Hi everybody – Since we’re just days away from the launch of Destiny on PS4 and PS3, I wanted to let you know that the game is now available for pre-load on PlayStation Store in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
This means if you’ve pre-ordered Destiny digitally via PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to begin downloading the game on PS4 or PS3 starting now. Once you’ve downloaded the game, you’ll be ready for the official Destiny launch this Tuesday, September 9th.
Here are your options for pre-loading Destiny:
- Take no action; Destiny will begin automatically downloading, provided that “auto-download” has been enabled on your PS4 or PS3. Over the next few days, your system will check for updates and the game will begin downloading by Monday, in time for the release on Tuesday.
- If you can’t wait until then, you can enable the download manually. In PlayStation Store, navigate to the Destiny game page and click the “download” button. If you haven’t yet preordered, you can preorder and then begin downloading.
The game won’t be available to play until 12:00am Pacific Time / 3:00am Eastern Time on September 9th, but you’ll be ready for the ultimate Destiny experience on PlayStation.

@dsx90 it’s not an OS lock it’s a Sony server lock. We have to wait for Sony to make a change to their servers to give us access to the game.
I won’t be doing any future digital downloads. When my friends used box store and have no unnecessary limitations on release.

Never again for digital, way to shaft your users Sony! With the bungie servers opening tomorrow morning and Sony not unlocking till 3am I will never use the digital system again, we are losing out on a ton of hours not just 3.

It really sucks that I live on the east coast so I have to suffer because and wait it’s not midnight in the pacific. It’s very unfair to say the least. I chose to spend my money with psn instead of another retailer and this is how I’m repaid? I will no longer be pre loading through psn store cause of this terrible situation. I shouldn’t have to wait 3 hours cause the game releases at MIDNIGHT!!! No other retailer in the eastern time zone releases the game at 3 a.m. so why would Sony? Just an absolute terrible move by Sony. But hopefully it’s just a mistake that they will learn from in the future. After all, this is America, the land of second Chances.
I’m not going to complain about the 3am release on the east coast. I just don’t understand how NHL 15 can be played at 12am EST, but Destiny is at 3am EST. Why not just make them both playable at 12am EST?
its not the 3 hours that bother me, its the 16 before that!!! Bungies servers are coming up early tomorrow morning as thats the 9th in NZ/Aus – that means we digital users lose all of the hours from when they come up until 3am the next morning, so basically between 12-16 hours – Now that pisses me off.

Terrible customer service. Funny thing is if you compare this posting to the other postings immediately available off the blog, this post crushes those in total number of responses and votes, yet hasn’t had a single reply. There’s one about the ps3 that has 8 replies on 50 comments, meanwhile we’re sitting here with well over 200 comments and 0 replies. Hell, there’s another with 25 comments and 15 replies. Lol.
They’re just going to hope it blows over and people forget.
Remember to remind them on the next AAA launch and don’t buy from the PSN, just support a local business.

With today’s technology, this new generation, the generation of digital content there is absolutely no reason NOT to release games 12:01 midnight per time zone. Other companies do it why cant you Sony? Making East Coast and Mid West people wait while physical copies play is a down right scam and defeats the purpose of a MID NIGHT release.
We Gamers Have Spoken. We will not purchase digital downloads until you fix this PROBLEM.
If you decide to keep it how it is then you need to advertise “play it first but only in you live in the pacific time zone!”
Not to mention we give you 50 dollars a year for the PSN service.

Seen this when I preordered the game. Still EA games open up at 12 am eastern. They need to make them all the same makes more since.
Destiny is the first game I am buying for my PS4. It is also my first pre-order digital download. If it is not available at midnight on Monday, it will assure that I will never buy another digital game again. I could have gone to Gamestop, Walmart, or even Meijers for a physical copy. I don’t see the advantage of digital if I can’t play something I paid for on the day and time is released. Not a good start for digital buying for me. Yes I’m east coast. Change the time Sony.
Waiting until 3am makes no sense for people who live in different timezones. This should absolutely be addressed before tomorrow night. And anyone who says making that observation/criticism is whining, I respect your opinion despite the fact it obviously ignorant & immature. We are consumers, we have a right to express our concerns regarding products we have purchased with hard earned money. Sony/Bungie please ammend this, at least give people access according to their particular time zones.
Sony this is your biggest release of the year don’t mess it up by penalizing people who gave you $60 early by buying digital and forcing us to wait 3 extra hours from when we could be playing by simply going in the store and buying a copy
Staggering the release would actually be better for both PSN and the Bungie servers. If they were to release it on all 3 time zones at the same time then it would certainly create some problems on the server side. Also it would be better for business because if people saw they could ACTUALLY play first digitally, they wouldn’t think twice about going to a Gamestop. Just my two cents to get this ball rolling and see if Sony doesn’t change their mind. Hopefully they do!
that is basically what’s going to happen since all users that pre-order via PSN will log into Destiny at midnight PDT, 1am MT, 2am CT and 3am EST that is all equal to 12am, PSN and Bungie’s servers will crash or at least lag heavily. So us east coast will again suffer cuz we won’t be able to log into Bungies server cuz they are gonna be floated when it hits 3am EST with the rest of the US for logging in at the same time

I’m a west coaster with the Digital copy. Even I think it wrong/sucks for the East coasters to have to wait till 3am. That and everyone with a physical copy of the game gets to play starting tomorrow morning?!

I would legitimately like to know the reason for this.
The servers will be up a full 20 hours before then, and we already have the game pre-loaded, so why arbitrarily keep it locked when players with retail will already be playing?

Exactly. I know people have their own situations to deal with, but I hate it when people swear off of things like buying digital over little things like this.
So….get over it. Even if digital copies did unlock at 12AM EST, plenty of people (IE the people responsible for publishing the big reviews) will already be ahead of you anyways. Or, if it did unlock at 12AM, there might also be a 20GB file to download which might take 3 hours.
Would you cry if the power/Internet suddenly went out at 12AM for 3 hours on any game’s launch day? I don’t think so.

You can’t just tell people after they have been told that as soon as the game is released (Since that is the whole concept of digital copy is meant for) we are able to play it. I speak for myself, I pre-ordered the game in the psn store the first month since it was up in the store to be pre-ordered

I just don’t get what the big fuss is. It’s not the end of the world to miss 12-16 hours of time or whatever because Sony won’t allow us US players to play until 3 am EST (11pm on 8 Aug for me since I’m in the Alaska Time Zone. Simple fact is you’ll still get to play right? I feel people are being melodramatic about Sony “losing a customer” simply based on the fact that we have to wait because of Sony. I think everyone should chill out and pump their brakes for a sec and look at the bigger picture of just playing the game. Honestly if you look at it all they did was really base US start times off of PST instead of EST. Let’s all just play and have fun when the doors open instead of gripe and moan before the release.

7 a.m. EDT
4 a.m. PDT
12 noon GMT
Not to be a **** #236, but it’s people with your attitude that lead to companies like EA not caring when they screw people because they know there’s customers out there that will just go, “eh, i only SORTA got screwed.”
If it’s no big deal I’d love to see you not play for that extra bit of time, even though you’ll be on right at 11pm like the rest of us, but unlike the rest of us you won’t have to wait deep into the night to play.
I have 6 hours left until I can play it but my friend has 4 hours, what the hell-_-
so my reward for spending all that money and giving extra to sony for the digital version is waiting 3 extra hours until i can play the game? that means i wont even be able to play at launch i will have to wait through out the entire day until i get back home to get started this is absolutely unacceptable see if i ever buy digital on your console again sony
i dont get the fuss either GSmoove225, we have been waiting 5 years for this game, what will 3 hours matter? This franchise will be going on for the next 10 years, does it really matter if you play or not the first 3 hours of those 10 years?? besides, we all know in the first few hours of any online game, logging on and playing is anything but easy to do anyway. it will probably take 3 hours just to log on and stay logged on to play because of the millions trying to log on at the same time. Its not a big deal at all in my opinion. Instead of *****ing, moaning and complaining about something that is out of your control, take advantage of the situation, and go to twitch. watch people play the game to get tips. locations of things you might have missed other wise, such as the chests hidden everywhere,also to learn how to fight certain enemy’s, and on and on. Anyway, its not the end of the world, we will all be playing soon enough.
I just submitted an “idea” to the share blog us playstation site about this midnight PST release shenanigans Sony is pulling. Hopefully it will show up soon for all of us to vote on.
So, by buying this game digitally I delay my ability to play it, remove money from the local economy, and put more money in sony/bungie pockets? That’ll be the last time I make that decision.
Sony was handling Destiny so well until they delayed access for the digital users. Midnight release is a big deal! PST was the worst time zone you could have chosen! Definitely feeling let down… Would be nice to know who is responsible for that decision.
Was this due to something with the developer or did someone at Sony really think this was better than EST/local time zone?? I know Bungie has said they don’t care about it, but I just don’t see why Sony would delay everyone’s access to 12 PST when they are trying to sell MORE digital copies! Seems especially counterintuitive.

Just so you know guys, on Xbox 1 if they change their local time zone to New Zealand the unlock time changes to Midnight NZ time, this means xbox will have access to the game before us, way to go Sony for a ”Ultimate Experience”
@223 and more: You guys do know there are 4 time zones in the United States right? ;) Anyway, I agree that Sony should release all at once. This is 2014 it can’t be too hard to pull off. There is a reason why we paid for this/ PS+ the least they can do is hold up to decent standards for their customers.
This will be my first and last Digital Download from PlayStation. The Convenience does not outweigh the inconvenience of having to wait while my neighbors are all playing.
