Hi everybody – Since we’re just days away from the launch of Destiny on PS4 and PS3, I wanted to let you know that the game is now available for pre-load on PlayStation Store in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
This means if you’ve pre-ordered Destiny digitally via PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to begin downloading the game on PS4 or PS3 starting now. Once you’ve downloaded the game, you’ll be ready for the official Destiny launch this Tuesday, September 9th.
Here are your options for pre-loading Destiny:
- Take no action; Destiny will begin automatically downloading, provided that “auto-download” has been enabled on your PS4 or PS3. Over the next few days, your system will check for updates and the game will begin downloading by Monday, in time for the release on Tuesday.
- If you can’t wait until then, you can enable the download manually. In PlayStation Store, navigate to the Destiny game page and click the “download” button. If you haven’t yet preordered, you can preorder and then begin downloading.
The game won’t be available to play until 12:00am Pacific Time / 3:00am Eastern Time on September 9th, but you’ll be ready for the ultimate Destiny experience on PlayStation.

My problem is, people are already playing it l, and are allowed to by Bungie. But sony and Microsoft refuses to open until tomorrow morning. Im watching live streaming from the dang game! Bad move sony, will notbe digitally downloading ever again.
It is kind of like when you were in school…and the bell for dismissal would ring and the whole class would start to get up to leave when the teacher would say “The bell doesn’t dismiss you…I DO!”. Sony is that teacher right now…
@356 No you’ll be able to play at midnight because the servers are already live. It’s only digital people who get stuck waiting.
Your favoring one timezone and your excluding gamers across North America who live in Central and Eastern and even
Atlantic Timezones. You say you want to push digital and you want players to play it first on Playstation.
If make a statement to Playstation Gamers with these motto’s, etc. Then be that company.
Don’t favor physical over digital make them both the same. It does not make a difference in sales.
And if it did it would be on small scale because gamers know what they want.
So is there any chance that we can see the release shifted and changed to unlock in all timezones at 12:00am

Furthermore we need to wait until 5pm PST to see if they updated on the blog. I’m sorry that we all need to wait. Most believed that it was placeholder time for the game. We were expecting it to change. Unfortunately that’s not the case. They that “This is for the players” Well we can all say that was a lie. This is bad business practice and anyone who took business classes would tell you
the same thing.
If your going to promote a game for the biggest launch. We should all be able to play together. Not at different times.
Maybe it’s time to rethink how you handle your business practice.
Just called a psn specialist and the lady said she put in a request for my refund and on her end gave it a “yes” but i wont find out until about 3-5 business days if i actually get a refund because another higher up has to approve it so im pretty much stuck with the digital version.
Should I un-install the Destiny Beta???
All of us have learned our lesson…I am sure when the next big game is released and no one buys a digital copy, they might get the picture.
Everyone on this thread needs to do exactly that. Do not buy anymore digital copies of AAA games.
We can make a difference and change this idiotic policy.

Pretty mad @ sony for making me have to wait till 3AM / EST. You’ve lost my future digital pre order’s, I thought it would be much more convenient till now. I’ll resume my business with GameStop and wait on line with all the others.

so now cuz of this stupid upgrade we suffer once again whoever purchase the PS3 version just to get the PS4 version for free

You’re not “suffering” for not being able to download a free upgrade yet.
Seriously, if you have the PS3 version, and have that to play until you get your free upgrade, why are you complaining?
Because you can’t play another version of a game that you can play upon release?
Your data gets backed up to the server, if that’s what you’re so worried about. Your guardian would be waiting for you. No need to say you’re “suffering”.

Me and my friends were all set to play together at midnight. Hyped as all Hell.
We thought we’d get at least an hour or so to sate our hype for the night.

Well, since I’ll have 3 hours to kill until the digital unlocks, guess I’ll head up to Walmart at midnight and grab a physical copy to play, then return it in the morning saying it’s defective. They’ll take anything back. Sucks that you guys lose out on a sale and a perfectly good copy gets returned to you. Don’t be morons in the future. “For the gamers” my @$$.
Yeap, this delay on digital release, from a business standpoint is ridiculous, since all effort on make digital happen…its a shame!
PSN get with the freakin program! I bought the digital download thinking I’d be gaming at midnight, MY TIME, not midnight West coast time…It was not specifically stated! This is the last pre-order I make, maybe the last ps4 game I buy period! Your customer service sucked when I had an issue, (still unresolved… Controller L1 and R1 has stuck since the first time I used the controller) and now this. Starting to remind me of Apple!!!
What’s sad is I could have went to Walmart at midnight my time tonight, bought destiny, and been home playing at 12:10!!!!!!!

I live in the Eastern Time zone and wanted to play at midnight? Plus my add -on didn’t load correctly.
I think I will go back to disks. The inconvenience of driving 5 minutes from my house is not worth the 3 hours wait plus the added bandwidth.
Pretty crappy situation, Sony. Buy digital, play full price, bar yourself from future re-sale, incur all costs for shipment (data rates), and when the servers go on, and people can play, wait.
I’m sticking to physical media unless some of this changes.

I just got my preload code from gamestop of the PS4 Destiny Guardian Edition and psn wont take the code. is anyone else ran into this problem as well?

i pree orderd last beta and i was charged again now when the game launched am i the only one that has this problem or did we get a charge back erlyer and am just slow?
it doesn’t make sense for destiny to come out on psn at 3 a.m. it should be out on midnight release and Pacific time should have just waited 3 hour it doesn’t make sense to release it all at once it will just overflow the server that Psn might be down

They are definitely affecting any future purchase I might make on PSN versus buying from my local game store.
Tehice1995, A Playstation tech support person told me PSN does not honor prepurchases from retail companies for preloads. The only way you can predownload the game is if you prepurchased through the Playstation store.
I was told the codes given to me by Gmaestop will show up as invalid until they release the game. So no reason for a digital copy in the future in my opinion. You are going to have to wait for the mad download rush to subside to get the full game downloaded on release day. It would have been better if I just picked up a disc version of the game on release day. At least I wouldn’t have to watch the download counter tick down for a day and a half starting on release day.

I bought the digital copy and they say you can just go to the games PSN store page to pre-load it but all i see is a timer for when the game unlocks. Anyone else know how I can pre-load? It auto downloaded 2 very small files but the big 18 GB dl is not starting. I have auto download enabled also. Any help would be great.
They are getting destroyed on their twitter page too. But its past 5pm so it looks like they are sticking to their midnight western time release

381 go to the main screen and click on options while on the Destiny ribbon. Then go to info and it should show that its auto downloading in the background
I have to agree, waiting until 3am eastern is total bs. Yeah, it’s a small complaint, but it’s even worse because when I pre ordered new n tasty, it was playable at midnight EASTERN Time, so it’s not like it’s against one of you’re policies. I will more than likely be sticking to physical games from here on for this reason. I thought this would let me play the game quicker than if I went to gamestop. Sadly, I see I was wrong, and I will remember in the future. I love the system, but I’m really starting to hate sony and how they seem to not care what their customers want. My guess is that this is to keep a huge swarm of people on their servers at once.

So on a whim I decided to buy Destiny digitally anticipating being able to play it at midnight for at least a few hours tonight. Being in New York, I’m VERY disappointed that they’re holding off my ability to play until 3AM EST. Since I’m unable to begin playing a game like Destiny at 3AM, I won’t be able to even start the game until later tomorrow night due to schedule constraints. I might as well have pre ordered at a retail store two minutes away and gone to pick it up at midnight. It isn’t the end of the world but I sure as heck don’t plan on buying anything digital from the PSN from here on if there is a physical option available.
East coast here. So disappointed in the 3am thing when I have friends already playing with physical copies cause my town didn’t enforce the street date cause bungie said it was fine. Was planning an all nighter but now just going to bed I guess. Sony definitely lost future digital purchases from me. Congrats gamestop you just got a customer back. Lazy coding and even lazier customer service. Still waiting for greatness.
Sony you should have told people from the beginning that if you buy a ps 4 you that Sony will punish you with arc apply game selection a ps plus lineup worthy of Atari and when you finally come out with a worth while game you would do a 3 am release for digital copies at least it’s removing the 200 dollar battlefield debacle out of my mouth t

I hate how I bought into that marketing of “play it first on playstation”. Very frustrating……… More like play it 3 hours after launch.
Just got off customer service with Sony they said I won’t be able to redeem my guardian edition until Wednesday. Meaning I won’t be able to play until probably Thursday. Never buying the digital version of a disc based games again. This is ridiculous and discourages digital sales.
This is so very frustrating. I bought the digital version as to not have to go to a physical location, with no real gain since the game isn’t releasing at midnight to us. Seriously…I can’t resell it, I can’t play it on time at street date, and yet it still costs the same amount of money.
Where’s the incentive here?

I among many are very upset about my digital preorder. I cannot believe That I am unable to play until pacific standard time hits midnight!!! The main reason I preordered digitally was because I thought I would be able to have it installed and ready to go at midnight! This preload preorder incentive sony has is so bogus! Yeah I get it was stated on the psn store but not when I preordered it
I feel for those of you around New York. I gotta wait 2 hrs were those of you have to wait 4! But this is still ridiculous especially since other games did not have this restraint! I much agree I am a little bitter about the extra 3 hours waiting to play.I wanted to play the game a bit tonight.I was very much looking forward to this game. But unfortunetly i cannot stay up that late to enjoy the same game that paid the same amount for and most others will be blazzing though, Have to work , I dont think digital is so great of an option .Will think strongly about doing this anymore in the future.There really is no benefit for doing so, actually a less of a benefit.Just dont understand how they figured this would be cool with averyone that paid and has to wait for who knows what reason they cannot preload the situation before it releases.Make sence to me. The major selling point For me purchasing the digital download was no waiting in line, just turn on and play at mid-night. I guess that’s not the case being we have to wait until 3am est to play. I guess I should have read the fine print or sony should have made this a little more clear. I am one of many who are let down by this decision. Hard copies for me from here on out.

I “HATE” the 3am EST thing. It is so stupid. What is our real incentive for giving our business to Sony if they aren’t going to do right by us faithful gamers who pay for PSN and every other little thing? As a gaming company who’s been doing gaming for as long as they have, you’d think they would not shoot themself in the foot over something so bothersome and annoying to us. And pre-load is apparently just so they don’t overload their own servers come launch. They care more about their convenience than ours, CLEARLY. Not good.
A little disappointed, I really wish I would have given Gamestop my business instead of PSN. I didn’t realize they would penalize digital downloads by not allowing us access until 3 am. Last time I choose that option.
