Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Coming to PS4

Update: An earlier headline for this post stated that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is coming to PS Vita, which was incorrect. Type-0 is coming to PS4 in North America and Europe.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

I’d like to start this out by thanking everyone who let us know how badly you wanted this game to come to North America. Ever since the original PlayStation Portable release in Japan, you guys have never given up on it, raising your voices in an effort to see this title come to North America and Europe. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s coming and it’s going to be in HD.

Stay tuned for more details in the future.

I’m sorry but “You’re confusing me with yourself” ? Really ? Say what you want man, but that brought a smile back to my face

    You’re adorable

  • @MewTwo

What is much more bothering is that Lorenzo and Shahid, two men responsible for the discussions over bringing Type0 to the west, also posted with trumpets that Type 0 joined the #jrpgvita program with Tales of heart….

How could Shahid been confused about something he and his team were working for months…. ?

Did SE changed their mind from a PS4/PSV ( like the FFX collection PS3/PSV ) to a PS4/XBO, after the message Sony clearly sent during their E3 Conf about their support for the Vita ???

  • I’m impressed with Sony/Square Enix. They actually got me to pirate a game. I put off downloading the english patch for type-0 hoping for something at e3. I assumed a vita port, didn’t get it, now I’m enjoying the game on a psp emulator.

I wanted a vita port simply because I enjoy handheld platforms a lot more than on a console. I guess they can enjoy one less sale and a lot of distrust to their companies. Seriously I’d be happy if the PSP version was localized, since I’d just buy it on the store and play it on my vita.

  • Just in case people were wondering, no that it isn’t coming to Vita isn’t Sony’s fault. Sony themselves approached Square for a Vita version, but Square refused to do it. Maybe these reactions from the 2 PSBlogs, and their own page will make them reconsider?

  • Square Enix actually listened to their fans and are bringing the game over?
Am I in the Twilight Zone?
Thank you Square Enix I will definitely buy this.
However, I won’t lie I’m disappointed that it’s not on Vita, me and thousands of others campaigned #JRPGVITA specifically.

  • @ShadowCrossXIV

You do not understand. You say that SONY can not do anything, that this desire SE. But let us for a moment forget about the SE. What is the situation with the release of games for the Vita? Good games out there for a long time did not go! Not only from third-party developers (like SE) but from itself SONY. SONY persistently ignores requests from fans on the issue of quality games, many fans are asking example sequel Gravity Rush. But all players receive this vile cheap indie games on the Vita. Now are reminded about their project and SE Type-0. The project is good, might be a little to improve sales Vita. If SONY little respect their players, they would have a port for the Vita on its own, as it was with Borderlands 2. And then you still dare to say that from SONY nothing depends??? Even though from SONY dependent, they do not perform.

  • @ Jtanooki

Yep. I wish the Vita had more, of course. We all would like that. But after the way these clowns here have reacted to a simple error, they really don’t deserve anything now.

    @ Gloryhole

Are you trying to make a point of some sort? Seems like you’re just firing shots (blanks) in the dark…

  • How disappointing SCEA and Square Enix, you guys can’t do anything right for the Vita community, can you? If you guys expect me to purchase a $400 console for one game then you are all high out of your minds. You can take the PS4 and shove it, the Vita will be my last Playstation product until I see some actual attempt at trying to salvage the thing.

At least Nintendo doesn’t abandon any of their recent platforms because of poor sales, they at least attempt to improve the situation.

  • 801 i disagree with you and agree to some point of what you said. Sony and 3rd partys have played many gamers for many years because we allow them to do it and by buy into them. If game you hope for on the PS Vita doesn’t happen its okay but if it was made for handheld then it should fall into that area and not home console, if it does then make it all type version then just one type so every home console and handheld can have fun. Vita user didn’t buy PS Vita for no reason or to waste hard earn money at all; we want good games and something that will make Vita stand out and have some support.

  • @ ShadowCrossXIV

Of course, i am not unaware of the Vita sells situation, but i also lived in the USA # months after launch, and the Vita shelves were no were to be found at most of gamespot or best buy ( contrary to asia ). I could not find Gravity rush in new ork the day of its release, and had to wait until i reached west coast to find it on a microscopic shelf next to the stock entrance.

I mean, this was 2 and a half years ago, close to the launch….And it is even worst now.

The vita has plenty of games that would sell if those games were somewhere to be found ( other than digital and amazon ). Sony never pushed the communication around Vita except in japan…where oh so surprisingly, the console sells.

I mean there is a lot of factors on why vita bombs in the west ( usa especially ) but one major reason, since now there is a lot of games available, is that sony doesnt communicate around the Vita. Sony doesnt push the PR around it. And doesnt push retailers to communicate around it…. And now even almost scrap it from the E3 press conf…

  • People blaming Sony: It’s not their fault! Sony originally wanted this game on the Vita too, but Square refused to do it. I can’t link you to the comment, but it’s in Neogaf, in the Type-0 HD thread, in page 53.

  • Square Enix!!! You guys clearly aren’t listening to the fans… Please, for business’ sake, release this for the PS Vita. :|

  • @ShadowCrossXIV

The 3DS is only doing good because of their portable fanbase. They are selling a lot less than their older handhelds though. Ken Levine wanted Bioshock Vita to be finished, he was pushing for it. For some reason Take-two was trying to make a deal but it never happened. They probably wanted help funding from Sony, total guess though. I know GTA 5 wouldn’t work, I was talking about GTA San Andreas Stories or LCS/VCS HD. Unfortunately, neither would work with a 4 gb limit anyway. If they could make it 8GB retail card and ad a video out, I think that would help vita a lot. I have no clue how hard that would be though.

  • @809
We know SE is responsible for the final decision, but imagine a Third party publisher, in negotiation with sony for a PSP port on Vita, and sees Sony E3 conference with no message on a clear and bright future for the machine …

Sony has 50% responsibility on the decision for Type0 to be a HD remix on PS4. But they hold 100% responsibility to have givem more time to the “powers” mini serie, than to their second current console.

Freedom wars, gravity rush 2, over my dead body 2 … No ? not even worth showing on stage ? So why bother porting Type 0 to a console that even its maker doesnt value

  • Hey sony, remember when you came out with the PSP and promised great AAA games but we only got ports? How about with the PSP GO when you promised all PSP games be digital and even allow for vouchers on our purchased games but we only got a handful of PSP games that we had to repurchase for more than a physical copy? What about when you released the Vita and promised great AAA games and said it wouldn’t be like the mistakes of the PSP? Yea…really enjoying all the ports. Thanks for including FTP shovelware and PS Now that requires a portable device be connected to a high speed wifi at all times. You never fail to surprise me with your logic of the HANDHELD market.

  • @ShadowCrossXIV No problem. My reason why should a businessman care for the Vita is that the best handheld for playing you’re home console games on the go. The Vita is powerful enough to play most of the PS3 games out there when they are ported to the system. Even better with the Remote Play now that you can stream PS4 games.

@WaReWoLf4194 Because people don’t buy the games for them. And when you don’t buy the games, then the companies get no money. And when they get no money, they don’t find the Vita to be worth it and skip it altogether. Therefore, fans kill it because they won’t buy them in the first place. Get my point? Look what happened to the Wii U, you’ll say the same thing about it.

  • For everyone who feels #NoVitaNoBuy, would it be feasible to get a used PSP and used import copy of the game, and play using the fan translation? It would be much cheaper than buying a PS4, and you’d not be giving any additional money to SE, but still be able to play the game. A consideration for my fellow disappointed Vita owners, I do hope SE sees this overwhelmingly negative reaction and acts accordingly, but if not, is that a viable option for many of you?

  • @ShadowCrossXIV

You were asking why a developer should care for the vita. Well maybe because the vita has the highest attach rate than any other system. Hell look at this thread, over 800 comments and most of them are about wanting fft0 on vita. So yeah this should give any developers a good reason to care for the vita. Plus it’s that mentality for which the vita is selling poorly. It’s like the classic chicken and egg situation, the vita is selling poorly so no support from devs, no support from devs so no vita buy, it’s just sad. Also the reason people are whining is because fft0 was a PSP game and it was through the request of PSP and later vita owners that the game got localized. So that was a **** move by square enix to port it over to ps4 and xboxone. I mean they could have done a vita, ps4 and xboxone version, but no, **** the vita they said. Plus to add insult to injury the post was titled fft0 coming to vita. I will wait till the end of this year for fft0 to come to vita, and if t it doesn’t then I’ll be forced to pirate it on my PSP because this is a handheld game which is bloody best on a handheld.

  • Just like to give a shout out to @xSanosuke for the lovely fan mail. I’d frame it if I could, but I’ll settle for laughing my a** off. Seriously, you made my day kid.

  • Yeah, I might just download an emulator to play the fan translate since I sold both of my PSPs when I buyed my first Vita. :(
Still Nice Job SE! You rock! I do hope the PS4/XBONE version will suck big time! :3

  • I was excited to see this for vita earlier, but that changed to disappointment when it was changed to ps4. I guess someone screwed up. I wont be buying this for ps4, but more power to you if you do.

  • @811

It is obvious that sony never proceed to the “paycheck” technique like MS does… sad but understandable.

Meanwhile sony is loosing valuable assets to the concurrents. Seeing SF4, RE or Lost planet on 3DS, when all those were clearly seen as NGP titles… Not having MH on Vita, with a decision happening way before we knew the vita would tank…

Third party studio have helped BL2 to happen ( thank Gio for the hard work ) and shahid is “the vita man”, but it feels too little too late.

Big names would save the vita, even ports or side projects.

Vita games are not requesting 200 AAA, but just a little consideration from big third party studio ( Ubi is the good exemple of what we ask ) and from 1st party ( not SCEJ show the right amount of care, Why SCEA is so turning their back on Vita gamers )

  • Meeeeeeeeh! FY SE! Gimme ma PSV Edition!

  • @ jose213jose

I agree with your sentiments, but unfortunately the way the world works, everything is dependent upon finances. If a business idea isn’t financially approachable, it most likely won’t happen. We don’t know all the particulars involved in SquareEnix’s budget, and what they are and aren’t able to do. And who knows… this game might still come to Vita anyways, possibly in the very near future! They might have plans for it as we speak and maybe the mistake was that they let the secret out early, inadvertently spoiling the surprise. Then again, maybe not. But it has happened MANY times before. Time will tell.

Believe me, I actually hate money and I wish it didn’t exist, but, this is where we are now. Gotta be realistic.

  • No PS3? :(

  • Should I really give a **** since I don’t have a PS4? I’ve got all other Playstation consoles and my Vita needs actual games on it not just a million indie ports or ports in general. I could just play the fan translation for FREE on PSP.

  • i have been waiting for this game for over 3 YEARS !. i wake up today to find out that it being localized after years. i figured SE would do the logical thing and improve the graphics and release it on PSVita. when i found out this was not being released on Vita my heart sank.this is coming out on a NEXT gen system. unless they overhaul the graphics this is going to be a disaster. why does SE hate the vita? the only game they’ve release was that bad Corpse game and FFX HD ( sold REALLY REALLY well on Vita).i own a PS4 and i won’t be buying this. i will vote with my money and not let SE ditch the Vita like an ugly stepchild.

    #novitanobuy

  • #NOVITANOBUY, we deserve respect!

  • @Benzitor

Yeah, It’s sad that RE Revelations didn’t come to vita. It would have looked so much better. I tried it on PS3, but it didn’t look that good. Ubisoft is amazing, if every developer treated vita like them, vita would be doing much better. The thing is, I just want it to do better, because it is an awesome console, and I want bigger games, like a Fallout or San Andreas Stories. Uncharted Golden Abyss was amazing! I’m actually very happy with it though, there are a lot of games I’m looking forward to, and I’m loving Touikiden and Pixeljunk Ultimate right now. I can’t wait to play Shinovi Versus!

  • One of my eyes is weeping tear of joy, the other, tear of rage TT_TT

On a serious note, even though I’m gonna get a PS4 sooner or later, I’d rather play Type-0 on Vita.

  • @RabidNinjaMonkey.

You may be right about GTA, but I’m also not sure how difficult a second cartridge for 8GB would be. I know they probably did it to push digital though.

    @Benzitor

Ouch. That does hurt a bit about the shelves. Though now that it hasn’t sold much it’s probably a tad unavoidable.

    @Gamerzlimited

Console games on the go, hmm? That’s a solid reason, however, the percentages still come up here.

The Vita has sold a little over 8 Million since Febuary 2012, and the Next Gen consoles have almost already passed that number.

PS TV is being released in NA and could easily add to this number, since they are essentially Vita’s.

This proposition is a little risky right now, perhaps to be less so when the PS TV numbers are in.

    @

  • @+ rabidninjamonky

I hear you… And obviously, RE revelation not happening on Vita, but releasing on PS3/X360 are the key to understand the deal Ninty and capcom passed before the Vita even saw the light.

It is really sad as the game is a clear Portable game, and would have benefited from 2nd analog stick… Same for MH, just so sad not to have a shiny version with double stick on Vita… When i play soul sacrifice or Toukiden, or even see what freedom wars will be, i could not think of better hardware for MH. Capcom, SE, Konami, same attitude, Vita is no go… So so sad.

I am the most hardcore Sony portable fan. I had my psp1000 day one in japan, and my Vita day one in Europe. I have a 50+ games collection on Vita, on top of a 50+ PSP+PS1 collection on PSP… I also just want to see the vita get the vibe it deserves. And feel sony truely support it, and send the right message to third parties…but E3 proved me wrong, and i am really loosing faith.

I still have a list of games i will buy, but i wont do compulsive purchase like before, just because i dont feel like supporting the Vita anymore.

  • @InThreeDee

Um? That bad corpse game? Corpse party is one of the best horror games on the market, thank you very much. As far as “Square ditching Vita blah blah” why is the Vita entitled to Square Enix exactly? Hello? Business. PSP sold better than Vita, remember?

  • @Benzitor.

I have noticed the Vita is an anime game system now for the most part. I kind of wish I could read/write Japanese about now for some of those Vita games only in Japan.

  • A lot of people are angry about a handheld game. Good for it to be going on the PS4.
Sorry, someone had to say it…

  • Also, your hashtag game isn’t going to change anything. Get over the vita, buy a PS4, and move on.

  • @ ShadowCrossXIV

Sadly it becomes a very niche console. But third parties like atlus or arksys seem very happy of the sells on it. Sad that big editors dont seem to value the 8m devoted Vita gamers.

Assassin creed and Call of duty have sold more than Resident evil revelations. It should have been a signal.

  • @ShadowCrossXIV

well no wonder the Vita isn’t selling well. it’s missing core games like Final Fantasy,Monster Hunter and GTA ect……
nobody is saying the Vita should be entitled to games from SE. what we’re saying is that the game would be better on the Vita.the game was made for on the go.people have been asking for this game since it got released on PSP. why didn’t SE localized it on PSP when it had an install base of 30million?

also the Vita is a goldmine for Jrpgs. which would be very logical for a Vita version as well.
well good thing the fan translation for released 1 day after this announcement. now i can play it at 1080p on my PC.i guess PC wins this time around.

  • @Benzitor

This is my first handheld ever, I took a chance on it on the Assassin’s Creed bundle Black Friday sale a couple years ago, and now I barely touch my PS3. It’s just so much quicker getting started, and way more immersive to me sometimes. Plus the home screen and bubbles are so pretty! Hah. It’s also nice to grind in an rpg while you’re watching tv sometimes too. I beat Disgaea 4, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to be really addicted to the vita port. I feel you about not supporting the vita, but think about it as supporting the developers who are supporting us. I also would love to see Monster Hunter on vita btw.

  • It’s very disappointing how you both Sony and specially Square Enix aren’t listening to the customers. People has been asking for the release of FF Type-0 for Vita (before on PSP) for a very long time. I think I’m not wrong if I say that almost noone has been asking for the game on PS4 or Xbox One.

  • @ Benzitor.

I think the key here is that Atlus and Ark System Works try to create situations in which they release multi-platform to neutralize the Vita risk:

    Dragon’s Crown
    BlazBlue (CSII, CP)
    Guilty Gear XRD

    etc.

As for COD/Creed, are you referring to Assassin’s Creed Liberation and CoD Declass selling more than RE Revelations for DS? Did that happen? Or did you mean something else?

    @InThreeDee

And how exactly was Sony supposed to secure those franchises when one was dealt off by Capcom and the other two simply weren’t interested?

As for SE, yeah, you’re probably right it would be better on Vita, but it probably was not estimated to make more money, and that’s probably where they decided to put it on PS4 instead. Remember, Square is showing support to the mobile community.

  • Welcome from EU

Exactly the same thing is happening here in EU, it seems that nobody really wants it for PS4… for god sake it is PSP game after all! Just like you guys we want it for Vita.

Just like here the most popular thread was taken off from the “most popular” section without any good reason.

    Anyway… I have one thing to say…
Guys…. forget about Twitter or Facebook… nobody really cares about it! It is pointless.
#novitanobuy or #novitanomoney or #bringbackourgirls NOBODY REALY CARES ABOUT IT outside of US.

So if you really want to act in a way that will be treated more seriously, make webpage with open letter to SE and system for collecting signatures.

    Cheers!

  • Square enix, hear your fans again and bring us a vita version

  • This is like that time I bought a PS3 to play Final Fantasy Versus XIII on it all those years ago. Now you do this SE, you really pissed me off today.

  • @VitaGamers

Quick question. Specifially, if you could see *new* titles, what genres would you want if they were exclusive to Vita (please be reasonable, don’t say stuff like AAA MMO, or AAA Graphically impressive choice based RPG with customization and extensive…..blah blah.)

    Just genre. Go.

  • #NoVitaNobuy

  • @ rabidninjamonky

I am all with you on this one. Vita is my favorite gaming system. I just wish sony gave it a lot more love.

Vita is my 7th handheld, and by far the best… But i really expected Sony to actually support it as much as they did with the PSP. But instead, they let it die slowly.

I own so many games on it, that my PS3 with PS+ is blushing. I am a true supporter of small studios for their efforts. Demon Gaze and such are Day one for me…but now i feel kind of confused on what sony is planning for the vita in the near and far future.

A few HD collection and some ports from western studios ??? thats all you can do ?

What happened to the Vita project Bend studio was hiring for ? Canned ?

  • #novitanobuy damn it!

  • You clearly didn’t listen very hard, nobody asked for Type-0 on the PS4. #NoVitaNoBuy

  • @ShadowCrossXIV

Platformers, specifically Ratchet & Clank. RPGs, mainly something like Type-0, or Valkyria Chronicles. Open World/Sandbox games, whether it’s GTA, or something else doesn’t matter. Action games, like Bayonetta, or Devil May Cry. Stealth games, specifically, a new MGS game, with The Boss, and the Cobra Unit as protagonists =/
