ok but if we could add music to the HDD itself would be great
Does this mean we’ll finally be able to select custom tracks from our USB drive for superstar entrance themes in WWE 2k15?
I know this must have been mentioned a few times already, but my biggest dissapointment after switching from PS3 to PS4 was finding out that there was no DLNA support and that I can not play my own BD-Rs discs with personal digital videos from a camcorder as I could on the PS3.
As a father who spent lots of time watching videos of my family with the family on the PS3; this is a must. I can’t believe that this was not included as a base feature given that it was standard on the PS3.
When can we expect an update for the bluetooth compatibility? I’m not a fan at all of the audio cable… otherwise I would have bought a wired turtle beach headset instead of wireless
I have a few suggestions of features I’ve always wanted.
1- When will be able to pair a DS4 to a normal PS Vita? I really want that feature.
2- We should be able to copy & delete music files from the “Recently Played,” “Frequently Played,” & “Recently Added” sections in the music app. Also, we need the genre of a track to be displayed while a track is playing. And there should be a way to control music that’s playing from the lockscreen, I need a hundred years to pause or change a song.
3- When downloading content, progress should be displayed on the lockscreen.
Make deleting notifications easier.. I keep on pressing 3 buttons to clear them every minute.
4- Can you add the tabs in the Friends app on the LiveArea screen? That would be nice.
5- Fix the way the date is written on the lockscreen. I mean instead of “18 October (Saturday)” why doesn’t it be “Saturday 18 October”? Adding the year would be nice too. Showing the weather on the lockscreen would also be cool. And we should be able to see the date inside the OS, not only on the lockscreen.
6- Add the option to restart in the power menu. And change that ugly grey color in the HOME menu, why not themes change it?
7- Add some effects to the camera (like black & white, toy camera, etc) & let us be able to change the shutter sound. Both features were on PSP. Also allow us to crop images instead of just trimming. Oh & why don’t GIF images move?
8- We should be able to copy & paste text, especially in the browser. This thing annoys me a lot.
9- Why doesn’t TuneIn Radio have the permissions to run in the background? I want to use my Vita while listening to the radio, I don’t want to leave it as a dust collecting radio.
10- Themes should have live wallpapers. Or at least, the live wallpapers should still be there behind the theme wallpapers, instead of plain black.
11- Use that microphone we payed for in our PS Vitas. Either let us record & save, or add voice recognition for some apps, or something else. Just make use of it.
That’s basically it. That’s all I might want on my Vita. I hope at least half of these features can be added in future updates. Thanks in advance. Oh btw, we’re still waiting for PSM in the different regions of the Middle East.. Any progress?
All I’m talking about here is for PS Vita, nothing else.
Please fix the static problem with the wireless headsets on the Playstation4. I have encountered 20 different people online with the same problem. When using the Skullcandy Plyr 1s or the gold wireless headset or mostly any other wireless headset it makes static in party chat while looking in the UI (dashboard). It does not make the static noise anywhere else. Just when your in a party chat and roaming through the UI. Please fix this in the 2.0 update. (There is no fix to this other than an update).
XBO: DLNA and MKV file support
PS4: uh… here, have the ability to play audio from a usb drive!
another DLNA request, I can´t believe we´re asking to Sony …to SONY that established DLNA ….for this feature … more than 18,000 different device models have obtained “DLNA Certified” status … not the PS4 .. came on!! a usb pendrive to listen music??? … anyways thanks for the (future) youtube app support, another feature I was missing from the PS3.
Still not allowing party voice to be recorded?
if its all about privacy then simply put an option to either allow/dont allow your voice to be recorded from others share button.
and just make “dont allow” to be the default to avoid unwanted recordeed conversation…..
Love the update but I have one big question as I think many people do. When will we be able to use an external hard drive to install our games to. I understand we can swap out the internal 500GB hard drive but I already own a new 1TB usb Hard Drive that has no memory on it. Why should I buy what I already have?
Ouvir somente musica???
English (sorry if there are spelling errors):
Hear only music ??? And how are the videos that any cheap and of dubious quality television can play ???
Incidentally, any crap television can play music very well, photos and videos with subtitles in .MKV format !!!
And our PS4 – the last console generation – does not do anything mentioned above …
It’s incredibly sad but true.
Please rethink about whether the equipment is actually a “playstation” or only just a game console.
When I got my PS4 expected only have it in my room. But actually it only complements the equipment they need to have a full multimedia experience. I experava much, much more from Sony.
Please, think of how frustrating it can be for many users current experience with a PS4. Surely I’m not the only one disappointed with hopes of a better future …
Or go back to a PC.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to give us small updates with a few features (e.g. one that has a YouTube app, one that allows themes, etc.) than make us wait an eternity and getting them all at once?
Alright cool!! Now we can play our own music, but it doesn’t support AAC? Most of my music is AAC format. And when are we getting the chance to change our usernames?
It’s a start.
Still won’t be buying a PS4 until DLNA is added.
More apps would be great too (outside the US)
Playstation Could you email me draxcious@gmail.com for details for the upcoming ps4 update? i would appreciate if you could do that=)
Sony I have all your techno from ps1 to psvita but I didnt buy ps4 because you have to pay I thnk u should lower the price or make it free P.S big fan
Pay for the online
is wrong that my ps3 does more than my ps4 like playing with my friends with out needing plus, streaming my video content, it has no support for my Bluetooth and now I have to pay $60 for an old game again?!that’s ****ed up!
What about plans to download music to the HDD for the ability to add music in-game? On the PS3 I especially loved being able to download music to customize the walkup music for my hittrrs and relievers in MLB the Show. Also will there be in-game controls to skip, pause, etc so you don’t have to leave the game to skip a song?
FINALLY. I would play my own music on my 360 whenever I played online with friends or competitive multiplayer. I have been wanting this since I got my system. Thanks, Sony.
Is there going to be a notification when someone comes online?
i would really like the back up data feature improved. right now backing up anything is tedious and cumbersome. would also like to be able to back up my downloaded psn and ps4 titles. i would like to upgrade my 1tb hard drive to a 2 tb drive but i really dont want to download my 30+ games again.
does anyone know if we could import photos for wallpaper in this update
Does the 3.35 update on the PS TV fix compatibility issues with games that are supposed to be compatible in the first place?
USB Mp3 support?? You’re kidding right? I would’ve thought it impossible to screw up adding MP3 support to your console but you guys managed to screw that up and gimp the support with it being through Usb rather than playing it locally from the hdd (you know like your superior console the PS3 did). Oh well, your loss. I told myself when the PS4 actually does what I would like it to do Id buy one, Mp3 support was my biggest request and you Guys couldn’t help but do us wrong on that too. Guess Ill just wait to see if you guys can get it right on the PS5. Sad and pathetic you guys are hopelessly out of touch with what your customers want and instead obsessed with your investors wishes.
please allow us to delete trophy lists from undesired games.
also the option to be invisible when online !
Those are great, but We Still Need Resume Support for Downloads..
What if I want to change my wallpaper to my favorite sports team or video game character and view photos from your USB device
Hi .. Thanks for the nice update but what about standby mode while playing a game ? .. and what if i want to pause a download because i need the full internet speed for playing online ? .
Arabic language??
DNLA?
I would like an update supporting the ability to change your gamertag, can we have that sony
Sure cool update but why can’t i or should i say we! download music or photos or video to the harddrive like on PlayStation 3? I mean what’s the problem? its going to be a year since PlayStation 4 came out & still no music import why? i thought PlayStation 4 was going to be a better machine than PlayStation 3, i thought i was purchasing an upgrade not a downgrade i just don’t understand i hate going back & forth to my PlayStation 3 to listen or import music im a big user of music & it’s sad & enraging you people do all this to us loyal customers & the sad part is you know we want these features & you people refuse to implement these features its ridiculous having to beg on features the console should already have.
Heres a thought transfer all things the ps3 did & put them on ps4 and expand on that make it better
Please please Please add the feature to where when my friends get online it notifies me in the top corner! I’m tired of guessing when my friends are on or not!
