Diablo III on PS4: New Ultimate Evil Edition Details

Greetings, nephalem! John Hight here to bring you an update as my team and I prepare to unleash a whole lot of evil on consoles everywhere. I’m pleased to say that on August 19, just two short weeks from now, you’ll be able to lay waste to Malthael and bring peace to the streets of Westmarch from the comfort of your La-Z-Boy with the release of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition.

The Ultimate Evil Edition is filled with all the features, fast-paced action, and legendary loot included in the Reaper of Souls expansion set, as well as all of the content of the original Diablo III. With a new chapter to play through and the new Crusader class to master, plus the freedom to explore endlessly with Adventure Mode, your path to new heights of power will be literally in your DualShock-wielding hands.

I want to remind everyone to get your preorders in if you haven’t already. Doing so will land you a devilishly sweet pair of Infernal Pauldrons, which provide some powerful bonuses for your characters, and they look pretty cool too—a plus considering you can also use them for transmogs (a new feature available in UEE). For those who pre-purchase the game digitally on the PlayStation Store, you’ll also pick up a set of helm and weapon transmog recipes, a Spectral Hound minion, and three additional character slots.

The Ultimate Evil Edition also includes some console-exclusive features—like Apprentice Mode, which boosts lower level players when they’re playing with higher level players; the Nemesis system, which sends monsters that have slain your character on to wreak havoc in your friends’ games; and more—all of which make playing with your friends even more challenging and rewarding. We’ve also teamed up with Sony to bring PS3 and PS4 players some exclusive content: a Nephalem Rift inspired by The Last of Us, and a larger-than-life transmog armor set based on Shadow of the Colossus. If you haven’t seen these yet, you should check them out at our blog.

Diablo III Reaper of Souls: Ultimate Evil Edition on PS4

For players who’ve been holding off on bringing justice to Diablo on console, now is the perfect time to join the fray, as the Ultimate Evil Edition is a maxed-out version of the game, with Diablo III and all of the latest updates for that, plus all of the new content that we launched with the Reaper of Souls expansion. And if you’ve already played Diablo III on console, I have good news for you as well: you’ll be able to transfer your characters over into this new release and continue your adventures—even across console generations.

One more cool piece of news for PS4 players: the next-gen console architecture makes it much easier for us to offer ongoing patch support for the PS4 version of the Ultimate Evil Edition. This means that as we continue to patch the game on PC, we’ll now be able to roll out related patch content, as appropriate, on PS4 as well. It’ll take some additional time beyond the PC patch rollout, but we’ll get them to you as quickly as possible.

After slaving away in the deepest depths of the Burning (development) Hells, I’m excited that the game is almost here and ready for you guys to play. Slay well, nephalem, and we’ll see you in Hell!

  • Will a demo be released on psn ?

  • I’m really glad to see that you will continue to support the game post launch. I already have the PS3 version, but i am really looking forward to getting this for the PS4. The new features look amazing.

Will the controls be any different between the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game?

  • Blizzard – Thanks for your community involvement! Thanks to your candid answers on yesterday’s Gamespot live interview and your post here, I will be purchasing a digital copy of the game through PSN and a PS4 to go with it. I’m glad to read that there will be substantial patching of the PS4 version. Can’t wait to play!

I’ll probably only get this if Blizzard supports the game post-launch with patches and updates.

Yeah, Jon confirms this in the article :)

I think you misunderstood what he was talking about. Sure, it’s got all the current updates, but they (someone at blizzard – I forget who now) said that they weren’t sure if they were going to support the console games after initial release. So that means that PC players will get updates, more content, etc, etc, etc it sounds like console players will be left in the dust in the future

  • ^^ Nevermind – I missed the last part of the article. Ignore me. Nothing to see here. Move along

  • Actually, he only says PS4 players will get future patches. What about the PS3 players? Apparently those guys are going to be left in the dust in the future? Maybe games shouldn’t be released on a platform if they’re not going to support it just the same as any other?

  • I`ll be passing on this, already planned out what I`ll be picking up on the week this will be releasing.
Lack of Cross-Play is another negative point for me. was hoping I`d be able to play with my friends or who decided to get the PS4 version over the PS3 version and vice-versa but doesn`t seem to be the case.

Have fun to those who are getting it though.

  • To add to my #50 reply, I just ended up getting it after watching the Gamespot demo with Blizzard. So if you are looking for someone to run around with just hit me up. I’m still deciding on starting up a Crusader or a Monk, I love both classes. I’ll port my 360 game over but I think I only had a barb and a witch dr in that version.

  • I’m going to be playing the hell out of this game. I purposely didn’t get it on the PS3 just so I could play it at its full glory on the PS4. It was hard to hold out for that long, but I’m very glad that I did!

  • Wait, “spectral hound minion”? If that’s only digital pre-order, then sorry Gamestop, I’m canceling.

  • The blog here suggests those are digital pre-order exclusives but the Blizzard blog indicates all pre-orders get those bonuses including the minion. Also the exclusive PS content like transmorg set and rift are console exclusives and not a pre-order only offer.

  • Thanks, SpyDude.

  • I want this, badly, I’ll just have to find a way to pull myself away from Final Fantasy XIV to find time to play it. ;)

  • cant wait to play this on my ps4 already have it reserved on ps store this is going to b epic i have the platinum for diablo 3 on ps3 will try to get platinum on ps4 as well

  • 12 more days…. can’t wait!!!! I put so many hours into the ps3 version that i cant wait to play it on my ps4.

  • I’m glad I waited for the PS4 version. My poor thumbs!

  • No loyalty reward for PS3 Diablo 3 owners. I’m not shelling out another $60. I could see maybe $20. Same goes for The Last of Us remastered. Sony is really dropping the ball on these re-releases

  • PS4 Patch support makes the game a purchase for me.

  • @67 You do know that Sony isn’t publishing Diablo 3 and therefore has no control over the pricing of the game, right?

  • Spent all my money on my honeymoon… It was a nice trip but now I regret it.

  • I need to buy the new complete version or a upgrade version will be available?
    I have Diablo 3 on PS3.

  • any chance of stereoscopic 3DTV support?

the PS3 version had kinda low quality audio assets in a few places, will the PS4 version have better quality audio assets?

  • If I have Diablo 3 on PS3, is there going to be like an upgrade offer like Call of Duty or Battlefield? Cause I would then be sold on it!!!

  • I don’t have a PS4 yet but got the PS3 version on Pre-Order. I all ready got the platinum trophy for the other version and can’t wait to dust off my Wizard and start the looting and kill all over again. :)

  • Finally some Diablo 3 newsssss

i first played this game on the PS3 back in September 2013 the DEMO not the Full game and i loved itt…

Since then i have waited for the PS4 version and its almost here its been seriously my most anticipated game lol i knoww…

  • So there’s no upgrade program? Already bought the original for PS3. Not gonna buy it again.

  • i pre-ordered the orginal Diablo III on ps3, now i have pre-ordered Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition, i am glad to see my save file can be imported but what i would like to know is the dlc’s that came with the original game carry over as well? there are a few items every newly made character receives some just for buying the game some for a pre-order.

so in short. need clarification on what transfers over from original d3 on ps3 to this new version

  • Great game. I am a fairly low-level Paragon 18 on PC, but the ROS expansion that comes with the original D3 in this package is well worth the money. It never gets old and adventure mode is endless. I have a buddy that is around a Paragon 125 with his Demon Hunter.

  • My first Diablo Game EVER !!!!, it’s pre ordered and PAID for, BUT no friends who like this type of game.
Feel free to add me MI1978KE

  • I am so pumped for this i was kinda mad that ps3 had no new content patch because it had bad hardware. But now knowing that ps4 will have content patchs pump me up more time to take my 4 week vacation on realese lol

  • I am deffently getting this game when it comes out on the 19th of august that’s for sure! :)

  • Can you transfer characters from Diablo 3 PS 3 version over to Diablo III: Reaper of Souls on PS 4 ?

  • still not available on the PSN store here in NZ!

how are we supposed to preorder ??

  • @82 yes you can. see here for details: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/15058023

  • @Sabvre and @sanity1, thanks for the info in respond to my questions.

  • Only one armor set from SotC, or one for each class?

Either way I’m there on day 1.

  • Hello I don’t mean to sound dumb but i have never played a Diablo game on a platform other than pc but i really want to purchase this game but i am wanting to know if its two player. like can me and my husband sit down and play on the same TV from the same ps3? at the same time? Thank you for your time

  • @87 yes you can actually play together on the same ps3 and same tv.

in fact you can play up to 4 people on the same console/tv which is a hellava lot of fun

  • and is it story line we can play together or is it only some silly side story stuff?

  • you can play the entire campaign, all 5 acts and any amount of side stuff like bounties that you like as a team.

they even added an apprentice mode, so if one of you gets a few more levels than the other you will be brought into range with one another so you can keep trucking along.

  • @77 Asumos666 they have mentioned that DLC content will transfer over, even when upgrading to the next-gen consoles on the same platform. eg PS3 -> PS4 will work, x360 -> XB1 will work. only doesn’t transfer if you are hopping platforms.

it’s mentioned (somewhere) in their console section on the us.battle.net Diablo forums.

  • Definitely getting it, I seem to be more attracted to playing it on console than my PC. I liked Diablo 1 on PSX rather than PC too :)

  • You guys handled Diablo 3 lazily on console. Diablo 3 looked poor and ran worse on the PS3. I expect the PS4 version to run solid, but, you guys are still severely lacking graphically.

  • The main questions I have is: Can I play with my characters from PC on PS 4? If so can my friend play with me on PS4 using his character from PC? Is it crossplay? Please answer!

  • Is there going to be an official Sony response to consumer feedback about the Last Of Us Remastered DLC stringing on just a week after 80 pieces of DLC were released before the game’s launch, Sid? I noticed you are happy to chime in on this happy story, but you are staying away from touching the crapstorm called Remastered DLC.

Or do you only respond to positive things and let Naughty Dog hang? At one point the Naughty Dog Community rep was literally laughing at comparisons to Capcom. I think Sony cut him off?

It would have been better to answer questions on the piece it was written, meanwhile consumers are waiting while you move onto your next venture of the month. If you can’t answer questions, just say so. You get crazy bad pub and there are literally people working for Sony whose job is to handle this, so handle it?

  • @94 Igoreshkinn no there is unfortunately no crossplay whatsoever.

you cannot transfer your PC character to any of the platforms, and none of the platforms can crossplay to any other console platform or PC.

each is a completely separated ecosystem.

  • Who are you speaking to?

  • I bought the PS3 version of D3 when it came out last year & I am going to buy the Ultimate Edition for my PS4 next week. I don’t mind double dipping for this game, because I like RPGs & currently the genre on the PS4 is almost non-existent.

I am also glad that Blizzard will patch the PS4 game concurrently with the PC version. I can’t wait to play this game on PS4!

  • @61

I’m not sure which post you’re reading on Blizzard’s site, but the one I’m reading clearly states that those items are digital pre-order exclusives.

  • @ 95 en_em Thank you for answer. So I’ll definatly wil not buying this. It’s really disapointing. I have60+ lvl character on PC, I don’t see any reason to start from begining. I hope Blizz will change this in a near future.
