PlayStation Plus: Terraria Free for Members

Grab some of your friends and explore a 2D sandbox world where you can gather materials to craft, build whatever you desire and fight monsters like harpies and demon eyes. Once you’ve gotten used to the regular monsters, there are several bosses you can work toward defeating like King Slime. Of course you should be relatively prepared for these encounters, so create some decent gear and weapons before you try to take them down.

There’s a few different sales going on, first is our Only On PlayStation sale, featuring exclusive titles to our platforms, and then there are more sports titles discounted as a continued part of our Sports Sale.

You can download Terraria after the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow, 6/17.

  • @ KnifingGrimace

Exactly. Indies are just as valid as AAA titles, but it’s weird to see a machine that can run Uncharted: Golden Abyss only running software that requires half of the hardware’s potential it has if not less.

There are many Japan-only games for Vita, just waiting to be localized.

  • Last year their were ~63 games made free on PS+. Now their will be 72 per year…why are people posting how terrible a change this is?

  • Ouch, I just recently got Sorcery Saga and now it finally goes on sale for a deep discount. That’s bad luck for me but I would recommend anyone who has been on the fence about it get it at that price. It isn’t the greatest of mystery dungeon style games but it is pretty good.

  • @25 Satnamji

I think it’s PS3. But I also think it’s cross-buy. I got it free from the outage on PS3, then when it became available on vita, that was free too. I don’t think it’s PS4 cross-buy though.

  • @52 If you only own a Ps3, last year you get 3 IGC + 3 x 12 months. Now it would be 2 x 12 months. PS plus nowadays is a good deal for multi-platform subscriberw but if you only own a PS3 or only a vita then expect the big change.

  • So, with all the PS3 HD remakes of PS2 games getting ported to Vita, any chance of us getting portable Ico and Shadows of the Colossus?

I think that whoever’s in charge of the Vita IGC lineup should take a look at supplementing the indies with more PSP titles or even PSOne classics. There are a lot of great games there that are much larger and more satisfying than yet another retro-styled side-scrolling shooter or platformer despite their age.

  • I wish Terraria was a cross buy. Would love to play this game on the PS3, or even the PS4.

  • Very weak sale for only on playstation games.

  • Wait, a new Hot Shots Golf came our for PS3 last year and I totally missed it?? I am definitely grabbing that one tomorrow for $5!!

  • Finally a sale on Hot Shots Invitational.
A little lame you did PSP last week, but luckily waited on Hot Shots 2.
Tennis is awesome, and with a sale like that I’ll be looking at DLC.

Hope Tearaway sees another sale. The rest I got, or other versions.

  • As a fairly new Playstation owner this is pretty good for me. Hot Shots Golf was something I was interested in and will be picking up, same with Flower. I’m also considering Twisted Metal even though that would be mostly for nostalgia.

  • Are any of these deals coming to the UK? I’m interested in FIFA14 if it’s cheap enough.

  • i dont like saying this but, last year i paid with no doubts the plus membership. This year its kind of hopeless

  • At the moment, you’re getting shafted for having spent the money on the newer console.

You’re better off having a vita, PS3 and Wii U for Mario Kart and Monster Hunter and maybe consider a PS4 early next year.

    I’m considering selling my PS4.

  • NO ONE wants Android ports on the PS Vita, Sony. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for you to comprehend this.

We bought a $249.99 system to play AAA titles on, not cheap shovelware, indie garbage and whatever you can get your hands on the cheapest.

Pro tip: If it is available on iOS or Android, WE DO NOT WANT IT IN THE IGC. I don’t know a single person who owns a Vita who does not also own a smartphone.

You aren’t going head-to-head with Apple and Google, here. I see that you’re trying to siphon off some of their business, and win back customers, but, you do that with quality titles, not crap we passed up on our phones because it looked like garbage slapped together by some college kids who were a bit too fond of the 8-bit era.

Where in the hell did you get the idea that your core customers were hipsters who loved all things indie?

  • Okay, guess I’m one of the few people that doesn’t have Playstation All Stars or just came to complain about indies on Vita or PS4, so I’m happy with this.

  • @65 Are you actually under the impression that Terraria is just an Android/iOS game? Really? Or are you just another of the uninformed indie haters?

  • Pretty lame week, just like last week. Expected more because of E3 and everything.

Madden 25 for the PS4 on “sale” for 50 bucks? That’s a rip off, not a sale. It’s the middle of June and that game will be completely obsolete in August. That’s almost as bad as selling an MMO for 50 bucks when the servers are going to shut down in two months. Not cool.

  • To those of you whining about no yearly titles, can you not do math? It wasn’t like you were getting 6 new titles each month, they were just there for new subscribers to get. But if you downloaded Uncharted, etc.. you already had them. There’s nothing new for you.

Yes, PS3 is going from 3 games/month to 2. But PS3 is now last generation and you can’t expect Sony to keep supporting the console. The bandaid will have to be ripped at some point.

For PS4 owners, they are getting two games a month now instead of one. So could you stop thinking about yourselves and be happy for PS4 owners? You’ll get those PS4 games too when you upgrade.

The IGC collection is the best buy in gaming. Good job, Sony

  • is that LBP vita on sale?

  • @67; No, I was already familiar with that game when it came out on Windows. But, if it can be easily ported practically 1-to-1 to a phone, I do not want it on my Vita. I have a phone for crappy games that I don’t care about. I bought a Vita to play excellent AAA titles by excellent, well-known developers, not to give indie programmers and coders an outlet for their Made-For-Hipsters games.

The PSP, for all of its flaws and faults, is still my favorite portable gaming console, due to the enormous amount of high-quality games and support from fantastic third-party devs. The Vita is pretty much flailing around while Sony tries to figure out if they want to turn it into a Wii U tablet for the PS4, to dedicate it to 99-cent apps that no one plays on Android anymore, or to offer slightly lesser ports of PS3 titles, kind of like how the PSP did with PS2 titles.

There’s a reason Capcom and Konami and Squeenix and Atlus and Camelot and all of the rest of these devs haven’t crapped out a game like Terraria. They usually publish GOOD games.

No one is going to buy a Vita to be able to play Terraria on it.

  • How about putting a sale for some ps1 classics and psp games. That way vita owners actually have something to purchase. I’d love got get parasite eve (and just about every other ps1 rpg on there) and there’s plenty of good psp games, the only problem is the same group of them have been on sale 3 or 4 times since I’ve been a member.

  • Can’t wait to hear about july’a offerings. This month wasn’t that good. Neither sly nor 2k made me wanna turn on my ps3.

  • @71 Terraria wasn’t ported 1 to 1 to phones, it’s a game that really needs physical controls. You could port just about any PSP or Vita game to phones these days, that doesn’t mean you’re going to want to actually play them on phones.

I agree that some of the Android/iOS ports are just junk and have no place on the Vita, like that game that came out last week on PSN, but Terraria isn’t one of those games. It’s a damn good game with quite a bit of depth (no pun intended).

And funny enough, I actually know two people that went out and bought a Vita earlier this year when Terraria came out.

  • @Gorvi; I am not sure if they bought a Vita JUST to play Terraria.

I bought one specifically for Mortal Kombat on-the-go, and the hopes that moar Final Fantasy titles would come out for the Vita. FFX-X2 HD Remix took care of that for me, and with the servers still up, for some strange reason, I am still playing Mortal Kombat more than any other game on the Vita.

I agree that phones are pure crap when it comes to controls, especially the ones with the on-screen analog stick that is always wonky. But, Terraria was originally a Windows game. More games fail than not, when they try to go from mouse controls to a controller or portable device. Console Sims games, anyone?

PS+ has been good to me, for the most part. The first few months of this year absolutely paid for my subscription. Not complaining on that end. But, if PS+ was intended on being a selling point for the Vita, for players who own neither a PS3 or a PS4, there is very, very little there that would compel a person to believe that it was a service they could not do without.

I had to buy a PS3 to make my PS+ subscription worth it. A lot of people won’t, or can’t do that.

  • @CraddaPoosta Yeah, Plus was awesome at the beginning of the year. I’ve still been cool with the free games the past two months (I’m one of those elated to see Terraria, the touch screen + physical controls sound like a great combo for that game), but the discounts have been a HUGE letdown the past two months. I went from spending at least an average of $40 if not more each month through April to now not having anything that interest me at all the past two months.

  • That’s a hella sweet discount for Sorcery Saga. Totally going to pick that up.

  • Good update. I have a question though. Can we expect anymore in the way of sales or discounts for anymore Warframe content. I unfortuneately missed out on the platinum sale when it was ongoing.

  • Yessss! I was waiting for a sale for Sorcery Saga: Curse Of The Great Curry God! That is one hell of a sale. Will pick this up no doubt. That and Flower for the PS4. Great deals!

  • @ CraddaPoosta,

Capcom, Konami, and Squeenix publish GOOD games? That is news to me.

BTW, it’s the hipsters that are complaining about Indies, not the ones praising them.

Still I completely agree with your assessment of the PSP, and in some ways the PSVita.

  • I’m getting Sorcery Saga Curry God. Thank you.

  • Street Fighter, alone, redeems Capcom, which is to say nothing of the Phoenix Wright series.

    Konami? Metal Gear? Contra?! CASTLEVANIA??!!

Squeenix… if I could get back but a tenth of the hours of my life that Final Fantasy games have stolen from me.

I always envision people who really, REALLY enjoy indie games as douchebags wearing tight, highwater corduroy pants, possibly rocking a beret, or at least an emo fringe hanging in their eyes; sipping a soy latte, wearing a flannel shirt, but ironically, moaning that it’s so hard to find a good pair of Buddy Holly glasses.

With an 8-track player in their station wagon inherited from their aunt.

  • Still can’t download Pixel Junk Shooter(Error has occurred)… is someone fixing this issue???

  • @CraddaPoosta I love indie games, and that couldn’t possibly be further from what I am. I can go from playing Dark Souls 2 to Thomas Was Alone, from Warframe to Spelunky, from Metal Gear to Luftrausers, and everywhere in between. A good game is a good game is a good game is a good game, whether it was made by three people or three hundred, whether it’s the latest cutting edge 1080p eye-bleeding graphics or if it looks like I could have run it on the 486 we had when I was a kid.

I agree, the Vita really needs more big games, I’d love to see it. I’m happy playing indies and JRPGs on it, but some new, big, AAA original games in the vein of AC: Liberation (sans the bugs), Uncharted, or WipEout, that’d be great.

  • @83 have you tried starting the download from your computer using the web store? Might be worth a shot

  • Are the Destiny White PS4 Bundles gonna be extremely limited like the original PS4 launch was …. cuz …. i really want one :) i wanna pre-order it at gamestop :P

  • Not much here for long time plus members we’ve been given these games before or have seen these sale prices and brought them already.

There were more recent titles that would have suited this sale even better like

    TLoU
    Tales games
    Persona games
    Journey
any ps1 ps2 or HD remake
    GT6
    GOW
    MGS
    Motostorm
    Resistance
    Killzone Heavy Rain
    Beyond 2 souls

AND SO MANY MORE YOU COULD HAVE CHOOSEN

@CraddaPoosta You need to realize that there are plenty of people that don’t share your opinion. You throw around words like “nobody likes this” or “nobody wants that,” and you’re just plain wrong. I bought the Vita to play Terraria. Did I buy it just to play Terraria? No, of course not. But the people who buy consoles to play just one game aren’t really gamers, are they? Terraria plays much better on Vita than even PC as far as I’m concerned, and way better than android/ios.

Do I wish there were more AAA games like Killzone Mercenary? Most definitely. But you need to understand that it is not really Sony’s fault that there aren’t more. The blame for that goes to those ios and android devs that we all hate so much. People don’t want to spend that $200 for a device that can’t quite reach console quality. They would much rather spend little to nothing on smartphone apps that can hold them over until they get home. The Vita is an amazing device, but it is not profitable enough for Sony, or anyone else, to spend a great deal of money developing games for it.

By the way, Sony can get some of the blame for implementing their own ludicrously expensive memory cards. However I don’t believe that’s a huge factor.

  • Looking forward to Terraria. I’m on a bit of a crafting high after playing Minecraft, Starbound and Space Engineers. Hot Shots Golf PS3 is tempting. Enjoyed the game on Vita, but I’ve barely dug into that.

  • smoothboarder540

@Gorvi When it comes to the Vita, I agree 100 percent with that last post. It’s clear that AAA just don’t sell well on Vita and frankly, I don’t really enjoy them as much. It just feels to me that they try hard to be console quality, but just aren’t good enough. I don’t know, maybe I’m just spoiled from the high level ps4 games. So in that respect, I can find a way to enjoy just about anything on Vita even though some may not reach the level I’d like them to reach.

However, I don’t feel the same about the PS4. That system was built for games far beyond most Indies in a variety of ways. I do enjoy Indies, but they just can’t keep me playing. The majority of the ones released for the ps4 can be beaten much more quickly than the usual $60 game. Also, with the market being oversaturated with Indies, the quality and innovation is just dropping off. I feel like they’re eventually going to become ios type games, after they eliminate all of the mid-level devs first.

  • i’m interested to check out terraria. one of the rare instances i haven’t already bought the plus game. at those prices i’ll definitely be picking up hot shots, sorcery saga and possibly PSASBR. already own most of the other titles.

  • I’m so incredibly far behind with my games that there is no possible way I could complain, no matter how hard I might try. I’m disabled, stuck at home with way too much pain for one person to take on each day, so I guess my priorities are different, for one thing. But I would definitely be going crazy if no for my PS3 all these years. With money being tight, I’m incredibly thankful for all the games to be piling up on my download list for $50 a year while I slowly work to tackle them.

With Vita and PS4, I will have them eventually. The mind and heart is willing but not the wallet. It’ll happen in time, though, and part of what fills me with contentment is knowing I’ll have all those games waiting for me out of the box.

So definitely, when whiners are saying “Nobody wants” this or “Everybody is tired of” that, stop trying to speak for me and the rest of us grown-ups who grew up with Atari 2600 and the original NES, and appreciate what we now have. Speak only for your spoiled self.

  • So I just got PlayStation Plus and I receive an e-mail afterwards confirming my purchase. In the e-mail it asked me if I am part of the Sony Rewards program and if I’d like to sign up. I never heard of the Sony Rewards program and it seemed like a neat idea so I signed up for it. Unfortunately since I made my purchase before signing up I wasn’t able to get the points for the purchase that I made. I wish they would of gave me some notice beforehand asking if I wanted to sign up because I would of in a heartbeat knowing that I’d be rewarded for my purchase. Bummer :( Well here’s some games for the PlayStation 3 I’d like to see on PlayStation Plus hoping I have a bright future ahead of me. I hope other gamers agree with the list as well. Cel Damage HD, Flower, Rain, Skydive: Proximity Flight, Arkedo Series, The Unfinished Swan, Derrick the Deathfin, Papo & Yo, Journey, Cubixx HD, Limbo, Explodemon!, Cuboid, Bentley’s Hackpack, Okami HD, Resident Evil 4, Beyond Good & Evil HD, Stacking, Siren: Blood Curse, and Echochrome.

  • Indie garbage igc and indie garbage sales with a couple of 5 year old titles most peoples have already or played and dont want. Plus has changed to serve the computer nerd indie loving gamers. You guys saying how great the update is and how peoplke who are dissapointed are self entitled and should be grateful. first of all the digital stuff is over priced. We pay for the same process it take to pruduce make package ship and sell the physical copies, when it doesnt take place. Why should i have to pay material, packaging and shipping costs that determine the prices of a physical copy. Sure people who dont have internet would pay a lot more if digital was priced accordingly but theres trade in value that goes along with physical. When we buy digital we pay too much and cant trade back. And for me ps plus was made it worth the price the free games i pay for and the awesome sales. Now its all crap so why buy digital anymore cause ps plus wont make it worth it and you cant trade it in. Its another way for the rich sony bigwigs to get richer and have someone to laugh at cause thats what theyre doing. Lauging abput how theyre ***ing us as we say thank you and how pitiful it is that some of us arent happy to get ***ed.

  • 93 get outta here with that crap. Indie games are gonna ruin ps plus

  • From the “Only on PlayStation” sale, I might will pick up PSASBR (before it goes free for Plus, Kappa); have much of the else.

Sports? If I could afford Vita, Hot Shots might would be nabbed. Have it on PS3, though, so least I’m not missing out.

Another Mutant Blobs theme? Ah, I remember when the not-Plus theme was free to us for a little bit, so this’ll be my third. Haven’t checked around, but if that “Delicious Vita Upgrade” is a Vita port of the first game, then we’ll’ve come full-circle! Am looking forward to the second came coming to PS3; have the Vita version, so hoping for Cross-Buy on it.

  • Can you send the message to give us a Facebook app for ps4?

  • Nothing for me except I might pick up Tearaway.

  • is PS all-stars Cross-buy???
