PS Plus: Preview September’s Free Game Lineup

There’s a little bit of déjà vu going on as our PlayStation Plus members will once again receive two games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store – Velocity 2X on PS4 and Joe Danger’s release on PS Vita. Of course, there are other great titles including Sportsfriends on PS4, PS All Stars Battle Royale and Hoard on PS3 and TxK on PS Vita.

On PS4, Plus members will be able to download Velocity 2X and Sportsfriends. Velocity 2X is the sequel to Velocity Ultra and features arcade shooting and puzzle platforming with a cool teleportation mechanic. Sportsfriends is the perfect title to complement your parties, as it features 4 mini-games – BaraBariBall, Hokra, Super Pole Riders and Johann Sebastian Joust– to bring out the competitive side in everyone.

For PlayStation 3 owners, you can nab PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, the game where you can get together with friends and pit PlayStation characters like Sly Cooper and Kratos against each other. And Hoard, an action-strategy title where you’ll play as a dragon attempting to get as much gold as possible.

PlayStation Vita owners can pick up Joe Danger for the first time on the platform and enjoy some good old fashioned stunt racing, as well as TxK, a remake of the classic arcade shooter Tempest.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting September 2nd. If you want to see these titles in action, check out the video below.

  • Worst month ever. For those saying WoW nice ps+ month with nice free games. The games aren’t free. We pay a rent, and mi not willing to pay a rent for lame games.

  • I have to say that Velocity intrigues me but the rest of the games leave me wanting. + used to be about giving us a shot at some bigger titles, now all we seem to get are games no one has ever heard of. I know PSAllstars was supposed to be a big game, but it wasn’t. I can understand its inclusion here, but drop us a fricking bone here. Give us something larger than a couch competition game and several games no one has heard of before today.

  • People should stop acting ling Sony is doing us a favor by giving these games “free”. If I dont like the games, I will say so. Am I entitled? Yes I am, I pay for the subscription. You think $50 is peanuts? Then why frig do you print a frigging $1 off coupon when you go to Jamba juice or wherever heck you go?

Of the six, 4 look fun. Two of them, they look like games that I wouldnt play even if I get paid to. Call them Indies, AAA or whatever, some people like the games that are offered, some people dont. The people who like will say stuff like “awesome” and people who dont get to say “WTF”. You cant bear either of them, be somewhere else.

Stop lecturing me (us or the rest of the folks) on being entitled, whining and what not. I dont want your opinion about my comments, Sony wants your opinion about their offerings. Be sure to limit your response to the same. Thank you ALL.

  • IGC games used to be better, It’s been a while since I got excited for anything. And now the only reason to keep paying for the subscription is to play the games they gave months ago…

  • Comparing this with what other console owners get for their $50 a year it is better but Sony we hold you to a high standard go back an dlook at some of those developers who need cash offer them a sweet deal for some plus titles or great sale prices

  • Also we would appreciate more replies to our comments particular those that are critical of some services I understand wanted to reply to those happy with your services but those of us with concerns deserve to be responded to as well.

  • Finally Sportsfriends is free! I still have my PS move controllers for this!

  • (Sigh) There’s no use to reason with all of you. You all never listen to me and continue to brag. This blog is filled with nothing but selfish greedy brats. I’m not trying to defend them whatsoever, it’s just that you people can’t learn to appreciate the offerings. I may not like the PS+ month, but at least I can try to appreciate them. The ones who can’t must be still little children.

Also, if anyone hasn’t played PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, give it a try. It’s a pretty fun game. I was wondering when it will ever be one of the PS+ freebies even though I have it.

@CrappaPoosta Stop speaking for everyone else. Whatever happened to never downloading indie games on PS+ again? As a matter of fact, you’re not a troll, but a worthless rat. You’re nothing but a pest to Sony and I hope they don’t listen to you in particular if you keep speaking for everyone. We’re not sick of it, it’s just you and all of your idiotic brothers and sisters. If you keep commenting, they’ll bring more indies on PS+. If you don’t want that to happen, do yourself a favor and please shut up.

  • I highly recommend PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. It is the best game I’ve ever played. Great graphics, great gameplay–Its like smash brothers but even better. You can still play the game online, either for a ranked competition or just casual play! I play every day, as do thousands of other players worldwide. The best part is the more you play, the better you get and the more enjoyable the fighting becomes! Seriously, get this game!!!

  • @DragonusFirus AGREED.

These games are not free, and we are entitled to our opinions regarding the service.

  • Another month of sorry games from plus. But hey, you’ve got a ton of games tied to your plus account, and it’s not like you’re willing to cancel and lose all of that, so of course they can give you crummy games more often.

Seriously, if I were new to the scene and considering plus for the first time, there’s no way I’d pay 50 bucks looking at the lineups these past few months.

Add some ps1 and psp sales.

  • @410, all stars is the best game you’ve ever played? I shed a tear for you. Not trying to be mean, but there are sooooo many games better than all stars. Like, a lot.

  • I have to say this (September 2014) of PlayStation Plus free games is great to me! This is one of those months I’m glad to have PlayStation Plus. I would keep the service either way as I love PlayStation and it’s my gaming choice with consoles/handhelds.

I was actually going to purchase Velocity 2X this Tuesday, if I don’t win the survey FuturLab is doing. Very excited for Velocity 2X, hope with PlayStation Plus and non-members that purchase it, that it does very well. Sportsfriends, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale and TxK are ones I’m going to also check out. Hoard and Joe Danger I’ll try to get to later in time. :)

  • I will always say thanks but not too excited about the games. A good month to catch up on my backlog.

  • sorry but fanboying a company you pay money for is just stupid, now we are forced to pay for psn, these games are just terrible, outlast was the only good one but now i cancelled psn it’s asking me to pay for it. such a joke, our hard earned money on terrible games & terrible online security, it’s a joke getting hacked & taken down by ddos script kids. FameGod on twitter posted a video on youtube on how vulnerable psn was. What a joke sony #not4theplayers

  • Well at least I’ve always wanted to try Hoard.

  • @MakoSoul That’s true, but crying about the service is not going to make things better. Either take it or leave it. These games are supposed to be an extra since you’ll most likely use it for online anyway. If you hate the service so much, leave and don’t come back. Buy an Xbox and see if their service is better. Don’t cry back to me that it isn’t.

@Splodem I thought it was the best game too. But unfortunately, you’re right. It’s not, when Superbot and Santa Monica Studios stopped supporting it and put DLC characters nobody wants.

  • Not bad, but not good.

  • Wow, this is absolutely horrible. The only good game is Playstation All Stars but I can’t think of anyone who hasn’t already played this game to death. Slacking off horribly this month NA Plus Team. In all my years of having plus, this is the baddest batch of games I’ve ever seen come out. There’s usually one or bad game but the rest make up for it. Here you have one “good” game but everyone’s played it and the other games are so bad it buries that one game in the dirt. Who ever is in charge of NA Plus should resign over this. Clearly someone dropped the ball and dropped it badly. You should be ashamed to present this as your work over the last month. One month to line up a new roster of Plus Games and you got this. How you keep your jobs after this debacle will beyond anyone’s understanding. You’re paid to do a job and you failed in every possible way. The only “good” game is a Sony game. That’s really really sad. Shame on you NA Plus Team. Resign.

  • while i dont particularly care for this months lineup you guys should really take into consideration the whole year worth of games as a whole maybe ps+ runs on a limited budget for the instant game collection and they give some weaker indie games so a few months from now they can give us something good well thats my thoughts anyway not sure if it works like that or not

  • Bad month dragon crown and muramasa was good for psn plus but this month nothing at all….atleast a few new vita game can look forward on getting like danganronpa 2….

  • @Gamerzlimited if we cant complain then they should close the option to leave a feedback. And maybe you are right. We might need to get an Xbox-One. I insist, games aren’t free.

  • Worst month ever! The only good thing is that Destiny is around the corner, just on time to save us from these crappy games.

  • First off. I have been a plus subscriber since the beginning and my subscription doesn’t run out until 2017 I also own a PS3, PS4 since launch, and PS Vita since launch. I am also reasonable and understand what plus can and cant give out for free in games. However this month of releases are absolutely horrid.

Velocity 2X: We just reserved Velocity for the vita a few months back and in MY opinion it a very basic old school space shooter. I have over a dozen of these games plus has given out, from resongun to superstar dust which were far superior then this.

Joe Danger: Again we received the sequel some months back… so why would we want the first game which is a downgrade from the newest one?

Sportsfriends: I have some interest in this game and I know a lot of thought and time has gone into making it since i have heard about for a few years now. ill accept it into the ps+ lineup as being one of those games many would of not purchased but are willing to give it a shot.

  • Playstation All Stars Battle Royale: This game has been on sale numerous times as low as $5.00. I am sure many have bought it at that price. Myself knew one day it would be on plus and i didn’t bite. Now it might be a little to late for people to be interested in it. Ive played it and its no smash brothers.

Hoard: This game was on sale a number of times and I actually picked it up on one of the sales. Wishing now I didn’t. The game really is dookie.

    and lastly

TxK: Oh look! Another old school space shooter. Again… I feel like i could of just busted out my Atari 2600 this month instead.

Also the flash sale over the weekend was cut short due to down time and many were not able to take advantage of that sale. Thanks for all the fish but it seems the ps+ sea is dry this month.

  • Very disappointing. I feel like Sony/PS has made a conscious effort to make PSPlus less valuable. This started with the lack of new core games over the summer. It has been several months since I’ve been interested in the offering. I bought five years worth of the service because I had faith in the offering. I’m starting to believe I made a big mistake.

  • Eh… Horrible lineup this month. This is one of the worst months I’ve seen since the service started.

  • @Gamerzlimited There are two things you are very wrong about. You do not speak for Sony. The bottom of the blog post says:

“We want your feedback so please take a moment to take our poll and leave us a comment below.”

People are leaving their feedback. Deal with it.

The second thing is the IGC is the first selling point of PS+ in Sony’s marketing. The games are not “extra”:

    “Membership Includes:
Instant Game Collection™ – Free games included with your PlayStation®Plus membership*
Online Multiplayer on the PS4™ system
Exclusive discounts of up to 75% on the PlayStation®Store
Up to 3GB of online game save storage
One membership works across PS4™, PS3™ and PS Vita systems”

  • Holy crap you’re dropping the ball HARD.

Seriously, instead of indie crap at least offer OLD but GOOD games.

Also, I would rather play Trials instead of Joe Danger.
And PSASBR sucks. D.O.N. it’s like 10000000 times better. Hell, just give us DreamMix TV World Fighters instead at least.

Screw it I will repost 2 posts:
Look, you don’t need “AAA” AND indie crap to please your Plus audiences. I bet most of the Plus users defend to hell and back the indie scene, but almost none of them care to even play them for mone than 1 hour, and let’s not talk about how many care to even FINISH them.
What I’m trying to say is that with just a little variety and GOOD selection of games (PS1, PS2 and PS3) you wouldn’t have to bother searching for “new big games” for plus. Seriously, just try to search on those “old” or not very known PS3 games and you will hit the mark quite nicely.

  • *Reposting*

    Ideas for IGC:
    Sonic Adventure 2
    Prince of Persia
    Devil May Cry
    Catherine
    Warp
    Hitman Collection
I don’t know… but I’m sure YOU know about unknown or good forgotten games because, hell, you work in this medium!

For PS2: God Hand, Siren series and that kinda’ games, Personas and SMT, GOOD GAMES etc
For PS1: Metal Slug, Silent Hill, MGS, arcade/puzzle games, etc etc

  • Filler month. I guess I’ll have to wait yet another month to finally see Guilty Gear Accent Core XX for free…

  • A bunch of whiney people complaining allows the time. If you don’t like the games don’t buy plus. I have a ps4 and I have like 16 games for the system and I am happy. If I don’t like a game they offer it is no big deal because I already have a long backlog of games to finish but I appreciate plus and I am not going to complain about the service since I am not a whiney spoiled child like all these people here

  • Really liking the PS4 games for this month! Was gonna buy Velocity anyway so thats even better! I wish Joe Danger would be on PS4 at some point thou! I’d really enjoy that but oh well

  • @inuyasha_15. If you dont like what you read thats your problem. You might be happy with a ballon thats you so stop crying and complaining about other comments. Stop Boeing a jerk. By the way… Too many games and just 8 plats lol

  • this looks okay. i’ve been storing up on ps4 games since day and now that i’ve pre-ordered Destiny bundle i’ll finally be getting ps plus stuff on all consoles. God….please help this videogame addict pass this semester :)

  • Is it weird that I consider Don’t Starve (PS Vita) part of September’s Lineup?

  • the worst line up ever.

  • Yeah! Great titles again for psvita! Thank you Sony! Can’t wait!! :D

  • I’ve literally waited for a sale for Horad for over 2 years, and it’s never dropped in price. I’ve told myself that any slight deviation in price, and I’ll buy it on the spot. Thank you, PS+, for giving me the game I’ve spent countless hours playing the demo for free!! It’s a totally lame story, but you guys have no idea how happy this makes me!

  • This is hands down one of the worst months if not the worst month for PSN+

Months like this make me wonder why I should stay subscribed.

  • Not entirely happy with this month. Maybe some nice sales would change that.

  • Generally pleased with PS+ offerings, but this month is a disappointment. The big game of the month is All-Stars? But anyone who is interested in the game almost certainly bought it when it was on sale for PS+ members for $5 3 months ago. In agreement with the folks who say the quality of content has declined since the new “one month only” structure was introduced.

  • Unfortunately I already have Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale and since I don’t have a ps4 or vita currently, I’m not really looking forward to this months selection, I’ll give hoard a try though

  • While September is looking like a steaming pile of monkey crap, it at least gives me a chance to catch up on the backlog of games I have gotten from ps plus. I do not have a ps4 yet but so far all the selections from the ps plus look like old school arcade games for the most part. I don’t see a reason to upgrade to the ps4 if the games I will be getting look like 1980’s arcade games. Fun or not the look of them gives me no reason to upgrade. I have been a plus member for many years now and it seems since the pulling of the E3 evergreen games they are not even trying anymore.

  • @ShadowJR Feedback on the other hand is acceptable because they will most likely going to listen to it. A bunch of comments won’t make them listen as it’s going to be riddled with company hate. They’ll most likely going to delete it.

@MakoSoul You’re right, I don’t speak for them. Except the people on the blog is abusing it and saying that it sucks is not helping. I’m not going to hand pick which users are as there probably over a 1000 PSN users in the blog. True feedback is trying to be honest and make sure they get the message. It can be done by taking their surveys. This is my opinion, but I consider it an extra as PSN discounts alone make it worth my subscription. It’s better to buy it for keeps than get it free as they have expiration dates. Online for PS4, discounts on PSN, and game save storage alone should make your money worth something. And who says you have to pay for a year? If you’re not satisfied, pay only for a month first.

  • I hate to say this, because I support PSN +, but lately the monthly games are getting more and more pathetic. Hoard and Joe Danger are like 2010 games….. OLD indie games. They pale in comparison to this month’s lineup. Oh come on Sony, don’t make us hate PSN +, you can do better than this…. (-_-)

  • I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much negativity for a monthly collection of games like this one. Not that I disagree, but from my personal preference of games, I think there have been worse. I’m looking forward to Velocity 2x the most. I really enjoyed the first game, and this one looks even better. I’m also want to try out all star battle royale and sportsfriends. The rest of the games I’m not too excited for.

  • For IGC seems very little value to me, when my subscription time is up, I’ll have to calculate the sum of ps+ discount I’ve had.
If it sums at least 49$ then I’ll continue paying ps+.

  • Wake me up, when September ends
