Hi everybody – Since we’re just days away from the launch of Destiny on PS4 and PS3, I wanted to let you know that the game is now available for pre-load on PlayStation Store in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
This means if you’ve pre-ordered Destiny digitally via PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to begin downloading the game on PS4 or PS3 starting now. Once you’ve downloaded the game, you’ll be ready for the official Destiny launch this Tuesday, September 9th.
Here are your options for pre-loading Destiny:
- Take no action; Destiny will begin automatically downloading, provided that “auto-download” has been enabled on your PS4 or PS3. Over the next few days, your system will check for updates and the game will begin downloading by Monday, in time for the release on Tuesday.
- If you can’t wait until then, you can enable the download manually. In PlayStation Store, navigate to the Destiny game page and click the “download” button. If you haven’t yet preordered, you can preorder and then begin downloading.
The game won’t be available to play until 12:00am Pacific Time / 3:00am Eastern Time on September 9th, but you’ll be ready for the ultimate Destiny experience on PlayStation.

If they ignore it, they will be letting down a lot of us who supported them from the PS4 get go. Which is sad, I had so much faith in Sony when they made some awesome initial decisions with the PS4. But it looks like they are going down the same slippery slope they did with the PS3 and X1 initial launch.
They just announced on twitter the release date of the new Batman game, I made sure to, tweet, letting anyone know that they should double check before preordering digitally from the PS Store, and I will continue to do so so that other consumers can make an informed decision and avoid the headache that we are going through.
As much as I would love to continue to support PSN digital preorders, I can’t knowing how poor Sony customer support is in this regard.
Even though a 3 hour wait time is not the end of the world this is completely unacceptable for a number of reasons.
We were told by Bungie once it hits 12am Tuesday somewhere in the world the servers would be open. Okay I can wait until 12 on Tuesday no problem. But now 3 am? That’s just evil. It’s like sweeping the rug out from all the gamers who digitally downloaded to be able to play at 12. Also, this just does not make too much sense to me. Why can’t sony honor all the timezones? How hard is it to separate the two times for allowing access to the applications?
If you ask me this is unacceptable and us preloaders on the east are being duped. I was looking forward to playing until my bed time (before 3 am- I’m 21-self imposed bedtime)but now I can’t even though technically the game
Is released and the servers are live. I just cannot access it. That’s not right we were played.

Cool so glad I decided to grab Digital so I could avoid having to go to a midnight launch…only to find out now if I want to actually play tonight for a few hours I will have to go to a launch anyway. Who is the genius behind 3am EST launches…not like 9pm PST is that big of a deal. I know you have street dates but trying to unify to one specific day is increasingly pointless in the ever growing digital world.

Let me lay it out simply for all the idiots on here chastising us for complaining about Sony’s idiotic decision and complete lack of customer service:
1. Bungie servers are up, anyone with a hard copy can play the game right now.
2. People with digital version have to wait until 12am PST / 3am EST tonight.
3. This sucks because those with a digital version can’t play, not when Bungie servers are up, and not even for 3 hours when street release date breaks.
4. Sony hasn’t said ANYTHING about it.
Just flip the !@#$ switch so we can PLAY. Or at least answer us and say something about it. This is completely unacceptable.
I don’t want to hear any crap about “oh just wait one more day”. If you want to wait, that’s fine, but I don’t want to. I have to work all day and I’ve been waiting for this game forever. It is preposterous that people are playing it tonight and I can’t because Sony is lazy or incompetent, maybe both, AND doesn’t care enough to even post anything about it.
I’ve been telling my friends to get PS4 but just for this I’m going to tell them all xbox one is better.
Although I have no issue waiting. The whole point of getting the digital issue was convenience and playing it before most waiting in lines. Making us wait even though bungie has stated the servers are live now and people are already playing is ridiculous. I won’t be getting digital versions again in the future.
297, from everything I’ve read since 6am Central time, XB1 digital copies are in the same boat as us with the locked release date/time. They need to patch the game file to change the “Starts” info. Seriously doubt they will, though.

I really don’t understand the reasoning behind this decision. What’s my in incentive to buy the game digitally if I have the wait 3 hours after it’s release to play it? Bungie said themselves that as soon as it’s midnight somewhere the servers would be up, so why make so many people wait? Sorry Sony, all of my future game purchases will be at Walmart, you really dropped the ball on this one.

I am in customer support chat atm. Trying to get a refund so I can just go to gamestop. I mean 3 hours isn’t a big deal in the long run of the game, but I have 3 friends who all took off work as well so we could play tonight…and they are all doing hard copies. So now I am basically going to be either 3 hours behind them or just not playing tonight and having to catch up with them later. Thought the whole point of sony’s new PSN push was to “Play it first”: and the whole “be great with your friends” thing. Its cool I get to play it 3 hours later though and see how great my friends are….

According to the Sony Customer Service Representative I just talked to. No one will be able to play till 3 A.M PST.
Me- 100% No one will be able to play the game until 12A.M PST. Wether they buy it from the store or from online. Every single person has to wait until 12A.M PST?

That is incorrect. You called a call center in India or Mexico & they told you whatever would get them off the call/chat fastest. If you have the disc you can play right now.

Suggestion….activate the game but no access to servers until 3AM EST. In other words, you play by yourself at 12AM EST until all the regions are allowed to own the game, then allow access to the servers at 3AM. Nobody will be ahead in the crucible, and only EST people will be ahead in PvE. Levels and xp then go into the servers. That is fair, that is how you fix the problem so everyone is happy. Regardless PST has to wait, but the EST will quietly play by themselves until its all opened up. That is why I want to working at Sony because this simple solution with put a giant band aid on a big wound. It is the smart thing to do.

Customer service said while all sales are final, they will issue me a refund for my convenience this time. Assuming they have been hammered about destiny probably why the queue times tripled. Unforunately for me I live in a newer housing development (2 years old) and for some reason Sony still hasn’t gotten around to updated their address database. So I had to pay with Paypal and not my card. So they are telling me they can’t refund me through Paypal but can simply return the funds to my wallet….sigh. Going to escalate and see if I can get a real full refund….but for rest of you out there seems you CAN in fact get a refund!
Now find that 7-11 that is ok with breaking the street date and get your hard copy now lol
I asked for a refund via Chat and was denied. I called the 800-345-7669 and asked for a refund and it was granted. The email I received said “as a one time gesture of goodwill we have approved your refund” so I imagine some who call may still be denied a refund or cancellation of the pre-order.
Now I’ll just pick up my reserve pre-order at GS at midnite. While it’s only 3 hours, to me it’s the principle of treating digital download customers differently than physical disc customers, and I feel I have to protest.
BTW… “friends of the program” always get early access so they can be top of the leader boards. Destiny release is nothing new. Having higher gear thru earlier access is also they only way some of the “early birds” can compete in PvP. #SAD

I’m glad people are coming out against the 3 AM release. I would have gladly gone digital for this (and have for 90% of all my purchases) but to be ‘penalized’ because I live on the east coast is ridiculous. Since PSN’s sales aren’t competitive with physical media and I can’t trade-in or sell my purchase later, digital needs to win the battle for convenience. Sadly, Destiny’s release didn’t do that. I hope this changes in the future for highly anticipated games.
Good afternoon, I made the purchase of digital Guardians of Destiny Edition. I bought the PS3 only because of cross-platform, I’m downloading the PS3 version, but the version of PS4 that was supposed to be free, yet appeared to me !! This is normal ?? Or so I’ll be able afzer the Pre-Load the free version of PS4 after the official launch ???
@323 I think someone said earlier that the PS4 upgrade you get for buying the PS3 doesnt unlock till like 9/9 or 9/10 or something like that.
Correct, 323. Once game is officially launched, you will be able to go into PSN Store on PS4, or online I would imagine, and upgrade to PS4.

Just a final update. After 1 live chat rep. 2 Phone reps and a supervisor. I am just sticking with my 3am digital preorder. Due to having to pay with Paypal instead of just a CC because of my almost 3 year old address that isn’t in their database, I am unable to receive a refund beyond the funds being placed back into my PSN wallet. I am not a very avid console gamer, more of a PC gamer, so that money basically would sit there until next year and thus isn’t worth the 3 hour difference to have another 90 bucks tied up in limbo. That being said I was told, and I have it recorded, by a Sony CSR that a “trick” I could do to get the funds out of my wallet would be to file a paypal dispute and claim the account was fraudulently used. Nice to know Sony CSRs encourage you to falsely file Paypal Disputes. Which still makes no sense to me as Blizzard refunds directly back to Paypal. Why does Sony only refund back to CCs? Anyway my lesson learned is to avoid digital pre-orders and the PSN store as much as possible. My PS4 has so far been a let down with Watch Dogs being mediocre, Diablo 3 UEE still having hacked items, and now this Destiny launch debacle.
They haven’t replied because they’re all playing Destiny with their physical copies.

Biggest whiners I have ever heard. If you want to go through a bunch of crap and go sit at a store and wait for midnight and hopefully get a copy and then drive home and maybe get 2 hours of extra play time whilst also paying for gas then by all means….DO IT.

Well, so much for digital pre orders… first I cant cancel it, now I have to wait until pretty much the last time zone in the US in order to play it, which is a 3 hour (4 if daylight savings) difference. Until this changes, I will keep buying physical copies of games.

@345, it is literally second to last behind Japan. So the country the game was made in and the country that makes the console have to wait the longest. WOW! Japan is because the digital download was U.S. so its technically tomorrow already for them and they have to wait till probably Wednesday. unbelievable.
Everyone will be starting beta at same time. 12am west coast, 1am mountain, 2am central, (myself) 3am east coast. I don’t understand where all the anger is coming from. Its always been this way. When new games release digitally at store i have to wait till 2am central time, 12am pacific on release day to get. We have to wait for 12am west coast time for it to be official. Yeah time zones kinda suck when it comes to digital releases and server launches. I’m picking up my physical copy preorder at 12midnight but wont be able to play till 2am to wait on west coast. Just the way it is.
My issue is, I have the game. Downloaded, installed & updated it 2 days ago. The servers are live right now. Why can’t I play right now? Because I have a digital copy. If I had the disc, however, I would be playing. And yes, I can get the disk right now, if I don’t mind paying for the full game again at import prices, around $100 bucks just for the game. Just not cool on Sony’s part.
The whole issue of this isn’t so much the 3 hour window (though that does suck) as it is the game is currently live and we still can’t play it, not because of Bungie’s decision, but because of Sony’s. Bungie gave the go ahead to play when they opened the servers, but Sony is holding everyone back that has a digital pre-order with them for some arbitrary reason. THAT is what people are getting so upset about. If Bungie said “Servers go live at 12AM PST/3AM EST”, you would not see all this hate. However the publisher/developer has officially launched the game, but the retailer (in this case Sony) is saying nope, not yet, even though you already have it.
